>> hey, everybody. let's see if i still got it. i'm thomas roberts. welcome to "way too early." and this morning we have president obama making his 10th trip to asia. but this is his first time to visit former war torn foe, vietnam. and it's aimed at luring another southeastern asian country away from china, something the president said was not the case. and president obama announced the u.s. is completely lifting its arms embargo in vietnam. the ban is lifted, the president says the sale of arms would depend on the human rights commitments. >> i made it clear that the united states does not seek to impose our form of government on vietnam or any nation. we respect vietnam's sovereignty and independence, at the same time we will continue to speak out on behalf of human rights, including freedom of speech, press, religion and assembly. >> on friday, comes his much anticipated viz tosit a to her a hiroshima. with five 1/2 months to go. new polls show this race is neck and neck. the new poll shows hillary clinton's advantage over donald trump has narrowed to 46 to 43%. that's within the margin of error and down from an 11-point lead she held last month. this abc poll puts trump slightly ahead of clinten with the race tied 46-44. that's an 11 point shift in trump's favor. clinlt clinton and trump in a dead heap in must win states. and then in ohio, clinton holds a five point lead, 44 to trump's 39. she's still competing against bernie sanders in the democratic primary, just 85 delegates away from clinching her party's nomination but says she's turning her focus to trump. >> my campaign is not going to let donald trump try to normalize himself in this period. if we don't respond to donald trump, which i am doing, as you have seen. i've said he was unqualified to be president. i believe that deeply. i'm going to keep focussed on democrat because i will be the nominee, i will be running against donald trump in the fall and i do not want americans -- and good thinking republicans as well as democrats and independents to start to believe this is a normal candidacy, it isn't. >> meanwhile, donald trump and hillary clinton are making history as the wall street journal poll showing they are the most unpopular likely president nominees ever. only 34% of registered voters have a positive opinion of hillary clinton. and 29% have a positive opinion of donald trump and 58% have a negative opinion. that's a net negative rating of 29 points. the washington post finds an even split when asked if they're mainly supporting clinton or supporting trump. while among trump voters, 44% choose him because of trump and 53% are backing him more out of opposition to clinton. clinton and trump traded some very strong words on the issue of gun regulations over the weekend, beginning with donald trump 's comments as he falsely claimed that hillary clinton wants to aballish the right to be bare arms. >> hillary clinton wants to abolish the second amendment. crooked hillary clinton is the most anti-gun, anti-second amendment candidate ever to run for office and as i said before, she wants to abolish the second amendment. she wants to take your guns away. hillary clinton wants to reverse the d.c. versus heller, upholding the right to keep and bare arms. hillary clinton said the supreme court is wrong on the second amendment. that's bad. gun free zones. we're getting rid of gun free zones. i can tell you. the second amendment is on the ballot in november. the only way to save our second amendment is to vote for a person that you all know named donald trump, okay. >> so, trump followed up with a tweet on saturday, quote crooked hillary wants to get rid of all guns and yet she is surrounded by body guards who are fully armed. hillary clinton responded at a meeting for trayvon martin in front of 60 moms who lost kids to gun violence. >> parents, kids and schools should have the right to keep guns out of classrooms, just like donald trump does at many of his hotels, by the way. this is someone running to be president of the united states of america, a country facing a gun violence epidemic and he's talking about more guns in our schools. he's talking about more hatred and division in our streets. even about more nuclear weapons in the world. that's no way to keep us safe. if you want to imagine what trump's america will look like, picture more kids at risk of violence and bigotry. picture more anger and fear. ask any, any of the mothers here tonight if they want to live in that kind of america. >> so, both hillary clinton and bernie sanders are setting their sights on california's june 7th primary where 548 del gegates a in play. and over the weekend, the former first lady suggested she is better prepared for the general election than sanders. >> it's also fair to say that i have been vetted and tested and i think that puts me in a very strong position. >> you don't think bernie sanders's been vetted, you don't think this campaign against you has vetted him? >> i don't think he's ever had a single negative ad run against him and that's fine. but we understand what we're getting into and what it's going to take to win in the fall. and polls this far out mean nothing and if they go back and look, they mean nothing in terms of analyzing what's going to happen in the fall. >> meanwhile in a hypothetical match up, bernie sanders leads donald trump by 15 points. 54% to 39%. and sanders spent his weekend campaigning around southern california where hie argued he s the best candidate to take on trump in the fall. >> i say to every democrat in this country and those delegates going to the convention in philadelphia, if you want the strongest candidate to make sure that trump does not become president, we are that campaign. >> all right, so as we've been watching the relationship between bernie sanders and the dnc, it's pretty sense. over the weekend he announced his support for the primary challenger to florida congresswoman, schultz. >> in florida are you with schultz or her opponent? >> well, clearly i favor her opponent. his views are much closer to mine than his schultz's and let me also say, in all due respect to the current chair person, if elected president, she would not be reappointed to be chair of the dnc. >> and he went even further. schultz meanwhile said donald trump would be democratic candidates questioning his success in the business world. over the weekend we have the washington post reporting that the last time his tax returns were reported, he paid nothing for income tax. revealing, for at least two years in the 1970s, trump had taken advantage of a tax code provision and this is popular with developers. it allowed developers like him to report negative income. on "meet the press" yesterday, hillary clinton questioned trump's business acman. saying he is a quote pretend success. and bernie sanders took a shot at his wealth. >> is there anything donald trump's done that you think should be praised? >> i think he should release his tax retrntz because the only two we have show he hasn't paid a penny and he goes around talking about making america great. that means paying for our roads, the va. and if you've got someone running for president who's afraid to release his tax returns because it will expose the fact that he pays no federal income tax, i think that's a problem. >> so, my question was there's nothing about his background that's praise worthy? >> we'll find out. we have to get behind the hype. >> donald trump cannot and will not ever become president of the united states. it's not just that trump, a billionaire, or at least he tells us he's a billionaire. who knows. probably as broke as everybody else. >> all right. so, we have other news and it concerns what intelligence officials are confirming about the taliban's top commander being killed. mansour was targeted in an air strike on saturday, carried out by unmanned drones. along the afghanistan-pakistan border. mansour had emerged as the successor to the founder whose 2013 death was only revealed last summer. the white house says here's what president obama said from vietnam this morning. >> it has been confirmed that he is dead. and he is an individual who, as head of the taliban, was specifically targeting u.s. personnel and troops inside of afghanistan. it is my responsibility as commander and chief not to stand by but to make sure we send a clear signal to the taliban and others that we're going to protect our people and that's exactly the message that has been sent. >> also this morning, a new offensive to retake the city of fallujah from isis. it was the first iraqi city to fall to isis in january 2014. the government warned residents yesterday to prepare to flee the city through designated safe passages or hang white flags outside their homes to mark their locationlocations. it will be the latest in a string of efforts to reclaim territory from isis. if successful, it would leave mosul as the islamic state's only main foot hold in iraq. the search continues for the wreckage of the egyptair flight that crashed in the mediterranean last week. the egyptian military has released photos of the debris recovered friday. the plane was carrying 66 people when it crashed after leaving paris in route to cairo. terrorism has been sited as a possible cause, though officials have cautioned against speculation. and ammon, what's the very latest on the search and especially as the teams are trying to find those data flight recorders. >> no indication that the egyptian government has actually located the main site of that wreckage or the voice recorder. over the weekend, in his first public comments since the crash, the egyptian president announced that they have deployed a submarine to try to help search some of the area below the sea bed. the submarine can survey that length to try to identify any possible wreckage. the military, for the first time releasing still images as well as video images of the debris that has been so far recovered. some of the stuff recovered clearly mark woued with the egy air logo. they have found personal belongings and human remains. that's made it difficult for the families who have transitioned to holding out for hope to starting to mourn. in fact, wee we've been
