>> ♪ >> live from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news" at 11:00. >> right now at 11 o'clock, new information in a shocking case that's now captured the national attention. investigators detailed the living conditions for 12 girls who were rescued from this house this week in bucks county. good evening, everyone, i'm natasha brown. thank you so much for joining us. police tour the feasterville home -- tore the feasterville home apart today. they say the house on the 400 block of old street road was designed to be totally self-sufficient so the homeownerrer never had to let anyone in or out. anita oh is live in feasterville with the latest developments. >> reporter: natasha, investigators spent much of the day combing through this home. they also had cadaver dogs searching the property for potential bodies that may be buried there. they found nothing but they say that police did discover 12 young girls living in the basement on air mattresses even though the homeownerrer had previously told neighbors no children lived there. he's now being charged with sex assault. >> they were living down in the basement. they were hiding in the chicken coop. >> reporter: that's the living condition investigators found 12 young children living in inside this feasterville home. none were enrolled in school and police have not found birth certificates for any of the children. >> you look at the house. one window boarded up, these are strange. the homeownerrer 51-year-old lee kaplan faces a multitude of charges including sexual assault after police say he fathered two of those children with the eldest girl who was only 14 when she first concealed she's now 18. >> mr. kaplan had her living there as some kind of repayment for a financial situation. >> reporter: the girl's parents daniel and savilla stoltzfus were part of the amish commute. they gifted their daughter to kaplan and told police they thought it was legal after researching it online. >> flabbergasted. >> kaplan's neighbors are still in shock. >> it makes me feel terrible that i'm two doors away and i didn't know this was going on. >> reporter: inside the home investigators found an elaborate train set worth tens of thousands of dollars along with homework and musical instruments. >> apparently wanted to be self-sufficient. there's cases of canned food in the basement, he had a chicken coop with a lot of chickens in it. >> reporter: though the investigation is far from over neighbors say they're relieved the children are safe. >> this is it finally, enough. like catch this guy. >> reporter: and natasha, because there were no birth certificates found it's difficult to tell who those 10 other children are and whether they're related. moon time tone death. 62-year-old denise barger is a recent widow and was found dead friday in tredyffrin township. a relative of the victim made the horrifying discovery on heather stone drive. authorities are investigating the case as a homicide at this point and are asking anyone with information to please contact police right away. one man killed, another is fighting for his life at this hour after being shot in overbrook. police say both victims, 26-year-old men were shot just before 3 o'clock this afternoon on the 1000 block of edgemoor road. the man killed was pronounced dead at the hospital. the other victim is in critical condition. no arrests have been made just yet. a violent assault in feltonville sends one man to the hospital. police say a man in his 30's was slashed in the face in broad daylight this afternoon at mascher street and wyoming avenue. the victim is in critical condition at temple hospital. the suspect is in police custody. there's no word yet on a motive. and we do have a sad update to bring you tonight. animal rights activist george bengal has passed away. he was the pennsylvania spca's director of humane law enforcement. before that he was a philadelphia police officer and a vietnam war vet. just last month he was honored by the pspca after revealing he had terminal cancer. bengal died today surrounded by his family. he was 69 years old and we will certainly miss him. now to the very latest in the massacre in florida. orlando's professional soccer team gave a touching tribute to the victims at the game tonight. the community is determined to stay strong as the victims' families bid a final farewell during funeral services. correspondent weijia jiang reports from orlando. >> reporter: the crowd at orlando's camping world stadium sent a powerful message by wearing the colors of the rainbow. >> hopefully it shows unity and that we're there for the families and victims. that we stand with them. >> reporter: the city's professional soccer team hosted the first major sporting event since the massacre at a gay nightclub last week. katie bradley brought her two little boys with a message in mind. >> we're in a city that we won't give into terrorism. so, it means a lot. >> reporter: the tribute here at the soccer stayed william was one of many events scheduled throughout the weekend offering support to victims' families as they lay their loved ones to rest. >> everyone's coming together whether it was people that knew them or nottism hundreds stood outside the funeral for christopher line nan. the 32-year-old and his partner were both killed. volunteers wore massive angel wings to shield mourners from protestors. >> to say that love wins, that angels win. >> reporter: grief rippled across puerto rico, too. nearly half of the 49 victims were puerto rican including 28-year-old angel padro. his father says now god has a new angel. weijia jiang for cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> the family of a nebraska toddler killed by an alligator at a disney resort speaking out again tonight n a statement matt and melissa graves say they are overwhelmed with support and love. they continue with we understand the public's interest but as we move forward this weekend, we ask for and appreciate the privacy we need to lay our son to rest. autopsy results say two-year-old lane graves died from drowning and traumatic injuries. disney is now adding warning signs and temporary barriers to their beach areas. and tonight investigators are trying to figure out what caused a van crash that left six people dead in virginia. this happened early this morning on i-95 in bowling green. the van was carrying 16 people. it rolled over several times. police say the victims which include one juvenile were thrown from the van. the other passengers were also injured. and campaign 2016 news presumptive republican nominee donald trump wrapped up a rally in arizona. earlier today he addressed rumors that the gop will try to deny him the nomination at next month's convention. trump says despite those reports he's not concerned. >> and now you have a couple of guys that were badly defeated and they're trying to organize maybe like a little bit of a delegate revolt. the republican national committee they put out a statement you can't do it. it's not legal. you can can't do it. you're not allowed to do it. >> trump's comments about muslims and comments about a mexican judge have turned some of his party's members against him. now democrats also took aim at trump today. massachusetts senator elizabeth warren blasted the businessman at the new hampshire democratic state convention. warren who has endorsed and is now actively campaigning for hillary clinton didn't hold back. >> every day it becomes clearer that he is a thin skinned racist bully. and every day it becomes clearer he will never be president of the united states. >> warren has met with clinton in recent days fueling speculation that clinton will tap her for vice president. in a recent bloomberg poll more than a third of clinton supporters say warren should be her vp. exciting news for the clintons this weekend as they welcome a new addition to the family. chelsea delivered her second child according to social media accounts. the former first daughter tweeted "mark and i are overwhelmed with gratitude and love as we celebrate the birth of our "eyewitness news." firefighters caught a bit of a break today battling this massive wildfire in santa barbara california. they were expecting high winds that never materialized and allowed them to get some of this blaze under control at least 45 percent contained. forecasters say high winds could return coupled with temperatures in the 90's. hundreds of homes are at risk and 7,000 acres have already burned. as team u.s.a. meantime prepares for the upcoming summer olympics the host city has declared a financial emergency. the governor of rio de janeiro brazil says he needs money from the country's federal government to avoid a "total collapse of public services during the games." declining oil prices have plunged rio into its worst recession since the 13 flirt. brazil is grappling with a political crisis. the president was suspended amid a corruption investigation. rio insists everything will be ready to go on august 5th when the games begin. very scary moments for a pilot after a small plane came crashing down offer the coast of rhode island. the pilot was the only person on board. he was rescued. one eyewitness who was boating at the time describes the moment he saw the plane which almost hit his boat. >> i noticed up ahead of me there was a plane and the plane was kind of coming at me and i looked and i said that must be a remote control plane. he ended up crashing maybe a hundred feet off the beach. >> well, if this had happened a day before the pilot may not have been so lucky. the crash was on the first day of the season that lifeguards were back on duty. the pilot is expected to be okay. and president barack obama and his family are spending the weekend in yosemite national park in california. 4 million people visit yosemite every year. during his remarks today president obama talked about the need to protect and preserve our parks. to that end he says climate change is posing a huge challenge. >> make no mistake climate change is no longer just a threat. it's already a reality. >> the first family's visit is in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the national park service. gruesome discovery on the shores of a delaware beach. residents find a giant beached whale. this is the scene north of bethany beach. that's a 33-foot long, 33,000-pound humpback whale. authorities used a bull dozer to move the giant mammal. marine biologists are performing a necropsy to try to figure out what killed the animal. and some very deserving children had their days brightened up quite a bit after receiving a very special gift today. "eyewitness news" at the irish pub in center city philadelphia where three kids with disabilities were given adaptive bicycles. the money raised in last year's tour de shore made those gifts possible for the those children. thousands of folks came out to philadelphia today for juneteenth the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the u.s. >> ♪ "eyewitness news" at the bar raid hosted by muse ick producer and song writer kenny gamble and the philadelphia community of leaders. mayor jim can kenny was there. he says this event is important to show the true history of our country and our city. >> it wasn't just white european males who made this country it was many people made this country and i think that we need to acknowledge the fact that they were there and they contributed and they were heroic and without them this country wouldn't be as far along as it is now. >> the event celebrates african-american freedom and achievement and sheds light on the struggles of enslaved africans in america. juneteenth dates back to 1865. a local teenaged boy fighting cancer gets the birthday wish of a lifetime. this is dan hill. he turned 16 today. happy birth day. he's a huge philly sports fan and at a he had the chance to the a tend the phillies game with 25 of his closest friends. the best part about it, he got to meet some players as well before the first pitch along with other surprises. dan says it was all a once in a lifetime experience. >> i have all my friends and family here, coaches, anyone who has really been great to me these past couple years. definitely the best birthday. >> this was all made possible through a project called the youth cancer baseball tour. the program takes hundreds of kids and their families dealing with childhood cancer to mlb games. very nice and a beautiful day to be out there at the ballpark. hopefully it holds up for tomorrow, dad's at any. >> dad's days, another phillies game heading to the bank with dad having everybody out. a really nice evening right now. what better place to spend it than down the shore. taking a live look on skycam3 at the boardwalk, ocean city new jersey, a lot of people out enjoying the conditions. temperatures a little bit cooler at our shore points thanks to the sea breeze but still a very pleasant saturday evening and temperatures right now in the city, we are at 70 degrees currently, a beautiful view of center city philadelphia. southwesterly winds at around 7 miles per hour. and temperatures are mild, really all across the delaware valley at this late hour. 70 in allentown, still at 73 in reading. as i mentioned cooler at our shore points. might be reaching for maybe a little light sweater. 61 degrees in cape may, 65 stone harbor and 68 degrees in ocean city and checking in live with your neighborhood network temperatures consistent, some upper 60's, some low 70's. we have 69 degrees at the eagles novacare complex in philadelphia and 70 degrees in ambler. winds are generally light to calm. storm scan3 showing us a bunch of nothing, just a couple of high clouds building in but that is creating a nice halo around the almost full moon. full moon returns tomorrow night into early monday. no weather systems up wind, no inclement weather anywhere near us in the delaware valley as we have high pressure in control but with high pressure we get that sinking air. that's good for sunshine but it is bad sometimes for air quality especially when you have the sunshine to boot and we do have an air quality alert in effect for much of the delaware valley for tomorrow unhealthy for sensitive groups so a good time to take it easy and, yes, maybe at the ballpark. first pitch is at 1:35, the phils take on the diamondbacks, 86 degrees for first pitch. we'll have that bright sunshine so you definitely need the sunscreen along with you. we are going to have the heat tomorrow but not so much the humidity. dewpoints right now are relatively tame around the vest degree mark, in the middle 50's up towards the lehigh valley so dewpoints allowing to it feel pretty comfortable certainly by june standards but as we head into the next couple of days that is not going to be the case. as we head into monday dewpoints climb up into that that humid feel. and as we head into tuesday combining it with serious heat it will feel down right steamy but then relief as we head into midweek with dewpoints falling back again. overnight feeling nice, keep the windows opened, mostly clear and pleasant, 61 degrees. dad's day tomorrow going to be a hot one, up to 88 degrees, abundant sunshine with southwesterly winds around five to 10 miles per hour and it's definitely going to be toasty north and west of the city in the lehigh valley up to 90 trees, berks county heading up towards some low 90's. and down the shore because of that sea breeze we'll top at 80 degrees in ac and 78 in wildwood. heat is on in the city and surrounding counties as we head into monday, 90 trees, another round of sunshine. steamy sunshine, though, as we ring in the summer season. tuesday is our next chance of storms, scattered storms in the forecast. another very steamy day, probably the steamest of the next seven, 90 degrees the high temperature. we could have a few showers and storms in the morning. better chance i think in the afternoon. then we'll start to clear things out as we head into wednesday and thursday, a very nice looking midweek. sunshine, lower humidity and a pair of 82's. >> that's so nice. father's day is going to be nice. i should have big week ahead for the flyers as the nhl draft starts friday night in buffalo. they surprised everyone by making the playoffs last season then losing to the caps in six games. they have the 18th pick in the first round. hextall team loaded with defensive prospect. will he go with a forward? >> we've got more defense prospects than we do forward prospects and that's -- it's no different last year, we -- you know, we didn't have a lot of goalies, so we loaded up last year little more than i anticipated and this year there's a little bit of a focus on forwards for sure. now, that doesn't mean we're not going to pick defense men. >> now to the nba. season will come to an end tomorrow, game seven between the cavs and warriors in oakland. cleveland could be the first team in nba history to come back from a flea-one deficit in the finals but win the championship. lebron james has scored 82 points in the last two games to force a game seven. the warriors look to cap off a historic season after winning 73 regular season games. steph curry is helping to rebound after getting thrown out thursday night. today he was asked about his wife's tweet after game six wherwhere she said the game
