Have so far been unable to resolve their differences over trade. Prime minister mody and President Trump are still expected to announce new agreements on the purchase of u. S. Military equipment and possible Energy Cooperation against the backdrop of chinas growing influence. Prior to the trip Trump Administration officials said that the president is also expected to address alleged human rights abuses in cashmere and relay concerns about the treatment of religious minorities in that country. This is President Trumps first visit to india as president and fourth consecutive u. S. President to visit that country. Joining us from new delhi, india, Kelly Odonnell. Good to have you with us on this monday morning. What is the agenda of the president over this twoday state vis id. A pretty remarkable one as far as the fanfare. Reporter this is very much about spectacle and scale and the relationship between President Trump and Prime Minister mody. Really overriding more of a policy substance. They are talking about things that you outlined, defense spending where the u. S. Will sell about 3 billion worth of military equipment to india, there are still questions about resolving trade differences, especially when it comes to tariffs and so forth. So there are policy things to discuss, but far more important than that is the spectacle that certainly Prime Minister modi has tried to create for President Trump to reinforce the binding ties between the u. S. And india that have endured for a long time but really represented in the strong personalities of these two leaders. We have seen a great deal of effort put in by india to prepare for this visit where the president had more than 110,000 people in the new cricket stadium there, the largest cricket stadium in the world to give the president that scale of crowd that so often attracts his attention. In addition to that the president and first lady will see one of the great sites of india, the taj mahal, thats happening today. They paid a visit to one of the really important historical homes of Mahatma Gandhi and a place for hindu study. That was a much softer in terms of appearance visit but very important certainly here and there will be the state dinner and a lot of the official meetings but really think in terms of the visuals that have been established by india, knowing what that means to President Trump as a real important backdrop for this twoday visit which is about emphasizing these two large democracies. It is also a message to china in terms of the power relationship between the u. S. And india, but it is so much about the relationship and how thats reflected in the policies and politics of both nations. Ayman, yasmin. Nbcs Kelly Odonnell live for us in india. Thank you so much. Now to breaking news in the race for president , two people with firsthand knowledge tell nbcs craig melvin that congressman James Clyburn will endorse joe biden at an event on wednesday. The highly coveted endorsement is a major boost ahead of saturdays South Carolina primary which is viewed as a must win for the former Vice President. This also comes with news from nevada with nearly 88 of the vote in, nbc news projects joe biden will, in fact, finish in second place right now at 21 . Quite a distance from Bernie Sanders who powered to a victory with a Diverse Coalition of voters now at 47 . We will get more in on all these numbers in just a moment. First more from congressman jim clyburn who spoke out before we learned he would endorse biden. In fact, clyburn explaining what biden did wrong in the lead up to iowa and New Hampshire and why he predicts things will be different when biden takes the debate stage in South Carolina tomorrow evening. In the first two contests people from South Carolina, like around the country, were looking at this and ive heard from a lot of people that they thought that joe biden could have done more to engage during the debates, thought he could have done more to say why he would be deserving, and so i think he suffered from that because he didnt do enough, but i do believe that a lot of that had to do with other candidates. I think that at that time he had, what, 17 or 18 people on the stage, Kamala Harris i think unnerved him a little bit with her request he. Right. So all of this changes when you only have six people. So the dynamics on tuesday night will be totally different from what they were on those two contestes. And as we did mention senator Bernie Sanders won saturdays nevada caucuses in commanding fashion and with a Broad Coalition of support, dominated among hispanics winning over 50 , won more white voters than any other candidate, 29 , he was second only to joe biden amongst black voters, 27 there, he won 49 of voters who described themselves as very liberal. He tied biden with voters who described themselves as moderate conservative at 24 . He dominated amongst young voters, winning 65 of voters under 30 and 57 of voters under 45. He also dominated among voters who say they prefer a candidate who agrees with them on the i wish issues and placed first among voters who say their priority is to beat the president of the United States. President trump. Here is sanders addressing his supporters after that sweeping victory. Trump and his friends think they are going to win this electi election. They think theyre going to win this election by dividing our people up based on the color of their skin or where they were born or their religion or their sexual orientation. We are going to win because we are doing exactly the opposite, were bringing our people together. 2020 Democratic Front runner senator Bernie Sanders outlined his Foreign Policy approach in a recent interview including whether he would meet with north Korean Leader kim jongun. On Foreign Policy, you said you believe in diplomacy, youre concerned donald trump is going to get us into an unnecessary war. Are there situations where you believe military action is warranted. Of course i do. You know, hopefully as rare as possible, but, yeah, we have the best military in the world. What would your criteria be for military action . Threats against the American People to be sure, threats against our allies, i believe in nato, i believe that the United States, everything being equal, should be working with other countries in alliance, not doing it alone. If china took military action against taiwan is that something that you would thats something again, i think we have to make it clear to countries around the world that we will not sit by and allow invasions to take place, absolutely. Would you meet with kim jongun . Yeah. I mean, ive criticized for trump for everything under the sun, but meeting with people who are antagonistic is to me not a bad thing to do. I think unfortunately trump went into that meeting unprepared, i think it was a photo opportunity and did not have the kind of the diplomatic work necessary to make it a success, but i do not have a problem with sitting down with adversaries all over the world. Sanders also defended past comments he made about former cuban leader fidel castro. Were very opposed to the authoritarian nature of cuba, but its unfair to simply say everything is bad. You know, when fidel castro came into office he had a massive literacy program. Is that a bad thing, even though fidel castro did it. A lot of dissidents in prison didnt thats right, and we condemn that. Unlike donald trump, lets be clear, i do not think that kim jongun is a good friend. I dont trade love letters with a murdering dictator. Vladimir putin, not a great friend of mine. Lets talk about some of this. Joining us now from charleston, South Carolina, nbc news 2020 embed following the Bernie Sanders campaign gary germbach. Good morning. By saturday night after nevada Bernie Sanders already moving on to texas, skipping right over South Carolina it seems. What does this say about the campaigns strategy heading into super tuesday which is just around the corner . Thats right. Well, in a first last few days leading up to the nevada caucus Bernie Sanders his campaign really was not worried about the state of nevada. He had spent months and months there in the highly Populated Areas of las vegas and reno, even in the lesser Populated Areas of henderson, nevada, talking to voters, getting out there, holding town halls, taking questions from voters. It shows he was up more than 20 points to former Vice President biden so clearly that ended up working out for them. He got a head start on super tuesday states by heading to the state of texas, he held four massive rallies this weekend in major cities across the state of texas and so gone are the days now of talking to voters in terms of answering their questions oneonone, more of a town hall format, these were major rallies with more than 25,000 supporters across the state in total over the four rallies. Coming out i see senator Bernie Sanders. I know that, gary, joe biden will soon receive that coveted endorsement of congressman jim clyburn. How has his support among africanamericans changed since Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg claimed victories in those early states, i should say Bernie Sanders claiming victory in those early states, Pete Buttigieg leading in the delegate count in iowa . Yeah, thats right. So in the lead up to iowa and New Hampshire while most of the candidates were in iowa and New Hampshire, senators are surrogates, nina turner, cordell west, phillip ago knew, they were spending time in South Carolina talking to the voters and finding out the issues that mattered to them and focusing on criminal Justice Reform and their housing plan. Thats how senator sanders i think is really succeeding here in South Carolina and closing that gap between former Vice President biden and senator sanders himself. Gary, what is sanders main strategy heading into super tuesday so that he could feasibly walk away from that pivotal day in this primary process and make voters believe that he is running away with this potential nomination . Senator sanders has been on message or i think more than 40 years now and is staying on that message, not getting distracted by some of the other stories in the news but staying on message and focusing on the issues that Americans Care about, things like medicare for all, things like college for all which is one of senator sanders signature plans. He is also using South Carolina and he used nevada as a jumping point for other Campaign Events around the region. So he will be heading to this week he will be heading to virginia, he will be heading to North Carolina and all across here in South Carolina making the point that this is important to him, this is what matters and the American People need to hear what he has to say. Gary, live in South Carolina, we will talk to you again in just a little bit. Still ahead, much more ahead on the race for president including Mike Bloomberg reversing his decision on those nondisclosure agreements after being called out by Elizabeth Warren. Back in a moment. District court judge Amy Berman Jackson the judge that sentenced roger stone to more than three years in prison last week has rejected stones request that she recuse herself from a potential new trial. The motion argued that jackson could could not impartially relate the request over juror misconduct. They allege her ability to remain impartial. She said the jurors had served with integrity. Jackson defended her remark and said it fell short of the evidence of bias that would require a judge to step aside. She wrote in part, quote, judges cannot be biased and need not be disqualified if the views they express are based on what they learned while doing the job they were appointed to do. Stones motion for a new trial remains pending before jackson with the defenses next filing on the issue due later today. Lets get a check on your weather with nbc meteorologist bill karins. Good morning. Welcome back. We are watching for the most part a couple weak storms this week, we are not going to have one big huge one, but a lot of active weather out there. You will need the umbrella often in the ohio valley and southeast. The storm is over the top of Oklahoma City and wichita, this is a shield of heavy rain, a soaking rain kansas city and st. Louis to start your day. We still have light rain traveling through areas of southeast, its definitely an umbrella day through much of the southeast and the ohio valley. Anyone traveling the airports today looks like rain, maybe foggy conditions in atlanta, could have possible delays, delays nashville, st. Louis with moderate rain, it will approve a little later in the afternoon. New orleans could have scattered storms and chicago youre going to go for rain later on tonight and tomorrow is when you go rain over to snow. Its amazing we havent had a lot of big snowfall forecasts this february and that continues. Just this little narrow sliver from the quad city south wards, northern portions of missouri and then this little stripe through davenport, looks like towards milwaukee to chicago, we could end up with 1 to 3 inches of snow, at most a few spots could pick up 4 to 5 inches. This will be primarily during the day tuesday, heading into tuesday night and that will be about it. Your week ahead forecast, we have rain in the southeast, snowy weather in the northern rockies. Some will spread out into the plains. We have one more beautiful nice day for the northeast today, could be 60 degrees in boston this afternoon. How enjoyable is that . You dont get many february days like that. As we go into your wednesday our storm system lingers with Rainy Weather over areas of the northeast, still a little bit of snow on the backside. By the time we get to thursday and friday that clears out and much colder air will arrive. Looks like the end of this week much calmer, more winterlike as temperatures will tumble throughout areas of the great lakes and northeast. We have one week left in february, we are on pace for an extremely warm february as weve noticed. We may come close to the warmest february ever recorded, areas like boston, new york, you know, no snow and warm temperatures. I have to say after arriving back from somewhere that was hovering around negative 15 when i got up in the morning and went to sleep at night it was nice to have 60 degrees yesterday when i arrived back at the airport. Strange, though. Yes, very strange. Thank you, bill. Thanks, bill. Still ahead, major developments in the coronavirus as cases surge outside of china with some countries now closing their borders.
