Reporter jessica the victim here had to have her leg amputateed because she was mowed down in front of her house by an suv. To make mothers worse when shes able to go home theres not much left after the ambulance took her away, her house caught on fire. Family and friends of 24yearold Beatrice Spence are beside themselves first came the hitandrun then the fire. She ran her over. She ran her over. Reporter after 2 00 friday after spence was outside her home on north 17th street with cousin the white suv came speeding down the street right at her. One cousin describe what happened but didnt want to be identified. She came the street speeding up the block and she ran my cousin over and thats when she backed up. Reporter another look at the surveillance from the Reyes Grocery store shows the white suv with the front end damage as it leaves the scene. Family said the driver is a woman whose been in bitter feud with spence over a man. They say when the medic arrived one of spence legs was barely still attached around the knee. She was just out. She was out of it. Fortunately her mom got her to come to and when she came to she was really in serious shock. Reporter as family went with spence to the hospital, thing kept getting worse. A pot left on the stove set their home on fire. Smoke and flames severely damaged the house and the one next door. All this family say because of bad blood between two women over a man. She could have had kids. This is horrible. I wouldnt wish this on nobodys worst enemy. She did try to save her son but was injured in the process. She took part in tonights vigil along with other family members her scars from monday still quite visible. Eyewitness news was the first to show you the car that police say was used in that hitandrun. The cars owners turned it over to police this morning. Police say the owners who are from williamsport had hoped their white infinity to 19yearold who was suspected of being behind the wheel at the time of the crash. They did not notice the damage front end when he return it. So far there have been no charges filed in that case. Tomorrow a Memorial Service is set to be held for fouryearold latif wilson hes the little boy who died following a hitandrun that was caught on camera in southwest philadelphia on monday. Born and adopted in Montgomery County campbell had a happy childhood in newtown square. It was when she became a mother herself she wanted access to her original birth certificate. Hoping to use it to track down more information about her birth parents medical history. I need these records. I need them in case something happens to me. Or in case something happens to one of my children. Because of her adoption that information is sealed. You dont have access to your birth certificate. Is that frustrating to you . Its absolutely frustrateing. I just feel like youre being denied a basic human right that people who arent adopted have. Reporter theres now renewed push to change that. House bill 162 would give adult do adoptees in pennsylvania access to their original birth certificates. If passed, this bill would follow the current trend of more information in adoptions. Today it is open adoption. Things have changed drastically. Theres not the shame of it any more. In fact, women who place are really cite quite a bit thought of for makeing this sacrifice. For now Erin Campbell waits hoping shell have the answers to the question shes asked currently in pennsylvania adult adoptees can only get access to their original birth certificate ifs the birth parent signed a form releasing it. She didnt want to give us her name or show her face. But she says she heard screaming on a nightly basis and often call the police.
