Thats about an inch and a half short of the alltime record for any month in dallas. Oklahoma city has had nearly 19. 5 inches of rain, the wettest month there on record. Scientists say the floods could be a sign the weather pattern known as el nino is gaining strength in the pacific. If so, california could finally get the droughtbusting storms it desperately needs. He said in the last two years scientists have seen a change in the jet stream that could be caused by climate change. It often takes on a wavy pattern causing more extreme weather such as all that snow this past winter this boston. But now the scientist are watching the el nino forming in the pacific. Is the el nino forming in the pacific look like its going to be a big one . This el nino has all the markings of a big worn but its a bit early to say. The cycle upon continue throughout the year, and peak some time in the winter. So it could be godzilla el nino but it also could be el wimpo. Reporter el nino is caused by a band of warm ocean water in the pacific. This satellite image taken just this week shows it getting more intense. Thats good news for parched california which after four years of drought, now needs at least 75 inches of precipitation to refill its nearempty reservoirs. The last large el nino to hit the west was in 1998. California saw record rain and mudslides. El nino fueled storms caused more than 4 billion in damage nationwide. Were already seeing some changes in the weather here in southern california. This may was wetter and cooler than last year, but charlie nobody is counting their chickens just yet. Today, jurors heard more from james holmes, the man who opened fire in a colorado Movie Theater. The prosecution played video of his interview with a courtappointed psychiatrist two years after the deadly shootings. Holmes, charged with murder, has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Mark strassman is covering the trial. Reporter six months before the movie massacre, james holmes recalled barely holding it together. Jurors listened to holmes talking on camera to dr. William reid, a courtappointed psychiatrist. Reid was evaluating if holmes was legally sane, whether he knew the difference between right and wrong when he murder 12 people. Holmes told reid he has always been a loner. Reporter holmes said having to talk to people often made his mind wander. Reporter holmes talked to read in july of 2014, two years after the movie shootings. By then, he was taking Antipsychotic Medication and antidepressants. He admitted to a hatred of mankind and that he sometimes saw himself as mentally ill. Reporter holmes also admitted he was paranoid, for instance charlie walking into that Movie Theater he thought he was under surveillance by the f. B. I. And hoped he was because then agents would stop him. Rose we know more tonight about the case of Dennis Hastert, the former House Speaker, charged with violating banking laws and lying to the f. B. I. About why he made a series of large cash withdrawals. According to the indictment, after half hastert left the house in 2007, he was paying hush money to someone he had wronged. Justice correspondent jeff pegues has been looking into all this. Reporter Law Enforcement sources say the misconduct mentioned in Court Documents relate to Sexual Misconduct dating back more than 30 years. From 19651981, Dennis Hastert was a popular teacher and wrestling coach in yorkville illinois. Now prosecutors allege the former House Speaker had agreed to pay 3. 5 million to someone as they referred to only as individual a. , to compensate and conceal his prior misconduct against that person. According to the documents from june 2010 through april 2012, half thest made 15 withdrawals of 50,000 each. That caught the attention of the banks. The immune system often has a hard time telling the difference between a normal cell and cancer cell but a specific mutation present in about 15 to 20 of colon cancers causes the cells to become very different from normal. They theorize the cells would be much harder for the bodys immune system to find.
