Bobby is just a Leading Light in our community. His leadership has brought mutual undering to the brunal heights neighborhood, a neighborhood where relatively newer resident who are multimillionaires live with working class resident who lived in the neighborhood for decades and Public Housing resident at holly court and alameiny and bobby is phrenwith everyone. Your patience, your warmth, your generosity, your ability to explain to people you bridge divides, you bring people together and you make sure people understand one another and it is a skill and gift very few people have. You are father of 2 and grand faurt of 13 and great grand faurter of two and a parent, god parent to so many children and resident of holly courts. You move to holly court with your wife shery who passed away last year and who we all greatly miss and your two kids, robert junior and lor eta you moved in 1985 and fell in love with the community right away and it shows in everything you do. In 31 years living at holly courts you have worked tirelessly to improve the Living Conditions for seniors, families and children that live in the development and you have been the sergeant in arm frz the Resident Council and helped create the that council for quite some time. Today you sit on the Housing Corporation committee and the Safety Planning Committee at Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center and gina exectvative director and [inaudible] are here to honor you today. No matter the issue, you have experience and wisdom that motivates all the residents of holly courts and you make sure those residents stick together through thick and thin. I may be the supervisor of district 9 but you are definitely the mayor of Bernal Heights and that neighborhood. Bobby i love you so much and please share with us your word. Congratulations. Hillary, supervisor ronen. I dont know if i can talk anymore or add anymore. Im sorry. You know, my late wife used to tell me that she didnt like the time i taken away from her to do the work that i do, but she always told me that it will come back to you in folds. When she passed the whole community reached out and embraced me. I get goose pimples just thinking about it. It all came back 10 fold just like she said. About 10 years ago i started hanging around the bernal height Neighborhood Center so much that they decided to adopt me, you know . They could ntd get rid of me no other way i guess, but i like to thank the bernal height Neighborhood Center, the staff, regina, [inaudible] urma, james and the seniors, the volunteers because they all took me in you know and made me part of their family. Actually helped me get started working with the community and in the community. Even though forced my first speaking engagement right here, they forced that on me. My ideas of a good working community. Actually started with good people at it the top. Thats rr you guys. Thatsa lot of good people in the community that working hard and coming together and discussing and coming up with a plan for the community. Thats when your Community Leaders are formed. That is when your Community Watch groups are formed, block group jz it takes everybody working together. Dpw, park and rec, pg e, muni, it takes a lot to put a good working Community Together and im proud to be part of that. I like to thank my fred buck and thank my fred herb and his wife gale that i work with on the upper folsom project over 4 years and other organizations around the bernal community. You know, i cant leave out my old friend captain mc fadm who do a excellent job in the community. I met hillary about 7 years ago. Supervisor ronen now im proud to say. We worked on a project called Community Policing and there were the first project i worked on with my Resident Council and worked with on it with two people from around San Francisco and met every couple weeks for 8 months to define what we thought about Community Policing and when we got it widdled down to 15 paragraphs supervisor took to the surpriser and passed it unanimously then what amazed me we went in front of the Police Commission and i was nervous that night, but we passed it unanimous. I say, can can do stuff like this. I was just flabbergasted i could do Something Like this. Thank you. Ovthe years i worked with supervisor ronen any time i needed her, any time we needed her she was always there. I saw her work ethic and hard work she put into it and it inspired me to work harder. Im proud to know her and thank her for giving me this excellent opportunity but i accept this award on behalf of all the hard working people in district 9. Avenue 1 of us deserve itism thank you. [applause] thaupg thank you for your service and again congratulations. [applause] i like to ask members of the public please silence your cell phones. With that, i am going to bring up my honoree amarti ricko hamilton come before us. [applause] now, ricko i had to prepare remarks because i dont want to get emotional because the work that you have done for this city and lives you saved literally has been just something amazing and i know you have a amazing team of people you work with every day to do the work that often times gets negligented, the work no one hears about because something does want happen and so we are honoring you today for that commitment. I know you dont do the work because you expect to be honored, i know you do the work because you care about the community you were born and raised in and want to take to the opportunity to tell folks exactly what you do and what you stand for and i also like to acknowledge your wife quhoo is here today, crystal and i know youre a father of 4 and work hard and take incredible care of your children. Im so very proud of you and honored to be here today to honor you for this amazing commendation. My dear frnd ricko works for Western Addition street violence prevention or violence intervention program. It changed names so many times over the years and for those who dont know what svip is i know there are members, victor jones is here and artero and others who work on the front lines every day in our communities. It is program that is managed by the Mayors Office of violence prevejz department of helthd and children and youth and families that aim to reduce homicide. They do the hard work no one sees. Sadly in the neighborhood we lost so many people over the years and when there is a shooting or a homicide or something happens, ricko is one of the individuals who is basically not only talking to the victims family but also dealing in some instances with the perpetrator of the crime. Putting himself in danger, putting himself in harms way in order to stop the violence from occurring for someone else. That i have seen first hand. I had tamake those calls on a regular basis to you and ask you to intervene and to reach out to individuals knowing that talking to some of those individuals really does put you in danger. Put you in the middle of a complicated situation that not everyone has the undering understanding or expertise or experience to deal with. You bring a unique perspective, a perspective of mind and hard. A love for the community, a love for the people of the community, a desire to keep everyone safe, a desire to bring the Community Together not just during tragedy but the work thatia have done to bring people together whether it an event, whether its a picnic, whether its a bbq, those are the type of things that help bring a dmunty Community Together and make our community what we so dest prtly desire it to be. A safe and lovable place where all of us and all the children we are raising now. I deviated from my notes of course. I am so proud of you, so proud of the person that you have become over the years. Im proud of the husband and father and the Community Man and the spiritual person you are. When you think no one is watching, i know you are doing amazing things. You are having the conversations with young men about their lives and their issues and about their uncertainties and you are holding them accountable to do the right thing. You are holding them accountable to be better. You are showing them by example what it means to be a real man who stand up not only for his family but for his community. So, that is exactly why i had to honor you. Again, i know it is not something that you expect, all you do is keep your head down and you do the work, you take the phone calls, you deal with the difficulties of the job and i know sometimes it gets to you. I know sometimes you dont feel appreciated but today we are honoring you to show you loved and appreciated for all you do for the community. For all the lives you changed and saved. Thank you ricko for your work and behalf of the board of supervises it is my honor to commend you. [applause] first i want to say i want to thank you fraub fraub the blessings i received my grandmother passed in 2000 amazing womp who raised our family of 7 children and 30 something grandchildren. My mom and anterr amazing people. They say behind every strong man there is a stronger woman so i had a stronger woman for 13 years and so happy to have her in my life. [applause] and also i had a lot of amazing mentors in my life and truly thankful for all the mentors lf personally london breedlet me tell the story how it happened. 13 years ago it was 2004 and i come from the community that i serve. I come from a lot of the underprivileged things. I come from the Western Addition, family of urban renewal and redevelopment all the stuff that happened in the community and allow myself to fall victim to some things that happened in the community and ended up in a bad situation, incarcerated, spending time in jail and when iigate out i was pretty bummed. I had the mentality i cant get hired, no one will give me a job, i am not doing construction. That was my mentality and someone said london is working a that African American cultural complex why dont you talk to her. I said who. They said london and they gave nee story. I go up there with intent to get a job as a case manager. I talked to her and said i want to be the case manager
