this morning that he got the call last night that part of his roof was gone, and water was seeping into a big part of the building. but they there was also some pretty extensive storm damage in jo daviess county, near menominee. i'll be checking that out this afternoon, and we'll have that for you tonight at five and six. we've got you covered live here in dubuque, brad hanson...kwwl news. no final word on the amount of damage done, but ferguson says it's for sure in the tens of thousands of dollars range, and quite possibly up over one hundred thousand dollars worth of damage. more damage in dubuque from the storms -- trees landing on this house. we got this video from our coverage partners at t-h media. luckily the couple who lives here wasn't home at the time. when they got home -- they were most concerned about their cats... here's damage in cedar falls... the roof of a barn was partially wiped out in the storm and was replaced with hay bales to hold the structure in place... damage could be seen all over iowa after the strong storms ripped through the state yesterday -- trees being knocked over including this one on gilbertville road in black hawk county. luckily nobody was hurt. and in cedar falls -- the storms blew the roof off a building which houses hay. this is from corning -- southwest of des moines. some trees down -- along with some siding damage here... and here's video out of iconium...where powerful winds and possibly a tornado damaged homes and vehicles. it's easy to see the extent of the damage... here's some footage of a walmart in knoxville. you see the truck flipped over, debris on the ground. then they made us go to the out there was a gas leak so they us all get out. winds in the area reportedly reached 60 to 70 miles per hour... this video is also from near knoxville... where the winds completely tipped over another truck on highway 14... a string of tornados have been confirmed today as a result of the storms... one possibly touched down near the des moines international airport... you can see some of the damage here at the airport's air national guard base... and maybe you weren't at home when the storms hit -- maybe you were out grocery shopping. some eastern iowa hyvee locations had a different solution for customers. tornado warnings in linn, johnson, and black hawk counties. at a waterloo hyvee, employees had customers go to the meat lockers to wait out the storm.... way back to here. back to these lockers are the most logical place for customers to go. since they're sturdy and far from windows... the weather is definitely having an impact on day to day business. the city of waterloo is postponing curbside garbage pickup for today because of the high winds. the city says yard waste carts will be picked up as normal. regular thursday customers will have their garbage carts picked up on monday instead. we also checked in with cedar rapids -- which says collection will be normal there today. turning now to a tragedy along an eastern iowa highway.... a woman died when she was hit by a semi -- as she walked along highway 30 in linn county last when she was hit. the woman's name is not being released. a police chase ends with a crash. officers say it started just before 5 this morning with a traffic stop. the driver - jason wilson - took off, avenue in waterloo... wilson then allegedly ran from police -- officers caught him shortly thereafter. the passenger in the car got hurt in the crash -- and police say wilson is now in jail. the heated debate over a pipeline which would run through iowa continues today... the iowa utilities board is holding a public hearing on the bakken pipeline which would carry crude oil from north dakota...through iowa...to a distribution center in illinois. many are concerned about the company -- dakota access -- using emininent domain, which basically lets the government use your property for a project. hundreds of people are signed up to speak at today's hearing in boone. this week middle school students are learning about wheelchair basketball -- by trying it out for themselves. sportablility of iowa aiming to teach students about those living with disabilities. the program director says students are usually unsure about the wheelchairs at first -- but the sport has been growing on them... passing to each other and making students will compete against teachers during a special assembly tomorrow. the cedar falls volleyball team playing in the state semifinals this morning in cedar rapids... the tigers took on bettendorf for a chance to advance to the state championship -- and fell short after tough five-set battle... cedar falls ends its season with a 37- and-5 record... tomorrow's championship match between ankeny centennial and bettendorf begins at 10 a-m in the u-s cellular center... coming up... a man adds some death-defying adventure to the happiest place earth... and... a synchronized walking routine thousands... the details are on the way... the sun is coming out across eastern iowa. we'll let right back with your storm track seven forecast. "i'm running hard and i'm a long haul process and chris christie telling a crowd in bettendorf he was exctied to get off the stage tuesday and head to iowa yesterday. at his town halls -- he says you don't have to write things down and let my staff review it does town halls like that. i rodham clinton the new jersey governor's national polling numbers are so low, he did not make the main in new hampshire today to file their papers for that state's primary. on the democrat's side of the race -- the remaining three contenders will make their way back to iowa for their next debate this weekend. hillary clinton, bernie sanders and martin o'malley will be back on the stage together in des moines saturday night for the debate. this one takes place on the campus of drake university... and the action kicks off at 8 o'clock saturday night. there were no tickets available to the general public for this debate -- with drake students and staff having the opportunity to attend by entering a lottery... an elementary school is trying something new to help bring children closer together. kristin smith tells us about a place where students can build relationships. it's still easy to be lonely. kids don't always feel like they fit in. but at tussing elementary school in colonial heights... designed to bring the kids together. "well whenever you don't have a friend you can come over here and sit on it and then a place where students can build relationships. "it is a visual reminder to be friends and work together whether they sit on it or not." principal david staples put the rock on the playground after at a school in massachusetts. the concept is simple. kids who are feeling lonely or excluded go to the rock... then other children respond.
