They require people to shovel their sidewalks within 48 hours. But will not ticket you right away. Theyll give you a warning. Iowa city is a little different. Youre actually required to clear your sidewalk 24 hours after a oneinch or more snowfall. Iowa city. Cedar falls. We found out she weighed three pounds and she had to weigh eight pounds 14 ounces. Her transplant is now scheduled for january. A family of five has a utility worker to thank for saving their lives. The worker went inside their home and woke them up after their house caught fire. Everyone made it out safely. A day at the beach turns into a frenzy. Thats why i remember it exactly. He got the news. Stage 4 cancer. We had never heard of pancreatic cancer. Ernies pancreatic cancer wasnt detected until it was too late. Sometimes with breast cancer, theres a lump. With all these different kinds of cancers, theres a precursor, but with pancreatic cancer, theres nothing. Janie schimt did not have a lot of time. It was probably the greatest memories we have. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in myrtle beach with the entire family. From there, lots of pictures, videos and kisses with a favorite grandfather and devoted spouse. Ernie would go into hospice care eight months after his diagnosis. He said, i really want to make it to our 46th anniversary, and i said, dont you dare. he was in so much pain. Ernie passed away a week later, leaving behind a loving family, a cherished farm and compassionate communities. Between jesup, raymond and gilbertville, everywhere i went afterwards, it just made me feel good. Jerry standup this makes janie feel good too. Lining the streets of jesup, purple ribbons to raise awareness of a disease many feel does not get enough attention. One young woman in cedar rapids agrees. You should look just like me. But that wasnt the case ernie schmit a complete stranger passed away from pancreatic cancer, crystal knew something was wrong. A dance instructor for cr spirits, she felt very weak. I kept telling my mom, i cant keep dancing because i feel like im going to pass out. two months later, the news no one wants to hear. I was numb. I dont have cancer. Im only 20. The next three to six months of crystals life was about saving her life. First came surgery to remove the tumors tumors that might have been growing inside her body for five years. Then chemo. We are so happy. Shes young, she beat it, we have all these prayers. Theres no way a rare form similar to what steve jobs had. This sucks. It might sound crazy, but i eat healthy, i sleep well, i dont drink pop. I dont drink a lot. You start asking yourself all those things and why did i get this . I was a good person in all the time. But she doesnt. She doesnt have time to. video of her pointing to her watch. its ok to have your days, but then youve got to suck it up and fight. Im on chemo right hanging in there and teaching my girls. And doing what i love. The chemo is eating the skin off her feet. Shes not losing her hair, but she can barely walk. But she will walk on. Right down the aisle very soon. Shes now planning a wedding. You guys hold onto your thighs if you have to. You probably dont have much for thighs. Watching crystal teach, dance and smile. Keep living. Do what you love. You see a young woman ready to beat pancreatic cancer. Shes not thinking about the 7percent survival rate after five years. These are the numbers shes focused on. 1, 2, 3, 4 with a message of music, crystal hopes to recruit an army of support to win the battle for her and future patients. I think thats our job, bringing awareness to this horrible cancer that is silent. Im constantly fighting. Just keep living. Crystals mom says hope is such beautiful word and here is some hope. Researchers believe with just a drop of blood doctors may one day be able to detect pancreatic cancer in its early stages before it becomes deadly.
