But at the same time, offsetting being a big deal and being president of the United States, you have this coming at you, everybody thats done business with you, it seems, that knows everything youve done wrong is about to spill it. We saw Donald Trumps initial defense with Michael Cohen, he said that Michael Cohen admitted guilt to crimes that are not crime. Thats not up to donald trump to decide whether these are crimes are not. Michael cohen was sort of hes trying to claim that he was swindled into making this agreement, admitting these crimes to face the potential of less jail time. Hes going to try to use the pulpit of being president to push off this oncoming storm. Lets go to john on this. What does he do now . He must wonder, hes a man of enormous ego and selfconfidence and hes been through a lot of stuff in his life. And it seems to me the vulnerability of his family. Sure, thats always been considered his achilles heel, the way he faicares for his adu children. There certainly is a battle stations mode there in the west wing, aides are accustomed to these negative headlines after negative headlines. And the president feels prosecuted. Its not a full meltdown yet. Hes fuming to his aides about what happened, but still feels like we can fight this, we can escape this. But this is also a president that declares time and time again that loyalty is the most important to him. Not the people around him. Loyalty to him is not just a oneway street. We have seen here, some of the closest people to him have already turned. It started with omarosa last week, and now we have pecker, cohn and weiselberg. The reason they turn is because they feel theyre vulnerable to prosecution. They know or sense they did something wrong that can be used to put them in jail for a long time. So hes surrounded himself with people who feel theyre vulnerable to federal prosecution. Sure, and thats not a great trend. There seems to be one holdout that seemed to have a question of reasonable doubt as a notion. But he may not get another juror like that for a while. Your thoughts . Im not so sure that he cant be indicted, i mean if he went around assassinating political rivals and congress would be in fear of their own lives before they can stand impeachment process. Do you think kavanagh would say that . We can talk about that another time. But the koonconstitutions flex on this point. Option two is impeachment. Democrats are worried about midterms in november. And option three, thats the most realistic option here, its not just trump himself, we have got the organization, which he cares a lot about. He cant hide behind executive privilege for that, he cant argue obstruction of justice didnt apply to me, thats outside of it. And of course he also has his children. And these prosecutors are being smart kind of moving in, outflanking him in some places and at some point hes going to be left standing alone, and the idea behind not indicting a president , is that under article 2 the executive power would be interfered with by an ongoing criminal investigation. I think this insanity were living through is the ability for the executive branch to function. We have to ask ourselves, how is the government even functioning at this point . Heres a guy who got every break in the campaign, i mean all the states we watched Election Night in 16 went his way, he didnt get minnesota or north carolina. He got everything that was in play. And they all broke lost in the last week or so. Hes been the beneficiary of good luck in his life i would say. It does seem that its evening out, the bad luck is catching up with the good luck. What a week for this guy. Thats the understatement of the century that trump has benefitted from good luck. And youre right, i think its turning. Hes now got Michael Cohen, whos pleaded guilty to these crimes and said the president directly would do that. This is a very different scandal today because than it was just a few days ago, because what was abstract and static is now very much real. And very much closing in on him. And the problem politically is its going to hang out there for a while. Were going to see more developments out of Michael Cohens cooperation with prosecutors, we may see more out of weiselberg and david pecker, were going to see more in the next manafort trial, it will be more and more and more. And his problems are going to mount not fade, and of course as you know in politics, when theres a problem out there, its very toxic politically, especially if it bears fruit. Now the fact that hes cooperating with the Southern District of new york, the Southern District, the fact that he is given immunity there, how does this work for mueller . We dont know the scope of the immunity, even though if its relating to cohen, we know cohen has said in open court and fingered or pointed his finger at the president as the one that actually directed that he make a violation of the federal Election Campaign statute. This is someone, as we have said, goes back for many, many years, he knows about what goes on the tax reasons, hes been involved in all the Financial Transactions from day one, he knows all about what donald trump knew and when he knew it. And so all of this attack and this notion of a witch hunt is not going to apply. It was Jeff Sessions who was actually in charge of the Southern District of new york. And if he lets session goes, not only do you have a political response, but Jeff Sessions presumably has some contact with the hes really getting cornered. We were a little bit close to check mate mode with this president. And the question really becomes how do we as a country get through this and heal from this . And hopefully, i think the rule of law will hold out, but then the fallout comes and the question is, whats going to happen to his base, i think, because were on that path. He knows every deal with russia, if there was any money laundering, if anything went on with russia, anything with collusion and money and why he would do it. This guy, weiselberg knows it. He lacks the one thing that really matters to donald trump, this glandular unthinking personal loyalty to the president. It seems to me thats right, his anger against Jeff Sessions is not that hes not tough on illegal immigration, theyre both tough on illegal immigration, his problem, according to trump, is he didnt protect trump from prosecution. Thats his problem. Thats right. And what you see with Jeff Sessions is somebody whos very loyalty following trumps agenda. He doesnt care that sessions is banning muslims and stopping people at the border, and reviewing peoples citizenship status, all these things that are really outside of the american norms, all he cares about is that this attorney general is settling scores about who trump cares about. He wants it to be very personal to him. Thats not what we have seen historically. We have seen attorneys general take on political agenda, but not a personal agenda. He knocks the head and kills the guy off one of his guys. Why doesnt the president just why doesnt he just get rid of Jeff Sessions, fire him, tomorrow morning, tonight at midnight, just fire him, why not do it .
