For every 80 pounds of the great salt, 1 pound of this is made. We did not really talk about the clock tower yet. At 230 feet tall, this is built as a replica of of the clock tower in spain. This was electrically i polite. Electrically operated . Correct, but it still can be run mechanically. Ithe clock master comes in at te time that it is changing. We also have clock watchers across the street who tell us if it is off by a second, so he is very attached to the clock. We have a clock master. And look at this, the hands of the clock. Look how big they are. The holy mackerel. Nobody is up here. But this. It the great seal of the state of california. This is a wonderful mosaic. It is wonderful. It was original to the building. Tens of thousands of people cross by every day. This is the waiting area. The larger alcoves or for storage. And the big plants that would go out to meet the ferries. People would come out to meet the ferries. And then go to the trolley cars. The family of the original artisan still lives in the bay area and they come by every so often to make sure that it is in tact and being taken care of. Furry little repair to it. This is the before and after, 1910 to 1960s, 1970s. This is what the building looked like during that time. It was under plywood and carpeting for about 30 years. This was amazingly preserved underneath all of that when it pulled up. How to the ventilate this . Are these operable . H[ph they are not. We have a cool air intake from the bay. Because of the atrium, it would be nearly impossible for any air conditioning, so we have cool air intake on the bayside. That cools the building down. When i first artwork in here, i was fascinated with all the arches, the repetitive arches. The original architect used it as a symbol of the talks in rome, a symbol of how important the water and the waterways are to us city. To the city. It looks like an aqueduct structure. What are the uses of this floor and above . We have about 10 it office spaces, private businesses, law firm, financial management, lobbying firms. There are all local businesses. They are all local businesses, very supportive of the marketplace. I know that some part of this building, the water goes underneath, the bay water is under there . Yes. Is it under the whole building . There is a sea wall, probably right under where you are standing. A lot of it is on the pilings. I have seen a guy on a little boat that goes under there and make repairs. And also, the coast guard comes, anytime there are logs floating in the water, we have to call the coast guard. It represents the best of the cities it isnt the rough and tunnel city that ive had experience in but it had the special sense of freedom and compassion and quality and quality and all those things are happening with a banner year of getting rid of proposition 8 and celebrating life clapping where were a pretty special place. Its even more special to create new jobs for people. Weve never forgotten where weve came from the city of st. Francis has never gotten and thats distinguished us. Project hope has been about our expression now conditionally 50 times. Our compassion and our opportunity for everyone who lives and works here to demonstrate that compassion. To each other. To that make this city a safer city and a more successful city but for the city for the 1 hundred percent. Something i constantly say we have to create hope in this city for those who have a lot to be hopeless about. This is why the services we provided today and the food and everything from dental to open california support associate services and Mental Consulting and maybe a little bit of mass age can actually open up somebodys heart and mind and want to take care of themselves. This is what happens in our city when you combine the Technology Companies and you combine them with the hearts that have been there with the associate programs and departments and, yes im going to continue to expand those programs. I understand that as we create for shelter it has to have Ongoing Services and were concentrating on those services. People have to be able to change their minds about things and they cant do that with too much challenge. And this level of comfort likewise us to have that conversations and its with you the volunteers we get this special opportunity to do that. I want to say from the bottom of my heart and as the representative for all San Francisco thank you, thank you, thank you for all youre great work, bring forgot the love of this city and make sure we continue with generations of other people weve got to continue being helpful and this is what San Francisco is all about. There have been 23 though volunteers that help the needs of the homeless in this city. 3 thousand. If you do the math thats 1 out of every san franciscan has been involved and have been involved with the homeless in our community. That is something that no other city can boost and that c from the top down. When we think about what our city has to over one of the you biggest things we have is people who are ill maybe theyre on the street from diabetes. Last week, i saw a man who said ive worked for 20 years he hurt his back and now hes addicted to his painkillers and living on the street. I said lets Work Together by weve he got to get you healthy first. And the way we can do that is by using the Health Department services. What can we do for the most vulnerable person. Its not just the medical its creating a relationship with the client and with the patient so they know they can trust their doctor and come in and he not be judged and comfortable with their medical director and thats because of the director ms. Garcia. And thats the spirit we embody so today thank you Barbara Garcia and the rest of the council for all theyve done. We wouldnt be here you think back 50 times ago and it was pretty much the staff that said we want to do more and thats the leadership of Barbara Garcia. Im also recommended of people who connect through volunteers like you or people connecting on the phone i only feel uplift. Also those Fire Departments are not just about the events but about people. There are two people at sprint that work for us thats matt and another gentleman. Please stand up clapping between the two of them theyve been at every single event and set up the phone bank and rallied the sprint volunteers. And a i have i didnt takes the phones home to make sure this things happen. I see many heartwarming things but theirs people who dont get to talk with folks.
