bullet. blood is everywhere. then this was a moment where he stopped. >> while investigators turn their attention to the shooter's wife, wondering what she knew about her husband's plans. where does this stop? >> president obama turns his attention to donald trump, ripping his rhetoric. >> are we going to start treating all muslim americans differently because that's not the america we want. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. we start with breaking news and another tragedy in orlando, this one at walt disney world. there 50 law enforcement personnel and two marine units are searching for a little boy dragged into the water by an alligator. it was movie night at disney's flagship report, the grand floridian. a family of four, a father, mother, and two children from nebraska enjoying the evening on the shore of the seven seas lagoon. >> there's a sandy beach area, and the family was out simply relaxing. they had a mother, child, and baby playpen. >> reporter: the father and 2-year-old son were wading in the lake when the alligator struck. >> the father was nearby, and the child was playing in the water a foot or so into the water. the alligator came up and attacked. >> he saw this happen? >> yes. and the father at some point struggled to try to get his son. >> reporter: police believe the mother also tried to save her son. the father was slightly injured. the grand floridian is one of the disney resorts adjacent to the seven seas lagoon. the lagoon connects to bay lake, a natural lake forming the waterways around the magic kingdom. officials say there have been no other recent reports of similar alligator attacks at the lake. a disney spokesperson had a brief statement. >> everyone here at the walt disney world resort is devastated by this tragic accident our thoughts are with the affect. >> there were no other people in the water at the time. and there are signs that say "no swimming." as the search was underway, the nightly fireworks display lit up the sky over the magic kingdom. now to the orlando nightclub massacre. this morning, the focus of the investigation has turned to the wife of the gunman, omar mateen. the fbi is trying to determine if she had advanced knowledge of the attack. the agency is also trying to determine if the teen led a secret life as a gay man as it looks for possible motives. tomorrow, president obama arrives in orlando to pay his respects. kenneth craig is in orlando. kenneth? >> reporter: good morning to you. as more and more details start to emerge about all of this, the picture is getting more and more blurry as investigators look into whether the attacker was living a secret life as a gay man and what his wife knew. >> did you know your husband was going do this? >> reporter: investigators are turning their attention to this woman. she was married to omar mateen, the gunman who went on a shooting rampage inside the pulse nightclub in orlando. >> oh, my god! people are getting shot! >> reporter: police say she and mateen had gone to the gay nightclub before. she also said she tried to convince him not to go through with the attack. >> i didn't see. didn't notice anything. she is very good girl. honest, sincere person. >> reporter: as investigators dig into mateen's past, patrons also say they've seen him at pulse before. >> he used to come in the bar about -- on the weekends sometimes. >> reporter: not only did mateen call 911, but sources tell cbs news he also made a facebook post pledging his allegiance to isis while randomly shooting into the crowd. >> he looked at me and said, take care of me. please don't leave me. he knew i was going to take care of him. he knew if someone said something bad about him, i was going to take up for him because he was more than just a friend. he was like a brother. >> reporter: demetrius survived, but his friend eddie justice, a tax accountant, was one of the 49 who didn't make it out alive. we confirmed that the shooter actually went to work as a security guard the day of the attack. >> kenneth craig in orlando. thank you very much. omar mateen's father told our david begnaud that he doesn't believe his son was gay. >> reporter: are you surprised by the claims by some gay men that your son was home schedule. >> listen -- homosexual? >> listen, i don't know if he was. if that was his way of life, what can you do? he wanted to be, but i don't believe so. >> reporter: did you ever suspect something. >> no, no. >> asked about report that his son celebrated the 9/11 attacks, mateen's father said there may have been an incident at school, but he did not want to discuss it. dozens of survivors of the orlando shooting remain hospitalized, but some of the wounded are talking about their ordeal including patience carter. she went with two friends. carter and murray fled when the shooting started, but they went back when they realized parker was missing. all three huddled in a bathroom, and murray was killed. >> the gunman entered the bathroom and was shooting his machine gun. so we're scrambling in the bathroom screaming at the top of our lungs. you know, people are getting hit by bullets. blood is everywhere. there was a moment where he stopped. and that's when i first realized that my leg was shot. there were several other people shot and pleading in the bathroom. -- and bleeding in the bathroom. that's when akira, who didn't make it, realized she was shot in her arm. i'm not sure if that was when tiara got shot in her side, but we were pretty bad. throughout that period of hours, the gunman was in there with us. and he actually made a call to 911 from there saying that the reason why he's doing this is because he wants america to stop bombing his country. and from that conversation, he pledged allegiance to isis. they bust down the wall, they engaged in gunfire, shot him dead. i saw akyra's phone right before i got out the wall, and i picked it up because i truly believe that after i was told she was breathing that her pulse was still going that i would be able to give that phone back to her. once we got back -- once we got back into the hospital. donald trump is responding to scathing credit sbimp his latest anti-muslim rhetoric from president obama. the president blasted trump's renewed calls for a ban on muslim immigration calling trump a dangerous threat to the nation's safety. trump said mr. obama appeared angrier at him than he was at the orlando gunman. margaret brennan reports. it won't make us more safe. it will make us less safe. fueling isil's notion that the west hates muslims. >> reporter: a passionate president obama ripped into donald trump, warning that his rhetoric feeds hate. >> we hear language that singles out immigrants and suggests entire religious communities are complicit in violence. where does this stop? the orlando killer, one of the san bernardino killers, the ft. hood killer, they were all u.s. citizens. are we going to start treating all muslim americans differently? because that's not the america we want. [ gunfire ] >> reporter: that divisiveness hurts the u.s. war against terrorists, he argued, and be s betrays american values. >> if we ever abandon those values, we would not only make it a lot easier to radicalize people here and around the world, but we would have betrayed the very things we are trying to protect. the very things that make this country great. the very things that make us exceptional. and then the terrorists would have won. we cannot let that happen. i will not let that happen. >> reporter: the president also slammed critic who demand he use the term "radical islam" when referring to terrorists. >> it's a political talking point. it's not a strategy. groups like isil and al qaeda want to make this war a war between islam and america. that's how they recruit. if we fall into the trap of painting all muslims with a broad brush and imply that we are at war with an entire religion, then we are doing the terrorists' work for them. >> reporter: it didn't take long for donald trump to attack. he accused the president of claiming to know the enemy and prioritizing him over the american people. margaret brennan, cbs news, the white house. top republicans also condemned trump's reaction to the orlando massacre. speaker paul ryan denounced trump for trying to rally support for his anti-muslim policies. ryan said a muslim ban is not in this country's best interest or reflective of american principles. coming up on the "morning news," heartache. more from a survivor as he opens up about losing his friend. >> it last thing my friend texted me was, please help me. it's easy to love your laxative when that lax loves your body back. only miralax hydrates, eases and softens to unblock naturally, so you have peace of mind from start to finish. love your laxative. miralax. ♪ the sun'll come out for people with heart failure, tomorrow is not a given. but entresto is a medicine that helps make more tomorrows possible. ♪ tomorrow, tomorrow... ♪ i love ya, tomorrow in the largest heart failure study ever. entresto helped more people stay alive and out of the hospital than a leading heart failure medicine. women who are pregnant must not take entresto. it can cause harm or death to an unborn baby. don't take entresto with an ace inhibitor or aliskiren. if you've had angioedema while taking an ace or arb medicine, don't take entresto. the most serious side effects are angioedema, low blood pressure... ...kidney problems, or high potassium in your blood. ♪ tomorrow, tomorrow i love ya, tomorrow.♪ ask your heart doctor about entresto. and help make tomorrow possible. ♪ you're only a day away ♪ quilted northern works their bathroom experience. just like they forgot conductor randy, who sees all and forgets nothing. at least he's not constable bob. one survivor of the orlando attack is speaking out on behalf of the beloved friend he lost in the massacre. speaking to scott pelley, demetrius nawlings has a message for the nation. >> i want you to know and i want america to know that my friend died not in vain. he died for a purpose. he died for a purpose for me to speak on his behalf, to speak on all of those people that died and in tragic. it wasn't just gay. it wasn't a hate crime. this was hate on people. scott, if i cut you, you'll bleed red. if i died in that club tonight, in my obituary it wouldn't say demetrius naulings, my gay son, it would say demetrius naulings, my son. this is a hate crime on people, not just gay people. we were never a disease or abomination. we are human. we wanted to be accepted. we were in our safe comfort zone. this was somewhere we could be us. there's no judgment when you enter in somewhere you're safe in, like your home. how you go home at night -- and i don't know if you have kids or not, but when you go home, you make sure you tell them that you love them. scott, i wouldn't hope that never happens to you that you have to get that phone call from their friend to tell you that they don't know where your son is. and to hear his mother saying, tell me he okay, because if he's with you he got to be okay. >> you can watch scott pelley's full interview with demetrius naulings on cbsnews.com. standing in solidarity, the lgbt community speaks out about the orlando massacre. in a good, clean salad, every ingredient is the main ingredient. the new green goddess cobb with avocado, bacon, freshly made dressing, tomato... and chicken. at panera. food as it should be. making their getaway in a prius. have outlasted authorities by this game ends now. ♪ to catch a prius, you've gotta be a prius. ♪ guys, what's that?
