I also voted for obama. With the 19 about or is it too late . First time for republicans. It wouldve been good for the tina immigrants, the president. The bastards who are desperate for change the concession is latinas. Come out and play i believe President Trump [speaking spanish] dont put that aside for any political party. We are two days away from the election, its incredibly tight. The control of congress for key votes and key states, and thats why latinas, americas largest minority, with 30 million eligible voters have never been so powerful. Ive spent the last year traveling across the country, talking to the tina butters, trying to figure out who they will come out for. And so latinos have consistently overwhelmingly voted for democrats. But that feels like its beginning to shift. A poll came out today and said the interest in the midterms as heights been since 2006. Now, its 56 for the democrats. The democrat advantage for latino voters has shrunk by half in the past decade. You can see the last president ial election, when donald trump improved his showing among the to know voters by about ten points. You can see today, theres a reason that the former president was stumping in miamidade, where latinos make up 70 of the population. Theres a reason that has minority leader Kevin Mccarthy with a majority the tina was in texas. Theyre trying to defend one seat and get to others. Republican see something, an entry point, and making a big play for the latino vote this time around. Just 48 hours, we might have more clarity, or perhaps more confusion on it. About whether or not the strategy is paying off. Im joined by four people years and decades, trying to understand how the teen is eroding, and why. We have Nbc News National Political correspondent, democratic Vice President of heart resurgence icy. And of course ceo and a star panel. Im very privileged to be here with all of you tonight. Thank you very much. Well start with you, because its in other words, to tell you that here. I might have to take advantage of that. Lets talk big picture, where will the latina vote matter the most . It is strange not to be standing next to a board, so hopefully this will still work. Look, the battle for the senate right now is the highest profile of many highprofile races putting it on tuesday night. It couple estates at the senate level obviously, weve got the largest populations in nevada which comes to mind. Between 15 and 20 of the electorate in nevada is hispanic, heavily concentrated in court candy, thats where most of the population is in nevada. And the las vegas area, basically. And another state that i think about a decade ago, democrats and republicans both had thought that nevada was not so much a swing state as it was becoming a blue state. Now it has become a swing state again. Both 2015 and 2020, democratic candidate by two and a half points. Interestingly, if you look really close in nevada in 2020, the trump did a little bit better in that clark county area in 2016. He actually did worse, and with irena speaking to whats going on there. Some inroads and some gains for trump within hispanics. In the las vegas area, nevada, and republicans are just looking at that data, they believe the day can work nevada, that might be all they need for that senate. Similar story in arizona, incumbent there as a very large population. A very close election in 2020. You can even talk about colorados being a restate for republicans, its got a large population. In georgia, theres a rising hispanic operation. The metro area has one of the fastestgrowing shares of the population, and obviously its a tight senate race there with Herschel Walker and raphael warnock. It could be meaningful. Youve studied this so many times, your polls were great. You really look at the issues that are driving the scene of voters, but more than anything youre trying to see who gets it. Your polls find that latinas trust democrats when it comes to abortion, health care, democracy, education, their values. But the trust starts to really fade when were talking about the economy, were talking about border security, over talking about crime. What more are you finding . Tell me more about that . For the very First Time Since they asked a question of latino voters, latino voters are giving republicans an advantage on for the First Time Since we asked this question. And so thats notable right there. Yes, democrats have the advantage, but especially with every other issue. Abortion, health care, education, you name it. This key issue that i now essential, it is notable that republicans for the first time are going they trust republicans more. You have to ask yourself, whats going on here . One group im starting to specifically is not educated latino. [inaudible] in 2016, 18, 20, it cant just be that the reversal of it a little bit. And so when you consider that state of the economy, throughout all of these elections, you begin to identify a democratic messaging problem. We know that Lieutenant People are with us on these key issues. The thing is, thats not on their agenda in an affected way. And you asked question, whats going on here . They wanted people to have the polls, i think that the one thing that is clear is that yes, democrats will continue when the latina vote, and youll also see those margins decreasing, not slowly, but steadily, decreasing. Congresswoman alexandra was trying to answer that question of, what is going on. I want to take a listen, owner here would she had to say. I can say with latino voters, we never tried as a party. The Democrat Party is not for you in terms of the latino electorate. What was your reaction when you heard . One of the things shes putting out there is that latino can care about immigration, its absolutely an issue that we care about, but its not necessarily a voting issue. Its very much the economy right now. I have to talk about, you see how latinos are not monolithic, its very true. But it has everything to do with the country of origin, unless youre from florida, and everything to do with generation, and so yes in 2020, she couldve time latinas voted for biden, but thats because they were over the age of 40. If theyre under the age of 40, the biggest opportunity for the Democratic Party is among the young latino voters. You got georgia, the candidates are about 4 of that electoral base, and are about 20 of the classrooms. The Aging Inability to know population in arizona nevada, and georgia, is overwhelming. The only place, the only state where young latinos are not florida. Thats why you have this policy, they very much are attracted to individuals because they oftentimes have the voting, and it comes from Different Countries where they have very volatile systems, and are more conservative. Youre saying is generation, but i think that another thing the color that symmetry was it was all latina backed, specifically man the departing from the Democratic Party. Something that we saw very clearly in 2020, and specifically in states like North Carolina in nevada, they start to look specifically at latino men, what do you think about that . The latina men . Youre seeing the genome and perform like White Working Class voters. I think that theres a number of explanations, here but probably the most important ones culture. Republicans are connecting culturally with these voters. These are men who came to this type of work, they came here to provide a better life to their kids, and a lot of them send money back home. They have trouble identifying with the discourse that we sometimes hear from the far left. They are rejecting this person, theyre embracing this vision of america. You hear a lot of republicans talking about how this country is the greatest country in the world, its really emphasizing the plot of this country focusing on the attributes. That is really resonating with these voters. They are moving quickly towards republican. I would jump in and say then as everyone here, the gender gap among latino voters has always existed. Its not new, 2016, theyre just always been there. In 2020, we had a Turnout Issue in that latino men did turn out in high enough numbers as we expected. That changed the composition of the election, and we do see the benefit from having more the genome and show up at the polls. A lot of them are disproportionately impacted when it comes to decisionmaking, lets look at the crew. This Latino Community, who is targeted, its latino men. African american men, and so its not a surprise that a lot of the information that theyre receiving encourages this idea of culture. If one of the Biggest Challenges that i think the democrats and republicans have done wrong is that they have basically stolen the idea that there are cultural tropes. They actually support abortion, that is a cultural will get into all of that in this discussion. Gender dynamics, but really quickly before we get a break, when the plane pulled close on tuesday, what are the key races that youre going to be looking into . Are there indicators to sort of dive in for a way that latino voters will vote . First thing will look for at 7 00 is floridas fast vote counting today, miamidade county. Rubio was at miamidade county, we can tell you all about it. But its a 30 plus democratic points and republicans maintain that. Are they actually going to improve it . Is the team carrying . Is there a congressional feet there. Reelection, democrats believe that they have a vote by one point in 2020, they believe they have a shot. Im a ceo shes doing so that we can give you an early recap in florida, about 8 00 eastern you talk about texas, those three districts right on the border. Their unique dynamics for all of them, but you see some of the counties that make up those districts, being more dramatic than any county in a country, 70, 80, 90 plus counties. Amazing, we get to all of this in a couple of minutes. Coming up, the travel for some of those key Congressional Districts, and the extremely tight races, and whether the latino vote will determine which party takes congress. All of that, up next.
