First Reading
none tonight. Item s,
Board Members
report report from the standing committee, we would like to hear a report. We had an update on the research that the staff has done and the status of the common planning time that is currently happening now in the district and included considerations of cost and logistics if we were to implement it districtwide, we also had a review, a review of 360, which is creating a base line for behavioral rti and we had a
Sample Survey
and we are asking the staff to fill out on every student. And how, the survey works and what the survey results would be used for. Okay. Commissioner wynns could we have a report from the budget and
Service Meeting
of february 6th. Yes, thank you, the committee met and we reviewed kind of the as we do routinely administratively approved. Excuse me one second. I am sorry, could we take the conversation outside please . There has been a request to keep the conversation outside, please . Thank you. You may continue. And honestly explaining the process for the benefit of commissioner haney which is good for all of us to review that, i appreciate it. But mainly we talked about the update on the state budget. We all believe and hope that the state budget with the passage of prop 30 and the beginning of the rebounding of the economy in california, will continue to be significantly better than we anticipated it might be for next year and the coming years. So we have some new projections about the or about our anticipated balances and did all of the members of the board get those . Yes . So you all received them . I think that we should after the budget meeting actually we ought to review them, i think here for everybody and so we begin to and perhaps i will talk with deputy superintendent ly about the way that we can do the expanded
Budget Committee
report or something so that we kind of are not out of the woods not by any means, we are just, you know, i am going to i dont have it in front of me, but you can tell me that it is in the neighborhood of budget shortfall that we project for 3 years out. That was in the neighborhood of 60 million, is now only projected to be 42 million dollars. And so that is good. But, not good enough. It is good news just we just actually i think that the main message from the meeting is that we have to learn these kinds of things and the scale of our budget issues is changing and we have to start to think in different terms about what the scale might be. It does not mean that we dont have difficult budget decisions ahead of us but this is better than alternatives so that is the report of the
Budget Committee
. Thank you. And also we had and we did as we do every year, i should just say this, go over the calendar when things might happen and has that been given to the
Board Members
and so you should look at that and see how that is going to fit in with the rest of the things that we are going to do this spring and if any member of the board has some comment on that, the process, and the order and when we have schedule tentatively the budget hearings and etc. And they should let me know so that we can talk about that at the budget meeting. Thank you. And perhaps, dr. Crawford we could talk about sitting in a short budget presentation to a future agenda, but we can talk about that. Thank you. All right. Push any
Standing Committees

Dr. Akerman received her doctorate from the
Harvard School
of education, and was one of the greatest successes as the first graduate to actually become the superintendent of a major urban
School District
. She was superintendent in three major districts washington, d. C. ,

During her time we were one of the five finalists in the 2005 prize for education receiving 100,000 for students scholarships, in 2004, we became the highest achieving urban

African American<\/a> students to integrate the st. Louis schools and devoted her professional life to the education of americas neediest children. As we begin to lose the men and women who have had this experience we need to redobl our commitment to diversity, she was not always honored as she deserved but i am happy to be able to report that she end of her life she looked on her time in
San Francisco<\/a> as the best and most productive of her professional career. Her illness was short, but difficult, and much too early. I feel privileged to have been her friend as well as her colleague and i got to spend a day with her late in december. I am going to miss her, i already misser. Public education in america is poorer for her loss, she leaves her two sons anthony and matthew and her four grand daughters as well as her friends and colleagues and the board of education expresses our sincerist condolences as well as our thanks to her service to our community.
