we'll start with the sixers. making changes, jerry coangelo resigning as chairman of basketball operations. he'll be an advisory. bryan named president of basketball operations taking over for sam hinkie who resigned wednesday. >> this is one of the most exciting jobs i believe that's out there in the league right now. it's a situation where obviously, my predecessor sam hinkie has done a nice job of establishing the assets and resources to move forward in a positive way. i'm sorry that sam will not be a part of that. it was intended all along that he would. but the fact that we're moving forward onward and upward, we're all excited about that transition that's happening now. >> meanwhile sixers final home game against the bucks, ish smith drives the baskets. overtime final second, he had another chance to give the sixers the lead but misses. 109-108. joining us fresh off a long day at the wells fargo center. keith thank you for coming in tonight. were you surprised that sam hinkie stepped down. >> i was surprised at the manner that it happened. on a wednesday. around 7:00, 8:30 at night. i was not shocked at all that he's no longer there. once jerry coangelo was hired, you had, you just knew that hinkie was going to lose his power. >> it was a matter of of when. >> knowing hinkie you had a feel he wouldn't see this through. >> in comes coangelo's son bryan. the new president. so that also seemed like a move that was going to happen. you kind of knew the connection. >> it was one of those thing. the night the at any i believe it was december the 7th they announced coangelo was gooding to be here. we think his son will be the next general manager. that was the thought. then they got to a point where people started talking about danny ferry. then it came back. none of this is shocking. in people in the media will say, wow, went know that. they're lying. >> do you like the move. >> i kind of do. reason being i know that bryan coangelo made some mistakes drafting but he's also a guy, you see most of the players they have are guys who he drafted. he had a lot of success with the phoenix suns as well. the only thing is i wish that hinkie would have been able to stay on board. >> to see the whole process through. you got this far. he really was doing everything he was told to do basically. >> you're exactly right. hey look you guys wanted me to save money, gets assets. you wanted me to have space. he did everything you wanted me to do. hinkie is a these guy. if you talked to him off the record, you would laugh. you don't see that. he's a nice guy. i believe the problem is he's so into the business whereas it got to a point i believe he may have turned off agents because he didn't call them back. opposing general managers didn't want to deal with him. while he was all about the business, seems like his communication skills kind of suffered. >> was any of this come down from the league. basically you guys got to get your act together to. enough is enough. >> the sixers are going to say it wasn't. what happened is the league kind of like strongly suggested that they go outlet there and get coangelo. exactly. i mean, the sixers denied it today but believe me, the league stepped in and said look, this guy is going to come and he's going to be the chairman and he's going to be an advisor. >> and straighten things out. >> exactly. >> one thing don't worry brett brown is seven. is he. >> he said, the way that he, the way that he phrased it was he will get a chance to see this thing through. now, when you say that someone is going to get a chance, that means, ok, if we start off next year and the team is one and 15, game 16 somebody else is coaching. that's how i took it. i think that's what's going to happen. he'll get a chance. but he's not safe. >> i feel bad for him. i do feel like he's a good coach. great guy. you know him very well. i feel like he didn't have any talent to really work with. you know? >> you're exactly right. that's what it is. the like a lot of times people criticize him for his late game coaching and adjustments of stuff like that, but to me, his first year was his best year when he had nba talent. so with that -- when you -- it's hard to judge him when he has to coach every possession because of the players he has aren't able to compete against the other guys. he has to overcompensate and gamble and when things go wrong people want to criticize. >> what does this mean for free agency? will they be aggressive? you're going to be busy? >> well, they're going to be aggressive. if you're going to say like kevin durant he's the number one target. he won't come here. he's not going to even say -- heel gooding to -- he may pick up the phone, yeah? that's a nice thing you guys are doing in philadelphia. hit me back four, five years. seriously. i mean, a list free agents aren't coming here. they're going to have to get role players, overpay a couple people. they're not going to go out and bring in top notch guys. they're still several years away and the thing about this, yes, they have the money but people want to go somewhere where they feel like they're ready, they can win the championship. if there is a guy who says i want to to come here because i want to get paid. that's not the guy you want in the locker room. >> thank you so much, keith pompay. it's time for sports zone. when we come back, the phillies starting season with four consecutive losses. could they take more out of the mets in new york. flyers little bit of unfinished business take on the caps. we have highlights from game 82 when the zone continues. katie mcginty knowshool, get the routine. by. her dad was a philly cop. mom worked in a restaurant. then, hard work opened doors. now it's not quite enough. but mcginty's working to change that, helping create thousands of new jobs. she'll always stand up for manufacturing, higher wages, and equal pay for women so opportunity never gets out of reach. katie mcginty for senate. women voters responsible for the content of this advertising. . flyers tonight take on the islanders. the fame meant nothing to the flyers. michael neuvirth. orange and black. first goal in thrown games. second game tide. michael raffl scores this time. flyers beat the islanders 5-2. schedule is out for the flyers cap series. game one is thursday in dc. saturday both of that he is games starting at 7:00. back to philly for game three and four. games five and seven yet to be determined. to the phillies opening day against the padres. this afternoon they went for the first series win against the mets. six and inning phillies up a win, odubel herrera. with that phillies take a 3-0 lead. bull pen came through three plus innings of gomez struck out to end the game. 5-2 victory. aaron nola will be on the mound for the home opener. joining us from the bucks county times. kevin cooney. they start out losing first four games. win two out of three from the mets. good sign? it's pretty good. >> i think it's the best sign you can see. the starting pitching came around only road trip. you saw jeremy with -- aaron nola had a good start. velasquez last night was a good start. at good starting pitching is a really good sign. bull pen is starting to see. >> comes around. >> gomez pitched better. this is something that's going to really take time. this has been everybody knew this was going to be the kind of cap 22 with this team coming in. a lot of guys in and out. so it's going to be interesting to see how this develops into july and august. right now, this bull pen major concern. offense has not been all that great. they've had moments. obviously, the herrera home run was a good sign. starting to worry about how he was getting off. ryan howard two homers. >> ryan is looking ok. ly he's not going to be around very long? >> i believe he'll be here through most of the season. he's a platoon player at this point. just about every measurable, pete mackanin made that pretty clear it's going to be between darin ruf and howard. you hope you can get a little bit of value for him if it gets on a role. gets the 25 homers, gets interested because the price tag drops. realistically. he's probably going to be here the whole year. i'm going to object interested. in the reaction. he's been a good citizen and a good players despite what's been going on. the controversy about the contract and all of that. i believe he deserves a pretty good fair well tour from the fans. but to be interesting to see if he gets it starting tomorrow. >> i believe he'll get it; right? . >> i don't know. for opener? yeah, first time he strikes out. i believe people will --. >> yes, my how they turn. >> he deserves better than i believe. >> i'm with you on that. >> he's not reason this team fell apart. he's far from it. his injury was unfortunate. guy played that final month of the 2011 kind of bad wheel. tried to gut it out. it's not his fault he got hurt and struggled to get back. >> let's switch gears and talk about the flyers make the late run. best team in the league washington capitols they have had success against this team. there could be a worse match-up out there. could they win the series. >> one thing you know is that any playoff series is up for grabs. ly you look at what the kings did a couple years ago. the capitols have a history of under performing in the post season. however, thinking about. >> think about villanova. >> you look at, i think the main thing is this club is run so much off of motion to get to this point. it's been a great learning experience. i wonder how much is going to be left in the tank against washington. defensively they're not -- when you fall behind the capitols, you better -- you're in trouble. you can't fall behind in a series against them. washington has a lot of weapons. i believe that -- it -- it's a if series. i believe i got to go with the caps. >> i know the flyers are emotional as you said. very concerned about ed snider right now. >> it was a fascinating scene yesterday with the emotion and everybody talking about it. obviously, god bless america with the face time. he is, he has been one of those signature people in philadelphia, not just in sports, in philadelphia, that complex is, the cable stations. he started two of them. owned three. he's been part of the opener group of three teams. he's a alleged. with that organization he's the papa. the guy that has been there the whole time. there's strong connection all the way down. i believe that's why this is going to be a pretty emotional run no matter how old it goes for this organization. they know how important it is to mr. snider what this team is it long term. >> let's move to villanova. we were on the road. tell me something that stand out for you about the experience. >> i believe the one thing that stood out this was a team that had serious questions going into the first weekend of the tomorrow. when we were up in brooklyn and they were playing iowa you thought ok this isn't a team they should lose to. what happens if they do? what happens if they lost to iowa? well, jay wright and that group pretty much accurately said, we seen the worst. you can tell when they had that removed, when they had that whole second round question removed. they played with such energy and excitement and they were fearless. you go beat kansas the way they did after trail by five and and the rally the way they did and to take the lead and take that game over. after you blow a ten point lead the way they did on monday to have the gum shun to run that play and to have kris jenkins hit that shot from ryan arcidiacono, to me, that's kind of what a it was. they were a fearless group at the end. that's something that the program, the program is so set up right now. lesley. you look at the recruits they have coming in. josh hart and kris jenkins return you have brunson there. they are set for another run here. these questions are totally off the table. >> i knew ochefu was great and of course ryan was another leader. those guys will definitely be missed. >> they will be missed. again, you're seeing recruit cans. they can now to. if jay wanted to. they can now be a national program and go get anybody they want. that idea of you're getting from philly, or baltimore or brunson is from chicago. it's not a deep recruiting national program, they're basically a small catholic college on the mainline now they can go because of a national title. they can get anybody they want. >> after winning the national championship. jay has been getting hammered are you going to the nba? i mean, he says he wants to stay at villanova. i believe he's a great fit there. do you believe he'd leave. >> it's not going to be this year. i believe it would be for an east coast nba team. i believe he still has one child in high school it would have to be on the east coast because he talks about his love of the east coast. yes, that means the sixers. i don't see the knicks. the sixers obviously building a relationship with the coangelos, but brett brown is there. we heard today he's going to be able to see the process through. nothing immediate. i believe jay is there for a little bit longer at least as long as he wants to at villanova. >> kevin, thank you so much. kevin coo ney. kris jenkins to jordan spieth's collapse we have highlights f vo: president obama endorses katie mcginty for u.s. senate, calling her "a champion for working families." the 9th of 10 kids, her dad's union pension and social security made all the difference. in pennsylvania, mcginty helped implement obamacare and expand coverage. trump and toomey have attacked obamacare and social security. to fight back, president obama wants mcginty in the senate to protect women, families and seniors. vote in the democratic primary, april 26th. mcginty: i'm katie mcginty and i approve this message. ♪ to you, they're more than just a pet. so protect them... ...with k9 advantix ii. it not only kills fleas, ticks and mosquitoes, it repels them, too. so do more to defend your four legged friend... ...with k9 advantix ii. for the love of dog. ifbut find it harder and hardert to get by, you're not alone. while our people work longer hours for lower wages, almost all new income goes to the top 1%. my plan -- make wall street banks and the ultrarich pay their fair share of taxes, provide living wages for working people, ensure equal pay for women. i'm bernie sanders. i approve this message because together, we can make a political revolution and create an economy and democracy that works for all and not just the powerful few. . the masters set issing up the jordan spieth show. led for seven consecutive round at augusta one more round. a funny thing happened. he was looking to become the first receipt championship. two shots quadruplel, that the door for danny willett. became the second englishman to take home the green jacket. >> i had my b minus and i made up for it. ultimately you just have to have your a game and i just did that have the iron swings as it shows on the back nine. >> going to have to see if it sinks in and get back home and get back home. >> time for a final time-out. when we come back, the . welcome back to the zone. great day. had two goals. fiance sack ertz. women won three to nothing. it was great day. that time of the week. the top three on 3. ♪ ♪ . >> never seen an afternoon like this. ♪ note ♪ >> is three seconds to go across timeline. two seconds to go. he made it. he made it. at the buzzer. cats win it all. 31 years later. villanova. king of college basketball once again. >> did you have any doubts that would be number one?
