Show her how it should be done. And then the interview with President Trump, do they delay it, limit the scope or avoid it altogether . Good morning, everyone. Its monday, january 29th. I am Ayman Mohyeldin along with louis burgdorf. We begin with last nights Grammy Awards. Recording artists like cher, snoop dogg and a 2016 candidate read from the Trump Administration tellall book. Fire and fury spoken word auditions, take one. Trump wont read anything. He gets up halfway through meetings with World Leaders because he is bored. Cut. Sorry, john. Its wonderful. It just feels a bit too smooth. I dont think its going to work. If trump is not having his 6 30 dinner with steve bannon, more to his liking, he was in bed by that time with a cheeseburger. Why am i even reading this [ bleep ] . I cant believe in this. I cant believe that he really thats how he lives his life . He is a long time fear of being poisoned pup one reason why he liked to eat at mcdonalds, nobody knew he was coming and the food was safely premade. Thats it. Weve got it. Thats the one. You think so . So however Ambassador Nikki Haley was not laughing at the matter. In fact, she tweeted out, i have always loved the grammys, but to have artists read the fire and fury book killed it. Dont ruin great music with trash. Some people love music without the politics thrown in it. Over the weekend, haley denied rumors. Speaking to Cnns Van Jones on saturday, jayz said the controversial comments this weekend from the president about africa added to a worsening climate of racism in america. Its disappointing and its hurtful. It really is hurtful more so. Like everyone feels anger. After the anger, its hurtful because youre looking down on a whole population of people and youre so misinformed because these places have Beautiful People and beautiful everything. And its just like this is the leader of the free world speaking like this. You dont take the trash out. You just keep spraying whatever over it to make it acceptable and then, you know, as those things grow, then you create a super bug. Now we have donald trump the super bug. You can imagine President Trump fired back at jayz yesterday tweeting out somebody please inform that jayz because of my policies, black unemployment has just been recorded to be at the lowest raid ever recorded. During his interview, jayz was asked about whether its okay for trump to say terrible things amid the president thes claims about africanamerican unemployment. Here is how he responded. This is not about money at the end of the day. Money doesnt equate to happiness. It doesnt. Youre missing the whole point. You treat people like human beings. And then, you know, thats thats the main point. You cant treat someone like that goes back to the whole thing. Treat me really bad and pay me well. Thats not going to lead to happiness. And as morning joes Joe Scarborough pointed out on saturday, in fact, black unemployment is at a record low thanks to a massive declining trend starting back in 2010. Congratulations, barack obama. With less than 48 hours until the state of the union, lawmakers seem ready to clash about a memo between the Justice Department and the fbi. Byron york reports the how Intelligence Committee meets today at 5 00 p. M. And could vote on the memo. Its based on classified information. It allegeses abuse and bias. If approved, house rules will be called by the committee on whether trump supports or opposes releasing the memo. The Washington Post released last week trump sought the release of the memo. The Justice Department had actually called the release of the memo without prior review extraordinarily reckless. In a letter to nunes on that same day. On wednesday, john kelly spoke twice with attorney general Jeff Sessions and conveyed trumps desire to see the memo released. Trump is inclined to have that released just because it will shed light. All the rumorses are that it will shed light and help investigators come to a conclusion. They have been doing their investigation. They found something out. Ive gone down, ive read it. The committee voted this is the process. It voted to allow members to read it. They have the ability to vote and why are they afraid to send this to the Justice Department for review . Arent we separate but coequal . Dont we have the responsibility for oversight . You have the executive branch and the legislative branch. As the legislative branch looks at it, it will send it to the executive branch beforehand. They have the ability to approve it or deny sending it forward. Having read this memo, i think it would be appropriate the full public to view it. And you dont perceive that as the president tampering with an investigation . It has nothing to do with the president right now. So in this morning, attention will be put on Deputy Attorney general Rod Rosenstein. Members of congress weighed in over the weekend on whether its time to pass one of the bipartisan bills put forward last year to safeguard the special counsels office. Hes cooperating. How about legislation to protect mueller . I dont think theres a need for legislation to protect mueller. Thats new york talk. I look at it strictly as the new york language they have which is different than most other people. Ive got legislation protecting mr. Mueller and aisle id be glad to pass it tomorrow. I see no evidence that President Trump wants to fire mr. Mueller now. You see legislation that you havent seen the need for legislation protecting mueller. Do you see the need now . It probably wouldnt hurt for us to pass one of those bills. If we dont do something before, trying to do something afterwards if there is a firing and then we try to reestablish the office, i think that would be quite difficult. And maybe it is appropriate now. And the wall street yurwall sts reporting the president s team is seek to go avoid an interview with the special counsel. In fact, people familiar with the matter say trumps attorneys are examining a 1997 ruling that president and their advisers enjoy protections about having to disclose information about their decisionmaking process or executive actions. They must show that such information contains important evidence that isnt available elsewhere because a court fight over an interview or a grand jury testimony could take months to resolve, legal scholars say trumps lawyers could use their willingness to invoke the case as a bargaining chip to get better terms for a bargaining interview. Joining us now, White House Correspondent sara westwood. Great to have you with us this morning. So lets talk about all of this because after this the president told reporters that he were looking forward to sitting down with mueller, weve seen his team back pedal somewhat. What is the driving concern about a sitdown with mueller . What are you hearing . There are some reports that those close to the president are actually terrified of him sitting down with bob mueller. Absolutely. People in and around the white house are very can confident that theres no underlying collusion mueller is going to find, but theyre a lot less confident that nobody involved in the investigation has taken any kinds of actions that could constitute obstruction, particularly at the beginning of the investigation prosecute before everyone realized how serious this probe really was. So i think theres some concern that if President Trump does sit down in front of robert mueller, that confidence that theres no collusion could cause him to potentially be reckless in that oneonone interview format in a way that could trap him into committing perjury or making some kind of misstatement that gets him into unnecessary amounts of trouble. And any good legal team would seek to limit the opportunities for President Trump to do that. So what do you make of all of these renewed efforts over the weekend . We have played a mashup of some of those sound bites of Congress Talking background protecting bob muellers job. We saw similar efforts fizzle out in the fall. Do you see the dynamics changing given the fact that weve seen this information that the president was considering firing bob mueller . I think theres a wait and see approach right now. Because President Trump is about to submit for an interview and were learning other high level officials including attorney general Jeff Sessions have sat down with interviews with robert mueller, theres a sense that potentially the investigation could be coming to a close. In the clinton email investigation, for example, when Hillary Clinton sat down for her oneonone interview with fbi investigators, that signaled the end of the probe because the fbi gathered all the evidence that they were going to look at, they sat down with her, checked that box, the investigation was over. So i think some republicans before they put their full weight behind legislation that could anger the president are going to wait and see if President Trumps interview is also going to signal the end of muellers investigation. Sarah, let me ask you quickly about this controversial classified nunes memo. It seem to be somewhat gaining steam from over the weekend. Do you think the House Intel Committee meeting today at 5 00 p. M. To consider declassifying it will do so . And if so, is this going to deepen the divide over the russia investigationing on capitol hill . Well, theres a lot of support and motivation among republicans to do Everything Possible to release this mem o d and they know they have the backing for this. But look, the house Intelligence Committees russia investigation has been the most partisan since the beginning and its why youve seen a lot of the serious investigative work taking place over on the senate side where politics stayed more out of it. You have to admit, it seems awkward that the department of justice and attorney general Jeff Sessions are finding themselves on the opposite side of what the president wants this morning. Sarah, well talk to you later on in the program. Thanks. Thanks. And a Senior Adviser to Hillary Clintons 2008 campaign accused of Sexual Misconduct was allowed to remain at her request. The New York Times reports that according to four people familiar with the situation, clintons Senior Adviser, berne strider, was accused of repeatedly sexually harassing a young subordinate. According to Campaign Documents from the time, the young woman alleged that strider gave her five kisses on the head and engaged in tracking of her whereabouts among other claims. Clintons Campaign Manager recommended strider be fired, but clinton decided against doing so. In an interview with buzz feed, strider acknowledged many of the incidents as true and said for some he did not recall the incidents in the same way as the women did. Strider dismissed some of his actions as simply friendly or characteristics of his southern background. Clinton tweeted a response to the report on friday saying, i was dismayed when it occurred, but it was heartened the young woman came forward,s was heard and had her concerns taken seriously and addressed. I called her today to tell her how proi proud i am of her and to make sure she knows what all women should, we deserve to be heard. And senator marco rubio has fired his chief of staff after reports of Improper Conduct with staffers. Rubio said he traveled from florida to washington on saturday night to fire top adviser clint reed after learning about about those claims. Rubio said he was made aware of the allegations for the first time on friday and immediately began investigating the matter. Adding, quote, i had sufficient evidence to conclude that while employed by this office, my chief of staff violated Office Policies regarding proper relations between a supervisor and their subordinates. I further concluded that this led to actions which, in my judgment, amounted to threats to withhold employment benefits. Reed began working for rubio in 2015 as the iowa state director for his president ial campaign and stayed on to run his Senate Reelection campaign. Nbc news was not immediately able to reach reed for my comment. Still ahead, do they have 2020 vision . Two candidates who lost their partys primary are now talking about their political futures. Meanwhile, the same republican candidate would called donald trump a jerk during the 2016 election is now warning that the president s character may hinder republicans in the midterms. In a new interview with usa today, jeb bush said the character of the guy and the infighting and the constant chaos surrounding his president has made it hard for him. I want the president to seed. I dont think he will seed if he continues on this path. On the medicine tirms, bush said, quote, if the election is nationalized and its not about the economy, then well lose. If its about the economy and its driven by state or district interest, incumbents can do well. Bush criticized his former opponent and fellow Florida Republican marco rubio claiming he needs to lead on immigration. As for his own political future, bush tells usa today that washington has become so toxic, quote, until that changes, i dont anticipate running for anything.
