center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> severe thunderstorms move throughout the delaware valley causing a path of destruction and more are expected from the weekend is over. good evening, i'm natasha brown. thanks for joining us. folks were outside enjoying a hot sunny saturday and then they had to run for cover pretty quickly when those storms actually rolled through earlier. meteorologist chelsea ingram is in the weather center tracking more storms that may be on the way. chelsea. >> that's right, natasha. we had some severe weather earlier this evening. right now we're dealing with rain and showers still lingering across the delaware valley. the majority of the convection, the convective storms and stronger storms are down to our south into maryland and maryland's eastern shore. north of mercer county we're dealing with heavier downpours on into new jersey and then some lighter rain for places like trenton bridgewater. because of that we have some flooding that is going on mainly just some minor flooding. we have a flood advisory that's been issued. this is for bucks, hunterdon mercer and somerset counties until 2:45. we have multiple storm reports from berks county down into camden and burlington counties in new jersey. we had a report of some flooding in phoenixville, some hail in camden county and then also reports of multiple trees down across the way. plenty of rain fell with this storm that moved through earlier today. around 2-inches in reading and trenton around 1.66 and just under a inch and a quarter for valley forge and that was within the past six hours. the rain helped to knock temperatures back a little bit to around 82 degrees in philadelphia, 71 reading, seventy nine wilmington. i'll let you know when we get real relief from the heat and humidity coming up in just a bit. back to you. >> chelsea thank you. the storm did leave a trail of damage in camden, new jersey. strong winds blew a large tree onto a mobile home on mount ephraim avenue before 7 o'clock tonight. neighbors say the family who lives in that mobile home was not inside when the tree came crashing down. >> when i came here and i see this i was like thank god you take care of us over there on the seaside 'cause nothing happened but over here thank god too nobody was in the house because this lady got little kids and who knows what would have happened. >> well, authorities do say that no one was injured by the fallen tree. also tonight family and friends are remembering a couple shot and killed in frankford. police say they know who did it but nearly a week into the investigation no charges have been filed just yet. "eyewitness news" reporter alycia nieves is live at police headquarters with the very latest. alycia. >> reporter: well, natasha, police are saying this is still an ongoing investigation. they had taken a neighbor into custody who admitted to shooting and killing the couple last weekend but he has since been released, that is something the family of the couple killed are struggling with tonight. more than 100 people outside a home along james street in the frankford section of philadelphia for a vigil that is also a plea for justice. >> it's a tragedy and it should have never happened. >> reporter: last sunday 45-year-old bob depaul and his girlfriend 42-year-old august dempsey were shot and killed a few feet from his home. >> she is the sweetest outgoing most heartwarming person ever. >> reporter: these are the two sons misdemeanor see leaves -- missdempsey leaves behind. >> this is the hardest thing of my entire life. i now have to step up and take care of the responsibilities that my mother did. >> reporter: they are trying to stay strong only a new feet away from where a man shot their mother and her boyfriend in the back of his head. >> i don't understand why he's still here in his house, not in jail because it is not self-defense. it's just strictly murder. >> reporter: the neighbor told police the couple had tried to climb his fence and although he was taken into custody initially, he has not been charged with the couple's deaths. >> my mom would never climb a fence. she would never talk down to anybody. she would never provoke any violence 'cause she knows she would have to make it home to me and my brother. >> reporter: the young boys grieving for their mothers. others said they tried to deescalate the growing tension with their neighbor. >> bob next door the boyfriend went over and talked to a cop and said i have a problem with my neighbor. the cop did not come over right away. next thing you know he heard shots. >> reporter: and the family of that couple killed say they plan to go to the district attorney's office monday morning and demand charges been filed if they are not those two brothers say they're going to stand outside that home every day until they say justice is served. reporting live outside philadelphia police headquarters, alycia nieves, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> all right, alycia, thank you so much. also tonight a man is in critical condition after a shooting in philadelphia's feltonville section. police say it happened about 3::this morning near rockland street and rising sun avenue. officers found a man in front of the feltonville dance hall who had been shot twice in his arm an once in the stomach. investigators are looking at nearby surveillance video that may have captured the shooting. investigators are now trying to determine what led to a shooting of a man and a teenageer in wilmington. it happened on the 1300 block of east 27th street just before 12:30 this morning. at the scene they found a 15-year-old girl and a 30-year-old man both with gunshot wounds. the two victims are stable. no arrests so far in this case. and today a funeral service was held for one of the victims of the recent bucks county killings. family and friends all paid their respects to dean finocchiaro at the dougherty funeral home in levittown. last week, the 19-year-old from middletown township was found shot and buried along with three other young men on a solebury township farm. two suspects are now charged in the killings. biologists tracking the migration of great white sharks say the largest male ever tagged in the north atlantic is just off the coast of new jersey right now. his name is hilton named after where he was tagged last march in hilton head south carolina. cleve bryan has more on hilton and our fascination with sharks. >> reporter: eyes wide and cameras ready when people come face to face with sharks at camden's adventure aquarium. do you like sharks. >> yes. learn about local species like sand tigers another larger type of shark has people talking this weekend. a great white named hilton which was tagged bite research group o search has been swimming 5275 miles off the jersey shore the last few days. >> it's cool he's off our coast now. >> reporter: biologist matt and other aquarium staff went out with o search looking for great whites near the delaware bay. no luck but he's glad people are following hilton on social media and taking an interest in sharks. >> what we try to do here is teach them that sharks, they're not out to eat people, we're far more dangerous to sharks than they are to us. >> reporter: if you would like to get close to a shark besides behind glass your best bet is the to come here on the shark bridge at the adventure aquarium. was it scary. >> it was scary. i'm a coward. >> reporter: landon wagner. >> they try to get you but you have to run really fast to get away. >> reporter: you don't go near great [laughter] >> reporter: a personal favorite but not the material experts recommend. in camden cleve bryan cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> all right, well, from sharks to the fire fight that is happening now. working now to fully gain control of a forest fire in burlington county, the fire patel is happening in wharton state forest near batsto village. this forest fire began on thursday. it's grown to 3500 acres at this point. at last check, the flames are 100 percent contained but authorities say only 30 percent of the fire is under control. right now the fire lines are holding and residents and campers are thankful no structures are in danger. >> it was coming up in a very broad span and going straight up into the sky. >> it's always a shame to lose our natural environment that we need so dearly. >> well, the cause of the forest fire is still under investigation. also tonight, president trump is slamming the media over a controversial new report. it says attorney general jeff sessions talked about the presidential election with the russian ambassador to the u.s. during the campaign. cbs news correspondent weijia jiang has details now from the white house. >> reporter: president trump started his saturday firing off 10 tweets, all before 9:00 a.m. in one, he bashed a new report from the washington post confirmed by cbs news that u.s. intelligence intercepts show attorney general jeff sessions discussed campaign related matters with russian ambassador sergei kislyak before the 2016 presidential election. the president did not challenge the content of the story but called it a new intelligence leak. for his part sessions has frequently denied talking to moscow. >> let me be clear. i never had meetings with russian operatives or russian intermediaries about the trump campaign. >> reporter: sessions now says he never had any conversations about russian interference with the campaign. congress is pushing ahead with new legislation to punish russia for its meddling with economic sanctions. the bill has bipartisan support is that expected to pass quickly. the trump administration has not issued a formal veto threat but several officials including secretary of state rex tillerson has spoken out about the legislation. >> if a fight does come it will always end the same way. we will win win win. >> reporter: the president praised american military during the commissioning ceremony for america's newest aircraft carrier the u.s.s. gerald r. ford. weijia jiang for cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> well, a north philadelphia neighborhood meantime served as the backdrop for a big community day celebration today. the hope partnership for education hosted the party for its middle school students, faculty and staff. "eyewitness news" here at 11th and hunting in fairhill. hope partnership's goal is to break the cycle of poverty through education. members of the philadelphia police and fire department also spent time out there with the kids today. stay with us everyone. still ahead on "eyewitness news" a group of florida teenagers recorded man drowning while laughing and posting it to social media. the charges those teens are now facing. plus, the investigation continues into the deadly police-involved shooting in minnesota. meanwhile frustrations are growing as a high ranking officer is forced out of a job. and should internet gambling be banned in the u.s.? the political ally who says no and the bill he's >> welcome back. we're following breaking news right now. a child was shot by a stray bullet in chester delaware county. the shooting happened on the 3400 block of township line road just before 10 o'clock. police tell "eyewitness news" the victim is a boy. he was rushed to crozer chester medical center. there's no word on his condition just yet. police are investigating what led to the shooting tonight. we're going to stay on top of this breaking story. we'll bring you the latest online as well, cbsphilly.com. police in florida meantime they're looking for ways to charge five teenagers who taunted a drowning man. they shot video of his final moments instead of helping to rescue him. the boys ages 14 to 16 can be heard laughing as jamel dunn struggles to stay afloat on a pond in cocoa on july 9. family members reported dunn missing three days later. the teens stayed quiet so authorities didn't know where to look. authorities want those teens charged with a crime of not reporting a death to the medical examiner. >> what this comes down to is it's a moral issue. what you watch when you watch that video is just again like i said i don't know -- i've been in law enforcement for 27 years and i don't know as i can really sit here and describe it, i really can't. >> the state of florida currently does not have a law where a citizen is obligated to render aid for anyone in distress or call for help. now the mayor of minneapolis says that she is not resigning in the wake of the controversial shooting death of an unarmed woman. mayor betsy hodges may her statement after the city's police chief did resign yesterday. the move came less than a week after a city officer shot and killed justine damond. she had called officers to her home for help when officer mohammed noor shot and killed her. that shooting is still under investigation. and internet gambling in the u.s. hangs in the balance right now but governor chris christie is urging the president not to ban it. online gambling has helped revive atlantic city's struggling casino industry. on friday governor christie signed a bill calling on trump and congress not to enact a nationwide ban on internet games. new jersey, delaware and nevada are the only states that offer internet gambling. and members of a facebook group of delaware rockers are painting rocks. they're leaving them for others to find all around the state. take a look at what they're doing here of the some of the rocks that have been found so far. they've been posted to the delaware rock facebook page. carmen dougherty of bear says the purpose is to just spread a little joy. she was inspired by a similar group that left a rock her discovered at disney world. if you see a painted rock around delaware somewhere post a picture to the facebook page. bigger and more diverse than ever before today marked the 25th annual islamic heritage festival. it featured games arts and crafts a health and wellness fair. chop shoppers were able to browse markets and bazaars. great day earlier today and then those storms rolled through. >> that's right. we needed those to break the back of this heat and i think we'll finally break the heat wave as we head into tomorrow. still going to be hot, though. i'll let you know when real relief arrives in your seven day. we had severe thunderstorms that rolled through earlier this evening. now we're dealing with some showery action across the dell fifty seven the majority of the stronger storms are located well down to our south into maryland and southern delaware but we're dealing with heavier downpours into northern mercer county just north of trenton and some showery action also into northern new jersey but in some of these locations we've already seen around one to 2 inches of rain so we have a flood advisory issued for bucks hunterdon mercer and somerset counties until 2:45. all these areas you see highlighted in green. some of niece areas have already picked up over an inch of rain so it's easy to see some minor flooding as a possibility as we head into the next several hours especially in those poor drainage areas. the official high temperature today in philadelphia was 93 degrees. but the rain moved in and that did help to break the back of this heat that we've been dealing with. 82 now in philadelphia. we're down into the 70's, some rain cooled air for reading allentown right around 71 degrees. it's 75 in trenton, 77 in millville, 81 degrees down the shore in atlantic city. it is 77 degrees right now in wildwood. dewpoints are still really elevated, in the 60's and 70's. we have tons of moisture in the atmosphere. that's going to be the case as we head into tomorrow. we'll have the risk for more showers and possibly stronger thunderstorms and it's going to feel uncomfortable as we head into your saturday because of those dewpoints. temperatures are going to be slightly lower in the 80's. with the dewpoints high it's still going to feel rather warm out there. we'll be steamy starting out your work week on monday and we get nice relief from both the heat and humidity as we head into your tuesday. about time, right? things rather quiet as we head into the overnight hours tonight into tomorrow morning. starting off the day with a lot in the way of cloud cover and then sunday afternoon into the evening hours we'll see a better chance for more showers and maybe stronger thunderstorms to roll on through the region and because of that the storm prediction center once again has us under the slight risk category for severe weather so that risk area has shifted a little bit further south compared to what we dealt with today. we'll have strong damaging winds and heavy downpours with all of the moisture we have in the air. down the shore a morning shower or storm 87 degrees. 85 on monday with a thundershower possible and then improving weather by your tuesday, sunshine, 82 degrees. that should be a rather nice beach day. here's your forecast for tonight. in philadelphia, cloudy with a shower or a thunderstorm 74 degrees for that overnight low temperature. as we head into tomorrow 87 degrees, we'll be mostly cloudy with a shower or a thunderstorm. i think the better chance is going to be as we head into the late afternoon and evening hours. that's going to be the main time frame we'll have to watch out especially for those stronger storms. your eyewitness weather seven-day forecast looks like this. looking much better as we head into tuesday, 86. 84 by wednesday. then we're in the 80's for the rest of the seven-day forecast. >> he can okay. anything sounds better than what we've been dealing [laughter] >> reporter: a personal favorite but not the material experts recommend. in camden cleve bryan cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> all right, well, from sharks to the fire fight that is happening now. working now to fully gain control of a forest fire in burlington county, the fire patel is happening in wharton state forest near batsto village. this forest fire began on thursday. it's grown to 3500 acres at this point. at last check, the flames are 100 percent contained but authorities say only 30 percent of the fire is under control. right now the fire lines are holding and residents and campers are thankful no structures are in danger. >> it was coming up in a very broad span and going straight up into the sky. >> it's always a shame to lose our natural environment that we need so dearly. >> well, the cause of the forest fire is still under investigation. also tonight, president trump is slamming the media over a controversial new report. it says attorney general jeff sessions talked about the presidential election with the russian ambassador to the u.s. during the campaign. cbs news correspondent weijia jiang has details now from the white house. >> reporter: president trump started his saturday firing off 10 tweets, all before 9:00 a.m. in one, he bashed a new report from the washington post confirmed by cbs news that u.s. intelligence intercepts show attorney general jeff sessions discussed campaign related matters with russian ambassador sergei kislyak before the 2016 presidential election. the president did not challenge the content of the story but called it a new intelligence leak. for his part sessions has frequently denied talking to moscow. >> let me be clear. i never had meetings with russian operatives or russian intermediaries about the trump campaign. >> reporter: sessions now says he never had any conversations about russian interference with the campaign. congress is pushing ahead with new legislation to punish russia for its meddling with economic sanctions. the bill has bipartisan support is that expected to pass quickly. the trump administration has not issued a formal veto threat but several officials including secretary of state rex tillerson has spoken out about the legislation. >> if a fight does come it will always end the same way. we will win win win. >> reporter: the president praised american military during the commissioning ceremony for america's newest aircraft carrier the u.s.s. gerald r. ford. weijia jiang for cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> well, a north philadelphia neighborhood meantime served as the backdrop for a big community day celebration today. the hope partnership for education hosted the party for its middle school students, faculty and staff. bullet in chester delaware county. the shooting happened on the 3400 block of township line road just before 10 o'clock. police tell "eyewitness news" the victim is a boy. he was rushed to crozer chester medical center. there's no word on his condition just yet. police are investigating what led to the shooting tonight. we're going to stay on top of this breaking story. we'll bring you the latest online as well, cbsphilly.com. police in florida meantime they're looking for ways to charge five teenagers who taunted a drowning man. they shot video of his final moments instead of helping to rescue him. the boys ages 14 to 16 can be heard laughing as jamel dunn struggles to stay afloat on a pond in cocoa on july 9. family members reported dunn missing three days later. the teens stayed quiet so authorities didn't know where to look. authorities want those teens charged with a crime of not reporting a death to the medical examiner. >> what this comes down to is it's a moral issue. >> the state of florida currently does not have a law where a citizen is obligated to render aid for anyone in distress or call for help. now the mayor of minneapolis says that she is not resigning in the wake of the controversial shooting death of an unarmed woman. mayor betsy hodges may her statement after the city's police chief did resign yesterday. the move came less than a week after a city officer shot and killed justine damond. she had called officers to her home for help when officer mohammed noor shot and killed her. that shooting is still under investigation. and internet gambling in the u.s. hangs in the balance right now but governor chris christie is urging the president not to ban it. online gambling has helped revive atlantic city's struggling casino industry. on friday governor christie signed a bill calling on trump and congress not to enact a nationwide ban on internet games. new jersey, delaware and nevada are the only states that offer internet gambling. and members of a facebook group of delaware rockers are painting rocks. they're leaving them for others to find all around the state. take a look at what they're doing here of the some of the rocks that stronger storms are located well down to our south into maryland and southern delaware but we're dealing with heavier downpours into northern mercer county just north of trenton and some showery action also into northern new jersey but in some of these locations we've already seen around one to 2 inches of rain so we have a flood advisory issued for bucks hunterdon mercer and somerset counties until 2:45. all these areas you see highlighted in green. some of niece areas have already picked up over an inch of rain so it's easy to see some minor flooding as a possibility as we head into the next several hours especially in those poor drainage areas. the official high temperature today in philadelphia was 93 degrees. but the rain moved in and that did help to break the back of this heat that we've been dealing with. 82 now in philadelphia. we're down into the 70's, some rain cooled air for reading allentown right around 71 degrees. it's 75 in trenton, 77 in millville, 81 degrees down the shore in atlantic city. it is 77 degrees right now in wildwood. dewpoints are still really elevated, in the 60's and 70's. we have tons of moisture in the atmosphere. that's going to be the case as we head into tomorrow. we'll have the risk for more showers and possibly stronger thunderstorms and it's going to feel uncomfortable as we head into your saturday because of those dewpoints. temperatures are going to be slightly lower in the 80's. with the dewpoints high it's still going to feel rather warm out there. we'll be steamy starting out your work week on monday and we get nice relief from both the heat and humidity as we head into your tuesday. about time, right? things rather quiet as we head into the overnight hours tonight into tomorrow morning. starting off the day with a lot in the way of cloud cover and then sunday afternoon into the evening hours we'll see a better chance for more showers and maybe stronger thunderstorms to roll on through the region and because of that the storm prediction center once again has us under the slight risk category for severe weather so that risk area has shifted a little bit further south compared to what we dealt with today. we'll have strong damaging winds and heavy downpours with all of the moisture we have in the air. down the shore a morning shower or storm 87 degrees. 85 on monday with a thundershower possible and then improving weather by your tuesday, sunshine, 82 degrees. that should be a rather nice beach day. here's your forecast for tonight. in philadelphia, cloudy with a shower or a thunderstorm 74 degrees for that overnight low temperature. as we head into tomorrow 87 degrees, we'll be mostly cloudy with a shower or a thunderstorm. i think the better chance is going to be as we head into the late afternoon and evening hours. that's going to be the main time frame we'll have to watch out especially for those stronger storms. your eyewitness weather seven-day forecast looks like this.
