>> greg: hauschka from 58 yards. on the way. just short. that will result in some really good field position for the san diego chargers. >> phil: trying to win the game. he got underneath that. you can tell how hard the football is spinning so he kicked it a little too low on the football. made it spin too hard and took some of the yardage off of it. >> greg: san diego with the ball at their own 48 yard line and 3:46 to play. a chance to run out the clock. >> phil: field position, make it difficult, no matter if you get a first down for seattle to drive it downfield. >> greg: jahwan edwards in the backfield. edwards with the handoff. he's going to get nailed and lose about three on the play. >> greg: second and 13 now. >> greg: we come up on three minutes to play. >> greg: on the ground again with edwards. it's been a couple of really huge plays tonight. one on each side. this is tyler lockett. this is as good a play as you might see any time during the regular season. brandon oliver on the receiving end. stiff arm breaks it free down the sideline. 135 rushing yards for the chargers to 105 for seattle. the numbers don't always tell the story but they would say more than a two-point san diego lead. >> phil: they would. special teams. we've seen that already how that evens things out as i've watched those replays, tyler lockett, i think they're going to find a way to put him in the offense more, don't you think? pete carroll said it, since he's a rookie they're doing it slowly, with the burst he has, the way he can catch the football and the way he runs in the open field you've got to give him as many chances as possible. >> greg: seattle with a chance to get the ball back. third and 13. sorensen running out of time and he goes down at the 41. that's greg scruggs, fourth-year d lineman out of louisville. >> phil: good protection but scruggs just stays with it. cope hustling. sorensen. break the pocket. third and long. as he breaks the pocket, once it breaks down you have a chance to throw it for a first down. >> greg: kevin smith back at the -- >> greg: now would be a good time for scifres to just kick it. at the six. loses one tackler. down at the 14 yard line. good special-teams play by denzel perryman. >> greg: really interesting games the first part of this season, the seahawks. >> phil: every schedule you put up, you go, "wow, that's tough." this is the nfl and every game -- but at st. louis, at green bay, two games in a row on the road to are the stathe season, that's always tough no matter how good you are. they play a style that travels well. play defense. you can keep it close. they've got so many playmakers, one can step up and be the difference in a close game. >> greg: this will be the last play before the two-minute warning. far sideline complete to daniels and out of bounds and that will take us to the two-minute warning with 1:54 on the clock. we don't need that many bags. ♪ ♪ eat some more pasta. certainly. hauschka, another chance to win this game. >> phil: visualizing like golf, greg -- you don't play, that's right. >> greg: no. >> phil: when you see the shot, you hit the shot. >> greg: not always. i have seen a lot of guys see the shot and they don't even come close. >> phil: that's true. ok, you've got me. >> greg: steven hauschka barely missed a 58-yard attempt. >> phil: he's got to be confident the tendency distance is not a problem, that 58-yarder he didn't hit as solid as he wanted to so -- >> greg: second and one. seattle, remember, out of time outs. blitz from the right. comes free. throwing far side. incomplete. it will be third and one. deshon foxx the intended receiver. >> phil: the good thing as i talked earlier, it's about timing. wait until the last second sethe offense can't make an adjustment and get there. >> greg: got the first down and then some. rod smith. rod smith with the first down out to about the 33 yard line. >> phil: yeah. get organized and run the still plenty of time to gain about another 30 yards. >> greg: out of bounds at about the 35. >> phil: good job like i said a couple times here earlier, archer, a lot of time this year so far, tarvaris jackson getting hurt in that first preseason game so when russell wilson is done he comes in and gets a lot of action and you can see it, greg. he's got poise. he's not rattled. a very relaxed thrower. >> greg: second and nine. archer moving up in the pocket, throwing it away, not a receiver over there. >> phil: no. out of the pocket. that's right. definitely outside the pocket. there it is. right at the goalpost -- he's way outside. >> greg: good job by the first-year quarterback. >> phil: i think as you look at this here, i'm interested to see what san diego does. are they going to sit back and play zone? that's what it looks like. that's the best thing you can hope for as a young quarterback. >> greg: on the slant, daniels. daniels comes up short by about a yard. fourth and one, seattle looking to keep the drive alive. >> phil: you could run the football. still plenty of time. run it. get the first down. then spike the ball. >> greg: 55 seconds to play. archer throwing. sideline. he's got his man. midfield. 45, 40, and knocked out of bounds. kasen williams. >> phil: what a throw, fourth down. stood back there and relaxed and makes the throw right on target. what a good job by williams fighting the defensive back off. that was lowell rose on the coverage. excellent throw by archer. >> greg: now steven hauschka, right now looking at about a 53-54-yard field goal. >> phil: san diego challenged the receivers and the quarterback and the receiver won that time. >> greg: this is smith moving it to the center of the field. at the 35. now san diego uses a time out. to stop the clock with 13 seconds remaining. >> phil: they were going to clock the football, seattle was, now with a time out by san diego they may try to pick up more yards. >> greg: do you like the time out called by mike mccoy? >> phil: yeah, he's going to give his team a chance, if they do kick the field goal to go up on top he's going to give his team a few seconds to go down and kick a field goal and maybe win the game themselves. so if you're the san diego chargers -- they're going to play pressure defense, and as much as archer has played in this preseason, i think he's ready for it, knows what's coming and here it is. it's a blitz, for sure. >> dan: second and nine. short pass. looking to get out of bounds, and they are going to wind the clock. anthony mccoy. san diego stop the clock with 26 seconds to play. >> phil: i think they're upset on the san diego sideline because it took them too long to stop the clock. should be a few extra seconds on there. >> greg: he's out of bounds there. the >> greg: the time out wasn't called until 28. >> referee: please put 31 seconds on the game clock. >> greg: another big down for r.j. archer. third and eight. >> phil: if they don't get the first down, short, completed pass, field goal unit, they might probably call a time out so they won't have to hustle on the field. >> greg: sideline, dive, no. penalty marker is down. and it is against seattle. >> phil: look at pete carroll on the field. >> referee: pass interference. offense. number five. five-yard penalty. repeat third down. >> greg: that backs the seahawks up five. >> phil: it's an ex-quarterback, b.j. daniels in the slot. >> referee: 10-yard penalty. >> phil: he extends his arms. watch him in the slot. as he goes upfield, boom, that push-off -- that's a good call. >> greg: third and 18. they need the 26 yard line for a first down. sideline. rod smith makes the catch and goes out of bounds and stops the clock with 22 seconds. >> phil: almost the exact same kick, greg. >> greg: yeah. >> phil: this might be a yard farther. >> greg: steven hauschka minutes ago from 52 yards and this came down just short of the crossbar and you could tell the way the ball was spinning he got under it. >> phil: he didn't kick it in the right spot to drive it. i would be surprised if he doesn't have the distance to carry it. >> greg: this one from 60. on its way. and he got it. >> greg: steven hauschka from 60 yards out, 12 seconds on the clock and seattle has a one-point lead. >> phil: listen to the crowd. isn't it amazing how many seattle seahawk fans came down here for a preseason game? of course, san diego not a bad place to come to but if as you watch this game tonight, greg, is this typical seattle? they know they're tough, they can play for 60 minutes and they find a way to win even in a preseason game. >> greg: it didn't make it by much. >> phil: no. >> greg: but it was enough. ultimate redemption -- just missed from 58. >> phil: just a few minutes of experience and he knew how to kick it a little differently, a couple yards farther back but he hit approximate perfectly to make it. >> greg: 16-15, seattle. seattle is winless so far in this preseason. they're 0-2. this will be number one. steven hauschka looking to the sideline. how do you want me to kick this one? >> phil: the greatest chance to win this game is a good return. >> greg: javontee herndon. picked off by number 71. damion square. just made it. steven hauschka's career long during the regular season, 58 yards. the chargers now one time out, 14 seconds on the clock. >> phil: you hope you've got a couple of plays but you're looking for something that gains about 15 yards so you have one chance to get that second throw in to maybe get a long field goal try yourself. >> greg: sorensen deep. incomplete. >> phil: they ran the exact play that the denver broncos ran against seattle to get them into overtime last year in the regular season. inside receiver followed the outside receiver but that time, the corner, simon, came off of his guy and knocked the ball down. looks like lambo is the guy that's going to kick it if they get a chance. he's got his helmet on, ready to go. >> dan: second down. over the middle. that is incomplete with one second to play. tyrell williams scooped it off the turf. sorensen pass. bounced into his arms. looked like it. now just about every seattle seahawk is going to drop about 40 yards off the line of scrimmage. >> phil: your only hope is for pass interference to get another play. in situations like this, i don't think i've ever seen it called, mike carey? >> mike: if pass interference is there, it will be called -- and it does happen. >> greg: maybe not in the preseason. >> referee: that play is going under review. >> phil: mike, you can tell me what you really want to say when the game is over. >> phil: i'm talking about the pass interference on a long pass. you know why i'm pretty positive he didn't catch it? because the receiver got up and didn't -- he didn't complain. >> phil: if this is ruled a catch, they can call a time out. definitely hit the ground. turned over as it hit the ground. >> referee: after reviewing the play, the call will stand as an incomplete pass. >> phil: going back to what i said, your only hope is pass interference. don't take a chance. if it's close, let him catch it, take it down to the ground. because mike is telling us -- mike carey -- if there is pass interference, they will call it in a situation like this. >> referee: time out san diego. 30-second time out. third and final of regulation. >> greg: everybody is out of time outs. >> phil: the game was exciting. a lot of good things for both team but we're still trying to figure out the joke you told us about the helmet because when the game is over -- nobody got it but you -- some people said they did get it. we don't want to hear it again. >> greg: i have told you before, i cannot tell you jokes on saturday night because you break out laughing in church on sunday morning. >> phil: [laughing] are you saying i'm not really quick? >> greg: i didn't say that. >> phil: got to remember, what, i'm a thousand-yard rusher. >> greg: that's right. here is sorensen. just a two-man rush. he's caught from behind, lost the football, picked it up, still looking downfield and throws over the middle. that's intercepted, and this game is over. we have a penalty marker. >> referee: number 79. ineligible receiver downfield prior to the pass. the penalty is declined. the game is over. >> greg: with that, this preseason game comes to an end and steven hauschka will get one of the better seats on the plane on the way home for the seattle seahawks. our final score 16-15 seattle. coming up next for most
