few moments for you. but right now, let's turn to politics. there are signs of a detent between trump and he'll meet with house whip kevin mccarthy who signed up to be a trump delegate. and house speaker ryan said he still has reservations and on monday he sought to cool tensions. >> i want to get to know him and understand him better. i don't know him. we had one conversation a few months ago and basically the kind of conversation i'm hoping we all can have together. not just the two of us, but all of us. it's how we can actually unify our party. i believe between now and july we will be able to figure out how to unify our party. >> if he asked you to step down as chair of the convention -- >> i'll do whatever -- he's the nominee. i'll do whatever he wants with respect to the convention. >> still other republicans have their reservations. one told politico, quote, i haven't met him yet. i want to get a chance to talk to him about some issues. and others like kelly ayotte, they're trying to balance handling trump and preserving their seats in upcoming election. >> do you support or endorse donald trump? >> i believe each person will make their own decision. i've said i'll vote for our republican nominee. but i don't intend to endorse anyone in this race. >> as for donald trump he's thinking about the future as the rnc is taking a closer look and some big donors are deciding to get on board. yesterday, trump announced the election of new jersey governor chris christie to head up the transition today. president obama waited until november of 2008 to select his team. this as they met with the core leadership in washington for a briefing on logistics and the schedule ahead. a senior strategist tells rnc that trump needs to understand what the party needs to offer and withhold politics is a business. you may have won the nomination, but doesn't mean we'll support you. top republican donors signed on withrump yesterday. scar mucci, and paypal cofounder peter thooel and stanley hubbard who gave money to a stop trump pac. hubbard said all of my favorite candidates dropped out one by one. we're down to my least favorite candidate, and my least favorite candidate is better than hillary clinton. and reince priebus emphasized unity when talking about the vote from four years ago. >> the only way we can build our party to get to more than that number so that we can win is if you don't ask anyone to leave. you don't subtract people out of the room, but you build an ad and understand that, you know, if we can agree with each other, you know, 80% of the issues i think we're in pretty good shape. >> yep. >> and that's the -- i think, you know, the purity -- you know, is found in heaven. but it's not found here. and i think people just need to be reminded of that. >> donald trump says he's looking to make a deal on taxes for the wealthiest americans. he was in damage control after diverting from the proposal he made in the primaries last fall, saying in multiple recent interviews that the rich should pay more in taxes. yesterday, he sought to clarify the position, quote, i'm lowering taxes far more than any other candidate, any negotiated increase by congress to my proposal would still be lower than current. >> it's got to be negotiated by congress, it's got to go through the senate. everybody looks at it. everybody negotiates. i put on a massive tax -- of the low proposal. yeah, i may have to raise it, because this is a negotiation. look, the middle class has been decimated in this country. i'm going to fight hard for the middle class, i'm not raising it. but i could see the wealthy -- i'm not talking about raised from where they are now, but from the low proposal. trump down low played his recent position on the debt, he would not seek to renegotiate. he said the bonds are sacred. and trump said that clinton is an enabler of her husband's affairs. the meeting was closed to the public and the attendees were outnumbered by the press who repeatedly asked for her reaction to trump. >> i'm going to let him run his campaign how ever he chooses. i'm doing to run my campaign which is a positive vision for our country which will help us solve problems we're facing. >> do you think you'll have to respond to these accusations? you saw what happened during the primary when things he said went unanswered. why not sort of -- >> oh, i'm answering him all the time. no, i'm answering him on what i think voters care about. i'm answering him on the difference between our records and experience and what we want to do for our country. how important it is to unify the country, and i have been very clear that a lot of his -- a lot of his rhetoric is not only reckless but it's dangerous. >> so you're responding with substance? >> i'm running my campaign. i'm not running against him. he's doing a fine job of doing that himself. clinton and bernie sanders will face off in two contests today. democratic primaries are taking place in nebraska and west virginia. nebraska awarded the delegates after holding a democratic caucus on march 5th. in 2008, clinton won west virginia easily against then senator barack obama but now they're bracing for a possible loss to senator sanders. she has grappled with comments she made in march when she said in part, quote, we're going to put a lot of coal miners and companies out of business to modernize this sector. she later apologized for the remarks. meanwhile, bernie sanders is looking ahead to future primaries. he spoke to a crowd of 15,000 in sacramento, california. he acknowledged the narrow path to the white house, but he said his campaign is far from over. >> nobody can predict the future, but i think we've got a good shot to win in west virginia, in kentucky and in oregon. it is a steep hill to climb and i acknowledge that. but we have the possibility of walking in to the democratic convention with a majority of pledged delegates. and there are signs of pressure for clinton in kentucky as well after two weeks without running commercials a democratic source tells nbc news the clinton campaign has reserved ad time for later this week. a and two daughters. the clash over transgender bathrooms clashed yesterday after the justice department responded to a lawsuit from north carolina with one of its own. the dueling suits came weeks after the doj said to back off from the bathroom bill there. announcing his state's lawsuit republican governor mccrory accused the justice department on blatant overreached and called on the u.s. congress to help. >> i think it's time for the congress to look at the provisions under title vii and title ix. right now, the obama administration is trying to set basic restroom policies, locker room policies and even shower policies for public and private employers across the country, not just north carolina. >> hours later attorney general loretta lynch shot back announcing a lawsuit of her own. federal civil rights laws prohibit discrimination based on sex, she said. >> they created state sponsored discrimination against transgendered individuals who seek to engage in the most private of functions in a place of safety and security. a right taken for granted by most of us. none of us can stand by when a state enters the business of legislating identity and insists that a person pretend to be something or someone that they are not. >> and the state stands to lose billions of dollars in federal funding if that suit is successful, nearly 200 corporate leaders have called for the appeal. the group behind the so-called panama papers has made a massive trove of data public. they took it live yesterday. and there's also a component that allows you to search for specific
