San francisco was a key player in the yemz story. We realized that yelp might work in cities around the world with yelp in 23 criterias we need a little bit more desk space. Yelp has 17 hundred employees 8 hundred in sf. Were committed to growing the local economy and maintaining a strong connection to our San Francisco lines. When looking for a new headquarters it was location, location, location. We needed somewhere to provide easy access to lots of local businesses and restaurants and remain convenient for mass transit riders and bike riders a lot of our employees ride bikes. Combrem is pack at about local plays and celebrate the distinct active and unique. We want to have this into a more than workplace. Talking of resident at the 130 montgomery is an important milestone. Well celebrate our tenth anniversary next year. This whole faith is built on technology and really save in community because community is what yelp is all about. Yelps success is living proof that American Business doesnt want just service a Small Community but this whole community. From the beginning this torrid company acknowledged that this can be a good model of bits. And certainly theres no befrt place to test this model but in San Francisco. Yelp is special theyre starting here and staying here that i i love coming here it is now 8 hundred the numbers changed. I visited a few weeks we looked at the building restroom for a thousand. I want to join leader pelosi it is a happy day. I love to see companies succeed and the collaborating and sharing ideas this is what yelp has done. And then to do Something Special in the what happened in San Francisco because companies that are here and start here they follow in the tradition like the charles swabbings and the fishers and the hell mans they discover the resources and want others to grow with them. Thats why to recognize 3 outstanding nonprofits youve columbian but even if company like yelp now, its yelp and yelp foundation. I love that because i got it, its sales force and Sales Force Foundation the Technology Companies are taking up that social responsibility like no others and i love seeing that because thats been the values of san franciscans. Weve shared in our success and as we present more companies whether their along Market Street or monday night grorm we have 1 thousand companies in San Francisco plus. Think about how many foundations this represents we all know the understanding is becoming clear innovation is not about the temple its about a way of thinking. It suggests that community collaboration, building of that community, sharing of ideas is really a spirit. Ive been very happy to collaborator collaborate with yelp and looufrt has been with us a couple of times we have a relationship thats not just in the city. Im happy to bring yelp with me and present them to other mayors. We get to not only brag but to announce were solving things that were not in the drudgery of retention reform and run away accounts but we can solve them in partnership with the private sector. We took this one example data that no one looks altered from restaurants and we discovered theres no eyes on that so we matched that up with the real eyes that are at yelp and made that connection so when you go to let yelp website i can see the relationship in government and we announced that and other cities asked how we have more people using that process. Thats one of dozens of example whether its in transportation finding Parking Spaces and ride sharing to function more efficient. This Partnership Goes beyond it and you have made it exist. Good morning colleagues it has been another busy and productive year at the Transportation Authority. In particular i wish to thank vice chair scott wiener for your partnership and leadership on transportation issues and eric mar for plans and programs and on behalf of my colleagues i wish to thank all of our aids to help with the large work we have here and the transportation staff. During the Selection Process i would like to thank you maria for your great work keeping the Organization Running smoothly and helped to keep all of our projects on track during the transition period. As you know colleagues after a vetting process we appointed tilly cheng to her executive director position. And i look forward to discussing later on our agenda. 2013 also was a big year for local and regional Transportation Planning with the adoption of plan bay area the first regional plan to respond to statewide policy and Investment Policies that tie trapgs transportation to housing goals. Last month brought conclusion of the Mayors Task Force report and much needed revenues for transportation and well continue to discuss and shape as we move into the new year and on todays agenda is the adoption of the San Francisco Transportation Plan or sftp and its our citys strategic transportation blue print that sets our Investment Priorities for policy discussion for years to come i want to thank staff and our sftpc and the public in this complex and important work. I also want to recognize great staff work on innovative tools such as my street sf. Com easy tools to find out where transportation projects are happening and weigh in on priorities. To congestion management and neighborhood access together were tackling important issues. The agency also kept the funds flowing this year helping with our economic recovery and addressing pressing needs in every neighborhood across the city. This year the Transportation Authority passed the one billion mark for our Sales Tax Program allocating funds for projects to improve the safety and accessibility of our Transportation System citywide. Weve moved a strong group of projects forward. The brt program moved ahead and the major Capital Projects of the prop k plan are all under construction. To the. Our impact extends beyond the investments on the ground. Were Engaging Community based organizations in our outreach to communities of concern and increasing the involvement of neighborhood groups in the decisionmaking process. Im excited about the work underway early action plan and prop k prioritization process. I look forward to working with colleagues on strengthening our transportation sector in 2014. And enhanced project delivery across the city ill conclude my remarks by wishing everyone an enjoyable and relaxing holiday season. Its only been a few short weeks but weve got a full report for you today at the federal level we noticed that the house of representatives passed a 2 year budget agreement which reduces the likely hood of another shut down which is always good news and shows highway programs however will not be subject to can you cuts. It is positive. At the state level cap and trade discussions continue. The legal hurdles have been cleared or 2 of them have been cleared and there also appears to be an expected state Budget Surplus so renewed energy and see if the governor might be will to repay some of the cap and trade funds so well continue to work with the San Francisco city family and folks around the state on that effort. Here region ly the cap and trade discussions will be happening tomorrow at mtc continuing on the framework that was introduced last month that we discussed in my last report talks about a very significant investment in the 3 major
