Check out this poll. At the top with 27 , Bernie Sanders followed by Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, joe biden, Elizabeth Warren. But take a look more closely for the numbers of buttigieg and klobuchar. They have seen an eight point surge, but biden is down six. Keep in mind as always the grain of salt caveat. This poll missed on iowa but when you factor in the mar error, sanders and buttigieg are up top and then a close race for third. Shaq, if youre Bernie Sanders kicking off one of the four events here today, you have to feel good. Thats right. It seems like hes really feeling good right now and hes starting an event right now. That is not him. Helps not on stage, you see ben and jerry, some of his surrogates warming up the crowd. But he will be on the stage at any minute now. You can get the sense that senator sanders is feeling good. He was out with his family this weekend. Hes been having plenty of events. Hell continue having the events and talking to the Sanders Campaign you can tell their focus really is on turnout. Touching their supporters. One of the events that senator sanders will be having is a canvas kickoff and getting his volunteers to knock on the doors. Senator sanders has been focused on mayor pete and while he has that lead, mayor pete is right behind him. He had that surge out of iowa. He has been bringing up mayor pete regularly on the campaign trail saying that mayor pete gets support from the billionaire class. Senator sanders telling the supporters that it matters where you get your money from and making the argument hes closing in on 7 million individual donations while mayor pete has gotten support from 40 billion donors. Mayor pete saying it doesnt matter where you get your support from, but about your agenda and policy proposals. But the point is this is still a close race. I dont think any are taking it for granted and thats why theyre having as many voter interactions as possible. Senator sanders will have a big concert rally with the strokes and aoc. Its a big organizing event and the last event before the primary. An event they hope will continue that momentum and really lead him to victory come tomorrow. Hallie . Whats so interesting, too, i want to go over to vaughn hillyard, as shaq notes you have Pete Buttigieg going after not only Bernie Sanders but joe biden as well. What have you heard from him so far this morning . I think he wrapped up a stop where you are. Exactly. Hell be i think arriving here momentarily. Were up in plymouth, New Hampshire. To give you an idea the buttigieg campaign, this the is message, and again here in New Hampshire theyre going everywhere. This community of plymouth, Bernie Sanders acquired 80 of the vote here. So to give you an idea a day before the New Hampshire primary, this is where Pete Buttigieg is stopping. Shaq was mentioning that Bernie Sanders was mentioning buttigieg by name and buttigieg is mentioning Bernie Sanders by name. Coming out of iowa in an essential tie and being at the top of the polling here in New Hampshire to try to create a narrative into voters minds in is a two person race. Over the weekend you saw joe biden essentially throw flares up into the air with that interesting ad, trying to compare his record as Vice President to that of his tenure, Pete Buttigiegs agenda as south bends mayor. But Pete Buttigieg has named sanders, calling out his medicare for all position. And when it did come to joe biden in that video that the former Vice President put out, he never mentioned biden by name. But instead suggested that other folks question why the south bend mayor what hes doing, running for president he said, well, this is exactly it. It is in communities like nashua, a town of 90,000, you know, south bend is a place of 100,000 and thats a message that Pete Buttigieg is saying folks like this and communities like this that need to be represented in washington. And for so long have not been represented and thats why hes running in this race, hallie . You have of course Elizabeth Warren whos been out in manchester. Ali vitali, we talked about that tracking poll and warren is there in fourth. Maybe can make a run for third. We dont know. But her campaign is sending out an opening hey we have the momentum. What are they basing that on . So the momentum it wouldnt be on polls because this is not a campaign that lives and dies by the polls even when theyre up or down. But they have momentum on another important front which is fundraising. We know Elizabeth Warren is fundraising through grass roots dollars, not doing the traditional donors. Thats something she talks about a lot. But they have raised 2 million according to the fundraising email and now theyre doubling the goal to raise 4 million by tomorrow. Thats really important for someone like Elizabeth Warren. Because her campaign has long said that this is going to be a protracted primary. They have over 1,000 staffers across more than 30 states. Thats great if youre able to make it down the calendar, but you need the resources to be able to do that. So fundraising is the key metric that we look at from Elizabeth Warren. Whether or not she does well here in New Hampshire and shes a neighboring senator. She is someone who had a third place finish in iowa. She bested the former Vice President. Yes, theyre important, yes wed like to do well here and theyre looking ahead to super tuesday. But hallie, you make the point that trump is down the road or he will be tonight. This does provide the candidates another opportunity to show how theyll go at him and how theyll contrast against him, especially in a primary thats all about that ever present consent of concept and how to beat trump. We talked about that Pete Buttigieg pile on if you will. Joe biden the candidate that you cover has been a part of that to some degree. Let me roll that. Oh, come on, man. You think this guy is not a barack obama. Pete has raised Campaign Contributions from over 40 billionaires. So its not just biden but Bernie Sanders going after Pete Buttigieg here. Whats behind that . What are you hearing from your sources in the campaign on that front . Well, hallie, the old saying is why do you rob banks . Because thats where the money is. Pete buttigieg is where the momentum was coming out of iowa and Biden Campaign is doing their best to stem that tide. But its so interesting, hallie, the real the talk from the Biden Campaign is all looking forward. Looking forward to South Carolina and looking forward to super tuesday. Let me explain why theyre doing that. There are a number of pillars of the candidacy, we had begun to see some chipping away. He was sort of a centrist moderate pragmatic candidate in the race and we saw Amy Klobuchar get into that. Buttigieg is among those who are trying to use obama in the campaign ads, taking that away from him. He was of course making the argument he was the best candidate to take on donald trump and Michael Bloomberg is bombarding the states making that point. The one area that the Biden Campaign thinks they have the advantage is with africanamerican voters. Until a more Diverse Coalition has an opportunity to weigh in, that hes not going to be conceding anything. The problem with that, hallie, is there are 18 days between New Hampshire and South Carolina. 21 days until super tuesday. Right. Theres lot of questions being raised in the days ahead about whether this campaign can last that long. So we say the Vice President , hes going to be making a full effort. He started the day delivering doughnuts to some bus drivers here in nashua. Hell try to finish strong here knowing that a fourth or worse place can be a blow to his candidacy. And theyre not getting out of the race, after New Hampshire theyre in the this for the long haul. But frankly as i look at the team of road warriors, so are all of the people you cover. Vaughn, how does that play out for Pete Buttigieg looking at nevada and looking at South Carolina coming up. Places that do have a more diverse electorate where somebody like a joe biden could be more successful. Are they still focused on the next 24 hours here . That is why an iowa win was paramount and why a strong New Hampshire performance was so important. Tape that dont have they dont have the same resources on the ground in the later early states, nevada and the South Carolina as the other campaigns but this campaign, a Campaign Official has contended here to us that its important to have the momentum and to have the backing and then be able to have the Financial Resources when you need to utilize them. This is a campaign thats raised more than 4 million since caucus night. At that point theyll be able to go up with advertising. They did just launch a million ad buyin in South Carolina and we should expect to see him switch out over the next few weeks. But as you noted theres been no evidence to date that Pete Buttigieg has been able to grow support over the last year of his campaign with communities of color. The question is as Pete Buttigieg and his campaign have contended over the course of these last weeks, once people see that he can win and once people get to know him, thats when their opinion will change. You know exactly where well be heading on wednesday. Hallie, to find out from the voters where their change of opinion has taken place at all. Shaquille brewster, vaughn hillyard, ali vitali and mike memo memoli, thank you. You should definitely show up because msnbc is broadcasting here all day long. You can be in the audience with Chris Jansing coming up in 50 minutes, top of the hour. So hop in the car, listen on the way. See you here soon. We have much more coming up this hour. But back home where my day job is in washington, youve got a lot of people bracing for the possibility of more impeachment revenge after the fires on friday. Check out the new letter out from senator democratic leader Chuck Schumer. Hes asking every agency and Inspector General to investigate the retaliation against whistleblowers who report misconduct. Thats after vindman and sondland were forced out and vindmans twin brother who did not testify during the impeachment. Joining me right now is phil rucker. And the coauthor of the new bombshell blockbuster book, a very stable genius, trumps testing of america. Are you expecting more people on the chopping block here . There are plenty of impeachment witnesses who testified and still have jobs in the administration. Whats your sense . Yeah, hallie, i think we can expect that and one person who is getting a lot of attention is the whistleblower who has been in trumps gaze for months now. So well see what happens. But this is a president on the path for retaliation. He wants revenge. And hes trying to go after not only the democrats in congress who led this impeachment inquiry and voted to impeach him, but against people inside the government, officials in his own administration who in any way contributed to that investigation either through testimony or otherwise. You also have a number of impeachment witnesses, phil. Our team went back over the last 72 hours combing through whos still in or still out. Plenty have left voluntarily, but when we talk about accountability, how do you see that playing into the puzzle here . Well, the president learned through this impeachment episode with the Senate Acquittal vote that hes not going to be held accountable for this conduct and therefore he feels emboldened. Hes going to continue to do what he wants to do. And count on the fact that republicans in congress are going to have his back. Pretty much no matter what. Mitt romney of utah being the lone exception, but last weeks developments in the impeachment trial are vindication for this president. But it did rattle although youre right. But the firings did seem to rattle some Senate Republicans specifically. Right, senator johnson was talking about this. It did rattle them. Susan collins said shes concerned but nonetheless they voted to acquit the president and the president s takeaway according to his public statements and his tweets but also according to reporting over the last few days is that hes not going to face these consequences so hes going to barrel forward and continue to govern the way he wants to. Phil rucker, thanks for being with us, pal. You have the president going after some of the senators who voted to convict and remove him, not just mitt romney, but joe manchin. He found himself the target of a whole bunch of tweets. Joining me is senator manchin. Thank you for being back on the show. Thanks, stay warm. Its chillier where you are based on the comments in the president who tweeted this weekend calling you senator munchkin of West Virginia saying he was surprised and disappointed that you voted against him that your constituents are mad at you and that youre just a puppet for Chuck Schumer and nancy pelosi. I want to give you an opportunity to respond. First of all, the munchkin, im taller than him, not heavier, hes much heavier than he is. On the attack, its nothing i didnt expect. I mean, the thing i have said all along and hes a reference i didnt understand the transcript. I hope he wasnt referring to the fact that i was from West Virginia that we couldnt comprehend, i read it and it understood it. The evidence was overwhelming, hallie. And i was hopeful that the president said he wanted a fair trial in the senate. That he would bring witnesses forward and i know where i come from in West Virginia if someone accuses me of something and i know im incenocent i cant wai to show that person wrong and bring witnesses or the evidence. They did none of that. They said the president s above the law. Executive branch can do what they want to. Thats not how i interpret the constitution or federal 65 or hamilton, what his
