Will be so many questions especially for republicans but all lawmakers. Really it will go down as one of the most bizarre moments in the history of the u. S. People who we expect, leaders, presidency. One hopes he doesnt try to top to set examples and we already it in the time he has left in the office. And its no surprise that his had john cornyn down in texas saying that the president was caught not prepared for this numbers are going south among Senior Citizens because what do Senior Citizens do a lot . Outbreak that we saw, dealing they go to the doctor, because with the coronavirus broadly and they have to. That it has to be on the they have to have this checked and this fixed and that, you forefront of the minds of so know, tuned up. Many this morning. They go to the doctor a lot and they hear their doctors whom thank you very much. They trust telling them the well all be reading axios a. M. In a little while and you can truth about covid and what they sign up at signup. Axios. Com. Thanks for getting up way too early on a tuesday morning. Need to do to protect morning joe starts right now. Themselves. And theyre not going to forget im actually disturbed and concerned about the fact that all of that and believe donald our baseline of infections is trump telling them the opposite. That oh, just dominate it. Dont worry about it. You know . Still stuck at around 40,000 per youll beat it. Well, you know, 211,000 people day. Thats no place to be when youre trying to get your arms very sadly succumbed to this around an epidemic and get it to disease and others dont want to the very low baseline as you get into the situation where youre join that list. Going to be indoors more than its this is just its political malpractice, but its outdoors. We have to stop that trend and get everything going down as a country all together. Working together. Just it just says so much about donald trump as a human dr. Anthony fauci continues being. And its just the most to sound the alarm on the disturbing thing i have ever countrys high rate of infection seen painted of a u. S. As one of those people infected president. Certainly in my lifetime and with the highly contagious maybe in the history of this deadly disease just staged a country. Well, Jonathan Lemire, as maskless political stunt yesterday. Good morning and welcome to morning joe. It is tuesday, october 6th. A. P. S White House correspondent and youre actually there and it along with joe, willie and me we have White House Reporter for was really surreal that the Associated Press, jonathan helicopter coming in. A bloated, roided out president lemire. Saluting the helicopter. All right. President trump is now back at the white house. Hes inside after spending three it looked like a surreal scene nights at walter reed medical that borrowed from apocalypse now. Center with coronavirus. Truly as gene said, one of the it was a highly choreographed return last night. Strangest things we have ever the president walked out of the hospital around 6 30. He arrived back at the white seen from the white house. House just after 7 00. You were there. Walked across the south lawn, up set the scene for us. The exterior stairs and on to the truman balcony where he tell us what you observed. Well, certainly, joe, you immediately removed his mask and know, as the day went on yesterday, momentum was building posed for photos. For the president to return to started wheezing. The president gave a thumbs the white house. Chief of staff meadows was up. He said he felt good but after optimistic that could happen and then the president announced hed be coming back in the tweet climbing the stairs you can see during the afternoon which he his breathing was labored. Said he hadnt felt this good in you could also see him waving to the photographer, giving the photographer orders to get pictures from behind him as well as he was saluting to get all of the opportunity shots. 20 years and we can probably fact check that. But yes, striding through the just to make it more dangerous for her. Gold doors of the hospital, the white house says physical waving briefly to the reporters access to the president will be who were assembled there outside significantly limited and that the military facility and then staff will wear appropriate ppe boarding marine one and coming when near him. Wait, but wait. Back to the white house. They picked the right time of night, and the Washington Monument in the distance. Im confused. I thought willie, i thought it was a gorgeous setting, but a that this was not nothing to surreal scene and dangerous one because after the president worry about because the ascend president this outrus reckless laboring for air, he took off his mask. He mask, saluted as he called her to come up marine one and turned and went back inside. Behind him. The Biden Campaign had suspended get the beauty so the drop lets can go out negative ads in the last three with the washington skyline or four days since the diagnosis behind him. But i thought willie, donald but last night they were back up on twitter. So an image of joe biden in a mask and donald trump taking off his. Thats certainly an image they trump said there was nothing to worry about. Go on with your life. Why would they have to limit anything other than the fact believe is going to resonate, as that the white house as the drudge report says is a ghost one thats going to matter. That underscores the different town right now because this man has infected everybody inside perspectives of the two candidates and the two campaigns when dealing with the the white house. Coronavirus and then the incredible. Then what were watching right president strode back inside and potentially exposed others in here is he turns and walks the building to the virus. Inside without his mask. Greets whoever is inside the we should note now that yesterday, press secretary building, the residence right Kayleigh Mcenany announced that there and then shoots a video. She was positive. It points again to the flaws in he records a video because he wanted the sun setting behind him and the Washington Monument thiS White House testing system where they have relied on these daily rapid tests to create a and that landscape. Video was he said dont be afraid. Sense of invulnerability and tell that to the 211,424 despite the fact she had tested negative for several days, she families that are mourning someone. Dont be afraid. He said dont let it dominate was positive yesterday. You. After two separate briefings she as if that were a choice for a conducted outside with reporters coronavirus patient. And you could tell as he tried since the president s diagnosis, to project strength up there on that balcony that he was labored in his breathing. Potentially endangering them as well. What an unbelievable week it he did not project strength up has been. Hard to believe that one week there. He projected ignorance by not wearing the mask and he could ago, the first president ial debate had not taken place yet. Barely breathe while stand up there. Lets get into exactly what he if you want to know how much said after getting this past week has impacted the wait, i just want to say really quickly on that, dont be afraid. Polls, a week ago, people inside dont let it dominate you. You know really. In my family, in my family, the Trump Campaign very confident with florida. There are three people very close to us who we love, very very confident that they were closing the gap in arizona and that they could win arizona. Close to us that covid could be after the debate, i spoke to a death sentence. Yeah. Could be a death sentence. People in the Trump Campaign and now, you dont say that for they were deeply concerned with personal im afraid of covid. His numbers that were plummeting in a way they had not seen a its just like im afraid of the single event cause the president sea even though i have a boat. To lose support over the past im afraid of guns, even though several years. As that tuesday debate did. And now as we move forward, i own guns. Later into the week, the president catches covid. Yes, im afraid of covid. So many people around him catch you dont have to be terrified a covid. The rnc chairperson catches of covid, you dont have to stick your head under the bed but its something to be afraid covid, his Campaign Manager of. Catches covid, his press should wear masks. I have friends, good friends, who werent able to say goodbye to their mother or their secretary, his first lady catches covid. Chris christie catches covid. Ron johnson catching covid and father the number on the screen. Its spreading throughout the entire republican party. Or their parents or his numbers continue to plummet grandparents because of covid. And then that scene last night, because they died the sad, lonely deaths. Again, a surreal scene, a if thats my experience and im bizarre scene showing how younger than a lot of people who irresponsible and reckless this president is. Are going to be voting in a obviously hes going to cause month, less than a month, voting the numbers to continue to right now, i think thats plummet, losing right now to joe everybodys experience. I think thats probably your biden. 57 to 41 . Experience. I know thats mikas experience. And i talked earlier about well k people dying alone from covid. Loved one affected by this and died. Age, willie, you know, we have a the Lincoln Project picked up on that bitter, sad reality last neighbor and he got covid. Night and released this ad. And for a month after he and i talked earlier recovered from covid, he was just kind of wandering around. He had to guide him back to his place. Also, it doesnt impact you physically or kill you, but it impacts you mentally. Well get to that study too. But everything he said was so reckless last night. And there were actually one or two really i would say stupid but i think theyre really bad people. One or two really bad people in the United States senate who said, oh, yeah, covid, not much to worry about with that when they know its a lie and they know people are dying from this. These are the same liars, willie, the president a liar who said that covid wasnt come back in the fall. He said in in april even when dr. Fauci said, covid is coming back in the fall and the president said no, its not coming back in fall. Well, were in the fall he got it. The Lincoln Project is responsible for the content of he got it and the president this advertising. Couldnt even breathe last lets bring in the vice night, when he got to the top of the stairs he was wheezing last night. And his own doctor said hes not out of the woods yet. Provost for global initiatives and so youre right. From the university of hes spreading it to everybody pennsylvania, dr. Emanuel. That he forces to be close to him. It is its lasting us a willie, this is very mccaffrey, poor mr. Trump, hes sick. Also with us is dr. Michelle mcmurray. First, zeke emanuel, your thoughts on the president hes acting sick, hes a danger to others. Hes such a terrible example to leaving the hospital when his americans. Doctors who arent saying much general mccaffrey goes on to and arent revealing much, but say, i have been an infantry they do say hes not out of the leader in dangerous situations. We always work endlessly to minimize risk until forced into woods. Well, hes definitely not out of the woods. Action. Heres a guy that has how there are many, many, many cases the patients look like theyre many people has he already recovering and Getting Better and they crash. The sort of immune response overtakes. They have a blood clot, or they end up with breathing problems. Infected, willie . And so this is way too early and how many people is he going to infect now . Hes endangered so Many Secret Service members. The president is i mean, the willie, we dont know because most irresponsible act is taking that mask off. We know that hes spewing virus out still and he really, really they dont want to do contact couldnt care about what hes tracing from the scotus i have lost count how many people doing to anyone else. He demonstrated that last have walked from that super thursday in new jersey. He demonstrated that in the car spreader event for amy coney visiting his supporters and he barrett and the white house demonstrated it yesterday when he ascended the stairs and took refuses to do Contact Tracing to find out who else may have been exposed. I have a family friend who was that mask off. Just total irresponsible behavior for someone who is in that audience very close to everybody who was infected. Infectious. Dr. Mcmurrayheath, well who is not well himself. And i would want to know if hes less you address what you saw from the president last night, going to be okay. But theres no Contact Tracing from the white house event of the Supreme Court event ten days but no, no Contact Tracing. Ago. We dont want to show what this theres a team ready to do that virus does at a super spreader Contact Tracing and the without event because that would point reportedly from the new york out that the white house is times cut out the cdc and said responsible. Well only Contact Trace two responsible for getting people days before the president s positive diagnosis. Potentially deathly ill, at the in other words, you have this group that we know at the very least very ill. Lets just stop with the Supreme Court event haS White House. Contracted all of these cases as its all donald trump, willie. Look, a bunch of stooges who a super spreader event. Is there any defense, any wont say no. Who were dominated, you justification from where you sit for the white house not conducting a massive contact know . Mark meadows sat there being a cheerleader when he that would have been a good time to tracing operation off that actually say no. Supreme court event at the white say im not going to let the house . Well, whats been made president risk his own life and incredibly clear this week is risk the lives of secret service that you cannot stop the virus men and women and risk the lives by cutting out the science. Of people inside the white house. You have to be responsible and but the stooges all went along follow the scientific and donald trump went back to the white house in one of the most astounding, irresponsible guidelines. The cdc said its not enough to test. You have to wear ppe, at least wear masks and socially distance moments that any of us have seen from a politician in our and you have to limit mass lifetime. Gatherings and you have to trace imagine going through the experience of contracting covid contacts. I compare whats happening at knowing what that feels like. The rose garden this week with and not being humbled in some way or at least coming out and the call i got from taiwan last saying you know what, this is week. Showing that to date, despite actually something to be afraid their 21 Million People a of, lets be smart about how we reopen and how we operate this way. He cannot help himself but they have been fighting this even longer than we have in the attempt to project strength and u. S. If you do the right things, if again, look at the those images of him on the balcony. Did that look like strength to you follow the right scientific you, removing the mask and measures you can combat the trying to catch his breath every time he opened his mouth . Virus but cant do it on hope that wasnt strength. But what he said before he left the hospital, quote, feeling alone. Really good. Bob costa, how is the white dont be afraid of covid. Dont let it dominate your life. House explaining, how is the white house defending not we have developed under the performing a Contact Tracing Trump Administration some really great drugs and knowledge. I feel better than i did 20 operation off the Supreme Court years ago. And here now is part of the event where we know where all of the cases came from . Message the president recorded after without a mask turning and walking into the white house residence. As a reporter on the white house beat its about what President Trump is doing. I just left walter reed the white house is reacting to Medical Center and its really President Trump from chief of something very special. The doctors, the nurses, the staff mark meadows to lower level aides across the communicationpeople in the agen first responders, and i learned so much about coronavirus and one thing thats for certain. Dont let it dominate you. Dont be afraid of it. Inside the white house. Youre going to beat it. We have the best medical some of his aides wished he equipment, we have the best would stay at walter reed not only so he could recover, but medicines. All developed recently and recover to help the campaign youre going to beat it. Eventually at full speed. But its the president s desire i went, i didnt feel so good, to return to the campaign to go and i could have left two days back to battling Vice President ago. Biden that is shaping every two days ago i felt great, i decision being made. The president being his own adviser and thats something we said i felt peter than 20 years have seen since day one. Kasie . Ago. Dont let it dominate. Dont let it take over your lives. We are going back to work, well dr. Emanuel, to pick up on be out front as your leader i had to do that. That in terms of the president i knew theres danger to it, but going back to the campaign i had to do it. I stood out front, i led. Trail, what do we know about i realize his doctors have been nobody thats a leader would not incredibly not forth coming so do what i did and i know theres its a little hard to say, but can you just walk us through the progression of this disease, a risk. What we know about ehow it moves at this phase. Theres a danger but thats i mean, there are people i know okay. Im better, and maybe im who are struggling with the immune. Hey, donald, its the steroids talking right now. Effects of this weeks, months youre roided out right now. You cant stay away from later. Do we think its really possible cameras. That the president will be at i know that feeling. The kind of strength that one i once yelled at the neighbor on would need to be in the last 28 or so days of a president ial steroids once. Campaign at any point in those you say stupid things. Four weeks . No symptoms, they dont youre saying, roided out, maybe im immune from it. Hey, donald, donald, could you tell all of the roids that are rages through your own body that know they have covid. Thats obviously not the your own doctor said quote, hes president. Hes been fatigued, hes had a not out of the woods yet, would fever. Looks like hes short of breath. You let those roids know that . But some people do bounce back would you tell those roids that quickly. But i totally agree with you, youre not healthier than you kasie, which is 60 of people have been in 20 years. Maybe the roids are whispering dont bounce back, arent in your ear saying youre asymptomatic and there is a very stronger. No, youre actually still a long tail. The other thing i would say is you have to wonder about the president driving this, given frail, obese, over i mean, not just mildly obese, youre in the fact hes on dexamethasone and we know that there are some really bad shape. Welldocumented effects on physically. You have underlying conditions, perhaps an underlying heart mental clarity, aggression, condition. We dont know exactly what happened when you went to walter agitation, confusion. Reed last year but if you look at your medical records, calcium and covid itself has a sort of mental fog its been called. Deposit in your blood, i think, slow cognition, not feeling like is up. And youre not youre not youre actually tracking things and you wonder how much the well. So Jonathan Lemire, chris murphy president s judgment is being affected by the medication, by the disease and that actually is tweeted something that i know a lot of seniors in florida and arizona are thinking this a problem. And taking off the mask once he ascended the to the truman morning. When donald trump roided out as balcony is one of those he was said what he said. Questions its like wheres the chris murphy wrote this. Dont be afraid, says the guy judgment here . Is something going wrong . With a team of a dozen doctors, its quite worrisome. So, you know, you cant tell access to experimental we dont know, you know, how treatments that no one else good his lung function is. Gets. Literally no one in the world gets. What his viral load is. The three drugs at the same time how much antibody he has, things that he got. A fourroom hospital suite who that im sure they have tested lives in a house with top him for. But repeatedly dont reveal. They only reveal the good news and then say hipaa prevents me from revealing the bad doctors on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All of which he gets for free information. Thats baloney. And it leaves with us a picture because he refuses to pay taxes. Where we really dont know how sick he is and the actual dont be afraid, well, i would say since his own doctor says, effects of everything. Jonathan, hes not out of the well, heres one thing we do woods yet, perhaps if the president werent on all those steroids he might actually be thinking clearly and understand that he even still has a reason know and that is the doctors never once not once and you havent heard from trump himself in his crazy tweets anything to be worried. About hydroxychloroquine which because this is a deadly disease he and his Little Friends at fox thats killed well over 200,000 have been pushing throughout this entire pandemic as the people, despite all of the lies miracle cure for covid19. Not once. Hes been spewing since february. I was on the white house lawn so, doctor, im wondering when you heard dr. Conley talking when the Police Reported via about the president s condition, marine one from walter reed. Was it concerning in your mind we saw his walk across the lawn the answers, how limited they and it seemed fine, slow, and as were, how evasive they were . You noted he was clearly labored and is there a possibility that the president knowingly had with his breathing. Gasping for some air at times and this is a moment a moment that was both a surprise and yet covid when he went to the debate . Completely predictable. He took off his mask before well, its certainly a possibility and given the lack of information we have had, its saluting marine one. Very, very difficult to plot he didnt put his mask back on to deal with the staff about to whats happening in the president s care and illness. But the point you raised about film that video that you have been playing this morning. You certainly hit upon an important point here. Hydroxychloroquine is incredibly the president in that video said important. We at the biotech innovation maybe im immune. Well, right now, hes still corporation represent over a thousand companies and our contagious. He is still Walking Around companies is have started 720 shedding the virus and is now Research Development programs to exposing people in the white try to stop covid. House to it. Now, theyre converting a few over 181 programs just to rooms to office space. Develop different covid hes not expected to spend any vaccines. But all along that path, we have been following the science. Time soon in the oval office or when we get positive results we over in the west wing, but his move forward. When we get negative results we doctor said yesterday, dr. Stop. And despite that, the president conley, he wouldnt be restricting the president either. Earlier this year was saying hed have freedom of movement. We should focus on what the that hydroxychloroquine was still a success, despite the scientific results but the proof doctor didnt give out is in the pudding. When it came to his treatment it yesterday. He said that the president was was not used and it illustrates fever free for a few days, and how important it is to follow the scientific results and let he would not reveal the president s lung scans. Citing hipaa. Even though he freely offered the science stand on its own. Other pieces of medical all right. Information which raised the question why if he was perhaps doctors, thank you both for being on this morning. Only sharing the good news and not the bad. So there are still a lot of robert costa, thank you as well for your reporting. Uncertainty about the president s lungs. Still ahead on morning joe, john brennan says he became familiar with the challenges of dealing with a Health Crisis during the h1n1 theres also uncertainty about flu pandemic, but unlike the this. The doctor and the white house have steadfastly refused to note when the president s last negative test was. We know the first positive test was upon his return from Trump White House the Obama Administration handled things bedminster on thursday, but its differently. The former cia director will not clear when he was tested previously. How long perhaps was he join us next. And as we go to break, more positive . And exposing people to the from the New York Times series on the stories behind the coronavirus death count. Virus. Was he not tested thursday morning before going to bedminster or perhaps wednesday kalin dillard had an emergency morning before minnesota or tuesday before the debate. And that, jonathan, right csection after falling ill due there is irresponsible on the to do covid19. Doctors part. Americans deserve to know and the people who have been around the president including his she had a driveby baby shower for her daughter morgan in opponent, Vice President joe august and began to feel ill shortly after. Biden, and his family, they have two days later she was admitted all been near President Trump for the debate. To the hospital where she tested and when he first tested positive is a key question. This doctor was less than positive for the coronavirus, forcing an emergency csection where she had a healthy baby. Honest. He was the worst liar out there she was placed in the icu and i have ever seen, quite frankly. Dr. Mcshady. Thats saying a lot. Yeah, it is saying a lot died on august 17th having never met her second baby girl. Given this presidency. Well be right back. Csectionlg on Auto Insurance is. Ronny jackson i know. Pretty effective but he gets under President Trumps spell and he refuses to do his actual duty. Easy usaa. What youre made of, were made for. Where do these doctors go next after lying. After they have lied in one of the most important events because honestly, any honest doctor would say hes leaving the month today, hes not out of the woods yet. We disagree with his decision to leave but we will support him medically as best we can and then we will make sure that there is is a transition to the good can situation at the white house. We dont think he should be leaving the hospital situation and Walking Around without a mask. Its one thing if youre just dealing with a patient and the patients own privacy concerns, but when youre dealing with somebody that has spread this infection to some of the top leaders in america and the world and is now going back to the scene of that crime to do it again, a doctor has a responsibility to not lie to the American People and the world. Or even to the secret Service Agents who were who are moving that president around. Well, its one of the central questions of our time. What is the cost of crossing the president . If youre a republican in congress, i guess its youre worried about your reelection. We saw more of that last night, by the way. Senators celebrating with videos that they made. The president quote defeating covid, embarrassing. Oh, my gosh. But if youre a doctor, you dont have to get reelected. Whats the cost of telling the truth . Whats the cost of going out and sharing with the American People the president s medical condition specifically, what is the cost of that . If the president fires you, okay, you go back to your job with the respect of other doctors and of your colleagues. I dont know the answer to that question. When joe talks about the concerns that medical experts have not only for the physical health of the president but also his Mental Wellbeing because of and sweetie can coloryou just be. The drugs that he has been gentle with the pens. Okey. Okey. I know. Gentle. Gentle administered heres what were talking about. He has been described new projects means new project managers. Dexamethasone, which has a range you need to hire. Of side effects like aggression, i need indeed. Indeed you do. Agitation and anxiety. The moment you sponsor a job on indeed newsweek reports it has been you get a short list of quality candidates linked to rare reports of from our resume database so you can start hiring right away. Psychosis, delirium and claim your seventy five dollar credit, hallucinations. When you post your first job a psychiatrist at the mayo at indeed. Com home. Clinic noted that the patients should be monitored for the changes to the mood, sleeping and it can trigger any psychiatric side effects at any dose. Almost a third of the hospitalized covid19 patients describe rage, delirium and unresponsiveness. The New York Times reports according to the studys senior author, quote, after they were discharged only 32 of the patients with altered mental function were able to handle routine daily activities like cooking and paying bills, mika. Just a little background on the drug that the president has been on. Only 32 of the patients with altered mental functions from covid were able to do basic functions. Thats like our friend even after covid was wandering around the neighborhood for weeks in an altered state and even a good friend of mine had a 19yearold son who got covid and was so out of it that he couldnt remember what happened five minutes before. He would have dinner brought up to his room, hed eat the dinner and call downstairs, when you ongoing go to send the dinner . This was like this for two or three weeks. Again, this 19yearold. Yeah. He had an altered mental state. We have all seen well, these are adversaries but the president said dont let it dominate you. We have seen altered mental whose principal goal is to state and if the president were undermine the strength of the United States. I mean, russias primary goal is in an altered mental state right to weaken the United States. And when they are they now now, that would not be unusual. See a situation where the in fact, that would be actually president of the United States typical and that would be something is ill and somewhat that i believe the cabinet and incapacitated as a result of that, theres no question in my mind that they are going to look members of Congress Might want for opportunities to take advantage of that. To consider that if hes in an thats what adversaries are all altered mental state that he about. And theres why its extremely important to send a clear signal perhaps isnt the best person for the job right now. If you know what i mean. Lets bring in some medical to the world that the president and his staff are fully in experts. Infectious disease doctor at charge of the responsibilities not only to deal with domestic Johns Hopkins center for health security. Issues, but to deal with our and physician and fellow at the National Security issues. Those signals ought to be clear brookings institution, dr. And they ought to be sent now. Patel. Shes a former white house thats former secretary of Health Policy director under president obama and an msnbc defense, leon panetta speaking medical contributor. Dr. Patel, talk about the with Andrea Mitchell yesterday. Joining us now is john brennan, the author of the new book concerns you have right now if undaunted, my fight against you were treating donald trump as a patient and also the americas enemies at home and abroad. Concerns we should all have good morning. Good to have you with us. Well talk about the book in a for as americans with a man moment. But i want to just jump off what who is still, according to his secretary panetta was saying own doctor, fighting covid and there. And as someone who is around, not out of the woods yet. What concerns should we all someone who served in obama have . Its a great question, and administration during the h1n1 good morning. Any patient, not just the crisis obviously we didnt reach president , but any patient thats still in the early stages the level like that, but what of covid19 and given all the are your concerns when you have ea and with the a president who is sick about what the world is thinking . Well, good morning, willie. Video you showed and kind of the labored breathing, we definitely well, we all wish donald trump a know least of it. Speedy and full recovery because we know that this disease can i believe the American People deserve to see him resoundingly progress and it can decline at defeated next month. Any moment. So i would be incredibly but im concerned about things. Concerned and thats why i think you saw the pool reporters one, the side effects of the pressing for lab values, results of scans. Medication hes on, the we need to understand, you know, confusion and impulsiveness are is his viral load decreasing or some of the side effects and the is he in fact what we suspect shedding virus . And i just have to keep last thing we need is a donald pointing you talked about it before. Trump more impulsive and herman cain who attended a rally aggression than he has been. Theres a great preoccupation in the white house, as far as his health and the white house maskless and he was diagnosed and he said he was improving and it wasnt until 28 days after he staffs health. Was diagnosed that he died. Being able to respond to any you can imagine the trajectory crisis is questionable. Of a covid19 patient is incredibly tenuous, not only for third, i think a lot of our the ten days but it can persist foreign adversaries as panetta for weeks. Rightly pointed out are looking i think to your point, whats for signs that in fact they can even more concerning is the risk hes posing and you think about take advantage of the situation right now. Might russia, Vladimir Putin, decide to do something in just the transitions from walter belarus or china decide to do reed to marine one back to the residence. Something in hong kong or the each of those transitions South China Sea knowing that the increases probability, touching National Security hierarchy is in fact distracted as a result of this Health Crisis we are surfaces, we now know from his facing. So you laid out a couple of own cdc which he chooses not to listen to its airborne and its scenarios and that led to the next question. What are some places where not just six week that can protect you. I think mika said it, super russia or an adversary might spreader event at the supreme look to move . We know that russia is obviously court nomination, but a ongoing and was in 2016 and is potential for a series of super again looking to interfere in spreader events if he has even our election process. Limited staff. But those staff, joe, they go out. They interact with people. Does the sickness from the its not that theyre living in president change that dynamic at bubbles themselves and if he does choose to Campaign Even if he feels better, we have seen all . I think it might. Even though President Trump has intercepted a blind eye when it patients who shed virus as late comes to things around the world that donald trump has his own as 37 days after diagnosis, even agenda. But its not just Donald Trumps health. We see that in a number of longer in some cases. So as a physician, what senators who have been, you know, felled by this virus as questions would you have for dr. Sean conley . Well as other members of the white house staff. And so, again, what happens if if he comes to the microphone theres a terrorist attack abroad and there needs to be again today to update the country on the condition of the president of the United States, again a very quick and focused he shared bits and pieces of response and reaction to that. So im just concerned that as information or completely leon panetta said we need to ignored it or eluded other questions. What questions do you need to know today . A basic chronology. The way you would present this have very much in command if you were at a hospital National Security structure and if President Trump is being talking to another doctor. I would say when was the president positive or negative . Waylaid by the virus we are more vulnerable to being surprised by what was the lowest his oxygen the adversaries as they seek to level fell to . Take advantage of the situation. We know theyre talking about youve got a new piece up on 93, 94, but did it ever fall into the 80s . Nbc think where you write about the Obama Administration where was it in the high 80s . Wasnt why dexamethasone started you served in the handling of the h1n1 crisis. Early when he first required the Obama Administration handled supplemental oxygen which is standard of care. What is the expected finding on it differently than the donald Trump Administration handled the coronavirus pandemic. The lung xray . Why not say he has pneumonia on his chest e ray. What are the signs that you looked for in the Obama Administration in those early days that it was doing a good job handling this if you believe what is his c reactive level, it was . Well, barack obama like all which doesnt mean that much to your viewers but they tell us how severe the illness is and of the other president s i served what the trajectory might be. Thats all very important to i had tremendous respect and confidence in our medical think whether a person will get experts, our scientists and he really wanted us to understand into trouble seven days out, eight days out. What the information that they but we dont know any of that. I know theres hipaa concerns were providing us really but i think its important if indicated. As far as what policy choices we youre going to say you dont should make. So one of the things that he need to be afraid of this, this is a case that is not going to get severe. Insisted on is let the policy be driven by the data, by the expertise. Do not try to shape, you know, its a mild case, but we dont the perceptions of the american have enough granularity to public that will mislead them about the seriousness of it. Discuss about what his prognosis but, you know, the h1n1 pandemic is over the next several weeks. In 2009 was not nearly as serious as this covid19 virus first of all, a doctor texted me and said any patient would have to sign out of the hospital against medical advice and thus is. Would have to pay the hospital bill because insurance would but yet, there was still a very have refused to pay when you much complicated engineering leave against the advice. Challenge that we had to bring but having said that, there is together the scientists, the the question as to when he if state and local governments and the federal government and he is still shedding the virus. Again, barack obama was insistent we carry out our duties without any regard for we dont know because we dont giving him praise or pointing know when it started because the white house will not tell the American People who potentially to, you know, facts that really was exposed to the virus. Even the people at the debate. Were not factual at all. There was quite a distinction in but the scotus event where at least eight people so far and how he handled that crisis and counting have come down with the virus was clearly an event that how donald trump is unfortunately mishanding this should not been held, number one. Director brennan, given the one, because this is against cdc guidelines and number two, fact that the president seems because someone in fact rather unstable just by the acts that we saw unfold in the past potentially several people had coronavirus and were spreading it around at this event and now 24 hours, leaving the hospital, it appears hes leaving against they refuse to do contact doctors wishes although the doctors sort of passed over that tracing. Is there any scenario in which you would not do Contact Tracing carefully and said hes not out after an event like this with an of the woods and hes going to outcome like this and i just be in a safe situation. Wonder this may not be for a then we saw him Walking Around doctor, but i mean, any Legal Recourse if someone gets breathing all over people with no mask. Which seems to lead me to believe that hes exhibiting coronavirus and dies from coming to an event like this and theres no Contact Tracing to warn people. Extremely bad judgment right yeah, mika, thats youre now. If you read about the drugs that entirely correct that this is hes on, they do appear to have the kind of the ultimate case of some pretty significant side effects and i wonder is there Contact Tracing, not to mention any type of measure in place if the National Security the people around him feel that implications. We dont understand who was it or what series of events led to he is acting so erratic that people who became positive or who were present at that event. You dont want to assume that perhaps hes unfit to lead . There was anything nefarious, well, i agree with you that donald trump i think already but without Contact Tracing we dont understand kind of the extent of it. To your legal point, youre poor judgment is more impaired by the result of his medical right. Im not an attorney, but theres certainly precedent in other situation and the drugs hes on. The 25th amendment does allow diseases like tuberculosis and and its a legal basis for the Vice President and the majority other settings, its the very of the cabinet to assume for the reason we have the Public Health statutes that we do in the vice for the Vice President states and in the federal to assume the duties of the government. So theres an obligation to report these diseases and therefore, because we have to office of the presidency. But donald trump can contest that. So although the 25th amendment try to do what we can do to stop provides a basis, a legal basis the spread and try to stop the viruses you hear it in the for that, its unclear exactly scared white house staff, you know, even the ones that felt what constitutes a president s inability to discharge their like they have been learning duties and who actually makes that determination. And at this point, i dont think about this through the press and the media, what obligation do we have if they go home and to the Vice President and joes point, they have someone cabinet have any interest in in their family who is trying to seize power from him. But the longer that donald trump continues to exhibit i think susceptible, who is fighting cancer. This increasingl strange and, these are not trivial issues and i think projecting this kind of image of strength has actually done the opposite. You know, even bizarre behavior i think there is real questions its made people more scared. About whether or not we are being led by somebody who in yeah. I want to pick up on that. Fact is going to be undermined by his own medical condition, the doctors were frustrated when the drugs that hes on and the president took off the masks therefore our National Security and our domestic security could symbolically and they were furious he would say, dont be be at risk as a result of his i afraid as a national message. Dont be afraid, dont let it think abuse of, you know, quite dominate you. Frankly the duties of his office as a Public Health expert broadly, what did you think when if, in fact, he is unable to you heard the president say carry them out. I believe that he should turn over those duties to the vice dont be afraid . President or the Vice President what are the potential implications of that message . Or the cabinet should in fact we know theres half of the insist on the transfer. Country that doesnt were Jonathan Lemire . Director brennan, the living in a pandemic and doesnt president s illness of course take the common sense steps to comes just a month before make this virus easier to election day. And i wanted to get your assessment both on the potential control. Like wearing place coverings, for outside election not having mass gatherings. And the more that comes out the interference from a foreign harder it is going to be to control this virus. When you talk about the virus adversary who might be looking to take advantage of this not dominating you, the reason moment, but also get your take on what were seeing domestically with the president its dominating this country is because we still fail to have the testing, tracing and alleging without evidence there isolation capacity that all of could be widespread voter fraud us have been arguing about since january thats the only way that this virus doesnt dominate us and getting support from his is actually to do the actual allies including at times it work to get this under control. Which other countries have done would appear attorney general and we continue to still to fail barr who would add heft and credibility to the baseless do. Ten months after this virus has claims. What do you think . I think donald trump and people like william barr and been discovered. Doctors, thank you both very much for being on the show this others recognize that President Trump is likely to lose this election at the ballot box so i morning. Think theyll resort to any so great to have you on. Tactic possible to challenge the thank you very much. I hope youll come back. Outcome and to have a protracted you know, you look again at that battle in the courts. White house event and look at that will contest the victory of those people hugging each other. Joe biden at the polls. How can you not Contact Trace that . Talking in each others face. And as far as foreign again, these are people that interference is concerned, we know that the russians continue to refine their tactics as far as information operations. Obviously i mean, this is straight out of the dark ages. I mean, this is using the digital domain, i know youre happy about putting out the personas and trying to shape the attitudes your Supreme Court pick. Of everything that we supposedly have learned since and the views and the votes of the enlightenment, the age of american citizens. Reason, the denial of medicine, clearly, Vladimir Putin prefers that donald trump get the denial of science, the reelected. Denial of reason, the denial of donald trump has been a godsend to moscow, as far as the learning. And also, lets just take it confusion and the polarization from the worldly to the and the disunity of the United States, as well as Donald Trumps foreign policies. Spiritual. These are all very much playing just complete lack of respect into Vladimir Putins agenda. For others. Complete disregard of doing unto so i fully anticipate that in the coming 28 days or so that others what others would do to the russians are going to you. Risking the lives of not continue to push information, everybody around you there. Propaganda, out into that digital environment and using but risking the lives of your social media to again friends and love ones when you misrepresent the facts and try go home. There we had the secretary of health and Human Services to get donald trump reelected. Walking around hugging, shaking all right. Kasie . Director brennan, the sub hands, being maskless like a title of the book that you have out now is threats at home and jackass. Its really unbelievable. Abroad and one thing that stuck enough of that. Out to me was what you talked willie, you and i have something regarding science to worry about this morning. Its happened to us again. About with the meeting with top members of congress, with the gang of eight and particularly its happened to us again. I know where youre going. What Mitch Mcconnell said as you were trying to outline russian i know. We have been working on this for interference in the 2016 a decade. Election. Im just wondering if you can they came in, they took our elaborate on that a little bit stuff, told us they were doing a and also, do you think theres documentary on us and they did been any evolution in thinking from republicans at the highest levels of government on this question or is it still as it again. Headline there was no documentary. It was all a scam. Nobel prize in physics and im political as it was then . Look, kasie, you know, youre laughing because i cant believe we get duped all year. Right. In august and september 2016 i briefed the gang of eight. People get come get our stuff these are the senior most members of congress on what we every year. Nobel prize awarded to the knew and assessed about russian interference in the election and for the most part all of the members of the gang of eight including the republicans such scientists on the study of black holes. As Speaker Paul Ryan and senator how long have been studying the richard burr were very receptive and very concerned and worried about what the russians were universe . We dont do this for the doing. But there was some notable awards. Were in it for the science. Exceptions and Mitch Mcconnell was one of them. Were in it for the kids mostly. When i presented the information, the intelligence to yeah. But it is frustrating when him, he said that it sounds like again you and i invent the idea mr. Brennan that you and the Obama Administration are trying to prevent donald trump from of dropping mentos and watching getting elected. I took great offense to that because he was implying or saying that we were politicizing it explode and we do not receive the intelligence. The recognition. And so Mitch Mcconnell was this happens every year. Looking and receiving intelligence through this partisan lens. Partisan lens an okay, boys. It was a very, very chilling White House Press secretary meeting and i was appalled that Kayleigh Mcenany, big surprise, becomes the latest person in the senator mcconnell, who was the republican leader in the senate, president s orbit to test positive for coronavirus. Had that reaction to the interference by our principal i never saw that coming. Talking all over the foreign adversary russia in our election. Reporters without a mask, i do not believe that republicans have changed their breathing all over them. At least she was respectful views because they have just to the reporters. She was respectful in prostrated themselves in donald answering their questions truthfully. Not really. Trump and kowtowed to his every whim and continue to make what else . Plus, john b national apologies, not even apologies, excuses for his behavior. So i think the republicans, whether it be Mitch Mcconnell or security implications of trumps covid19 diagnosis and behavior. Lindsey graham or ron johnson and others, will go to any the New York Times is putting length possible to get donald faces and names to the death trump reelected this coming toll from coronavirus in a november. Series titled those we have lost. Jean robinson . Among them, adrian gomez who worked as an assistant Program Director at a childrens shelter john, we talked about how our in brownsville, texas. Adversaries might want to take the shelter took in advantage of the situation they unaccompanied migrant teenagers see had the white house right and children separated from now. I am curious about our allies. Their families at the border. His job was to make sure the how concerned must they be kids in his care were properly about, or are they, if you have housed and educated while they actual current knowledge, about were seeking asylum or looking to reunite with their families. What they see in the white adrians daughter said all he house, and are there any wanted to do was make a difference. He did. Connections, any roots of adrian died at the age of 52. Making lifes journey, just better. Behavior and failure to acknowledge that americas strength depends on those Close Relationships with countries around the world. I think during this period, they are even more concerned. Its heard by our foreign partners and allies as focusing exclusively in the United States and not trying to strengthen and build those relationships that are so critical to world order and security as well as to the strength of these individual countries and their ability to no withstand russian pressure or uh uh, no way chinese pressure or other types of things. So i do think that our partners come on, no and allies are very worried and no are looking, i think, longingly nnnnono at the coming election and only discover has no annual fee on any card. A question to willie and jonathan, who is more roided its a dark, lonely place. This is art inspired by real stories of people out . Living with bipolar depression. Sammy sosa, mcguire in 98 or emptiness. A hopeless struggle. Donald trump in 2020 . The lows of bipolar depression can disrupt your life Jonathan Lemire . Well go to you first. And be hard to manage. Well, id like to shift the latuda could make a real difference in your symptoms. Focus to the power display from the new york yankees last night. Aspirations, but a lot of home runs were hit and went a long now im feeling connected. Empowered. Latuda is not for everyone. Ill go mcguire with the forearms but id like to bring the focus back to the scrappy yankees team. Does america love this group . Is this what we needed right now . And guess what youll get here, a yankees astros alcs. Who couldnt root for the yankees against the astros . Isnt that great for the country . Like measles versus mumps. Thats as bad as it gets because it puts me in the horrific position in 2001 when i had to choose between the new york yankees or al qaeda and i chose the new york yankees. Thank you. In 2001. The only time ever i cheered for them. And they lost. So here you know what . I know how this ends. They they show they have showdown with the astros and im actually disturbed and concerned about the fact that our baseline of infections is still stuck at around 40,000 per lemi lemire, theyll lose again. But in 2001, you did not cheer day. Thats no place to be when for america. You did not cheer for the youre trying to get your arms around an epidemic and get it to yankees in 2001. A very low baseline as you get you chose al qaeda, just to into a situation where you are going to be indoors more than no. No. I will admit to that right now. Outdoors. Yes, in october and november of we have got to stop that trend 2001 living in new york city and get everything going down as even, the new york yankees were a country all together, working in the world series against the arizona diamondbacks. Together. I will very much say that i did dr. Anthony fauci continues not root for the new york yankees. To sound the alarm on the in fact, i watched the game 7 at countrys high rate of infection a watering hole, a game 7, watering hole in new york city. As one of those people infected with the highly contagious a friend of mine and i were there. The place was packed with yankee deadly disease just staged a fans. We were not rooting for them. Maskless political stunt Luis Gonzalez hits the bloop yesterday. Good morning, and welcome to morning joe. Tuesday, october 6th. Along with joe, willie and me, we have White House Reporter for single, the diamondbacks won. The Associated Press jonathan my friend and i screamed for lemire. All right. President trump is now back at hell and ran. Rooting for the diamondbacks . The white house, he is inside after spending three nights at walter reed Medical Center with coronavirus. It was a highly choreographed against the yankees. How does a guy see george w. Return last night. Bush throw the strike and root against the new york yankees . You could see the president again, in the shadows of 9 11 . Producing it himself at times. He walked out of the hospital around 6 30. He arrived back at the white house just after 7 00, walked its a sick, twisted mind and across the south lawn, up the in a new york city bar. Thats awful. Exterior stairs and on to the the young guys, the yankees, who truman balcony where he stepped off the train at grand immediately removed his mask and central with a suitcase and hailed a cab to the bronx, posed for photos. Started wheezing. Looked up out all of the tall the president gave a thumbs buildings this is what the up. He said he felt good. Country needs right now. Go yanks. After climbing the stairs you could see his breathing was labored. You could also see him waving to the photographer, giving the can i tell you whats great . Photographer orders to get pictures from behind him as well kasie d. C. Shes here. Lets bring in kasie hunt. As he was saluting to get all given the president s return to the opportunity shots. Just to make it more dangerous for her. The white house which most the white house says physical doctors would say would be access to the president will be against their wishes, against significantly limited, and that their best advice, how do you think i mean, there are some staff will wear appropriate ppe when near him. Republicans who are actually going along with the trump is wait. I am confused. Strong, you know, mantra. I thought, really i thought that but is this going to work this was nothing to worry about, especially republicans who are up for reelection dont let it dominate you . Because the president gave this outrageously stupid, outrageously reckless, yeah. Outrageously dangerous so forgive me, im still a i called her up behind him. Little bit stuck in the baseball yes, so he could get the conversation and i will say im not im also not a yankee fan beauty shot of him, droplets going out with the washington skyline behind him. By any stretch of the willie, i thought that donald imagination, but i find jonathan trump said there was nothing to worry about, that go on with lemires position to be as difficult as many of the your life. Republicans position when it why would they limit anything other than the fact that the comes to donald trump and thiS White House is a ghost town right now because this man has virus. The reality here is this is infected everybody inside the contrary to the message they white house . Have been trying to send because they all know that fighting the incredible. And then what were watching right there as he turns and virus is ultimately going to be walks inside without his mask, their own political solution. Greets whoever is inside the building, the residence right there, and then shoots a video. That said, there are theyre handling it a little bit he records a video because he differently this morning. Wanted the sun setting behind i think we have a little bit of him and the Washington Monument sound we can play to give you an and that lapd scape in which he idea of what were hearing about this. Lets watch. It shows what we have learned said dont be afraid. Tell that to the 211,424 about this virus. We have learned two things among others, but two things stand out families that are mourning in my mind. Someone. Dont be afraid. He said dont let it dominate number one, its very contagious you, as if that were a choice and number two, its not nearly for a coronavirus patient. And you could tell as he tried as lethal as the experts told us to project strength up there on it was going to be. If we have to go and vote, i that balcony he was labored in his breathing. He did not project strength up already told leadership ill go there. He projected ignorance by not in in a moon suit. Wearing his mask and he showed we think this is pretty to the world how serious this important. What we ought to do ill still disease is. Say it and ill get beat up in he could barely breathe while i was standing up there. The press for this. Lets get into what he said. We should have followed the i want to say really quickly, sweden model. Isolate the sick, quarantine willie, dont be afraid . Dont let it dominate you. Them, protect the vulnerable and allow the rest of society to carry on with life as carefully really . As possible. So this really all kind of you know, in my family there are three people very close to us who we love, very close to actually lines up with the kind us, that covid could be a death of all over the place conversation we were having about baseball because were sentence. Yeah. Talking about moon suits and could be a death sentence. Now, dont say that for personal other ways of dealing with this. I will say john cornyn seemed to reasons. I am afraid of covid. Have some actual tough words for its just like i am afraid of the president saying he was the sea, even though i have a boat. I am afraid of guns even though blindsided by the pandemic in an i own guns. Yes, im afraid of covid. Interview with the Houston Chronicle editorial board. But im also stuck on the image you dont have to be terrified of ron johnson in a moon suit because the reality is, the of covid. You dont have to stick your, you know, head under the bed, failure of dealing with this put us there. But its something to be afraid senator kennedy saying we have learned that its of. You should wear masks. And i know people, if i have contagious. Hello. You can go back to january if friends, good friends who you actually wanted to listen to werent able to say goodbye to their mother or their father scientists, made joe biden, read his oped, listen to people who the number on the screen. Or their grandparents because were left to work at the white house in some pandemic capacity of covid, because they died since the president got rid of these sad, lonely deaths, if the Pandemic Office and if you listen to the doctors, you would have known it was highly contagious. Actually, you know thats my experience, and im that statement was idiotic. You know who else knew it was younger than a lot of people who highly contagious . Are going to be voting in a the president. Month, less than a month, who he told bob woodward in late are voting right now, i mean, february how contagious it was. Oh, my lord. Thats i think thats it was airborne, it was everybodys experience. I think thats probably your experience. I know thats mikas experience. Dangerous. It was dangerous not only to we all know somebody who has had a loved one effected by this or elderly but to younger people as well. Kennedy, by the way, he went to died. And his age, willie, you know, oxford, i dont think hes an we have a neighbor, and he got idiot but hes playing the role of idiot saying its not as covid, and for a month after he lethal as we thought it was. Recovered from covid he was kind why dont you drive around of just wandering around. We had to guide him back over to louisiana and talk to all of the people who died. You cant afford the care that the president got. You know whats interesting, his place. Kasie, again, you know, forget again, it doesnt just impact you physically or kill you, but it impacts you mentally. About the health care. We are going to get to that study, too. Just a political malpractice of lets say ron johnson. But everything he said was so when ron johnson talks about reckless last night, and there voting in a moon suit, what were actually one or two really image comes to your mind . Because the image that comes to just, id say, stupid, but i my mind is Wisconsin Republicans think they are really bad people. One or two really bad people in the United States senate who forcing people out of ignorance and stupidity, just pure said, yeah, covid, there is not much to worry about, when they know its a lie and they know people are dying from this and cynicism, to vote for that they know more people are going to die from this. Supreme Court Position earlier these are the same liars, this year and getting trounced because of their stupidity. Willie, the president a liar who here you have ron johnson in the said that covid wasnt coming back in the fall. He said that in april even when state that President Trump is dr. Fauci said covid is coming losing by seven, eight, nine back in the fall, and the points in part because of his failure to react to covid and president said, no, its not johnson is again undermining i coming back in the fall. We will, we are in the fall. The president got it. He couldnt breathe last night think republicans in the suburbs when he got to the top of the stairs. He was wheezing last night. And even in rural areas. Among Senior Citizens, among and his own doctor said hes not women, among more highly out of the woods yet. Educated voters. This is just a nightmare for republican candidates. And so youre right. Not only in wisconsin, but he is spreading it to everybody across america. Yeah. That he forces to be close to it absolutely is, joe. And i will say ron johnson is a him. Last thing ill say, willie. Bit of a special case. I wouldnt i think his colleagues would probably agree this is very mccaffrey. With that assessment certainly in private. As compared to some others who poor mr. Trump. He is sick. Are perhaps more focused on the he is acting stupid. He is a danger to others. He is such a terrible example to goal that you point out, which is trying to keep the senate and americans. General mccaffrey says i have been an infantry leader in working all off the same playbook to try and make sure dangerous situations. We work to minimize risk until that that happens. But you know every day that we forced into action. Here is a guy that has how many wake up to another round of headlines, every day that we see the president , you know, yesterday it was him taking people has he already infected, off that mask when we all know hes infected with covid, willie . How many people is he going to showing the wrong example to infect now . How many more lives is this guy going to put in danger . Contradicting his Public Health he has endangered so many secret advisers and everything else that americans are hear they service members. Should be doing and demonstrating hes living by a and we wont know because different set of rules by all of they dont want to do contact us are living by and for those tracing from the scotus event where everybody was, about eight people with preexisting people, i dont know, i lost conditions who are vulnerable, i mean theyre being even more count how many people have strict than we are in not going walked away from that superspreader event for amy to gatherings, not eating inside in restaurants, not, you know, Coney Barrett with coronavirus and the white house refuses to spending time together. People are missing weddings and do Contact Tracing to find out who else may have been exposed, funerals and all of these other who else may have brought it life milestones and the president is having hundreds of his closest friends over to the rose garden and the white house home to their families. I have a family friend in that where theyre all getting sick audience, very close to everybody who was infected, who with covid while everybody else is not well himself. Is hoping the rates are low enough for their kids to go back to school. And i would want to know if he thats a nightmare scenario for is going to be okay. The republicans who do want to hold on to the senate. And the reality is theyre but, no, no Contact Tracing. We waouldnt want to show what theyre running even further this virus really does at a behind President Trump. They dont benefit from whatever superspreader event because that he gets, whatever bounce he gets would actually point out that the white house is responsible, out of, you know, staging these responsible for getting people theatrical events, the base of potentially deathly ill at the supporters who refuse to leave him, the Senate Republicans very least very ill. Dont have the same benefit of lets just stop with the white house. Its all donald trump, willie. That phenomenon and, you know, theyre running even farther and a bunch of stooges who behind the president. Every day like this is not a wont say no. Good one for them. Mark meadows sat there being its a political nightmare. A cheerleader when he should of course, we have been talking about the health care effects have that would have been a but politically also its a good time to actually resign, nightmare for republicans. Say im not going to let the i have been begging republicans president risk his own life and risk the lives of secret service for years to separate themselves men and women and risk the lives from donald trump. I knew they wouldnt do it for of people inside the white the right reasons, but i have house. But the stooges all went along, been warning them for years that and donald trump went back to it was going to be devastating to them. The white house in one of the i warned them in 2018 they most astounding, irresponsible needed to separate themselves. Just like i told republicans in moments that any of us have seen 2006 i wrote a column saying from a politician in our they needed to separate themselves from george w. Bush, lifetime. Imagine going through the experience of contracting covid, knowing what that feels like and that things were going to go south. Not being humbled in some way but this last week, its just and saying, you know what . This is actually something to be especially devastating. Yeah, you have ron johnson who afraid of. Lets be smart about how we reopen. Lets be smart about how we won in 2016, i think. Operate this way. He cannot help himself but you have kennedy who can say attempt to project strength. Whatever he wants but this and again look at those images of him on the balcony. This stupidity, this ignorance did that look like strength to you, removing the mask and or at least this feigned trying to catch his breath every ignorance by these senators and time he opened his mouth . By donald trump is having a what he said specifically devastating impact on the polling numbers of martha yesterday before he even left the hospital was, quote, this mcsally in arizona who is was in a tweet, feeling really good, dont be afraid of covid. Getting destroyed in maricopa dont let it dominate your life. County. One of the most solid republican counties there is. Getting destroyed among suburban we have toefld under the Trump Administration some really great drugs and knowledge. I feel better than i did 20 voters. Getting destroyed among women. Years ago. Here now is part of the message the president recorded after, without a mask, turning and getting destroyed among walking into the White House Former groups of republicans that they have held. Cory gardner the suburbs of residence. Denver, among women. I just left walter reed i mean, i could go through the entire list. Dical center and its really thom tillis in north carolina. Something very special. The doctors, the nurses, the you know, Susan Collins first responders, and i learned joe, can we talk about so much about coronavirus. Lindsey graham . Well, and Lindsey Graham as and one thing thats for well. Certain. Dont let it dominate you. And by the way, and lindsey is dont be afraid of it. Completely completely losing you are going to beat it. We have the best Medical Equipment. We have the best medicines. It. And against the back drop of all developed recently. Lindsey graham, kasie, let me and you are going to beat it. I went. Just say, theres a new cnn poll i didnt feel so good, and two days ago i could have left two that just dropped and i suspect days ago, two days ago i felt other polls will likely follow. Great, like better than i have taken completely after the in a long time i said better president s diagnosis and showing how reckless he was, most likely on the night of the than 20 years ago. Dont let it dominate. Dont let it take over your lives. Dont let that happen. Debate, moving forward. And a new cnn poll just out has we are the greatest country in the world. We are going back to work. We are going to be out front. As your leader i had to do that. Joe biden at 57 and donald trump at 41 . I knew there was danger. I stood out front front. I led. Nobody thats a leader would not its a 16point National Lead do what i did, and i know there and yes, its a national poll, is a risk. There is a danger. But no, it is not early and yes, but thats okay. And now im better and maybe im immune. I dont know. And we are going to pick it as a republican, former up with that inexplicable moment republican, i know in polling a from the president telling rising tide lifts all boats. Americans not to be scared of a so if youre looking at a highly contagious deadly pandemic. 16point National Lead, post that reaction is straight ahead on morning joe. Morning joe. Infection, this is having a devastating impact on all of these republican senators. They better save themselves and distance themselves as quickly from donald trump as they can. Yes. Because donald trump can no longer save them. 16 points down in this new cnn poll. Its a stunning number. I mean, joe, i think it may be too late. I bring up Lindsey Graham because he always had a problem with the trump base. He was friends with john mccain. He didnt really line up. He worked hard to make sure he didnt have a primary so what did he do . He absolutely embraced donald trump because it was his golfing go go go on a real vacation. Partner, started to talk about him on Television Like he was visit go rving. Com or your nearest rv dealer. The best thing ever. He was marching in lock step that we asked questions about what would john mccain think about what Lindsey Graham was doing. Well, now hes better off with the trump base but they still dont trust him and women in South Carolina are absolutely turning on him. I mean, thats why lindsey knowinits hard. Re is hard. Graham in conservative south eliminate who you are not first, carolina is possibly going to lose his general election and youre going to find yourself where you need to be. Campaign. Its probably not likely at this point, but it is possible. Which is a stunning statement. And its because of this back the race is never over. The journey has no port. The adventure never ends, because we are always on the way. And forth and this aggressive embrace of a president that the suburban women have completely rejected. Just looking through this poll, joe, that you cite with the 5741 spread. Its 21point spread among the seniors. Remember the nbc news wall street journal had the spread at 27 i think it was among seniors so hes totally collapsing among those 65 and older, President Trump. No doubt. Willie, why wouldnt he collapse among Senior Citizens . This guy told people not to worry about this disease, willie, when i can tell you in florida there is not a senior who has i mean, Senior Communities that havent been impacted terribly by this disease. That senior number, willie, how that . E win florida and arizo he doesnt, Jonathan Lemire, does he . When he goes out last night and says dont be afraid of the disease, those seniors and most other people in america said, really . What about my neighbor, someone in my family. This is something to take seriously. There was talk among the Campaign Officials there was some talk about the president s ive been involved in. Communications in the media Campaign Officials, mika, sorry, that they thought this moment when the president contracted for 45 years. Ive been taking prevagen on a regular basis for at least eight years. The coronavirus and of course would be hospitalized they were for me, the greatest benefit over the years has been hoping he they should know that prevagen seems to help me recall things better, of course, moderate his and also think more clearly. And i enthusiastically recommend prevagen. Tone somewhat. Not that he would abandon the idea look, the nation is turning it has helped me an awful lot. The tide on this. When you said one thing for prevagen. Healthier brain. Better life. Eight months on the coronavirus and you cant stop on a dime and go the other direction, but they were hoping there was more we live with at t and we are well past the honeocupado tom. At t, whats this i hear about you acknowledgment of what people have gone through and we heard advertising a 100 Fiber Network . None of that last night. It was about dominating the only like a fraction of my customers can get that. Virus, dont be afraid of it, which doesnt speak to the thats it . . You have such a glass halfempty attitude. Reality of the seniors who are the glass is more than halfempty you need to relax tom. The most Vulnerable Group it to and who make up huge parts of oh tom, you need a little tom time. The population in Battle Ground a little tt. States like arizona and florida. Stop living with at t. Xfinity delivers gig speeds to more homes than anyone. What is a president who throughout his entire stay at walter reed this should be said, throughout his entire stay at walter reed uttered not a word for any other coronavirus patient but himself. He did not better understood what people were going through and he did not express sympathy for those who have been sick or lost a loved one. It was about his own focus was on himself and getting out of there as quickly as possible. And now, trying to return to some sort of normal life. It cant be underscored enough. He had three days of the best medical care available to any person on the planet with a lot of experimental medication you or i could not get and his own coronavirus, and one thing thats for certain, dont let it doctor said dr. Conley said he would not breathe easy about the president s condition until dominate you. Dont be afraid of it. Next monday. Thats another week, basically. Hey, donald hes far from out of the woods oh, my god. Its the steroids talking, right now and we know that the virus has the ups and downs and donald. Hey, you are roided out right theres a possibility he could take a downturn in the coming now. I know you cant stay away from cameras. Days and thats something that you probably should. Makes the white house officials mika knows that. And aides nervous as hes potentially others to the virus. I yelled at the neighbor once on steroids. You get roided out, you say and yet, not moderating his tone really stupid things. Whatsoever to show that he yeah. Now, listen, you are saying understands the suffering so roided out that you are, like, i Many Americans have gone through and its exactly that, that same dont know, maybe im immune from it. Tone during the spring and hey, donald, could you tell all summer, when he started to lose support of seniors something his the roads thids raging through aides feel may accelerate now. Body your doctor said, quote, he as you can see in the video is not out of the woods. There, its just interesting the president always a tv producer, would you let the roids know always looking for the moment, hes directing his photograph tore come up the stairs to get that . You are not healthier than 20 get behind him. Years. Maybe the roids are saying you and she was at times six feet, maybe less awhy from him. Are stronger. But see he had her come up the stairs to get the shot of him, you know, facing marine one and you are still a frail, obese, overweight not just mildly obese, youre in really bad to get the shot of him saluting. He was coordinating that and shape. Physically. Producing that so he could have morbid. You have underlying these i dont know what conditions, perhaps an pictures. Underlying heart condition. I dont know what this looks we dont know exactly what happened when you went to walter like. Just downright crazy at this reed last year, but if you look point. But thats what he was doing at your medical records, calcium last night to send some sort of deposit in your blood, i think, message to america. Also with us the reporter is up. From the Washington Post and youre not well. Eugene scott. And Jonathan Lemire, chris good to have you on board. So, mark, looking ahead to the murphy tweeted something that i campaign, i know that joe biden know a lot of seniors in florida and arizona are thinking this has pulled back on attack ads and has tried to be as gracious morning when donald trump roided as possible, but i dont see out as he was, said what he President Trump, you know, said. Chris murphy wrote this. Shrinking away and being quiet dont be afraid, says the guy with a team of a dozen doctors, now that hes back in the white house. I have a feeling the campaign access to experimental treatments that no one else may be back full on and gets. Literally no one in the world hes roided up and ready to go. Well, i mean, well see. Gets, the three drugs at the same time that he got. Well see how he feels. We know i mean, the virus a fourroom hospital suite, who goes up and down a lot. Lives in a house with top i mean, the course of this thing doctors on site 24 hours a day, is very, very unpredictable. Maybe he was having an up moment. Seven days a week. Maybe he was in a particularly, you know, feel strong state all of which he gets for free where he could actually go do because he refuses to pay that photoop but one thing we have learned over and over again through this is that, you know, humility is the way to go. You shouldnt i mean, theres not out of the woods yet, perhaps if the president werent an epidemic of famous last words on all those steroids, he might when you walk around saying actually be thinking clearly, maybe im immune or i feel 20 understand that he even still years younger or dont let it has a reason to be worried dominate you. I mean, that i mean, thats the first lesson in how you because this is a deadly disease should not sort of assume that thats killed well over 200,000 you are going to prevail here given that the bigger forces at people, despite all the lies he has been spewing since february. Work, for instance, fate, are joe, i was on the white house going to ultimately control both lawn last night when the president returned from walter your health and the course of these stories. Go ahead, mika, sorry. Reed. I saw his walk across the lawn, which seemed fine, if slow, and i just wonder, joe, youre a lawyer and maybe the president he toppstopped and waved to cam. After he was up the stairs and is immune from everything, clearly labored with his breathing, gasping for air at because he said am i immune now . Times. This is a moment, a moment that is he legally immune . Was both a surprise and yet what if the secret service men and women who got exposed to the deadly coronavirus, what if completely predictable. He took off his mask before saluting marine one. He didnt on someone gets sick and dies . I dont want this to happen, i when he went back inside with the staff that was about to vid. Wish for his health but hes pushing all of this against the advice of the professionals in you hitpon upon an important po. His government. The president said maybe im right. Against the advice of immune. Right now he is still scientists. At some point isnt this man contagious. He is still Walking Around shedding the virus and is now exposing people in the white house to it. Now, they are converting a few slaughter . Rooms in the residence to office if you purposely put people in a position that you send a deadly space. He is not expected to spend any virus their way, what is that . Well, thats a serious time in the oval office. Dr. Conley said he wouldnt be question. Restricting the president. And i am a lawyer in much the the president would have freedom of movement. Its also key, we should focus in on what the doctor isndidnt same way that lionel hites is a say. He said that the president had been fever free for a few days, lawyer on the simpsons. However the steroid he is on can knock down fevers. You look at leeb avits show and he would not reveal the president s lung scans, citing hippa, even though he freely its like a shot set up for the offered other pieces of medical information, which raised the room raiders up in the texas question why, if he was perhaps only sharing the good news and book suppository. Not the bad. So there is a lot of uncertainty who could pull that off other about the president s lungs. There is as uncertainty this. Than leibovitz. You should get a 9. 8 for that. So lets talk about how surreal they have refused to note when the president s last negative it is. What this president is doing and test was. Theres always the backdrop. I saw a great a great insight we know his first positive test was upon his return from bedminster on thursday. But its not clear when he was tested previously. By dave weigel who said all of how long perhaps was he positive and exposing people to the the people who said for four virus . Was he not tested thursday years, nothing matters. Morning before going to theres not an impact to Donald Trumps horrible behavior, he bedminster . Perhaps it was before minnesota never pays for it. Ignores everything that were or tuesday before the debate. Seeing in every single poll. Coming up, we are not getting straight answers from the he has paid for what he did in president s doctors. The 2017 elections and the 2018 so well bring in a pair of our own, two medical experts weigh elections and the governors in on Donald Trumps condition. Races in 2019. Thats next on morning joe. Din and theres this new cnn poll, thats next on morning joe. Your journey requires liberty mutual. 57 of americans support biden. 41 support donald trump. And seniors a group that the president did well with four years ago, seniors, the support is bleeding so quickly that theres no doubt that arizona and florida are suddenly endangered for the president. Yeah, the notion of nothing matters, speaking purely political i always thought was they customize your Car Insurance so you only pay for what you need. Misguided from the start. Wow. That will save me lots of money. The Republican Base will still support him 95 , ignoring the this games boring. Fact that the Republican Base is only pay for what you need. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. A lot smaller than four years ago when he was elected and the number of republicans in the house is much smaller and like there was a statistic about half of the Republican House is either retired or defeated since donald trump came. In reflected in the polls were seeing now and in the last seven or eight months. Theres a huge price to pay politically but after a while you have to look at just the karma of it all and look at the fact that hes walking into the white house thats staffed by, you know, dozens of support people. Housekeepers, support staff, chefs, who may be much older, maybe africanamerican, riskier populations to the coronavirus that we have seen. If im walking there, if my relative is working there and you see the president who is extremely infectious at this point taking off his mask and walking in, what are you supposed to think . American voters can see this and they actually do have a level of concern and certainly empathy for anyone who will come in contact with this beyond the show thats so focused on the president himself and hes trying to choreograph. We talked to two doctors who seemed as shocked as the rest of the country when the president said dont be afraid of it, dont let it dominate you when talking about the coronavirus. He says youre going to beat it, we have the best Medical Equipment. We have the best medicines and youre writing this morning about what exactly what Medical Equipment and medicines he no dad, its a video call. Received. You got to move the phone in front of you like. Easy for him to say, when he like its a mirror, dad. You know . Goes to one of the premiere alright, okay. Hows that . Hospitals in the world, walter reed, and receives that level of is that how you hold a mirror . Care that only the most powerful man in the world could receive [ding] power e trade gives you an awardwinning mobile app and for him to come out with no humility at all, dont be afraid with powerful, easytouse tools of it. I went through it for three and interactive charts to give you an edge, days, its not so bad. 24 7 support when you need it the most plus 0 commissions the president isnt afraid because the president has the best Medical Equipment and the for online u. S. Listed stocks. Best medical care and the best dont get mad. Get e trade access to medication thats not even made available to the and start trading today. Public that actually does have insurance. Not even acknowledging how Many Americans dont have insurance. And one of the things that this whole incident has revealed especially given that the Supreme Court is about to take up the Trump Administrations challenges to obamacare in the next few weeks is just how different different people in this country receive medical care. And we know according to Pew Research Center that health care is the number two issue that voters are considering as they head into the poll and attacking the white house to even service and support workers is reminding so Many Americans that they probably want to back an administration that backs and supports Getting Health Care to all people, so that they all can recover from coronavirus and not be among one of the 200,000 who have lost their lives in the last six months because of the operations and the choices that have been made from thiS White House. All right. Eugene scott and mark leibovich, thank you both for being on. We want to go through the news. President trump is back at the white house after spending three nights at walter reed medical experts Infectious Disease doctor and senior scholar at Johns Hopkins center for Health Center with coronavirus. It was a highly choreographed security, and physician and fellow at the brookings return. He arrived back at the white institution, dr. Pa kel, a house just after 7 00. Walked across the south lawn, up former white house Health Policy the exterior stairs and on to director under president obama and an msnbc director. The truman balcony where he dr. Patel, talk about the immediately removed the mask and concerns you have right now if posed for photos. The president gave a thumbs up you were treating donald trump as a patient and also the and said he felt good but after concerns we should all have as climbing the stairs you can see he was pretty winded. The white house says physical access to the president will be americans with a man who is significantly limited and that still, according to his own the staff will wear appropriate doctor, fighting covid and not ppe when near him. Out of the woods yet. But willie, of course, when he what concerns should we all have . Yeah, joe, its a great went into the portico there were people around with him with just question. Good morning. Any patient, not just the masks on, but no ppe, but okay. President , but any patient he turned around without a thats still in the early stages mask and shot a video and then of covid19 and given all the he tweeted this. Feeling really good. Treatments he has received, we dont be afraid of covid. Have to believe that, and with dont let it dominate your life. The video you showed and kind of we have developed under the the labored breathing, we Trump Administration some really definitely know he is not out of grad great drugs and knowledge, the woods is the least of it. We know that this disease can i feel better than i did 20 years ago. Here is part of that message the progress and it can decline at president recorded after waving any moment. From the balcony without the so i would be incredibly mask, turning around and immediately having a camera crew concerned, and thats why i think you saw the pool reporters pressing for lab values, results so he could make this video. Of scans. I just left walter reed we need to understand, you know, Medical Center and its really is his viral load decreasing or something very special. The doctors, the nurses, the is he in fact what we suspect shedding virus. And i have to keep pointing, you first responders, and i learned talked about it before, herman so much about coronavirus and one thing thats for certain. Cain, who attended a rally dont let it dominate you. Maskless and was diagnosed and dont be afraid of it. Said he was improving. Youre going to beat it. It wasnt until 28 days after he we have the best medical was diagnosed that he died. Equipment, we have the best so you imagine the trajectory of medicines. All developed recently. And youre going to beat it. A covid19 patient is incredibly tenuous, not just for the ten i went, i didnt feel so good days, joe, but it can persist and two days ago, i could have for weeks. And then i think, to your point, left two days ago. Whats even more concerning is the risk he is posing. I felt better and i said i felt think about just the transitions from walter reed to marine one, better than 20 years ago. Back to the residence. Dont let it dominate, dont let each of those transitions it take over your lives. Were the greatest country in increases probability, touching the world, were going back, were going back to work and surfaces. We know from his own cdc, which well be out front. As a leader i had to do that i he chooses not to listen to, that this is airborne and that knew theres a danger to it. Its not just six feet that can protect you. So there is an incredible risk, i think mika said it best, you i led. Nobody thats a leader would not do what i did. I know theres a risk, a danger, know, superspreader event at the Supreme Court nomination, but a but thats okay. And now im better. Potential for a series of superspreader events if he has and maybe im immune, i dont even limited staff, but those know. Youre not immune. Well, hes immune to staff, joe, they go out. They interact with people. Its not that they are living in something. In fact, the i think bubbles themselves, and if he youre roided out. Youre not immune. Chooses to campaign, even if he in fact, your own doctor says youre not out of the woods yet. Feels better, we have seen patients who shed virus as late as 37 days after diagnosis, even herman cain actually died three, longer in some cases. Four weeks after he first got covid. He went to your tulsa event. Doctor, as a physician, what yeah. And you you have not beaten questions would you have for dr. This. Sean conley if he comes it a microphone today to update the country on the condition of the president of the United States, he shared bits and pieces of its too early to tell. Information but completely and you say that leaders do what ignored it or eluded other questions. You do. They get out front. What do you need to know from you endangered so many people in the white house physician today . Your inner circle. A basic chronology, the way you would present this at a there are so many people right hospital talking to another now who are very sick because of doctor. I would say when was the you. People that helped you. You endangered the lives of your president positive, when was he negative, when did his symptoms start . Secret Service Agents. What was the lowest the oxygen you have endangered the lives of people who work for you at the level fell to. Did it ever fall into the 80s . White house by extension. Youre endangering the lives of we heard never the low 80s, but was it in the high 80s. Why wasnt dexamethasone started their loved ones that they have early when he required to go home to at the end of the supplemental oxygen which is day. I have read a lot of books on standard of care. I want to know his chest xrays, leadership. Not one of them suggests that a leader go out front and take what is the expected finding . The expected finding to me is risks that endangered the lives pneumonia. Then i want to know what his blood work is, what is his of people around them for their own selfish reasons. Thats not leadership. Lymphosite count, all of these thats not. Things which probably dont mean that much to viewers, but how thats recklessness. And thats why americans are turning away in what may end up severe his illness is and what the trajectory might be. Being in record numbers right thats important to understand whether a person will get into now, but you look at a poll out this morning a cnn poll trouble seven days out, eight days out. We dont know any of that. Showing that joe biden now ahead i know there are hippa concerns. Its important to you are going to say you dont need to be of donald trump, post infection. 57 to 41 , and its really its afraid of this this truly is a case thats not going to get not hard to figure out why, severe. Mika. Because this is a president who all along has lied to the its clearly not a mild case. American people about covid. It in the moderate level. Hes denied the reality to the we dont have enough to speak American People about covid. About the president s prognosis in the next couple of weeks. About what they have seen in their own lives. Coming up, Pete Buttigieg is about what their doctors have standing by. He joins us next on morning told them. Joe. Like what my doctor told me about my diabetic son. What was safe and what was not my safe. What the doctor told us about your mom and how we should take extra care to protect your mother. Because shes obviously in a risk category. You know, its one thing i have said it all year. Keep that number up, keep that number up because that number the 57 to 41 underlines what we have been saying since march. Donald trump can lie about Robert Mueller as he did, about keeping your oysters growing how he obstructed justice as he while keeping your business growing and the supporters did. Has you swamped. he can lie about how he and the campaign were reckless in their you need to hire i need indeed dealings with russia and trying indeed you do. The moment you sponsor a job on indeed to call that a russia hoax when theres no hoax there. You get a shortlist of quality candidates the history will show that and from a resume data base the Senate Republicans have so you can start hiring right away. Shown that. They can lie about all that. Donald trump can lie about claim your seventyfivedollar credit when you post your first job at indeed. Com promo trying to get a foreign leader blackmailing a foreign leader, he can lie about that all he wants and look, americans they go about their lives. You know, my 401 k looks good. The economy looks good. I dont Pay Attention to the news that much but they cant lie about something that kills their friends, it kills their loved ones, it endangers their beautiful. But when i started cobra kai, children and their grandparents the lack of control over my business and their parents and their made me a little intense. Friends that endanger the people but now i practice a different philosophy. They love and care for the most. When you lie about that, that quickbooks helps me get paid, hurts you in the polls. Manage cash flow, and run payroll. When americans can see for five and now im back on top. With koala kai. Days straight how reckless you treat those around you who work for you, thats not leadership. Hey more mercy. Save over 30 hours a month with intuit quickbooks. The easy way to a happier business. That is just political each febreze car vent clip negligence and thats why mika in that poll joe bidens ahead gives you up to 30 days of fresh air. Right now. So, you can have open window freshness. 57 to 41 . Even with all the windows up. And donald trump is getting enjoy fresh, any time, with febreze. Trounced among Senior Citizens who know the truth. Really quickly, the video he and the veterans that never quit on their team. When being a fan gets tough, and stretching your budget gets even tougher. Made by endangering the lives. Our agents put in the time and legwork for you, behind the camera, its for your. So saving on Auto Insurance is easy. Kids, they can get the best health care and cocktails like you that are still in because saving a little extra goes a long way. Experimental. In the study phase. Usaa. What youre made of, were made for. You know, you shouldnt have shared a that with the world because that video doesnt apply to them. It applies to you and quite whenyou push the limits. Fine what a truck can be, frankly, as you continue and say you win most people wont have you defy convention. The health care that you have access to as president. You turn every ask into an answer. Well, nobody will, actually. In fact, nobody will. Because those who set the standard, reserve the right to raise it. So thats what i think about the ram rebel, ram power wagon, that. The a. P. s Jonathan Lemire and the allnew ram 1500 trx. And the host of way too early, why more people are switching to ram than ever before. Kasie hunt is with us. Joining the conversation, associate editor of the the power has shifted. Washington post and msnbc political analyst Eugene Robinson and political reporter for the Washington Post and political analyst robert costa, the moderator of Washington Week on pbs. Joe, another thing. I thought that video was just beyond insulting, but i also feel that seniors in america especially people who know someone who has died of covid or is fearing dying from covid him or herself thats a video that is very alienating and invalidating. Yeah, it is. Because his words dont apply to them. In fact, if they follow him, they might die. Well, thats why the numbers are the way they are, because his words, his actions, they dont follow what anybody has done when they have gotten covid. So many people had to say goodbye to their parents on the telephone as their loved ones who gave their lives to raising their children, to making this country a better country, many of them who fought in world war ii, who fought in korea, fought in vietnam, died alone in a hospital bed. These veterans, these nurses, totally misquoted in the media on a statement about the fall these doctors, these firemen, these Police Officers died alone season and the virus. Over 200,000 of them because totally misquoted. Their families couldnt come close to them. You have the president running you were accurately quoted . Im accurately quote fd in around in his car waving at people while hes shedding, the Washington Post. What dr. Redfield was asking while hes sick. For, just like we ask for every doctors still saying hes not out of the woods which means he american, to follow the still has covid. Guidelines. Please add to that guidelines he still could have a bad impact on not only on those around getting your flu shot and making sure you are protected. Him, but also himself. So yeah, its very reckless and there is a chance that covid will not come back . This plays out in the numbers no we dont know doubt about it. Its a very small confined bob costa though, brings your reporting about the bizarre area that we put out. Well, the great thing is we will be able to find it earlier events of the past 24 hours. The situation inside the white this time. It might not come back at house and what they expect in all. It may not come back at all. The coming days. Joe, whats interesting right he is talking about a worstcase scenario where you have a big flu and some corona, but its now is that this is not just a white house story. Possible, its also possible it doesnt come back at all. In todays Washington Post i do a deep report on the we will have coronavirus in republican party. The fall. We have senator ron johnson i am convinced of that. Yesterday telling a radio show host that this ghoel whole there will be coronavirus in the fall. Its unbelievable. Donald trump repeatedly going covid19 pandemic is a quote unjustifiable hysteria. You have senator grassley who against what all of medical experts were saying. Has been in contact with mike it was going to come back in the lee, the senator whos also fall. He kept lying to the american contracted coronavirus like people knowing it would. Senator johnson deciding not to in fact, it never went away. Get tested. It didnt go away in aim and he you have republicans across the got it in the fall. Party even though their nominee, well, its the fall now, five President Trump, the Campaign Manager bill stepian, the party months after that briefing and chairwoman ronna mcdannel and President Trump yesterday including Kayleigh Mcenany at returned to the white house the white house have contracted infected with coronavirus and the virus. Struggling to breathe. This is a party thats going he is now apparently going back full steam ahead in echoing to his talking points from the President Trump at every turn and that includes the virus and spring. This morning tweeting, flu season is coming up. How they handle the pandemic. Many people every year, it will have a cost potentially sometimes over 100,000, and for the president but for the entire party that behind him is despite the vaccine, die from the flu. In lockstep. Are we going to close down our and gene robinson, you might expect out of this humility for country . No, we have learned to live with the president , forgive me for it, just like were learning to putting the two words in the same sentence, with this live with covid in most president , but you might expect from a person lets just say who populations far less lethal. Finally after downplaying and we remind people of what the president said to bob woodward telling bob woodward he wanted on february 7th about the virus. To downplay this, experiencing for himself might say, i get it it goes through air, bob. Now, he said it, he says i get thats always tougher than the touch. You know, the touch you dont have to touchthings, right. It now and takes off his mask and spreads it back into the but the air, you just breathe the air. White house. Not surprising, i guess. Thats how its passed. And so thats a very tricky one. But also as a political matter, thats a very delicate one. People want him to take this its also more deadly than your, seriously and he goes out again last night and shows that hes you know, your even your not taking it seriously. He says dont be afraid of it. Strenuous flus. This is more deadly. Live your lives. This is 5 you know, this is dont let it dominate you is the way he put it. 5 versus 1 and less than 1 , which is a stunning thing for a family one of the 211,000 you know. So this is deadly stuff. This is deadly stuff. Families to hear that perhaps their loved one let it dominate donald trump admitted. Them. Deadlier than the flu. Are you surprised, can we be five times deadlier than the flu surprised anymore at the way that the president conducted donald trump told bob woodward himself even after contracting in february. Willie, he lied in the spring. It . He lied in the summer. Well, we can still be he is lying in the fall. He lied every step of the surprised, willie, we really way. Lying this morning while his doctors say he is still not out can. Because youd expect a of the woods yesterday with the coronavirus. President , any politician and, remember, again herman cain died weeks, several weeks after frankly, any human being in that he was first infected with situation to express at least a word of concern and sympathy for covid. So the idea that this president is acting like he is immune from a deadly disease he still has is all of the other people who have sheer insanity and the voters covid at this moment who are know it. Thats why he is getting crushed suffering from covid. The 30,000 americans who are in the poms. I always wanted to play it hospitalized with covid right down. Another quote it that the president gave to bob woodward. Now. The families of the 210,000, thats what he is doing here. Now we have him on tape showing 211,000 who have died. You would expect to hear some he understands how deadly and how serious this disease is. Now he is trying to tweet this after you hear okay, i get it. You would expect to hear, some morning to downplay it. By the way, this is the exact same argument he was making in measure of sympathy and empathy early march. For those people and you heard he sent out a nearly identifyca tweet. He said, well, we have the flu and it kills a bunch of people not one word. Not one single word. Every year and we dont shut it was all about donald trump. Down our society. He is saying that today in early and so can we be surprised, at that moment at the white house october, seven months later after 211,000 people have died yesterday evening coming back, you know, walking up the stairs and then having to gasp for and peoples a lives have been breath and then striking the forever changed and kids arent sort of up there was back to school. Its outrageous. And he is sitting here with coronavirus and we all have the knowledge that he knows how serious it is because of the woodward tapes. You put all that together, its just another stunning tweet from this president. But we know he is making stuff up. We know he is seriously ill. We know now, maybe to the extent we didnt know in march when he was trying to make this case, how deadly serious covid19 is. Well, willie, as weve talked about in terms of other issues that might have been shocking, you know, getting dirt on a political rival from a foreign country, the list goes on, that type of thing didnt am impact working americans daytoday lives, but covid19 does. It has killed 211,424 people so far. Thats the count that we know about. Heres what trump voters, Trump Supporters are seeing now. That trump said this virus would go away. The president now has coronavirus himself. Top members of hiS White House has the coronavirus. This president has held superspreader events across the country for months now, and every city he goes to, two weeks later they get a pop in coronavirus cases when he held the tulsa event he squished people together, including herman cain, maskless in the audience. We dont know where herman cain got it, but he died from it, okay . And now he is known as the president who held a superspreader event at hiS White House, and at least eight people are now infected with the virus. Thats where trump voters stand with their truth. Thats one thing they can understand because that virus can come knocking at their door, too, and they know it. Nbcs kasie hunt is still with us. Back by popular demand, author and nbc news president ial historian laws, and Jonathan Alter out with a knew biography of former president jimmy carter. Good to have you back with us. Michael, you tweeted about the spectacle. It seems borrowed from apocalypse last night. You said in america our president s have generally avoided strong man balcony scenes. Thats for other countries with authoritarian leaders. Last night take your choice of what strong man he was trying to emulate, but it was straight out of an Eastern European, a very bad, may i say really painful. Movie about an Eastern European autocrat. Well, they say the first time is tragedy, the second time is for us. So probably last night was that. It resembled authoritarian leaders of the past and to some extent of the president. As i also tweeted it resem bld a three stooges film that came out 80 years this year with the three stooges posed as various forms of dictators and larry, larry fein, one of the three stooges, holding up a sign saying applause. We didnt see that last night. Yeah. And jonathan, were showing polls this morning that actually do prove that there are consequences. Its so easy for americans to become disgusted and say, gee, nothing matters with this guy. May not. It matters with seniors. It matters with voters. It matters that in a new poll out this morning, not really that different than an nbc news wall street journal poll that came out this weekend. Joe biden crushing donald trump by 16 points. 57 to 41 . We just usually dont see numbers like this in modern american politics when it comes to president ial races. Thats right. And the turnaround, joe, is just extraordinary. With seniors in particular, suburban women, both groups voted overwhelmingly for donald trump in 2016, and this year they have been, you know, running away from that, from him as fast as they can and going to joe biden. So trump is in deep political trouble, and on the coronavirus, obviously, but its not just because hes been negligent on the virus. He has gone from that to actually being a Public Health menace. So i think people are now getting the message that he is actually spreading this disease himself at that fundraiser in new jersey, and now in his own white house. And if he cant protect his own white house, cant protect his own staff, how can he protect the American People . Thats the bigger message that comes through. Lets talk about his very best. Your book on jimmy carter. Again, we have had conversations, i have had conversations with Foreign Policy experts over the past several years, and weve actually marveled that the further we move into history, c parallels between jimmy carter and harry truman, which is something that scoffed at ten y ago. Truman who left with 22 approval ratings, the greater his impact was. Here you look at jimmy carter. Jimmy carter had two achievements, Foreign Policy achievements, normalization of relations with china in 1979 that forever changed this world. Forever changed everything about this world. Of course, we talked about it yesterday. The camp david accords that you can look at the last three president s and cannot find one of them having a positive Foreign Policy achievement. One of those, too, that were as successful as one of those two. Thats right. And he kept the peace. He was the first president since Thomas Jefferson who didnt have some kind of hostilities on his watch. Mika was there at camp david. I got rosalynn carters journals that she unpublished journals she made available to me. The tenacity, the virtuoso performance of jimmy carter at camp david on a day, mika, was supposed to take a bike ride with president carter, according to rosalynns journals, he was meeting th that time foreign minister to try to rescue camp david. That was the critical day you were supposed to go on the bike ride. He stayed back to put the thing back together again. On china, people think nixon opened the door to china, and he its true. In 1972 nixon went to china, but that didnt establish any kind of relationship. And the Global Economy is based on the relationship that ping and jimmy carter put together in 1979. Thats so true. Amazing. And speaking of mika, michael beschloss, it was always family lore broke the peace by running over someone with a golf cart. Just a tap. The family members told, until we went to dr. Brzezinskis funeral. Weigh talked to mrs. Carter, president carter. They said mika ran over him with a golf cart. I just nicked him. It wasnt that bad. That said, look at the 40 years of war before camp david and then you look at the 40 years of peace as far as ground wars after camp david. Please, someone tell me, a Peace Agreement that transformed a region more than that as far as ground wars. Thats right. Joe go ahead. I was going to say read johns book because he says it so well. Mika, what you did obviously resulted in this great achievement for peace and for american history. So whatever you did, hooray for you. You did it exactly right. A diplomat even then. Absolutely. Various american president s, until carter, had assumed the best they could do is to try to sort of keep the peace, keep the status quo. Carter tried to change things. And speaking of mika and her dad, one way he did that, you know, joe, you were talking about harry truman. One of his best qual fees was he was delighted to put in positions of power people more capable in certain ways and smarter than he was, and it tells you so much that jimmy carter made dr. Brzezinski National Security advisor, only someone with great selfconfidence and wisdom would have been that happy to have someone in that role with that soaring intelligence and also with very strong views of his own. Carter and brzezinski loved to debate. They did. And i actually told president carter at the funeral that he was a very patient man because unlike other president s, he did love the back and forth, and actually joked with dr. Brzezinski about how they never agreed with each other. And kasie hunt, i know you have a question next, but, you know, cy vance mixed it up in there. Jimmy carter was not afraid with cy vance, dr. Brzezinski, so many great leaders around him to bring the best and brightest in. Really, just sorry. Jonathan, to jump in there go ahead. Jimmy carter clearly surrounded himself with people who didnt always tell him what he wanted to hear, which just presents such a contrast to today. And Jonathan Alter, i wanted to ask you, on this day in history in 1979, and i think michael beschloss tweeted about this. We saw a different use of the white house balcony when jimmy carter walked out with Pope John Paul ii. We are showing a little bit here of the parade with the pope. Take us through, i mean, how stunning that, the difference between this imagery we are looking at of jimmy carter with the pope and where we are however many years ago on this very day. You know, carter, to be honest, had bad imagery himself. He was swamped towards the end of his presidency. I dont minimize that. He made a number of political mistakes. But he never embarrassed america. And he stood up not only for truth and honesty, but for seriousness of purpose. His conversations with the pope were about peace. He was constantly trying in a m hardheaded way than people might remember. For instance, to go back to china for a second, your father, mika, when he went to china before pings visit to set the whole thing up, he was intimately involved in that policy process. He said to the chinese at the great wall, first one up the wall gets to fight the russians. You know, and the insight of that joke was that this was big power politics. They were basically getting a relationship with china in order to help win the cold war against the soviet union. So carter, i think, is thought of as being swamped by the iranian hostage crisis. If you look closely at his foreign powellslicy, there are many achievements therein. Well, and ill just add to that anecdote that you shared about the racing, i think my dad brought to the table a lot of humor. I mean, he was really very funny. His humor translated to different cultures and languages very well. He was a psychological warrior. He really took the psychology of each individual, their background, their culture, their thinking in a mind when he was working with them and really appealed to them with a strategy in mind on how to deal with each personality psychologically, on top of having a brilliant mind and a deep sense of history and an ability to negotiate. He worked with people and appealed to their humor, their families, their humanity, and i think it made him incredibly successful on those two fronts. I am not sure who punched him. It might have been carter. Might have been my mom. He is wearing a bandaid there. But he brought all of that to the table every time, and it was effective. You know, micd beschloss go ahead. I was going to say he was so insightful, your father was so insightful about jimmy carter. When i interviewed him he told me that carter had basically three smiles. There was that, you know, smile for the public, which was only sometimes genuine. Then there was a tight smile, closedlip smile, when he was ticked off and he was a very demanding guy in a lot of ways. Then there was the genuine smile when he or your father, the dry, biting wit that they had. So the complexity of jimmy carter kept me fascinated this whole time. Your father had great psychological insight into his boss. I know we have to go. I want to end by saying, michael beschloss, weve talked about dr. Brzezinski for the past couple of minutes. It is remarkable that jimmy carter, anything that is said about anyone who worked for jimmy carter is actually a compliment to jimmy carter because, again, the man had such character that he would have cy vance around him, he would have dr. Brzezinski around him, he would have the best and the brightest around him. And one final thought, michael, and i will just say it in great contrast to the current jimmy carter at dr. Brzezinskis funeral gave credit to the opening to china to dr. Brzezinski. He said it wouldnt have happened without him. Let historians make that decision but, please, that was jimmy carterS White House. That was jimmy carters administration, and dr. Brzezinski did extraordinary things. But in that moment, i wasnt thinking about dr. Brzezinski, i was thinking about the humility of a man who engineered jimmy carter the greatest, most significant opening in american history. And even late into his life, unlike all great leaders that we study, jimmy carter was giving the credit to someone else. In part because he did have an impact but also to bring comfort to a family and friends and loved ones. It spoke so much about jimmy carters character. It did. And it does, and he was a loving man, and he is a loving man and he certainly had enormous taste in people. And it just made me cry to some extent to read johns book and think of someone like president carter and dr. Brzezinski working together to make our families safe. Compared to now when you have donald trump who all too often appoints people to National Security jobs who are about three levels lower than they should be and they are so grateful to have the job because they know that they would never have a job like this under any other president and they are willing to do things that no aide to a president should ever do. And one other quick thing, joe, you know, going back to last night, anyone who thinks that what we saw last night that strutting by our president and that mussolini stare and whole vaudeville act. Anyone who thinks thats normal, could you imagine in a million years jimmy carter or any modern president doing Something Like this . We are off the rails. We saw it last night. All right. The new book is his very best. Jimmy carter, a life. Jonathan alter, thank you very much and michael beschloss, thank you as well. Also, we mentioned harry truman during the discussion. A note that joes book saving freedom truman, the cold war and the fight for western civilization is coming out november 24th. Preorder that now. My mom is reading it. Shes loving it. Moving on to former president ial candidate Pete Buttigieg. Hes the author of the new book trust americas best chance. That examines the loss of trust in our institutions and the need to get it back. Trust. Mayor pete, great to have you back on the show. I figure you wrote this book given the fact that a lot of trust has been lost. How do we get it back . Yeah, i was reflecting on trust. First of all, as a candidate. When youre running for president you realize how much of an exercise in trust it is. Youre trusting your future to a team around you, but most importantly, youre asking americans to trust you with their lives. And i wanted this book to come out before the election because i think the election in many ways is our countrys ultimate exchange of trust. The American People, in something that was a radical innovation in the 18th century, are trusted to choose our leaders. Were all deciding who we should trust with things like the austin powers of the presidency. Of course, the problem right now is weve seen trust breaking down. I think there are three crises around trust in this country. Political trust where we have trouble trusting our institutions, social trust, americans actually trust each other less than we used to, and theres a huge problem of what i would Call International trust which is countries around the world that used to trust the u. S. To help lead the world. Wondering whether they can actually do that. So the book really explores all of that. And even just in the weeks since i sent in the manuscript for good were seeing more examples of that. Im troubled by this weeks news. Think about the way it feels wondering whether you can trust the president s doctor to be telling us the truth. He represents the white house, the military and medicine. Three of the institutions we should be most able to trust in moments of crisis. Yet americans are wondering whether we can believe anything were hearing about the president s condition, when the president was diagnosed and it speaks to that bigger problem. Mayor buttigieg, its willie geist. The white house, of course, has given the American People great reason not to trust what it hears. But you get into the book this doesnt obviously begin with the Trump Administration. If you go back to the late 50s and 60s there was great trust in the federal government and in the institutions to do the right thing. And thats eroded over time through watergate and through vietnam and through the financial crisis and 9 11 and all the things weve seen in the iraq war since then. I want to zero in on the social trust piece of it because thats deeply troubling. When david brooks calls this the age of disappointment for so many people. Just the way we look at each other in this age of trump. Its sort of, oh, that person is on that side. Im on this side. I cant trust that person anymore. How do you begin to rebuild that trust that has eroded . Well, thats exactly right. And just to get through life in more ways than we think, we depend on trust. Every simple transaction, every process we go through every day depends on the ability to trust other people around us. Weve got to do something about it. There are a lot of things we can do about it. This, for example, is one reason im a big fan of the idea of national service. Not forcing people to serve and certainly military service isnt for everybody. But when i tong hink to my time the military and learning to trust my life to people i had just met, people who were sometimes radically different from me in terms of their politics or where they were from or their background. Its a reminder that when people are brought together with a difficult challenge and an urgent mission, they can form those bonds of trust. And in a way, the American People are confronted with an urgent challenge and an Important Mission nationwide in dealing with this pandemic. And i think this is going to happen again over a longer period of time and confronting the looming climate crisis. With the right leadership, an emergency like what were facing now could actually be the occasion to build greater trust. Among americans. But of course, so much depends on what our leaders have to say and whether they would divide us for their own gain or recognize an opportunity to knit back together that social fabric in our country thats been so torn apart. One of the reasons its so important to me we elect joe biden this year. One of the things you were able to do during your campaign is to criticize your opponents, to criticize donald trump on matters of policy and temperament without mocking his voters as some people do. You come from a state of indiana where there are many trump voters. You served many of them as mayor of south bend, indiana. So on that question, the social cultural question of neighbors distrusting each other. Neighbors looking at each other differently because of politics, where do you go to start to build that piece back . Well, i think weve got to create more opportunities to engage people we disagree with politically without regard to politics. Build a relationship first and then we can talk about some of the differences and how we view the world. You know, social media has done a lot to drive us apart, but it also holds the potential if were using technology in the same way wed use kind of the tool kit of an inperson community, whether its our neighborhood, our city, maybe a Faith Community that were part of. Whatever we can do to build those overlapping patterns of belonging. Thats what were going to need in order to build that bigger sense of belonging that binds us together as an American People. This could actually be a moment of turn around when it comes to trust, when it comes to the social fabric of this country. But not if we stay on the path were on right now. If we stay on this path, were never going to make it. The new book is trust americas best chance. Pete buttigieg. Always great to have you on the show. Thank you very much for coming on. Before we go, looking ahead, kasie hunt, to the Vice President ial debate, thats tomorrow night, i just wonder if you have any intel. I know there will be some sort of major distance between the two candidates. Maybe some shields like, what, like what Jamie Harrison did with Lindsey Graham . But what steps are being taken to keep Kamala Harris safe from the covid virus that is coarursg through the presidency and obviously mike pence has been exposed. Hes tested negative, but you never know, but his staff as well. Theres an outbreak at the white house. How do we make sure that the other side is not infected . Well, and pence, of course, in theory, running the Coronavirus Task force which im sure is going to be something that comes up on that debate stage. There is going to be that plexiglas. Were told his team didnt want it but harris team likely smartly did. I think the stakes are very high in this Vice President ial debate. The president sick, battling covid. Vice president pence suddenly more into the spotlight because of that. Expectations very high for Kamala Harris as people see her while, obviously, this campaign is about joe biden. His selecting her as his Vice President ial pick puts her on a trajectory to be the future of the Democratic Party and maybe sooner rather than later, mika. All right. Well, kasie, thank you. And that does it for us this morning. Stephanie ruhle picks up the coverage right now. Hi there. Im stephanie. It is thursday, october 6th. Lets get smarter. President trump waking up at the white house this morning for the First Time Since friday after leaving walter reed Medical Center last night when he got back to the white house, he made a great big show of taking off his mask and posing for pictures on the balcony. Then, despite being infected with coronavirus himself, the president sent a defiant, potentially dangerous message to the American People. That covid is no big deal. I learned so much about coronavirus. And one thing thats for certain, dont let it dominate you. Dont be afraid of it. Youre going to beat it
