shows the big storm pulling way after drop 2g feet to 3 feet of m it could snow again tomorrow and also over the weekend. schools are closed again in much of massachusetts. can you say snow day? boston is still trying to clear 26 inches of snow. other areas along the coast are covered in sheets of ice. coastal flooding caused enough damage that could take years to repair. and anna werner is in marshfield, massachusetts. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. marshfield is trying to recover. homes like this one behind me were destroyed by a major storm and now this is a community in need of recovery. the combination of high winds, heavy snow, and blowing seawater left some towns along the massachusetts coast a frozen icy mess with downed power lines, collapsed roofs, and blown out windows. >> this is probably tens ofrp millions of dollars in damage here. >> reporter: marshfield's police chief. >> it's going to take a couple of years to rebuild things. >> reporter: on wednesday they reached 26(pañ degrees. they were working on restoring thousands of people's homes. >> these are homes. it's not seasonal. these are homes that were occupied. >> it's crazy, the storm off the ocean. you know you can't fight back water. >> reporter: at least a dozen homes were severely damaged. >> ba-boom, you know. just like fast as lightning. wham. >> reporter: this fisherman had half a dozen bones broke in his face after a storm came barreling through his seaside home in the middle of the night. >> i never saw it until i was on the floor bleeding and i said, oh, boy. if i got knocked out i would have been in big trouble. it with us 4:00 in the morning, nobody around. >> reporter: he was able to get out of the house to the end of his drive way where he called police. >> i morning. we're keeping an eye on some more winter weather headed out to the northeast. there's a couple of low pressure systems that are going to be joining forces as they make their way up into the new england area. we're going to start to see snow tonight in western pennsylvania and upstate new york and then that drives along the atlantic coast with a mix of snow and some rain.éé the rain/snow line is going to be right through the new york and boston area by late tonight, tomorrow morning, and that should keep totals down save for back toward new hampshire, vermont, and up into maine. boston which just got stocked early in the week will be seeing some more snow, but more insult than injury at this point. 1 to 3 inches with heavier snow sticking up into maine. charlie? >> matt, or your pilot will be killed. this morning japanese said they're putting their trust in jordan. at this point there's not much more they can do. a japanese journalist and a jordanian pilot, their fate may be determined by sundown in iraq. kenji% goto could be freed. lieutenant muath al kaseasbeh may be executed. a new message reported to be from goto was released by goto overnight. >> ifkz sajida al rishawi is not released to the turkish border, the jordanian pilot muath al kaseasbeh will be killed. >> reporter: the pilot's father an influential tribal leader met with jordan's king abdullah last night and told him a son of jordan must be returned home but that's not even part of the deal. isis has only said his life would be spared, not that he would be freed. the pilot has been in the hands of isis militants since last month when his plane crashed during a bombing raid over syria. jordanian officials have said any prisoner swap would mean letting their pilot go too. it's unclear what will happen to kenji goto if jordan fails to meet isis's demand. a jordanian official says they can't even be surece they pilot is alive. now, that may proside a defense for the government against public anger and isis may be bardering with a chip they no longer had. fear is growing on the lebanon border after day of deadly attacks. israeli forces. hezbollah killed two israeli soldiers. a u.n. peacekeeper was killed when israel retaliated. hezbollah says the attack is in response to an israeli air strike in syria that killed six of its fighters earlier this month. investigators have a clearer picture this morning about what happened in the file moments of asia flight 8501. flight records reveal the co-pilot was kill bfrd the crash. the more experienced captain took over the controls after the trouble began. the plane was cruising at 32,000 feet when it wobbled and veered left. in a matter of seconds it climbed to 38,000 feet. and that quick acceleration caused the plane to stall and dive toward the java sea. all 162 people on board were killed. malaysia declared this morning flight 370 went down by accident. it disappeared last march with 239 people on board. the chief said all the passengers are aedassumed to be dead. he said they're still searching for the plane and they're working on ar declaration to get funds for the family. arizona is ordering anyone exposed to the virus without the vaccine dosage to be quarantined for at least 3 weeks. there are at least 95 cases of the measles in ten states. most are in california and ask be traced back to the in a statement the national group representing the 16 sororities say they, quote, support the safety of their women, though they support the national presidents making the decision and encourage inging sorority women to plan sisterhood events and other safer options. >> taking away the ability for girls in sororities to make their own choice. >> i think how it's approached, the entire culture is the ziissue. >> reporter: this week they'll made an online approach. >> you have to take the responsibility offer of the women. you can't put rules on them and not punish the fraternities. like they don't have any punishments right now, yet we have to stay indoors. >> that change.org petition has gotten more than 2,100 signatures. gayle, some of the sororities are planning those so-called over 100 chemicals and they found at 15 when they're higher menopause is higher. you're six-fold higher if you find levels of these in the blood. it's important to know that this study is association, not causality but it's important to realize this could change our lives. >> david, many of these chemicals have been banned in the united states for a long time because of their toxicity and dangers to our health so why are these still prevalent? >> it's interesting. most of them were banned in the '70s, butñnñ1" uráur&l there. they last many many year in the environmental and environment and in our blood. many of them are still being used. that's why you watch when microwaving in plastic and avoid chewing on plastic if child. >> is menopause significantly bad for a woman's health? >> yeah. osteoporosis increases, heart disease increases as you go through menopause. there's a role for that. at the same time early menopause can accelerate some diseases, so we need to be aware of this. i hate doing stories where you can't wrap it up. the real message is begg aware and we as a society have to find a way to start to identify these compounds in nature because we're affected. >> but the federalñ court. tommy thompson found a shipwreck. it contain as what's believed to be the largest amount of gold in american history. he was arrested tuesday at a florida hotel. erin moriarty tells why he was on the run for years. >> this is such a good story. he's said to be a brilliant engineer but he's been the subject of an international man hunt ever since he vanished in 2012. he's in a legal bitter dispute with investors who say they haven't received a single cent from his very>2jsç lucrative discovery. u.s. marshals found tommy thompson and his girlfriend hiding out in this suite in west boca raton. they did not resist arrest. >> i had heard they had been staying at the hotel for two years. they had been paying cash forv all their stay. >> reporter: thompson is wanting in ohio for skipping out on a hearing for a lawsuit brought by his investors. thompson raised nearly $13 million from people. he found the ship of gold. it sank off the coast of south carolina in 1857 during a hurricane. it's believed the ship was carrying as much as 21 tons of gold at the time. for treasure hunters, it is a coveted prize. thompson, a pioneer of deep sea exploration techniques discovered the wreck in 1988 about a mile and a half below the service. attorney rick roebl once represented his company. >> those that knew him personally knew that he lived like a paper and sacrificed himself and was the first explorer to achieve a working presence in the deep ocean. >> reporter: thompson recovered about 3 tons of gold from the bottom of the atlantic. he sold it in 2000 for about $50 million, and thompson's investors which included the columbus dispatch nothing. he said they were used for the expense of expeditions and lawsuits. >> over $43 million in debt to one company, $45 million in debt to another company. >> reporter: the only charges facing thompson and ann are for failing to show up in court. they do not face any criminal charges stemming from the company's finances. >> i have no idea what happened to the gold. i'm sure a lot of people want to know that. >> investors may still get a return. there may be as much as 18 tons of gold in the wreckage. thompson's company is in receivership and there are still plans to go for the gold. >> what's to prevent someone putting on a wet suit and go a half mile down in the water? >> one of his gums is that these investors had given away information. that's one reason why he said he hadn't paid them and anybody could go down and get it. but, in fact it is a mile and a half. he is considered to be very brilliant but quirky. he's the one who created this amazing remote control vehicle to get the gold but he's quirky. >> you can say that. >> that's one word to thank you, erin. this morning some law enforcement officers want to put the brakes on one of the features of a popular smartphone app. waze is an application app that a lot of drivers use. it shows short cuts and accidents and even the location of the police. but carter evans shows us why it puts officers' lives at risk. >> reporter: nearly 50 million drivers across the u.s. now use waze to avoid traffic and find the road less travelled. adam uses it to shortena( commute but it can help him avoid speeding tickets. he posted his video online to teach other drivers how to find speed traps. >> bingo.v÷ bingo. i guess that's proof positive it works. >> the waze app is full of icons. these heads with blue hats is the location where a police officer has been spotted. if you click on it you can find where and when they're located. >> you have to constantly weigh what is the value of information you're putting out c versus the risk that it creates. >> reporter: los angeles police chief charlie beck cently wrote a letter to google which owns waze claiming the app poses a danger to the lives of the police officers in the united states. he asked the company to disable the police alert function after reports surfaced that brinsley used the waze app to kill two new york city officers last month even though investigators don't believe the app was directly linked to the crime, some are concerned it can help criminals. >> it become as tool for people who break the law. >> reporter: this week the sheriff's association asked to meet with google. >> everything that we can do to slow them down and stop them is in >> reporter: google hasn't announced plans to make any changes to waze. in a statement the company said many of its police partners support the app because most users tend to drive more carefully when they believe law enforcement is nearby. >> does it change your driving pattern? >> it sure does. i definitely give my speedometer a quick glance and slow down. >> reporter: waze just in the school are not vaccinated. >> let's say they're not vaccinated with a medical exemption you can't come to school. let's get ahead of it and make sure we don't have an outbreak. >> they can mandate certain behaviors. why can't they say you must be vaccinated to come on campus. >> they live where more than 6% of kindergartners have personal belief exceptions. that's neil three times the
