Good evening, and welcome to politicsnation. Tonights lead, georgia or literally bust. After last nights spectacle in the peach state, it is abundantly clear that Gop Senate Candidates david perdue and Kelly Loeffler are effused to the trump train. And they will either ride it back to washington or just get run over and dragged behind it. Of course, its also fitting that President Trumps first rally since his election loss was in the heart of the old confederacy because it played like a civil war reenactment of grievance. Were all victims, everybody here, all these thousands of people here tonight, theyre all victims, every one of you. The president did what Republican Leaders wanted him to do, asking his supporters to elect loeffler and perdue. But as i predicted yesterday, he did so by making the race all about himself, making their elections about avenging his defeat. And possibly overturning the results, which was flawed but could somehow be rectified with time travel. I dont want to wait till 2024. I want to go back three weeks. Rally attendees clearly got the message. Its not about the future of the Republican Party except when trump is in it. Its definitely not about the nation except when trump is leading it. And even when he paused his 90minute speech to hand it to the candidates, they were shouted down by the audience chanting fight for trump. And so perhaps as we wait to escape his presidency, weve derived at President Trumps true legacy, division. Because thanks to the relentless misinformation campaign, there is still a large portion of the American Population that genuinely believes it is an open question what will happen on january 20th. Even though we should be clear that joe biden won the presidency and will be inaugurated. But how does he even begin to reach out across this divide after his soontobe predecessor has spent the last four years to this minute widening that divide. And on top of it, all this latebreaking news this afternoon that man the President Trump has tapped to lead the charge in his obsessive effort to overturn the election as himself fallen hikt to the one crisis he wants nothing to do with. President trump has tweeted that his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani has tested positive for coronavirus. Joining me now is massachusetts congresswom congresswoman ayanna pressley. Congresswoman, thank you for being with us this evening. Let me start right there. I wish mr. Giuliani well by the way. I dont wish anyone including when the president had it any ill feelings when theyre hit with this. But isnt it also something that we could say that rather than running around dealing with these bogus claims of the election, that the focus of the country and the president and all of those around them should be this coronavirus epidemic or pandemic really that were in the midst of . Absolutely, rev. Its just further demonstration of the callousness, the corruption and the narcissism of donald trump and this administration. And loeffler and perdue will carry his corrupt water, which is exactly why we need to elect ossoff and warnock. And ive got georgia on my mind. All eyes are on georgia. Im not surprised that he evoked the name of Stacey Abrams, because we know that capable and brilliant black women but we hope that Rudy Giuliani gets well. We wish him a speedy recovery as well as the thousands of americans who have been diagnosed and who are battling this pandemic right now for whom donald trump has given no attention and has allowed this pandemic to rage out of control because of his willful criminality. Yeah, because by the end of the week we were finding 2,800 people a day that had been found positive. Now, the outgoing president s baseless claims of voter fraud wont overturn the election results. But were already seeing some officials taking steps to make it harder to vote in future elections. How can we ensure voter rights are not further being eroded . Well, first we need to regain control of the senate, which is why we have to do everything right now. Im trusting and believing, and i have confidence in georgia and those grassroots organizers and activists on the ground whom at the moment made it possible for the election of joe biden and Kamala Harris and for democracy to breathe another day. So we have to regain control of the senate because they have been obstructionists at every turn. Theyre why the Voting Rights act was not brought to the floor, why the antilynching bill was not brought to the floor. A bill to reduce the cost of prescription drugs. And instead of passing a comprehensive relief package to meet the scale and scope of the hurt to demonstrate their compassion for the American People, instead they have demonstrated great contempt, rev. And thats why instead of doing that, they moved on 222 federal farright leaning judges. So, we have got to regain control of the senate, and the best way to combat voter intimidation and suppression is to show up. Absolutely. Now, theres been a bill proposed, a bipartisan bill i believe of 908 billion that you and some of the progressives have opposed. Explain that to why you think that it is not enough. Reverend al, the people that i represent are not asking me about what polls are saying or what is the bipartisan appetite. Theyre asking me about what relief are you going to deliver to make my life better and keep me safe . Our greatest wealth as a nation is the health of our people. And it is being threatened at every turn with unprecedented food insecurity, unemployment and many on the precipice of eviction. In my district alone, the projections are as big as 60 to 100,000 people. Were going to have ten cities all around us. I have a constituent whos getting 111 of unemployment a month, has three children. Her rent is 1,900. She has depleted her savings and has 35 left to her name. We need to get direct cash assistance to the American People, reoccurring cash stimulus payments, rent and mortgage cancelation, eviction moratorium. We need to expand on Unemployment Benefits and we need a massive fusion of federal funds for state and municipal aides as well as the distribution of a vaccine. So, as we deal with this, we need to make sure, and im being clear here, because a lot of people do not understand that there is no direct money going to citizens. It is not in the package. And thats one of the things that you and some of and others are pointing out in this bipartisan compromise bill. Thats right, rev. Mitch mcconnell wants to slap, call it a relief bill. But this is not a relief bill. This is not for the American People. You know, their obsessiveness with corporate liability shields. When i talk to workers, they say i dont want to sue my employer, i want to survive, lets give the American People what they need to survive. They are in dire straits experiencing a tsunami of hurt. And we can meet the scope and scale of this crisis. We can mitigate their hurt and we must. All right, congresswoman ayanna pressley, thank you as always for being with us. Joining me now is new york senator Kirsten Gillibrand. Thank you for being with us, senator. Let me start right there in georgia where i was just talking to congresswoman pressley. A recent polling has both senate races within the margin of error in georgia. But that can change after tonight. The Senate Candidates are debating, well, sort of. Youre looking at the first debate between jon ossoff and an empty chair, Republican David Perdue declined to participate in any debates leading to the january 5th runoff. Do you make do you have a sense of which party has the momentum with one month to go . This will determine who has the majority in the chamber you serve. All eyes are on georgia. And i believe we have the momentum. Not only has Stacey Abrams raised and invested millions of dollars to make sure every vote is counted, to make sure people turn out to vote, to make sure people understand that their voice is really important. And we have two extraordinary candidates. We have reverend warnock, who is not only a fire brand, but he understands what the Community Needs and is an extraordinary advocate. You have jon ossoff who understand Small Businesses and Community Needs and how this covid epidemic has harmed their state. These candidates are both the kinds of candidates that can win in georgia, who have organized and have done the work. And so i think the momentum is with us. And that is why President Trump is berating the governor and berating the secretary of state and telling the world that theres fraud. And its not true. So, he clearly feels vulnerable. And i think democrats are leaning into these races. And i think we can win them. Now, theres been raised this week by several leaders of Civil Rights Organization including National Action network and six others about concerns and diversity in the president elects cabinet. And president elect biden. And one of the concerns also is who will become secretary of agriculture. Now, in that particular area, youve been involved and sponsoring the justice for black farmers act. You sponsored that, which would offer land grants to black farmers. Can you tell me why this is such an important bill . Its so important, reverend, because in the 1920s there were 1 million black farmers. Today there is less than 50,000. And thats because theres been a hundred years of institutional racism making it harder for black farmers to succeed. Bias with the usda, bias with farm services, bias with lending. And so we want to create the opportunity to have oversight and accountability, a new civil rights division, also a new council to review systemic racism and other impediments, to have land grants and lowinterest loans, to buy up farm land that people want to sell at a fair price, and then sell that to black farmers that want to be farmers again. All right, senator Kirsten Gillibrand of new york, thank you as always when you join us. Joining me now, two women who got to work closely with donald trump on the show the apprentice. They are now both independent political strategists. Let me ask you amorosa, lets be real. You know what it is to be a token, sadly, even though you were promised to be more than that. You were the only black woman, the only black person to serve in a senior role at the trump white house. But now that president elect biden is catching hell from those of us with civil rights legacy organizations, myself included on the lack of black talent tapped for the top cabinet jobs so far. Fortunately we have a meeting with him slated later this week, a hopeful sign at least. But i wanted to hear from you first, amorosa, on whether you are disappointed with the biden harris roster at this time. First of all, thanks for having me on. I take a little exception with the idea of being a token. First of all, we have always had diversity in administrations and individuals who are brave enough to go serve this country. And i served previously in bill clintons administration, not as a token but as a member of his staff. And its always no, you were in a senior staff, as i said. But go ahead. Its important to have representation. I was deputy associate director of president ial personnel in clintons administration. But to the issue at hand, donald trump did not have any diversity in his white house. I was the only senior staff female, and of course we know carson is the only africanamerican male on his cabinet. I met with you and other civil rights leaders when talking about diversities. And the first important move is to have a dialogue, to have a conversation about what leadership looks like. In the previous piece you talked about the department of agriculture and how incredibly important it will be to black farmers and other initiatives to have diversity. But this challenge comes down to this. Biden has so many responsibilities and an obligation to so many people that africanamericans may find themselves disappointed, because he has so much service in this country that there are so many that he owes favors to. And theres just so many slots that he has to allocate. Tara . Well, first, i think its important to note again, and i know its been said many times, but black women have carried the Democratic Party on its back. And i think it is right and righteous that we continue to apply pressure to ensure that the biden administration, make sure that we have multiple seats at the big table, at the table where the decisions are made. Now, with that being said, i want to also reframe how we talk about diversity. Because it is not just diversity for diversitys sake. There is reams and reams of data out there that shows that diverse organizations, organizations with leadership that is diverse outperform organizations that dont have that level of leadership diversity. So i think we have to be very careful about how we talk about diversity. The fact of the matter is that when you have black men, black women, other people of color, asianamericans, latinx americans, when you have that level of diversity, more women, then organizations perform better. The data shows that there is less bribery, less fraud, as well as better outcome. So i think thats an important point to make any time we have these conversations. So, as black americans, we have never asked for anything but full and equal equality and the recognition for the contributions that we have brought to the table for the country as well as the Democratic Party. And i think thats the real point. I think clearly weve seen a lot of diversity and what has been announced so far. But the top tier positions, we still have justice, labor, education, defense, all of these positions that have not been filled, thats where the challenge is. I saluted on this show and National Action network what has been done so far with the Communications Staff and others. Clearly were not referring to them as tokens. Those are very important people with long backgrounds. But we dont want to come to the party at 10 00 and have an afterdinner drink. We want to be at the table for the meal and the real first tier meal is those positions. Let me go to this, omarosa. President trump just tweeted out that his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani has tested positive for coronavirus, and hes not even the first member of the president s legal team to get the virus, including the president. As two people who have worked closely with trump in the past, how is it possible that his inner circle has turned into a superspreader event, his own inner circle . And he still will not make a priority out of dealing with this pandemic . Hes still running around trying to prove what has already been established, that hes wrong about Election Fraud, omarosa . Rev, you know, the key here is that donald trump is the superspreader. Everyone who comes in contact with donald trump contracts covid virus. We know that he is the center of all these things. But donald trump, if he cant keep his staff and his children safe. His personal lawyer has covid. His lawyers son who works in the white house has covid. Then he cant keep americans safe. Its going to be a long 45 days because donald trump only cares about himself. And the truth is we have to buckle up and watch, because the next 45 days are going to be the most tumultuous. Because donald trump want to punish people who did not vote for him. He wants to punish those who did not give him a second term. And hes going to try to inflict as much pain and discomfort on this country including by being inactive and not having a plan to address covid19. Now, tara, youve both been contestants on the apprentice, spent plenty of time in Donald Trumps orbit. Election day was over a month ago, yet hes not letting up. The tiny speech over the holiday, the superspreader grievance rally in georgia last night. Its easy to look at it all as theater, him trying to stay out of prison. But is this more dangerous than just another trump con . Is he delusional or truly dictatorial . All of trumps kinds are dangerous. And omarosas absolutely right. He wants to inflict pain on people. He also wants to create as much chaos and damage and even more division than hes already created so that when president elect biden and Vice President letelect kamala harri assume their positions that they can be preemptively sabotaged. This is also another con in terms of moneymaking. Trump owes a lot of money. And we know that he funneled money through his campaign into his various entities because his businesses are failing, and hes deeply in debt. That makes him even more dangerous. Everything that trump does is dangerous, and he doesnt care because he only cares about himself. But we must continue to remind people that we should not stop, we should not relent on reminding people of what hes doing and why hes doing it. What is he, somewhere near a half a billion dollars in debt . Its no secret that a lot of this fundraising hes doing under the auspices of Election Fraud or voter fraud which we know is untrue is about also trying to get money for his failures. All right, omarosa and tara, thank you both for being with me this evening. Coming up is something weve rarely seen before. The Current Senate majority leader caught in tears. So what makes stonecold Mitch Mcconnell cry . Thats next. But first my colleague cory coffin with todays other top news stories. Good evening to you. And stories were watching this hour. Covid19 numbers are still on the rise across the country with more than 14. 6 million cases and more than 281,000
