deal. still governor chris christie is confident it will pass and if it does he has pledged to sign this gas tax hike into law the thought of paying more at the pump isn't sitting well with new jersey drivers. >> it will hurt people because people have have to travel, get back and forth to work and, you know, it is not fair. >> reporter: but 23 cents per gallon tax increase could soon be reality, taking new jersey's gas tax from the secondlyes in the country to the seventh highest. on wednesday, governor chris christie back the state a semmably's plan and voiced confidence that the senate will pass as well. move would set up a $2 billion three-year transportation trust fund over next eight years. >> fact is it will help to improve mass transit in our state, it will help to improve the roadways in our state and help to improve bridgeness our state. that is all a good thing. that is what compromise is all about. >> reporter: gas tax would increase, the state sales tax would decrease for the seven to 6 percent. the deal would lower income tax honorary tire res in, all christie says package will result in a net neutral tax to residents. >> i have never signed a tax increase in the seven years as governor. i'm in the particularly thrilled to have to sign this one but i have said all along if that represents tax fairness, that i would do that. >> reporter: democratic state senator loretta a weinberg says leaders are united against the measure saying the deal is completely different from the senate version. >> thinks the worst kind of government, being done at a really inappropriate time. >> i'm opposed to any new taxes. they will call a victory for bipartisanship, in new jersey legislature but it is just going to be a loss for the common man. >> reporter: still, this is definitely not a done deal just yet. today is final voting session for senate before the end of the fiscal year. if this passes governor chris christie says the gas tax hike portion have the figure out hot gun belongs to. the shooting happened yesterday in the backyard on east walnut lane, police say a group of teams were playing with the gun when a teenage boy was shot in the the face. he died at the hospital. you have to be preparing for your life. my heart dropped, 13, summertime just starting. he didn't even get a chance to start to realize it, his dreams. >> detectives are of texting and driving and impaired driving but safety experts are a at a sum to it talk about another issue they say causes thousands of deaths on the roads: drowsy driving. the nation's first drowsy driving summit is taking place at the university of iowa. troopers and researchers are trying get a better understanding in an effort to reduce the problem. >> drowsy driving has been on the radar progress in vehicle safety making it a good place to lead the initiative. researchers are working on technology to help reduce drowsy driving that includes automatic braking and technology that can
