Floor. The real problem here is in the senate. Democrats seem to have reached their Breaking Point after supporting cr after cr. There have been four since october. And each time that happens the democrats have to go home to explain why it doesnt include any of the their protesters, most notably the daca issue. I think some of them have just gotten to the point where they can no longer explain. The fact that President Trump used that kind of language we heard from him last weekend in a private meeting, thats inflamed things as well. You have mark warren and tim kaine of virginia who voted for the last continuing resolution. You have Patrick Lay Hee Of Vermont who the opposed to the funding bill. We are looking at a scenario where the house is probably going to trying to get this wrapped up by 7 00 or 8 00 tonight. The senate might move quickly, but, again, very difficult to count to 60 votes in the senate. Were closer to a Government Shutdown than at any point since december 2013. I think the idea is that this does look like potentially the real daily. Jeremy, john kelly got a lot of attention for his comments last night about the president and his border wall. Take a listen. I told him this has been an evolutionary process this president has gone through as a campaign. And i pointed to it that they all say things during the course of campaigns. A source close to the president says kelly has ventured into steve bannon territory. What are you hearing, jeremy . First of all, how did this happen and where does the relationship between kelly and the president stand right now . I dont know how badly damaged it is, chris, but this is slightly overblown because what kelly is saying, of course, is 100 true. You do have the president going on twitter and tormenting a top aide, which, of course, is a favorite past time of his, but the president s thinking on the issue of the wall has changed in one key respect, and thats that he is no longer demanding that it stretch across the entirety of the southern border. Thats all kelly was pointing out. The president knows this cant go in certain places. The president himself admitted that. So how deep this cuts into what has ban pretty Strong Healthy working relationship, i think thats a different matter. I think the way some reports are exaggerating this, i would say i wouldnt read too much into that one thing that wont get in the way of what has to happen in the next 35 hours off so, jeff bennett at the house. Jeremy peters, thanks to all of you. Warren davidson is member of the Freedom Caucus. American people want to know whats going to happen. Mark meadow says they dont have the votes to pass this shortterm spending bill. You said this morning you probably will vote no. Whats your thought right now . I think were all still waiting for the senate. The house passed what were for in september. The house truly doesnt actually need to act today because were not in receipt of anything from the senate. The house plans to vote tonight, and its not clear whether thatll have the votes. I believe the speaker believes we have the votes, and i assume thats why were still on schedule. What about your fellow members in the Freedom Caucus . I know a lot of folks that are silently a no. From what i think i know, theres enough it wouldnt pass with republican votes. Thats not consistent with what democrats are saying. Theyre saying theyre all no unless theres a daca deal. Thats really frustrating because essentially democrats are picking 800,000 people whose parents brought them here illegally over funding our defense. What the house has been for since september is fully funding defense for the full year, and then taking the time to negotiate with democrats, to negotiate with the senate to w out the nondefense numbers. But beyond defense and daca, im not trying to minimize those at all, but what about the whole idea of yet another cr . When you look at what people who voted for donald trump and voted for a lot of republicans in 2016 said, theyre so tired of this and business as usually and you folks not being able to get this done. Thats exactly right. That has been the status quo. Its hard to stay on offense when you keep punting. Its time for us to do the things we said we were going to do. And, frankly, the senate has issuing with house republicans, not just the country. Its very frustrating to see the senate not put some things weve done on the floor. Frankly, they only passed 20 of the bills the house has send them to pass or even taken a vote on a number of them. Theyve taken a vote on slightly more than that and now and then and fall short. You republicans have the majority in the house. You have the majority in the senate. You have the president of the United States. And there are republicans who say they will vote against this cr. If the government shuts down, how can you blame the democrats . You know theres a 60vote rule in the senate. We need nine democrats to bring its to a vote. If you watch closely, the fisa debate on tuesday, they put that on the floor and it wasnt clear they were going to put that to 60 votes. We should have that sort of vote on the floor of the senate. There hasnt been a need for a single cr this year. The house passed our bills in september ahead of the october 1st deadline. If they had simply put this on the floor in the senate back in september, we could have potentially moved forward, you are defense caused the defenses they need. We in the house agreed to spend more than the administration asked for, and why, because if you look at this year, ships crashed into each other, more Training Fatalities than combat fatalities. Unfortunately we have been involved in a fair bit of combat. This highlights the problems with readiness because of the way the military was handled under the Previous Administration under the sequester. Some bad decisions were made with respect to our troops and readiness. These are being held captive over a negotiation with nine democrats previously eight democrats in the senate. Its not even clear youre going to get the republican votes on the senate side either, but we appreciate it, warren, david. Were watching the door of Air Force One because the president has touched down there outside of pittsburgh. The president has two things hes going to do today. Hes going to go to on Equipment Company doing what arguably republicans want him to do, and that is to tout what they see as his achieves and the success they think of the tax cuts that he signed into law late last year. In addition to that hes going to go and campaign in pennsylvania Congressional District number 18. Hes stepping out and waving and clapping. Fascinating district for a special election because this is a district where he won by nearly 20 Percentage Points around al gainny county. But its a place where the race has gotten close, Single Digits. Well be watching this for you throughout our hour today. We just lenders White House Communications director hope hicks will indeed meet with the House Intel Committee tomorrow. What do they hope to learn from her and will she answer their questions unlike steve bannon and Cory Lewandowski . Pssst. What . I switched to geico and got more. More savings on Car Insurance . Aha. And an awardwinning mobile app. That is more. Oh, theres more. Mobile id cards, emergency roadside service. More technology. I can even add a new driver. Right from her phone geico. Expect great savings and a whole lot more. For the white house to not stand on Legal Authority but just muzzle a witness and keep that witness from talking to us. It was only when he got this notion that im going to create a privilege that no ones ever heard of that doesnt exist in the law, that was a slipup to me. Bannon could get a Second Chance if he appears before the House Intelligence Committee today as request, but there are some who are skeptical hell make it there. You know, as is sometimes the case with witnesses we have compelled to attended, we dont know whether they, in fact, show up. Joining me is reporter juliaanesly. Someone whos been close to the president into the president ial campaign and white house, what should she know that the Intel Committee might want to know . The question is is what is she going to say . Shes been with trump and the trump organization for really the whole arc of his businesses coming into politics, the campaign, the recession, and the white house. Shes actually still in the white house, unlike Corey Lewandowski and steve bannon. Independently think it would be unlikely she would break the pattern weve seen this week. Bannon claiming that he might have to be subject to Executive Privilege. Corey lewandowski said he wasnt prepared. We can expect something along those lines from hope hicks, especially because shes still in the white house and shes such a trump loyalist. The question then will be will the Committee Subpoena hope hicks the way they did steve bannon . Its looking from what adam schiff was saying there that this could be heading toward a court fight, at least with bannon. Were not hearing of bannon going to the hill today. What are we hearing about his negotiations to talk to Robert Mueller . An fbi agent showed up at bannons house to subpoena him to speak, but since then hes been given another option, that he would like to take, which would be to voluntarily speak to muellers investigators. This is the route that most people in trumps orbit have decided to take. Youre not under subpoena or under oath, but, of course, it is wrong to lie to the fbi. You can basically say anything you want in that situation as long as you dont lie. And then if they dont think they get as much information, then Robert Mueller could issue a subpoena in that case. Whats important to keep in mind is that it is easier for Executive Privilege to withhold in an a congressional setting than a grand jury setting. Judges are likely to say you cant use that. Thank you for that. I want to i think from in a former Assistant Director for counterintelligence at the fbi and an nbc news national security contributor. Lets start with hope hicks. We know shes already spoken to bob muellers team. What do you make of this and how could this fit into the overall picture that both of these congressional committees and bob mueller are trying to piece together . If theres anyone whos been the proverbial Fly On The Wall in the white house, its hope hicks. And so were likely to see a claim of Executive Privilege with her. Id be shocked if we dont for her testimony on the hill. Lets remember what shes been privilegy to o, the drafting of the letter to fire james comey. Theres reports that the response on the Trump Tower Meeting by President Trump and done juniors meetings with russians, she was a part of that. We know Jared Kushner gave her a heads up about don juniors meeting with russians. She understand what was going on, was present when it happened, and is a key witness. I think were going to see her claim Executive Privilege. She hasnt been able to do that with bob mueller. John kelly was asked about bannon citing Executive Privilege, and heres what he said. Did the white house tell him to invoke Executive Privilege . No. No . No. Steve has had very, very little contact with the white house since he left. I know steve a little bit, not very well. So bannons attorney who we should also note is white House Counsel attorney, has said it wasnt Executive Privilege, that the white house did, though, put parameters on what could be spoken ability either way, is that lawful . Look, we have an issue here, an interesting conflict developing. The white House Counsel is represented by burke. Burke is representing bannon. Now hes got one client, ma gann calling shots on Interview Parameters trying to silas another client. I see a conflict developing here. The American People pay him to represent the office of the president , not to represent donald trump. Im having trouble seeing how he can call shots when he has a selfinterest in what bannon says about him potentially. Someones got to accuse themselves here. In the meantime, The Big Question everybody has is would donald trump actually go and talk to mueller and his team if Indeed Helper called before them . And ty cobb was asked about that. The president is eager to sit down and explain whatever is responsive to the questions. Do you have any fear of a perjury trap . No, but i think it would be affordable to not proceed without considering that possibility. If youre trumps lawyer, how much does the possibility of a perjury trap worry you . I think they should be concerned here. Its been interesting to see the president shift in tone. Yes, im eager to help out, ill cooperate, but now there should be no interview from because theres no collusion. Hes got the same choices to make. Former Assistant Director for counterintelligence at the fbi. Good to talk to you, frank. Were keeping our eye on the pittsburgh area where the president will take that tour of a Manufacturing Plant before touting the new tax law. Hes also in pennsylvania to stump for a local republican whos running for tim murphys old congressional seat. Facility and then hell be talking about the tax cuts he signed into law and what he believes it means for jobs. That isnt the only reason President Trump is visiting pennsylvania today. Hes also there to support state representative rick saccone, hes the Republican In The March Special Election to fill the house seat vacated by tim murphy. Murphy resigned in october after asking his mistress to have an abortion. Interesting day, the president throwing his support behind roy moore in alabama, doug jones won. Weve seen theres been a pattern now, the virginia races, the democrats have done well. Is it possible that the president s support for rick saccone will not be helpful or even backfire . Yeah, it is very possible. Listen, he won that district, donald trump did, by 19 points just over a year ago, but a lot has happened in a year. Its not clear at all whether hes going to be such a helpful force. Right now you have two things simultaneously. You have a very unpopular president whose policies arent that popular. On the other hand you have a highly motivated democratic base. When they see donald trump come into the district, thats a red flag before the bull yes eye. Obviously the white house thinks he helps more. It would be embarrassing, frankly, for the president not to go into a district like this. Remember, it was a republicanheld district and that candidate should be the winner. The fact that its competitive tells you about what a changed political environment. And he thinks hes still the best person out there to save the congress for the republicans. He plans to devote a lot of his time keeping republicans in control. He said, quote, im going to spend probably four or five days a week helping people because we need more republicans. Im remembering back in the early days of the Health Care Fight and i said he was going to be out on the road all the time and that never materialized. What do you think . Is he actually going to be out there a lot and will republicans want him to be . It should congresswoman to a relief to republicans if hes not in the white house. When he was in asia, the republicans specifically paul ryan, thought that would be a good time to make progress on the tax bill. Its going to be difficult he can just go to deep red places and help run up the score. He can go to places where the democrats have not had a terrific candidate and get the sense hes helping the party. But there are a lot of places where hes not going to be helpful. Imagine him going to Northern Virginia where i live. Barbara comstock is one of the most endangered people. He can do fundraisers behind closed doors. But i suspect there will be a lot of republicans who are going to be having their nails done that day. You know the president in a race that was closely watched in wisconsin, democrats are celebrating a victory in a state representative race just as they did in virginia. Governor scott tweeted that this could be a wakeup call. What can republicans do . Can they do anything at this point to try to prevent a blue wave in november . Are we going to see more republicans even in those red districts distancing themselves from the president . I think they will. Its going to be hard to do. One thing they can do is not to shutdown the government, which they think somehow theyre going to blame on the democrats. Thats not going to work out so well. The second is really going to turn on what they do when Special Prosecutor comes out with his report. Do they simply run to protect the president or if its serious, do they take some real action . The third thing they can do is working on some of the priorities voters really care about. Remember once upon a time they were going to do infrastructure reform . Infrastructure building . They havent done any of that right now. Right now theres a good argument from the democrats that a lot of what theyve done has s helped business and the wealthy but what about the trump voter, the fortu voter, the forgotten man and woman . If they dont make a mess of the government funding problem, maybe some of them can hang on. Listen, the party that does have the white house loses a lot of seats in the midterm. Thats kind of the way it works. When the president is unpopular, they lose even more seats. So frankly theres not a lot of things these will be able to do. Good to see you, jennifer. Youll recall during the 2016 president ial race the National Rifle association stood firmly behind donald trump. But just how far did their support from the republican candidate go . Well, a report today says the fbi is investigating whether a russian blank with ties to the kremlin illegally funneled money to the nra to help trump win. Good to see you. So the blank is known to have connections with the kremlin and the nra. What did you learn about how this alleged Funneling Tao took place. We dont know there was cullening, chris. My partner, peter stone, led the way on this, did great sleuthing. But what we do know is that the fbis Counterintelligence Division has been investigating to try to determine whether torsion funneled money to the nra. I want to emphasize, we dont know that the nra got money. We dont know whether if the nra got money knew the source of the funds. But what we do know is we now have a new avenue through which the fbi suspects the russians may have been trying to influence the election. So the nra just told nbc news, quote, they have not been contacted by the fbi or any other investigative body. But what did they have to say about your report and what did they say when you or your colleague tried to contact them about it . Unfortunately we couldnt get the nra to respond in any way. They have been totally mum. And so we dont know. You just provided some information to me thats appreciated. Whether or not the fbi contacted the nra, however, doesnt preclude theres an investigation. Remember that this all started as a Counterintelligence Investigation to try to determine what the russians were doing to in the middle our election in 2016. Theres two parts to it. Theres a criminal part and the counterintelligence part which often these go on for years and then the results are maybe never made public because they want to protect sources and methods and so forth. But this began as an attempt to figure out what the russians were doing. If the fbi, of course, finds money somehow made its way to the nra for perhaps dark money to their advocacy groups, that would raise the temperatures on this investigation. Are they required to disclose all donors . The nra has an arm thats a dark money group. Those donors are protected. The courts have ruled that corporations, wealthy individuals and so forth can make donations to dark money groups. However, foreign money, be it corporate, individual, o government is not permitted in u. S. Federal elections. Greg gordon, thank you, appreciate it. First, why evangelical voters are a key block that got trump the election in 2016 and are they happy with their vote. Theres nothing more important than your health. So if youre on medicare or will be soon, you may want more than parts a and b heres why. Medicare only covers about 80 of your part b medical expenses. The rest is up to you. You might want to consider an aarp Medicare Supplement insurance plan, insured by unitedhealthcare insurance company. Like any Medicare Supplement insurance plan, these help pick up some of what medicare doesnt pay. And, these plans let you choose any doctor or hospital that accepts medicare patients. You could stay with the doctor or specialist you trust. Or go with someone new. President trump talking about the wall. Lets listen. I think general kelly has done a really great job. Hes a very special guy. [ Inaudible Question ] about what . [ Inaudible Question ] New York City he didnt say that. He didnt say it the way you would like him to say. Hes doing a terrific job. We have a big immigration problem. You see what happened. You see whats going on, and we have a big problem. Well see if we can get it straightened out. The democrats because of the tremendous success were having with the tax cuts and the tax reform, i mean, these gentlemen, they own this facility and you look at whats happening. They said, you know, its just the last six months we havent had anything like it. They almost cant take anymore work. When you look at that and you see whats happening and this is real america, the democrats want to see a shutdown to get off the subject because this subject isnt working for them. The tax cuts and tax reform has not been working well for the democrats. Yesterday you saw with apple, 350 billion investment, now theyre giving thousands of dollars to their employees. Thats happening all over the country. People are really doing well, theyre doing better than they have in years. To be honest, the tax cuts not only have they worked, theyre working much bigger and much faster than we ever thought possible. Well talk to you later. [ Inaudible Question ] rick saccone is a great guy. I think hes going to do really well. Hes a great guy, loves this area, loves his country. He just met me at the plane. Hes here someplace. Actually, this is about tax cuts today, you know, our economic reform. Rick is a great guy and special, hes a special person. You won this district by 20 points, can he do as well as you . I hope so. Were going to be helping. Ill be back for rick and were going to fill a stadium and do Something Special for rick. I look forward to it. A lot of Steel Workers possible shutdown . Well see what happens. I believe the democrats want to a shutdown to get off the subject of the tax cuts because they worked so well. Nobody thought, including the democrats, it could work this well. Theyve been so good i think that the democrats would like to see a shutdown in order to get off that subject. Thats not a good subject for them because of the way they worked. A lot of Steel Workers are looking for help from your administration. Were going to be helping them. Do you have a timeline when youre going to be respond . Just like we helped the groups here. I love this business and i understand this business. When i see that going into that, and thats a 1980 version. Thats an amazing thing. Its brandnew and its got a brandnew life. So that will be as good as if it were brandnew. Thats a 1980 and it looks like it just came out of the factory brandnew. Thank you very much. Rick saccone, great man. The president talking to the pool there talking about the republican candidate in the 18th District of pennsylvania. Thats a district where he won by almost 19 points, but where the race is now down to Single Digits and its being very closely watched as a harbinger of what might happen in november. The message hes giving there and we expect from him in the next hour, what republicans want him to stick to, which is the economy. Saturday marks one year since donald trump became president. And the New York Times Editorial Board have been critical of the president. They asked Trump Reporters to share their thoughts on his first year in office. Let me give you a sampling of what they said. Jason peck wrote, i voted against Hillary Clinton more than i voted for donald trump. That said, President Trump has competed my wildest expectations. David mac neil from new jersey wrote, Opinion Polls give mr. Trump a low rating, and i would too, for character, personality, and temp raiment, but i give him high marks for policies and programs that are stimulating the private sector. Another wrote mr. Trump is vulgar yan in the way he tweets and sometimes talks. However, his presidency is better than his tweets. One demographic that was key to Donald Trumps victory, white evangelical voters. According to exit polls, trump won 80 of the votes cast by this group. We sit down with a group of christian conservatives. How do they describe how they see the president s first year in office. Not so different from what you just spoke about. Really . They are concerned the president s getting a bad rap, that the media is talking about him too much, and they want folks to focus on what hes done, from the economy to the tax reform to appointing jerusa. They say you concentrate on that and not on other things and youll see hes a fantastic president. Listen to what they said. Has the president lived up to your expectation. Kind of broken into categories. I think hes doing well in policy but the character is an issue, at times. What has he done in character that has disappointed you. What he said in the Oval Office Last week about other nations. That is contrary to what christ would stand for in the bible and what christians would be about. I think there is a lot of frustration both with him and with the press. A lot of sense of people are at the point where they just are beginning to not care. Relationship matters. And if everybody who disagrees with him walked away from him, then we just lost our voice too. And that is not wise. Lets talk about daca. And if there are people in your community who have concerns about what the president s position is on daca. There is a misnomer that this president is out to go into neighborhoods and tear families apart. So in my vocation, i have to be able to say, look, were here to offer hope. I cant break the law. I cant i cant use my church as a sanctuary church. But then im torn because im looking at families with the potential of being ripped apart. It is a real difficult place to be. I think we need more conversation around it. If you had an opportunity to speak to the president , what would you say to the president . Would you appeal to his vanity. I would tell him, you are not serving your ego well. Go out of outside of the beltway and do more rallies, connect more with actual every day people, the people that put you in the white house. What is it you want them to pressure weak Republican Leadership in congress to do this year . What do you believe that the Faith Community would like to see from the president going forward. I think we would like to see religious liberty. Teeth to it and legislation behind it. What does that mean . If i own a venue and i believe marriage is between one man and one woman, and a gay couple says i want to get married here, my gay wedding at your venue and that owner says not at this venue because we dont celebrate that. I would love to see states say, were going to criminalize abortion and stop this murdering of unborn people. What would you like the president to do. I would like him to follow the word of god, there is an answer in the bible for every issue. And if he just follows that, we will be blessed. And that we could be a blessing to others. They want a president who really is faithbased in terms of his policies. I asked what could be a dealbreaker for you in terms of reducing your support of the president . And i was told that if something were proven to be unequivocally illegal or immoral, that might be a gamechanger. So how closely are they watching the russia investigation because i just sat down with a group of Trump Reporters and they believe it is much ado about nothing. Until somebody proves otherwise. They think were spending too much time focusing on that and not enough time complimenting the president on the things he has done. And in terms of do they have a number one thing that they like him for that they think hes accomplished . What would be the thing that they would all agree this is the reason we still support him. Religious liberties is number one. They want the president to push forward on their notion of their opportunity to have religious freedoms, as you heard them say. They believe marriage is between one man and one woman and if someone does not support that, their business should not be forced to abide by any policies that say to the contrary. Rehema ellis, fascinating. Thank you so much. And one more thing before we go. Amazon may be coming to a city near you. The ecommerce titan announced the short liz of cities that could become home to the second headquarters. A narrowing down from 238 proposal as cos the u. S. Canada and canada and mexico. 20 cities from l. A. To new york, most in the northeast, away from traditional tech hubs, only one in canada. It is a high stakes contest that is expected to bring a economic boost well beyond the 5 billion Construction Cost and as many as 50,000 highpaying jobs. Joining me now, mike rawlings,s mayor of dallas, texas, one of the cities that made the cut. Amazon is expected to make the decision later this year in the interim talking to folks like you, the finalists. Go ahead and give us your pitch. Good afternoon. Were pleased to make it into the playoffs, there is a lot of work to be done between here and there. But nobody knows growth better than dallas. Weve grown faster, wee created more jobs than anyplace in the United States of america. Nobody is better run, Milken Institute made the metro area the new one area as far as running our city. Weve got hundreds of thousands. The largest Tech Employer in the state of texas. And we have some of the brightest minds that are ready to go to work for amazon. And is there going to be a tax break offer . I know newark offered 7 billion in state tax breaks. Chicago 1. 32 billion in income taxes that employees would pay to the state. What is your offer . What are you saying to them . Why is this the most economically viable opgs offer you are going to get . Well first of all, it is economically viable because our cost of doing business is a lot less than any of those cities you just mentioned. But the state is very aggressive and we at the city level is going to be are going to be very aggressive as well. Our offer is in a nice bid. And it is private. So im going to keep it that way. But no one will outbid us. Mayor mike rawlings, i wish we could talk more but the president has started to speak. So i will say thank you and lets listen to donald trump. Im very familiar with the setting,s found out. This is Something Special and im thrilled to be back in pennsylvania with the hardworking men and women of h k equipment. Good job, you do. Good job.
