"so, he needs to expand that jeb bush, marco rubio candidates who have an orginiation in place in south carolina will get a leg up on kasich." right now -- republicans prepare for the south carolina primaries -- while democrats assemble for the nevada caucuses -- both kicking off in tend days. we've got you covered -- macleod hageman -- kwwl news. south carolina democratic primaries kick off february 27th. while nevada's republican right nn, convicted felons are not allowed to vote..but the iowa supreme court may soon be making changes to that policy. the only y ay felons cannvote again is if their rights are restored by the governor. several civil rights groups are speaking out saying the court should change this and restore felon's vovoing rights before the presidential election this year. iowa is one of just three states with lifetime voting bans for felons - kentucky and florida are the others. the court could make a decision on this as early as this summer just before the november elections. continuing coverage.. fire officials are still trying to figure outwhat caused a fire inside a duplex. as of right now, they are leaning towards an electrical problem as the reason the fire started. the fire took place in a duplex building in waterloo yesterday morning. it took firefighters multiple hours to put out the fire. one person is taken into custody following a chase and shooting involving a police officer. 25-year-old austin allen was after leading police on a chase in des moines this morning. officers tried to pull over allen but he kept driving. eventually allen lost control and was forced to stop - that's when an officer got out to arrest him. however, allen started driving towards the officer and the officer fired at him. allen got past the officer but was arrested a short time later. multiple charges are filed against allen including assault with a weapon on a police officer. a man leads deputies on a chase after taking off during his courtroom hearing. according to the des moines register, the man showed up for a hearing related to a charge of driving while barred, but bolted from the courtroom. deputies chased the man from downtown des moines to 6th avenue and walnut street, near the u.s. bank. officers eventually found the man hiding in the basement of the bank. the suspect was returned to the courtroom. a body is found in a home that was destroyed by a fire. the burlington fire department responded to the fire tuesday the fire marshal says that while fighting thth fire, it ww discovered that one person was unaccounted for and might still been in the house. after the fire was extinguished, investigators found the body. the cause of the fire remains under investtation. a tree-killing beetle is making it's way through the midwest -- and now it's in iowa city. the bugs -- called emerald ash borers -- have been found on the university of iowa's campus. kwwl's hillary maglin has the story. experts say it's been a long time coming - emerald ash (sot) "i don't like that at (sot. cg: andrew dahl/campus arborist) "it is a very troublesome pest for ash trees. it kills them all." ash borees tunnel through the tree's bark - cutting off water and nutrient circulation to the limbs. (sot. cg: hillary maglin) "experts say these curved markings underneath the bark of ash trees are a dead giveaway wood peckers around the trees is anothth sign of ash borers. (sot) "the woodpeckers sense that the borers are in here, and they wear the bark off." many of the ash trees here in gibson square on campus have traces of woodpecker damage in the bark - and willbe been cut down - which upsets some students. (sot. cg: jared blatz/student) "it kind of makes it concerning for such an urban area that needs trees in it to help the air around the place."
