discussions about the issue of resignation? >> there has. i spoke to one democratic aide before i came over here. they said, look, they really do not want representative weiner to be within congress anymore he is so much of a distraction. they feel that his saga, plight, whatever you want to call it is really bringing attention oi way from issues that they sincerely care about. they had their first big win as a party in new york's 26 congressional district a few weeks ago using the issue of medicare. saying save medicare, vote democrat. that was starting to resonate with voters. that message has been completely muddled because of representative weiner. you're hearing things about democrats. they'd like for him to get out of here and move along. it's a little bit of a sigh of relief for democrats that he didn't show up for work today. that would have been a media frenzy. no one knows what representative weiner is going to do or when he's going to come back to washington if at all. >> luke, you're covering the release of these photos through tmz over the weekend. any reaction that we're back at work on monday from capitol hill from any of the congressmen there? >> i spoke to one member who was -- he used the word shocked by it. that someone would be so emboldened to take those kind of photographs by themselves and think it was okay to submit across the internet. it's played into what has been a culmination of mesmerizing events where no one thought anyone was capable of doing this as a member of congress. as one member told me it's stupid. you have an electronic record of doing wrong things. why are you amaeszing an electronic on it? that's where they come down on him as a fellow member. the thing we're seeing is some push back from the gop calling on anthony weiner to release this formal leave of absence request. in order for there to be a leave of absence it must be signed by pelosi and cantor. so far we have a request to weiner's spokesperson. there's been no formal request for a leave of absence. that needs to come forward or it should come forward in order for him to take this request which is ultimately going to be paid for by tax payers he will not resign. >> not showing up as you discussed at the top of this discussion we just had. luke russert, thank you. >> take care. outside the congressman's new york city office this weekend about 30 voters rallied for his resignation. take a listen to this. >> he's the laughing stock of the nation at this point. in order to be an effective leader, you have to be respected. >> margaret wagner is president of the rock away republicans. michael is a constituent who supports cgressman weiner. thank you both for being with me here today. i want to start with this, when we take a look at the situation right now, michael, has he done anything wrong that you have seen? you're a supporter of weiner. >> what he's done has been disgusting no doubt about that. it's also personal. i said that the other night. he's done no crime. there have been no minors involved. no money involved. there's no violence involved. and he's one of the strongest and clearest voices that the progressives have in congress today. >> should he leave? >> no. i do agree in his love of absence for medical and mental treatment, but i don't believe he should leave. he's been a strong constituent for the district for 14 years. he was elected with a 20% margin. i think the people want him to stay. i certainly do. >> margaret, what do you think? should this be left up to the voters? >> i do not think it should be left up to the voters. i think it should be his own party right now is calling for he has resignation. i think he should listen to them. and i think for the people in the ninth district that he should step down now and end this scandal. >> you're saying he should step down now. does it not work to the gop's advantage those candidates here in the new york area in the ninth district based on some of the repercussions that we've been covering over the last week, does this not assist the gop? >> what has happened recently many the news is he cannot represent us effectively. he's not representing the people of the ninth district now or the standards that we expect him to live up to. he has much lower standards now. i personally cannot trust him. i think he's lost a lot of credibility. >> now this must be difficult for your constituents as well, the democrats. there's debate certainly within your group. we saw some of that video earlier of the protests going on. what are they saying to you about weiner and you still supporting him? >> let me tell you, i've spoke on the a lot of people in the neighborhood and co-workers from the area, and there is a lot of opinion on both sides. but when it comes down to the politicians of it, people think that obama came into office with a very strong and clear voice, he's been too busy compromising. we need voices like weiner speak up for us. nobody else is doing that. >> do you think he should run for mayor? >> we'll come to that when it happens. i think it's premature to say that. >> what do you think right now? there's been some discussion out there. >> let me tell you, i think a lot of including msnbc has been fanning these flames. i think the republicans would like it to be a distraction. but you know what, if there was another big news today we wouldn't be talking about this here. >> margaret, it's been said that new york voters are different. that perhaps that weiner could still survive in a year and a half, two years from now. how are new york voters different than other voters around the country? >> in this situation i don't think they will be considered different. i think in the end they will resign. the new york voters want him to resign. people are coming together, mothers in the district are very upset. we teach our children to be honest. we want our politicians. we want someone we can trust. he is no longer a representative that we can trust and he has to live up to higher standards. >> all right. margaret wagner, president of the rock away republicans. thank you as well as michael blosen a constituent who supports congressman weiner. >> good discussion. >> thank you. right now let's take a look at the number from wall street. at the moment, we're trying to shake six straight weeks of losses. the numbers are down. we've been watching it get a little bit of a red arrow up earlier, green arrow. red air owe down when we talk about the nasdaq. up 20 in points. that looks good right now as we are trying to rebound questioning the double dip question. right now president obama is meeting with some of the nation's top ceos and job experts speaking about the economy trying to find new ways to boost the struggling job market. nbc's christian welker is live in durham, north carolina. there is a new plan more details of a plan that's a proposal is that right, kristen? how's it changed since yesterday? >> reporter: yesterday the tone of these firefighters changed. they started sounding much more optimistic. they were gaining ground on this massive fire. they say controlled burns in the north and east really helped them out. they have 10% of this fire contained. the controlled burn basically is a fire that they start right before the line of the wildfire. now the wildfire feeds on those lush pine trees. by burning those trees ahead of time, they're able to stop the fire and start to contain it. another big factor in fighting this fire are the hot shot crews. these are the elite firefighters that go in there, they clear out the trees, clear out the brush and help contain this fire. they've been at it 16 hours a day for two weeks now. they admitted to me they've only showered twice in two weeks. they're amongst the hardest working firefighters in this country. i asked a rookie hot shot if he ever got scared? >> everyone gets scared. you know, you just trust the buddies that you have and the leadership that you're under and hopefully with your training you're able to get home safe. >> reporter: and here are the latest stats on the wildfire. right now it's larger than 700 square miles. that's larger than the city of houston. there are 4300 firefighters battling this blaze. as i mentioned earlier, they have 10% of this fire contained. it did jump the border into new mexico over the weekend. there's about 5,000 acres on fire in new mexico. a new wildfire south of us that firefighters are going to have to head to as well. that's the latest from springerville. >> what a challenge there. it's a crime that's almost unthinkable. police say a wife pushed her husband out of the window and killed him. but that's only half of the story. and hairs, fibers and flesh-eating insects in the trunk of casey anthony's car. what does that mean for the case against anthony? >> correct. it's actually they're air pockets. we don't know how they form. the kicker here is that there are other mechanisms to form such a banding pattern on hair. so it is not absolute proof of decomposition. further more, we can't even say to a degree of scientific certainty that the hair is that of caylee. >> that is one issue. the hair banding that's being discussed. what essentially as we look at this is being shown so far? why should it be shown because it's being denied right now by the judge? >> it's being denied it's an attempt to demonstrate what a hair band looks like. an attempt to create such a band on a living hair. it's not really evidence. and therefore it's been kept out. >> there was also on saturday for those who may not have been watching the case over the weekend, on saturday there was the discussion and the introduction of information regarding flies and fly larvae found in casey anthony's car. what are they trying to bring together there?
