welcome america celebration. they'll be given out for free at two locations national constitution lawn and independent visitor's center. well, still ahead on "eyewitness news," terrifying tornadoes. >> this is just one of the twisters that touched down in the nation's heartland. we'll show you the damage it left behind. katie. >> thankfully guys it does not appear so we've got severe weather in our outlook. jumping ahead to the saturday, sunday time frame, it is about to get hot and steamy folks. daytime highs into the 90's to kick off this weekend and we will also see a few spotty showers or thunderstorms especially p.m. hours of saturday. generally sunday is looking sunny just an off chance for a stray shower or storm but we do have more heat in this forecast to tell you >> welcome back. more than 20 large wildfires continue to rage out west. >> now the flames are getting very close to some homes there. several of those homes in upscale burbank california are under mandatory evacuation o flames have been spotted near backyards. >> severe storms sweep through the midwest. this just one of the tornadoes that touched down in southwest iowa yesterday. the storms ripped through some homes and badly damaged other os. more storms are expected to bring large hail and heavy rain today. >> we've had some wild weather recently. >> right, definitely. this is the time of year for sure that this part of the world tends to see more severe weather because long story short, in this season in the summer the jet stream lifts north. >> uh-huh. >> and what that really means is that you've got more heat to work with. you see these storms track a little bit closer to home and you can see a lot of nasty storms develop as a result. that's the long and short of it. i don't think we're looking at any major severe threats in the days ahead which is fantastic news. heat and humidity are something -- are a few things that are going to start to ramp up on us already beginning to take place as we speak. we'll show you what's going on and at the moment, you know, we're finding temperatures where they should be. our projected high is pow 88 degrees today. average high on this day of the year is 86 so, yes, a little bit above average but not too much. within reason here. july 29th your average high is at its peak for the summer. that's when you tend to find the hottest stretch, end of july, august and we start to see averages dropping off in the northeast really everywhere. sort that of delayed reaction sometimes, the ocean water tends to warm up a little later just because it's water it takes longer to do that but that's also when you start to see hurricanes become more prominent. looking back at storm scan3 any clouds we had this morning have had a chance to thin out. you still have a patch of clouds here and there. generally it is sum mee and warm for the rest of the afternoon. humidity levels still quite low in in all but that's something that's going to creep up here on you. in fact dewpoints across southern delaware, southern new jersey are at the point where it starts to feel a little seem steamy. by the time we hit saturday you're pretty much bordering on if not actually feeling oppressive when you factor in that humidity so that's one of the key things you need to think about when you go outside and decide that you're going to spend multiple hours at the pool, at the beach, at a barbecue this weekend. take care of yourself but the water looks like it will operate low 80's, atlantic city and wildwood upper 70's and comfortable low 70's in mount pocono right now. speaking of the area beaches a snapshot of the current view here in rehoboth, how many hundreds of umbrellas are lining this beach right now. beautiful looking afternoon for that you but it's worth a mention we do have a moderate risk of rip currents at the shore line today so if you are going to take a dip, going out there this afternoon make sure you swim near a lifeguard. if you're just going to keep it pool side, great afternoon a little stem mee but not oppressive yet. make sure the sun block ready to go, spf30 or higher. u.v. index is up at a nine. elsewhere around the region low 80's in the shore, great looking boat day. warming up though in the poconos. we hit the upper 70's there. as we take a look at your 7a, it's a nice long weekend for a lot of you, we'll be in the 90's for a handful of days and see upper 80's towards the holiday. scattered showers or thunderstorms at absolute worst and i think especially p.m. hours saturday is our best chance for that. otherwise we're talking stray hit or miss variety here of any wet weather so if you have outdoor plans keep them. keep your eyes checking for thunder. >> for late june early july i'll take it. >> this is what you want. >> except if you're jim donovan. >> i don't like humidity, i don't know what to tell you, i'm sorry. >> i'm always the optimist. >> pandemonium times two. >> well, updating our breaking news this afternoon. seth williams has pleaded guilty to a single count of bribery in his federal corruption trial and stepped down as philadelphia's district given were inch to twins. >> a boy an girl were born tuesday. momma panda cuddle them. researchers say they seem healthy so far. >> so cute. >> and that's "eyewitness news" for today at noon. i'm jim
