for your complete weather information. here is additional forecast information from the kwwl stormtrack 7 weather team: a few clouds are tracking into the area this morning, but otherwise we will see mainly sunny skies for veterans day. temperatures are not too bad right now.. in the 30s to the mid 40s... but we may not climb too much more today with north winds at 5 to 15 mph....they will be mainly 10-15 mph will gust higher for much of the day before dying down this evening. while cooler than we actually closer to where we should be for veterans day... in the upper 40s to mid 50s. gusty coming up. breaking news this morning: a fire in waterloo. it's on commercial street. this is a live look at the scene. police say it's an abandoned apartment buildling. but firefighters did find someone inside and helped him out -- and we've been told he should be ok. old building... built in 1906. we'll continue to follow this story throughout the morning right here on today in iowa. now to the white house transition: donald trump spent his first day in washington since being elected president -- and had a very big meeting. edward lawrence is in washington where trump will take office in 70 days. donald trump called his first day "my number-one priority in the coming two months is to try to facilitate a transition that ensures our president-elect is successful." in a remarkable image the president-elect and president obama shook hands. "mr. president, it was a great honor being with you and i look forward to being with you many many more times in the future. thank you sir." trump opening the door to seek the president's counsel in the future. hous sounds like the meeting might've been at least a little less awkward than some might have expected." the president elect went on to tour the spot where he will be inaugurated...with house speaker paul mitch mcconnell avoiding protesters at every step. "they send these soldiers over so young to fight these wars and then they don't live up to their promises of taking care of them when they come home." senator joni earst says she plans to look into what happened between curtis and the v-a. senator ernst is also wi answers about the death of brandon ketchum. the marine served two tours in iraq and one in afghanistan. his family says he tried to get help at the v-a in iowa city but they claim he was turned away. he took his own life in july. senator joni ernst sent a letter to the v-a one week later demanding an investigation. she's still waiting for a response. the state fire marshal is looking into a fire that destroyed a home -- the day the sale was being of their home in cedar falls. when they came back -- it was burning. bryan says they ran inside to save their pets. but could not grab anything else. "there's just been a lot of good years it just rips you, it rips you apart." the family was planning on moving into their new home later this month-- but w owners - bryan says he doesn't know what will happen, but insurance is involved. crews have a big fire on their hands along a highway. a semi caught fire in california. no one got hurt -- but the fire spread -- covering about an acre. a week after a tragedy in iowa, two more officers have been ambushed. outside of pittsburgh, one officer was killed and another wounded. they were investigating a domestic case when the suspect started shooting at them. how to personalize this. you call like that and unfortunately it did happen to us. so to personalize it, it's going to take years to personalize something like this." investigators say the suspect -- along with a pregnant woman -- were found dead inside the home. today in court -- the two girls accused in the slender man stabbing case. it's a motions hearing. the girls were 12 when please a fictional horror character called slender man. the two girls --- now both 14-years old --- are charged as adults in the attempted murder case in wisconsin. reports from several psychologists will be considered in court today. an iowa man on trial, accused of murdering his girlfriend, is now charged with assaulting an inmate. eddie hicks was arrested last year.. police say he stabbed his girlfriend more than 100 times at partners at the telegrpah herald, hicks admitted throwing punches at another inmate after apparently feeling threatened. he now faces assault charges, along with first degree murder. three protesters go to extremes to stop the construction of a pipeline in iowa. they crawled into the pipeline and refused to come out. this video is from boone county. oxygen was pumped into the pipeline to keep them safe. the protesters say they are trying o -- and, they are willing to risk everything. the des moines register says -- each protester was pulled out after police tied rope to their hands or legs. a broadcasting legend comes back to iowa -- to make a donation to the university of iowa library. tom brokaw has a soft spot for iowa. he went to the university of iowa for a year. he's giving some things he's collected over the years as a interview with a young bill gates--- and pictures with nancy reagan ---but his favorite... "absolutely insane. huge butterflies. i haven't seen these guys in about eight months. so it's been a long time, way too long."
