The number of infected mosquito pools that we have collected that are infect with west nile virus is actually rather high this year and it is continuing to increase. Reporter doctor Caroline Johnson with the Philadelphia HealthDepartment Says risk of getting a virus is expected to increase over next few weeks mainly because there are so many up affect mosquitoes in the area most people infect do not get sick, about 20 percent have symptoms. This can be a very serious infection. It tends to affect the elderly, most often and vulnerable persons who do not have healthy immune system. The symptoms are neurologic, and so people develop headaches, high fever, confusion. Thirtyfour yearold Keisha Williams died thursday night, she was in Critical Condition for two weeks after she and four others were hit by a carjacked suv in the tioga section of the city. Three of her children were killed in that crash. One woman from the northeast stopped by the crash site after hearing of Keisha Williams death. She passed away and it just floored me and i took my granddaughter from school and said lets go by and just we have to go. This does mean that suspects Jonathan Rosa and Cornelius Crawford will now face four counts of Second Degree murder, and conspiracy. In the meantime a day of summer fun went terribly wrong for three kids at a philadelphia public school. They went for a swim and ended up getting shock. It was just a little shock. If you were a foot away you could still feel it. That came as a surprise to the parks and Recreation Department. I didnt because i really thought they were crazy because they werent holding on to the ladder but swimming in the water. Reporter late friday afternoon peco workers were back at the pool testing the ladder with voltage meters. The kids were shocked at the the ladder around 1 15 friday. Draining it, refilling this pool, and it will not be reopened until we find out what the cause of this incident toys day. Reporter parks and Recreation Department indicates that workers were out here earlier in the day working on the motor and pump. There were a total of 12 children in the pool at the time.
