primary season all but wraps up, including california. for the democrats, 475 elected delegates are up for grabs. bernie sanders says he expects to do well, and the latest polls indicate that he is running neck and neck with hillary clinton. but she needs just 73 more delegates to secure the nomination. on the republican side later today, donald trump is expected to explain just what happened to the money he raised for veterans. hena daniels is here in new york. good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. donald trump will hold a news conference today to address questions over millions of dollars his foundation raised for veterans. the money was raised when trump skipped out on a scheduled republican debate in january and held a fundraiser instead. donald trump is expected to set the record straight today about his fundraising efforts on behalf of veterans. >> we just raised almost $6 million for the vets. >> the presumptive gop nominee has come under scrutiny for failing to disclose where the money went. he brushed the issue aside while courting vets at an annual motorcycle event in washington, d.c., on sunday, while tearing into his likely democratic opponent, hillary clinton. >> she thinks the v.a. is doing good. if she thinks they're doing a good job, then i've been wasting a lot of time because i know the vets, and they are miserable with what's happening. >> clinton remains locked in a tight battle in california with rival bernie sanders. the vermont senator attended game seven of the western conference finals last night. like the warriors who fought back from the brink of elimination, he's hoping for a great comeback in the golden state. >> they turned it around. that is what our campaign is going to do as well. >> clinton has changed her campaign schedule and will return to california four days earlier than planned. a win in the state next tuesday would give her enough delegates to lock up the party nomination. and clinton is off the campaign trail today, holding two fundraisers, one in new york and one in new jersey, while bernie sanders continues to stump for votes in california. anne-marie? >> all right, hena daniels here in new york. thanks a lot. yesterday secret service agents rushed to surround bens when protesters trialed to storm the stage. sanders was speaking at a rally in oakland. the agents jumped on the plat tomorrow to protect him and led him off the stage. other agents grabbed the protesters and led them away. it's not clear why they were protesting. sanders eventually continued his speech. and for the first time, the rain has stopped in southeast texas, but resident there is are still bracing for more flooding. flood watches and warnings are posted in the houston area this morning. severe thunderstorm watches are posted elsewhere in the state. the brazos river is expected to crest at record levels, over 53 feet, by this afternoon. that's three feet above the previous record spurred by days of unrelenting rain. the high water is blamed for at least six deaths. there have already been mandatory evacuations. homes and land are under water, and dozens have been rescued from the high water. there's more rain in the forecast later this week, unfortunately, and the water is not expected to recede for days. in the southwest and nebraska, at least one tornado touched down. large hail and heavy rain is reported. so far there are no reports of injuries or extensive damage. extreme flooding has killed at least four people in southwest germany. days of torrential rains triggered raging flood waters that swept away homes, cars, and two bridges. one of the victims was a firefighter trying to rescue someone who was stranded by the high water. the taliban are being blamed for killing at least 16 people this morning in afghanistan. it happened in the northern province of kunduz. a spokesman says the militants pulled passengers from buses and shot them. dozens more were taken hostage. back in this country now, two motorcycle riders have been hospitalized following a road rage incident near tampa. a driver ran over the two bikers. one witness says it started when the driver ran the biker off the road. they caught up with him and started arguing, and that's when he ran them over. the bikers have nonlife threatening injuries and the driver is under arrest. a sailor came to the rescue of ten people aboard a sinking boat this holiday weekend. the 41-footer was going down quickly seven miles from florida's west coast, but the sailor was less than a mile away when he heard the call for help. all ten were safely aboard his sailboat when the motor boat dipped beneath the waves. and a woman is in serious condition after a boat exploded on a lake near central north carolina. five people were reportedly on the boat at the time. she was blown off the boat by the explosion. four others jumped overboard before the blast. the boat had just left shore when it caught fire. the director of the cincinnati zoo defended the zoo's decision to kill a gorilla to protect a 4-year-old boy. he says that the boy climbed over a three-foot railing, walked through bushes that were four feet deep, before falling 15 feet into the gorilla enclosure. officials hope to reopen the exhibit by next weekend. jamie yuccas has our report. >> reporter: animal activists held a vigil to remember harambe. the 17-year-old western lowland gorilla was shot after a boy fell into its exhibit. >> we're here to represent harambe. we're not here to point fingers. we're not here to criticize. >> i hope they're able to come up with ways to avoid this happening in the future. >> reporter: cell phone video captured the terrifying moments after a young boy somehow wound up alone in a mote with a 400-pound gorilla. >> the gorilla has the child and is drinking him around the pen. >> reporter: the boy's mother could be heard calling to him. >> mommy loves you. i'm right here. >> reporter: zoo officials made the decision to shoot and kill harambe, saying tranquilizing the animal was not an option. >> that child's life was in danger. people who question that are monday morning quarterbacks or second guessers don't understand you can't take a risk with a silverback gorilla. >> reporter: the zoo says the exhibit barrier is adequate. the boy's family released a statement saying he is home and fine. trucks and a hazardous material response team was called. the woman was arrested. president obama was not there at the time. the all clear was given and normal operations resumed. former attorney general eric holder says edward snowden performed a public service when he leaked classified material back in 2013. holder said snowden broke the law and should face the kons questions but that he sparked a national debate about secret domestic surveillance programs. snowden mocked the evolution of thought about his actions. he tweeted this out. in 2013, it's treason. in 2014, maybe not, but it
