closed captioning will resume shortly " " closed captioning a las vegas man says his car was towed away and held in a impound lot for days -- even though he was legally parked at his own apartment complex. now he wants the tow company -- quality towing -- to be held responsible. fox5's eric hilt talked with the man about what according to nevada law -- a spot needs this sign to be legally considered a handicapped parking spot. the spot the car owner was towed from didn't have the sign and his apartment complex already knew that he was okay to park there...but it still took days to get his car back -- and he's not the only one whos faced these towing problems. "this is not a handicapped parking space..." tomas manarpaac says he spent two days without a car...after it was towed away from a legal parking spot with no warning. "they came in and took it upon their own volition to tow my car away" he says quality towing told him the car was parked in a handicapped spot. but his apartment complex agrees with even though old paint on the ground would make it look that way. "you can put anything you want on the asphalt, that doesnt mean you're illegally parked, there's no sign, there's no handicapped spot... what i find disturbing is that a company that's in the business of towing cars away doesn't know the law pertaining to what constitutes an illegally parked car" so his car was towed away -- and it spent two days in this lot. na door ...while he tried to get his only mode of transportation back. "what i was told this was sunday when this happened that there was nobody there i would speak with when this happened" nats typing all it took was a quick search to find several people complaining about similar situations. so we reached out to quality towing to get their side of the story -- and ran into the same problems as thomas. up in person and each time workers said the person we needed to talk to wasn't there. "i am ecstatic to see it again" after his apartment complex got involved, thomas got his car back without having to pay, but says he still hasn't gotten an apology from quality towing. "i dont have an apology, i missed two days of work, and i don't get that time back" soc toss to weather a slight chance of showers overnight and through thursday with a high of 89 degrees. we dry out and warm up for friday and saturday with highs around 90. we pick up southwest gusts on saturday to 25 mph, then to 30 mph on sunday. the strongest wind looks to be on southwest. we'll see 85 as a high on sunday, then around 80 degrees for highs monday through wednesday. two people hurt - after a car crashes into wall. it happened downtown - just before noon - near tenth street and bonneville. two people believed to be in the car were taken to u-m-c trauma... and are survive. lanes were clsoed during the investigation. no word on what caused the crash. a young girl - injured on a school playground. it's a story we brought you yesterday here on fox5. the girl's mother says she broke her arm - and was sent back to class untreated and in pain. here's video of the girl in the hospital. the injury happened at coral academy... on nellis air force base. the mother says the girl fell from the monkey bars - and was sent to the office - becae wasn't a full-time nurse on hand. as a charter school - they are not required to have one by law. the mother says the girl was sent back to class for more than three hours - and was hysterically crying. a rep for the school says the girl did not appear to be in distress - and said yesterday - it has a full-time nurse. after that story ran - many of you reached out to us with questions and stories of your own. so we took those back to coral academy.... and reached out to the clark county school district - to see how their policy compares. fox 5's kathleen with the difference between the two. guys... coral academy answered some of my questions today. they did clarify that they were in the process of hiring a nurse when this all happened. now... they do have a nurse on the campus and they say they're confident something like this won't happen again. we wanted to know what it's like in other schools in our area... not just charter schools... so we took our questions to the clark county school district. if the student is injured and they're brought to a school nurse or the health office in the clark county school district, they're probably going to be met by a first aid safety assistant and if the nurse is on campus at the time she would probably evaluate the student as well. everything the clark county school district does is outlined very clearly in this guide. for serious injuries and illness it is a requirement that the first aid safety assistant and or the school nurse make contact with as a charter school, coral academy, doesn't abide by the same guidelines. we've gone back and forth with them via email all day... trying to find out what their policy is when it comes to contacting parents... and so far.. nothing. our facebook page was flooded with parents demanding answers...saying they think a parent should have been notified immediately. some even described similar situations their kids have gone through in ccsd schools. what we found... the protocol is specific for every situation. we have electronic meca we document every child that comes into the health office. the district says it employs about one registered nurse for every two schools... and if a child reports an injury they're checked out by an aid or a nurse... if a nurse is not at the school and the injury is more than just something minor... both a nurse and the parent are immediately contacted. " anytime there's an accute illness or injury that is considered moderate or severe, or perhaps the child is too young or incapable of communicating what occured to them at school, we would make that parent contact." if a child is sent back to class... they notify the teacher of specific that child's condition... and they also give the parent those instructions. again... this is with the clark county school district... coral academy is a charter school that is not in the district and we are still waiting to hear their contact policy or changes they've made since this incident. shots fired... at a south carolina middle school. now - police say the teenage suspect killed his father... before heading to t politics should never co before basic health care, but that's the choice joe heck keeps making. women like me rely on planned parenthood for checkups and cancer screenings, but congressman joe heck voted ten times to take away their funding. heck even threatened to shut down the federal government to eliminate funding for planned parenthood. shutting down the government... taking away access to lifesaving care... just to score political points. joe heck should be ashamed. women vote is responsible for the content of this advertising. i think my strongest asset, maybe by far, is my temperament. i'd like to punch him in the face, i'll tell you. i would bomb the [bleep] out of 'em. i could stand in the middle of 5th avenue and shoot somebody and i wouldn't lose any voters, okay? and you can tell them to go [bleep] themselves. get him out of here! get him out of here! es usa action is responsible for the content of this advertising. don't believe... don't believe... don't believe joe heck's attacks. catherine cortez masto has always served with integrity. as a federal prosecutor and attorney general... she made sex trafficking a felony crime. she worked with the bush and obama administrations to combat terrorism. as attorney general, she helped reduce crime. that's why she's endorsed by law enforcement across nevada. catherine cortez masto. catherine cortez masto. i trust her to keep us safe. i'm catherine cortez masto, and i approve this message.
