Reporter his life had been full of hope, in the music business but after the accident, he was consumed with despair, every night with the same thought. Please just let me die in my sleep so i dont wake up to be in pain again. Reporter but he eventually decided to get his life back first with physical therapy. I do this almost every day. It helps build up my arms. Reporter doctors say if he could stand pain exercise was helpful and now dave, who is 50, runs every day, hoping to share his message of survival never giving up to others who struggled with physical and mental pain. I dont even think of strength, courage, it just comes down to you either keep moving or you die. Reporter now he is training for his first marathon in new york city. And two weeks later, for the philadelphia marathon. Ill be happy if i finish under five hours which is a slow time but i just want to do it. Reporter you know he will do it. Now dave says running has been especially helpful for him in his struggles with post Traumatic Stress disorder and depression. He is now weaned himself off pain medicines and lost 56 pounds since he started running. Incredible. Talk about an inspiration. A lot of determination. Stephanie, appreciate it.
