suspending brady for four games for using under-inflated footballs in the a.f.c. championship. the patriots will be fined $1 million and lose their first-round pick in the nfl draft next year and their fourth-round choice in 2017. elaine quijano has more on this breaking story. elaine? >> reporter: scott, the nfl cited two factors in its decision -- violation of the playing rules and failure to cooperate in the subsequent investigation. the suspension of brady is without pay for the first four games of the 2015 season. in a letter to the quarterback nfl executive troy vincent told the four-time super bowl champion, "the report established that there is substantial and credible evidence to conclude you were at least generally aware of the actions of the patriots' employees involved in the deflation of the football. the report documents your failure to cooperate fully and candidly with the investigation including by refusing to produce any relevant electronic evidence. those included e-mails and texts." brady will be allowed to take part in all off season training camp and preseason activities. the patriots were fined $1 million and forced to forfeit two draft picks. vincent told the organization in a letter that the nfl investigation found the patriots violated league policy on the integrity of the game and enforcement of competitive rules. the letter also cited evidence in the wells' report that there was an ongoing plan by certain patriots' employees to deflate footballs before games and to hide those activities. when the wells report came out last week patriots' owner robert kraft said it did not include any hard evidence of deliberate deflation of footballs. john jastremski and mcnally have been suspended without pay for their role in the incident. we tried contacting tom brady's agent. it's very likely brady will appeal the decision. scott, the report found no wrongdoing by head coach bill belichick. he received no punishment. >> pelley: and
