"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo live outside st. christopher hospital with the latest on her condition. good morning, jan. >> jim, brooke, good morning, that's right, that little girl is behind me here at st. christopher hospital, recovering this morning, however, she is listed in extremely critical condition. she was in a back bedroom at the time of this fire. both her mother, and that off duty philadelphia police officer, tried to rescue them, but this is a fire that landed all three of them in the hospital. >> chopper three, over the 3700 block of heifer lane in northeast philadelphia, thursday evening. fire broke out around 5:30, and a family needed help. their next-door neighbor, a philadelphia police officer, off duty at the time, tried his hardest. >> for the fire department to arrive, we actually had philadelphia police offers here lives across the street, offer duty, attempt to make a rescue, but driven back by the fire and smoke. >> fire crews arrived to find the same heavy smoke and flames being able rescue five year old girl from her back bedroom. she, her mother, and that off duty police officer, were all taken to the hospital with varying degrees of smoke inhalation, the police officer is okay. the mother is now in critical condition. but expected to survive. the little girl, though, is fighting for her life. now, as fire investigators look for a cause, they're also trying to determine if the home had working smoke detectors. >> this incident really great reminder for all of us to ensure that we have working smoke alarms, at every level of our homes, if you don't have one, you can call 311, ask for smoke alarm, we will be out the next day to install that smoke alarm. >> now, this fire is still under investigation. the cause has not yet been determined. but at this point, fire officials say it does not seem like this fire was intentionally set. we are reporting live outside saint christopher hospital, jan carabeo, cbs-3, least ten shots were fired, when two neighbors got into fight at thoron avenue and washington lane. luckily, the bullets did not hit anyone. >> developing right now, in fort hood, texas, five soldiers are dead, four more are missing, after an army truck flipped in a rain-swollen creek, two-ton truck was toppled by swift currents around 11:30 yesterday morning, three bodies recovered from the flood waters shortly afterward, two more bodies were found late last night. three more soldiers are in the hospital in stable condition. we'll have a live report on this story coming up in about 30 minutes. >> two separate crashes involving the military's elite fighter jet performance team. a blue angels fa618 crashed in smyrna, tennessee, near nashville, killing the pilot. he is identified as marine captain jeff who joined the blue angels in 2014. the crash happened shortly after take off as the blue angels were practicing for a weekends air show. pilot after air force thunderbirds jet safely eject from the his jet yesterday, before it crashed in colorado. moments earlier the pilot was flying the jet over a crowd watching president obama's commencement address to cadets at the air force academy. after the accident, the pilot, major alex turner, met the president on the tarmac at a nearby air base. learning more about a woman found dead in a chester county creek on memorial day. twenty-four year old ryan benjamin was a pre-k teach here lived near pottstown, spent time with friends in west chester. authorities say benjamin died before she was dumped in the water in east
