Now were handing thing the november man starring Shailene Woodley, octavia expenser and miles teller is made in hollywood i am here on location in los angeles and today i am sitting down with the entire cast from the movie insurgent. Inspired by a true story al pacino, Jennifer Garner and Annette Benning star in Danny Collins this is an adult film that you cant easily pin down you cant say its a comedy you cant say its a drama the spiritual drama do you believe features Cybill Shepherd. As made in hollywood celebrates its 10th anniversary season. Hey, i am Shailene Woodley i am general officer garner i am miles teller. You are watching made in hollywood. Made in hollywood. Made in hollywood. Welcome to made in hollywood. Made in hollywood in insurgent as being expod eye die very gent, four find themselves on the run from the power hungry leader. I am miles teller and you are watching made in hollywood. And here is a scene from insurgent. You found it. The future our people deserve. What do you think is in that box, kaleb . I dont know, but shes testing divergence this movie is so good. I was a huge fan of the first one i can told you about how i read all the books, i had been waiting for this one and i want to see it already a second time oh, my god, thats awesome i was interested to see what you would do with trish for the fill. Film. I know she goes a lot its excite. Its exciting to play someone torn apart internally. Coming from the first installment. Trish lost her parents, had to kill one of her best friends so horrendous she witnessed a genocide and internally shes in a very broken place and has to call bon her upon they are strengths whatever strength she has in order to accomplish her goal searching for the one that can open it find them. Every last one of them. Its cool that you are part of a franchise like this because you dont have to go through that icebreaking business. So what was it like for you being able to whats the ice breaking business . You have to when you work with somebody for the first name right. Now you know everyone. So what was it like being reunited with all of your fellow cast members . Yeah, well half of them are dead. From divergent half of the cast is no longer there. But working with shailene again that was great. So izoe is cool and thigh owe. I got to work with kate winslet for the first time. As much fun it is working with people you already know, its great to work with an ass actress or actor that you have never worked with on the first one with a big cast there is lots of figuring each other out. Now we know each other and people can bounce in and do their bits and then head off and do the other stuff that they are doing as well i am friends with these guys, these two that are flying through the air you werent friends before . No, we were friends before. But we are even closer. Its like high school, you know coming back sophomore year. They are never going to stop coming after us. Its time we fight back you are an Academy Awardwinning actress, you bring this level of prestige to the set and i am assuming that all of the young actors want today really bring their a game. I wanted to know what its like to be on the other side. So for you when you walk on the set and they are all nervous what is it like for you . Okay, first of all, that is one of the most gifted group of actors, and you have kate winslet an acadia ward wish naomi watts threetime nominee. Shailene is a brilliant little actress and, miles is brilliant. So i dont think i ever saw nerves. I think everybody wanted to just be present, do their best work. And really have fun. I actually was nervous going onto the set because whenever you arrive late on a movie which i have done many times, where, you know relationships are already established, and how do you fit in, you know reminds me of the time when i changed school, which i did more than once, quite a few times actually, and you think, oh who am i going to sit with. Who will be my friends. You know. This is passionless. This is insane. Janine claims you are all dangerous insurgents, if we were to combine forces, we would be unstoppable i am always so excited when i watch a movie based off of a book that i love and that i read because i want to know what they have taken out and how it compares to my initial vision. So how does that work for you as the author . You have to practice letting go of it once the book comes out because every reader has a different interpretation of, you know, what characters look like or scenes look like, and they draw fan art and sends it to you. So i feel like i have been letting go and letting people interpret of work since its come out i was a huge divergent fan not knowing that, you know, one day i would get to be a part of the cast. So i was a huge fan, as a matter of fact, we saw her out we had like suitcase so we could get all the free books. [ laughter ] like i need your book. I need to you sign it i havent read die very gents or insurgent. I have made the conscious choice just to wait. And see you know, once the series is done and go right back to the books and compare the two. Dark times call for extreme measures. Lets begin. I was actually watching our interview from a year ago for divergent its really funny because you were talking about training. And saying that it was super easy for you. Yeah, well but then i talked to shailene after you, and she said that you were not in shape. She said that homey was not that in shape. And that you actually had a hard time in training i mean, its amazing what one successful film will do a girl. Shailene is i dont know what she is talking about. They dont have a number we will. All of the stunt sequences when you see trish that, girl is real. So there is one stunt double on wire work the cirque de soleil woman on wire works doing the big crazy jumps and me doing the climbs and the building was rotating. We had a platform on like a hydraulic machine that was moving as like we would fly with wires and you have the runner and it was fascinating. Stunts are amazing. Things haveing been a little action heavy of late, so, yeah staying in shape is kind of a necessity you are shooting so much throughout the year and that probably in itself is training enough, right . Yeah. Its really good to see you again what shows she want with her . Shes the perfect subject talking to the co stars about how strong your character is in this film but they all have their own weaknesses, what would you say is trishs weakness in this film her impressiveness. I think homey can take it down a notch his weakness is that he isnt thinking with his heart and tries to think with his mind and think logically and he end up making a mistake i think all of his kind of macho like stuff is rooted in weakness. Shes the one. Its the only chance we have to rescue whatever little civilization we have left die very gents, we had janine and the wonderful kate wince leapt playing janine and the woman in power. I think they are obviously poe lahr opposites but they manifest with similar qualities. And their need for power. So its going to be fun to see where she goes. The first movie was very fun to do. And it was great. The good thing about a franchise is you are able to you know you are able to do it again, you have the opportunity. And as a result, its much more fun and big, you know and exciting i am not going to fight you. Of course you are not. You are going to fight you. Tayestay tuned. After receiving a letter from john lennon that was lost and never delivered, an aging rockstar embarks on a journey to discover how to stay true to himself in Danny Collins. Hi, i am Annette Benning on made in hollywood. And is you are about to see a scene from a movie i made called Danny Collins. Do you remember doing an interview when you were a kid Time Magazine . You write lie lennon, man john lennon read it and he wrote you a letter in 1971. Can you believe it . Your character tom has this push and pull relationship with Danny Collins, share with me a little bit of the story and how this tugofwar came about Danny Collins when we find him is this world famous, huge huge, huge singer who has been sorts of singing the same song for the last 30 years or so the opening line in text in the movie i think it says the following is based on a true story a little bit. Its kind of based on a true story a little bit. There is a real life musician who 40 years ago was starting out and did an interview and said i am worried about getting rich and famous if my music hits and what that might do to my art. And now 40 years later hes a six some oddyearold man gets basically a knock on his door saying there was a letter written to you from john lennon 40 years ago after you did that interview telling you dont worry about selling out you control your destiny and he didnt get it until he was in his 60s. Dude, Danny Collins, stay true to yourself. Stay true to your music. My phone number is below, we can discuss this. I am a joke i havent written a song in 30 years, i am broken. I have nothing left to break he has a sort of revelation when he turns a certain age and decides that hes not happy. And so he wants to try to go back and redeem himself. And make right. And one things that he does is go back and try to find his son who he has never met before. He respects that he is in there fighting for this relationship and the fact that he wants to get to know her doubter and help her daughter that just opens up her heart in a different way right . With we would all do anything. You expect it to be easy meeting your grown son for the first time hello. Hello. Why are you here . I am just make something changes in high life in a few minutes my husband going to walk through the door and this will be the last time i ever see you you have every right to be angry i dont care enough to be angry. Nice to meet you, have a good life you did most of your scene with his al pacino what was that like . It was really fun. We improvised. We got to rehearse some beforehand and once we were there shooting it, we were improvising quite a bit. Al likes to do that. I like not everybody likes do that. I do and al does so we really had fun. Jersey. Welcome to the hilton. Look who it is i see. So you are staying indefinitely here . Are you on drugs . Currently or in general . Currently no. Dinner . You are asking me to dinner . I think so. I am going to have to decline you are not a fan . Currently or in general . In general no. But we have good banter i love how you took this little concept and made such a moving masterpiece thats nice during this process, what was important to you . You know, i during the making of it. The main thing thats been important for me is al pacino i wrote it for him and he put his faith in me. I had never direct aid film before. I had written a bunch and he said i am in. And i was determined to do right by him. I spent my entire life trying to become the man that you are i dont know what to say i dont know you to say anything i want to you leave you have to deal with it because i am here and then there is dan fogelman, we love him as a script writer and now he comes around first time director. I mean, i am so impressed with just that. What was it like for you to work with him . Its exciting to get to know somebody at this kind of this moment in their career where so many things are becoming possible for him. And he just killed it. He was very calm. Very confident. One of dans talents is he really understands how to observe hes been in this business do a while now as a really successful screen writer and he and al collaborated, he really, really wanted this part for alm he really wanted to write this for al and al and he hit it off very quickly. One more quickly, guys, right back i spent more time in al pacinos backyard than i ever would have thought as a 10 year old that i would have. But every weekend we would go to als while shooting the fill. All the actors would go to als house and sit in his backyard and go over the scenes for the upcoming week we were all so respectful of the script he had written we all sat down together in als backyard every week and worked on it. And dan is so great that he is able to change things, fix things, improve things based on our rehearsal is and turned it around right way and so we could incorporate it in to the next weeks youll still go to heaven and i will still go to hell because you cant buy redemption i found the script had to be very special. And this film is so touching and like this own masterpiece in its own write. What did you find special about this film . Just that its an adult film that you cant easily pin down. You cant say that its a comedy, you cant say its a drama. And its kind of a dieing breed of film. And we have to hold onto it support it, go and see it. It was special. I remember reading it and thinking, this is unusual. So important that movies like Danny Collins are made for us to enjoy. I mean, i personally its just one of my favorite, favorite films ever you cant buy redemption dinner tomorrow . You know what i liked about you, you never give up some dinners are worth fighting for.
