Hate crime, it may or may not turn out to be kalea killed motivated by antireligious or eight husband antimuslim sentiment. If it is a hate crime, they do come up with that evidence the point here is it would not make much of a difference legally in North Carolina. The suspect here is charged with firstdegree murder. That North Carolina is a state that has the Death Penalty. North carolina has a hate crime law, but it doesnt apply to situations like this. In other words it would not be if he were convicted, it would not be a factor that the jury would consider in deciding whether or not to seek the Death Penalty instead of life in prison. Its not what they call an aggravating factor. It wouldnt come into play. It could be a bit of evidence offered to the jury, but ift legally wouldnt make a difference in terms of the severity of the charges in a firstdegree murder case. The federal government can pursue a hate crime case. In cases of murder the federal government doesnt do that unless the state case goes off the rails, theres an acquittal or not able to bring it to trial. Thank you for that clarification.
