I mean it was a private conversation. I dont think he knows everything, although he might. Lets understand that many in our Intelligence Community<\/a> believe the russians at least have a recording of the conversation. And we have good technical means to understand, perhaps what their readout is, even if we dont have literally the transcript. But there are dangers in a private conversation, especially the timing. I dont fault mike pompeo for that. I thought it was a good hearing on both sides, yes, it was contentious, but members came ready to play and werent just grand standing. There were some of that. But the questions were substantive and pompeo was ready. And i think thats a useful exercise for the American Public<\/a> to learn whats going on and i think we all have a right to learn. Pompeo could make the argument that mr. Its nikki haley, general mattis or he himself is taking action to be tough on russia, but was he successful in trying to convince senators that the president understands the threat that russia is . And that the president is taking serious action . Because we have to remind our audience trump didnt want to impose sanctions. Congress made him do it. Well, i think pompeo is right that the actions of the administration are tough. And the sanctions, remember, it was congress that did some of that stuff. Thats the president didnt. Yeah. They did the sanctions packages on russia, iran and north korea, which was veto proof. Some of his rhetoric, no question, has been conciliatory, if not down right friendly to Vladimir Putin<\/a>. I agree with that. People are confused. And there was a mopup action after helsinki. No question. And this declaration on crimea is a piece of that because it is absurd that we would permit the russian annexation of crimea just because President Trump<\/a> says so. At any rate, people are confused. I mean thats why you see the poll numbers tanking in terms of his approval. For sure, republican members of congress are very worried about the midterms, which are coming around the corner and the fact that a lot of the old guard is being rejected, including on the republican side, see the election that just happened, the primary in georgia for governor. So i dont know if this how this gets fixed. Change of mind on the tariffs in europe is very interesting. For sure, that was gigantic election pressure from people not just in the midwest, not just the farmers, but from Car Manufacturers<\/a> et cetera. So, i mean theres a confluence of developments here the Trump Administration<\/a> has done a 180 on a couple of issues, and the future unclear. As pompeo said yesterday, the president calls the plays. They all get that. The president calls the plays. Watch what they do. One of the reasons were so confused is while he can correct himself and say i do believe the intelligence agencies as it relates to the russian cyber attack, then says, but again, it could be anyone. For bob corker, a republican to say that the president was submissive and deferential to putin in helsinki, of course the American People<\/a> of confused. The question is what will republicans do about it . I think getting reelected is a primal instinct, and these days sadly to the detriment of the country, in both parties. Both parties soo em to prize that. I get it i ran for election many times, but the rhetoric used to be a couple of decades ago, whats in the interest of the country. To put facebook losses in perspective, it shed more than the entire market value of mcdonalds yesterday. Think about that and think about how big facebook has grown. When you saw Mark Zuckerberg<\/a> testify on the hig, it was pretty clear hes not getting regulated any time soon. Well, here are the factors that really september the stock down last night. First the company missed expectations on revenue and user growth. Earnings beat expectations but the revenue earnings and number were just a hair lighter than expected. What really september the stock tumbling was during the Earnings Call<\/a> when the cfo warned that Revenue Growth<\/a> was going to continue to decelerate pretty significantly in both the third and Fourth Quarter<\/a> of the year. They were expecting margins to continue to decline as they invest moth invest more in safety and security. Its really the warnings about whats in the future thats particularly waring on the stock. Lets stay on the safety and security. Is Mark Zuckerberg<\/a> tells us he really has to spend an enormous amount of money, time and effort to fix the Security Issues<\/a> . Maybe theres a net positive. If suddenly theyre saying, okay, its going to cost a whole lot more, maybe its a positive. Yes. I mean hes definitely managing this company for the longterm. If you think about facebook, instagram, whats app, even when were mad at facebook, people are still using it. But, where they make their money, thats what matters to investors. What are advertisers doing . Well, so its interesting because revenue still grew significantly. 40 Revenue Growth<\/a> in the quarter, but so far, facebook up until now has been growing very quickly. This quarter we actually saw the slowest user growth. In europe where there are the new privacy regulations, we saw users drop for the first time ever. There are 3 million fewer daily active users in europe in the first warter im sorry in the Second Quarter<\/a> than there were in the first. Up until now, the growth of the platform has been one factor thats been driving Revenue Growth<\/a>. Right now not seeing as dramatic user growth drive the Revenue Growth<\/a>. Its going to be about the addition of new ads. One factor that could weigh on growth Going Forward<\/a> is that now a lot of growth is going to be coming from ads in stories. Instagram stories that are so popular, rather than growth from ads in the news feed. Sort of maxed out on how many more ads they can put there. Right now, the story ads are not as profitable. President trump is moving forward with his 12 billion emergency aid package for farmers. But in is a temporary fix to a problem of the president s own creation. Trumps trade war kicked off with tariffs on steel and aluminum. Other countries retaliated by hitting the u. S. With tariffs o 11 billion in losses for farmers of soy beans, cotton, meet, dairy and pork. To counter them the department of agriculture will authorize 12 billion. President did this on his own. Instead of relying on a program this is a depression era policy the president used known as the commodity credit corporation. Its basically insurance for farmers. The 12 billion is going to be divided into direct payments for farmers, expansion of surplus purchasing, and efforts to promote u. S. Agriculture outside the United States<\/a>. It is likely that this decision is completely political. Several Key Senate Races<\/a> that strong in the states. Indiana, north dakota and missouri. I know you have spent the last few weeks on the road talking to farmers about the concerns. I want you to walk us through the importance of where we are. President trump created this trade war in the last four months but for many farmers, for many manufacturers, weve had trade issues for decades and in some ways, theyre glad he is addressing this issue headon. Reporter stephanie, theyre glad hes addressing the issue because as you said, theyve been frustrated for decades. They are becoming more efficient in growing crops. Theyve got new equipment, able to produce at a higher rate for lower cost, but the issue, though, is that this is the president as a candidate who promised them he was going to renegotiate nafta, play hardball with china and open and expand the markets. But what has happened is that theyve only lost those markets. One of the programs, 12 billion Financial Aid<\/a> program that the president announced 48 hours ago, one of those pieces to help out the farmers was building in the government working with the private sector to build foreign markets, because take this soy bean farmer. Hes about to meet with the president here. He produces about 2600 acres of soy beans. Half of them in the United States<\/a>, stephanie, go overseas, 60 go to china. So without those markets, places like brazil, argentina, other countries, are year, after year, producing soy beans at higher rates. 12 billion is going to help with immediate losses but the question is longterm. If the likes of china, these foreign buyers he has worked to build relationships, if they no longer turn to him this year, what about next year . Will they be turning to argentina and brazil . Thats the concern he said hes going to be meeting here with the president in the next hour. Thats what he said he will be voicing as his major concern. All right. Is steve with us . Can we hear him . Well steve, walk us through this. Because will this aid be enough to cover the losses that could be created by a trade war . Reporter its one of those things where we really appreciate the fact ifthat the president and administration has recognized the position they put us in as producers. 12 million, once you start dividing up, its just a short term fix. And its not going to, by any means make us whole or make me whole as a producer. But its going to help fill part of the gap thats been created by that. The hope is that we do get some stable longterm results out of this. I know past embargoes and so forth, once weve become known as a unreliable source for their needs, then they go looking for other place, and it takes a long time to earn those markets back. Steve, if china does end up getting all of their soy beans from brazil but europe increases what he buys, will it be a one for one . Can they make up for it . I dont know that that would make up for it entirely, because china has been a large part of our export markets. Weve worked hard as an industry and agriculture to build those markets, and to be a reliable supplier to them for soy beans. So they have always shown a preference for wanting to buy u. S. Soy beans, and they amount to a large percentage of our overall soy bean exports. What does this do to other types of farmers, or other industries that are hurt by the tariffs . Theres a risk here that the president creates a 12 billion aid program for one group but theres a lot of others who to be knocking on the door saying what about me. Theres a question whether that 12 billion will be able to cover the industrying ies it do. But that does not cover any potential future retaliatory tariffs. Its going to help the likes of steve, but not helping those in the fisheries, not helping the plastics, not helping coal miners, manufacturing plant in missouri. Theres a litany that are impacted by these tariffs that it is not helping, which over the course of these next months will have to be continuing to look at, because the president yesterday in that announcement with the eu it was simply an announcement to begin negotiations. There was no eliminations of the tariff between the u. S. And eu. In tariffs between the u. S. And the eu. A complicated situation. Accusations that donald trump and his former lawyer made other hush money payments before the election. Now theyre out. Michael avenatti, you know this guy, lawyer for stormy daniels, tweeted this earlier. Breaking donald trump conspired with Michael Cohen<\/a> to pay off multiple other women prior to election day in 2016. They were also concerned about a pregnancy. Cohen has evidence and info in his possession and it must be released to the public now. Cohen has already released a taped conversation with trump about paying off a former playboy playmate with the promise of more to come. The government has now seized more than 100 recordings cohen made of his conversations with people that could relate to trump and his businesses and with trump himself talking. With me now, the woman who truly knows best, emily jane fox, Senior Reporter<\/a> at vanity fair, who handwriting about tru who handwriting about trump and cohen. No one knows it better than this woman. Yesterday when President Trump<\/a> was shocked and offended and amazed that Michael Cohen<\/a> would have ever taped him, we should remind our audience, trump is lying. Roy cohn, his lawyer for years and years and one of his idols, he taped conversations all the time. So trump is wellversed in that behavior. Okeydoke. Avenatti claims today he has new evidence about multiple payoffs. Do you think this is going to affect cohen any way . This is just such a circular thing that i cant figure where its even going at this point. I dont know that this would affect cohen, if it happened or didnt happen, we have not seen any evidence of it. Perhaps it exists. It wouldnt be the most shocking thing in the entire world if there is perhaps other favors during the campaign. Michael cohen knows this. The government, which seized almost 4 million documents and files and Electronic Devices<\/a> from Michael Cohen<\/a> in april, knows this. And so if it exists, it will either be used as evidence against Michael Cohen<\/a> or a way for Michael Cohen<\/a> to cooperate if he goes that route. So im not really sure what value it would serve for cohen for this to come out in advance of any of that. I understand theres a value to the American People<\/a>, but im sure that the American People<\/a> will at some point find out whether or not thats true. Just because theres a hundred tapes, do we know if theres anything incriminal naturnat nate incriminating on them . President trump having a long career of not paying contractors, hes figured out, dont sign anything, dont write anything down. Do they really get any big whoppers in these tapes . From what i understand, its necessarily whats on these recordings that could be damaging. Its the backstory behind the recordings. That could potentially make Michael Cohen<\/a> a very valuable witness should he choose to cooperate. Because he could provide valuable context for these recordings. Theres a lot of questions raised, were not sure who is saying what or why somebody is saying something. Michael cohen can provide that context should he choose to do so with prosecutors. What are people telling you about his head space . When i think back to the campaign, there was not a more ardent supporter, outspoken surrogate for President Trump<\/a>. Think back to some of the more ridiculous Television Interviews<\/a> he did, defending President Trump<\/a>, and saying he would take a bullet for him. It was as though he put trump before all else in his life. Is he still there . No. I would say it is a complete 180. I interviewed him last august and thats when he said i would take a bullet for the president and for his family. That is not the sense i get right now. He would take a bullet for his family. He would do anything he could to get his family out of this situation. Hes not only very frustrated and angry and watching his family suffer in a deep way, but hes in deep financial trouble as well. And so he has done a real turn in terms of where he is mentally. And i think it will be reflected in what he chooses to do Going Forward<\/a>. Take me to the trumps. You just wrote a book on the trump family, specifically the trump children. Why do you think we havent heard from them . Its not like ivanka trump doesnt have a public presence. I see her, shes going on the road with the president today, shes on twitter. If my dad was accused of adultery over and over again, trump has denied it, why havent we heard from them . Why wouldnt they get out there and say my father would never do Something Like<\/a> this . When she was asked at the olympics about her fathers d daliances, and she said thats not an appropriate question to ask a daughter. I think there is no upside for ivanka personally to say something. But how could ivanka say its inappropriate to ask a daughter of the president . She has sat for interviews next to her father on the howard stern show as the president discussed her breasts. Youre asking me to explain something that take me inside the house of trump. This is how ivanka operates. Shes one who only does things that serve her. It doesnt necessarily serve the American People<\/a>. It doesnt necessarily serve the women and children and families shes supposed to be helping out when she took her job in the west wing. If it serves her brand and it serves her fathers brand, thats all that matters. Speaking out on these issues dont serve those two things. Theres no world in which she would say anything in this situation. I just know if suddenly all over the media it was reported that my dad was cheating on my mom with a playmate, i would sure as heck come out there and defend my dads honor if in fact he hadnt done anything.
