"anytime your near the holidays it makes things worse people are trying to go different places and the hinderance on getting where you need to go just mood" "i go to the airport a lot so that part.. i guess it's just part of our landscape for now until it's all done" the entire project should be finished by next october. there is some good news... the county says tonight should be the time the full freeway is closed for the project. to be shut down from time to time. ftffnll. also tonight n- dot has closed two lanes along southbound 95. the right lanes are shut down between rancho drive and the spaghetti bowl. the lanes will be closed from 9 pm to 6 am... today and tomorrow. for a complete list of closures and alternate routes.... download our fox5 mobile app... it's free in the app store. a man is critically injured after being hit by a bus in north las vegas. it happened just before seven this evening. police say the man was not in a marked crosswalk-- when he was hit by a cat bus. he was taken to u-m-c in critical condition. the driver of the bus stayed on the scene and is cooperating with police. all lanes of traffic reopened... about an hour ago. the calendar still says fall... but it's starting to feel like winter in the valley. chief meteorologist ted pretty joins us with a first look at the forecast. the fall chill has staying below average for most of the week ahead. the clouds moving through today are associated with a disturbance moving across our area tonight. showers will stay north and east of the las vegas valley, but it will turn breezy for your monday evening with 15 to 25 mph winds. overnight lows bottom out in the low 40s. skies clear out tuesday; we'll stay breezy with high temperatures hold in the mid 50s. wednesday and thursday morning will start out with temperatures in the mid 30s around las vegas; our lowest temperatures so far this season. neighborhoods on the outskirts of the valley will be hovering around freezing for morning lows. high temperatures will be in the 50s. another system drops in friday bringing more clouds with gusty winds across the area. we look to home--- broken into, electronics, money, and valuables stolen, and so he decides to buy a security system... well it was through that system he was able to watch in real time as a man was robbed at gun point right in front of his house this weekend. fox5's miguel martinez valle spoke to the homeowner... and he has that video for us now. miguel there were about two weeks between the time brett palmer's home was broken into and burglarized and this weekend when he says a victim he doesn't even know was robbed at gun point right in front of his house... palmer believes the men that robbed the victim, were the same people who stole from him... " pointed it at him, the guy / kid gave him his money, hit him with the gun, ran away" this gun-point robbery footage was captured on brett palmers home surveillance cameras... " got one here and i got one here by my door, and i just put that one there after the latest incident, it was inside my house" but he wasn't the victim of this crime... and he doesn't know anyone involved... or even why they " i don't know the victim, i don't know the suspects, but it looks like a staged drugs deal..." his connections: the robbery happened outside his house... and the suspects may be linked to a home burglary he was a victim of a few weeks ago... " they match the description of the suspects from the home burglary yea" metro's been investigating the prior home burglary... today palmer sent them these videos... showing them the confrontation outside his home. " having surveillance both inside and outside is very critical" " both of the suspects ran out of this storm drain (and made their way over towards the front door)" " (same surveillance) (from the storm drain ) and made their way towards the front door, that's where they attacked the victim, took something from him,( surveillance video) before running away again" < cover with still shots of suspects and victim> " its very important that we identify that victim too... we want to know who they are, exactly what they were doing there in that location, what they had in their hands, and what they did directly afterwards, the suspects that is" " i hope it spurrs the police to be a little more proactive" palmer tells me there have been miltuple homes broken into in his gate in front of the storm drain to keep unwanted guests out... police tell me while other robberies have happened, they don't consider it a crime wave... they are hoping the victim of the robbery comes forward, police say they do recommend surveillance cameras to homeowners, because the more they can see and hear, the easier it is to solve their cases... one person is dead after an attack on ohio state university's campus.... "we have a vehicle that struck several pedestrians, we have gunshots fired, we have one down." : "i thought it was an accident initially. until the guy came out with a knife honestly. i wasn't processing all of it at once really." " police identified the suspect as -- abdul razak ali artan--an eighteen-year-old o-s-u student. a nearby police officer quickly responded...shooti ng and killing the suspect. eleven people were injured in the attack -- one critically. coming up at 10:30 we will have more on the suspect behind the attack. the ohio state university shooting is causing the country to tighten up security on college campuses. see what they're doing to protect students. the chief says even though they've never had to deal with an active shooter situation-- it doesn't mean they're not prepared. u-n-l-v police go through at least a dozen seminars and two active shooters simulations every year. alerts also go out to students and staff. "if you are able to lock yourself in place, you can if it's near by. if you can escape from the building we ask you to do that and as a last resort we ask you to basically fight for your life" the police also ask everyone near campus to stay alert and if you see something-- say something. police are looking for the man they say sexually assaulted an 8- year-old girl on thanksgiving day. police have released this sketch.... it happened thursday afternoon at an apartment complex near buffalo and lake mead. the girl and her little brother were playing outside when the man approached... and convinced the boy to go inside. girl. ""anyone that would victimize a child like this is absolutely one of the worst offenders we have and this is absolutely the type of person we have all hands on deck and we use every resource to go after." " the suspect is described as a white male with a thin build and light brown hair or salt and pepper hair. if you recognize this man or have information.. you are asked to call police immediately. a dog is dead after being tied to a stake and shot multiple times at a shooting range in pahrump... and now the sheriff says it looks like the shooter was using the dog for target practice. she also says this has already been a hectic month for nye county. the dog was killed at the "bella vista shooting range" last month -- but the department needs the public's help because they are all out of leads. "it's very disturbing when you have someone who will just shoot a dog, you know? that child." "nichelle thomas" has launched a facebook campaign -- asking classmates to give up one thing for a day and use that money to help others. people are posting pictures of the things they've given with the hashtag "my sacrifice for the day" it can be anything -- even if it's something simple like a cup of coffee or lunch. the student is a navy veteran herself -- so she says she understands the struggles they face. "it's a lot of confusion for the people that don't drive it regularily, they don't know when to get over then they get over at the last second. so i've seen a lot more accidents in the time that they've been doing the construction. butted to "it means i have to get out earlier to get here on time and traffic is already a hinderence and this makes it even worse" some good news for those for those drivers--- we're told this is the last full freeway closure that's planned here. the entire project is expected to wrap up next october. also tonight n- dot has closed two lanes along southbound 95. that's happening between rancho drive and the spaghetti bowl. the lanes will be closed from 9 pm to 6 am... both tomorrow. police have named a suspect wanted in at least a half a dozen armed robberies around the valley... and now they need your help finding him... this is lamar griffin... police say between november 8th and 12th -- he committed six armed robberies. they also say he should be considered armed and dangerous... anyone with information on griffin-- is asked to call crimestoppers at 702-385-55-55. you can remain anonymous. tell you about.... a plane carrying finalists from the south american football championship has crashed in colombia south america... that's according to the associated press. the brazilian soccer team was on its way to medellin's international airport when it went down. there were 72 people on board at the time. it's not clear if there are any survivors. an ohio state university student--- shot and killed-- after going on an attack on campus. as brynn ginras explains... police are now trying to figure out what led up to the violent attack. tonight university police naming the suspected attacker as o-s-u student abdul razak ali artan. a federal law enforcement official tells cnn he was an 18 year-old somali citizen who lived in the area. a u.s. official says he was a legal permanent resident. investigators are still working on determining motive ... and can't rule out terror at this point chief kim jacobs: consider that it is that possibility. you know, we had an attack earlier this year with a man with a knife causing multiple injuries. so we're always aware that that's the potential, and we're going to continue to look at that. that's why our federal partners are here and helping." police say the attacker deliberately jumped the curb with a car and rammed into a group of pedestrians. a federal official tells cnn the car used in the attack was registered to a family member. monica moll: "around 9:52 a.m., the emergency dispatch center got a report that a vehicle had struck pedestrians." he then continued to attackslashing people with a knife "he exited the vehicle and used a butcher knife to start cutting pedestrians." less than a minute later, the attacker was confronted by a police officer. chief craig stone: "he engaged the suspect and he eliminated the threat. the suspect is doa." within minutes of the attack, a campus wide alert went out, reporting an "active shooter on campus. run hide fight." a federal law enforcement official tells cnn the gunshots reported may have been of the police officer shooting the attacker. on campus, doorways and hid while waiting for the all-clear. anthony falzarano: "our teacher ran and locked the door. at the same time we all saw a ton -- heard a bunch of sirens, a bunch of, like, cop cars all just started flooding towards that area." rachel lemaster: "it's scary, it was really scary. we barricaded ourselves in our rooms like we were taught, turned off our lights, and just hunkered down" at least ten people were injured in the attack none of the injuries police say the social media declaration on today... complaining about the treatment of muslims jury selection continued today in the charleston church shooting trial -- after a judge approved the suspect's request to be his own attorney in a death penalty case. dylann roof's request was accepted this morning... but the judge admitted it was an "unwise" decision. last week... the judge found roof competent to stand trial. the 22-year-old is accused of shooting and killing nine black church members last year... during a bible study he faces more than 30 federal hate crime charges -- along with murder charges in the state court system. again, if he's convicted... he could face the death penalty. former green party presidential candidate jill stein ... is leading the charge to have votes recounted in several swing states -- three weeks after the presidential election. "i was asked many times during the campaign would i stand up and call for a recount if there were doubts about the reliability of the security of the vote and i always said ye who is declared winner. the american people deserve to have a voting system that we can trust. " three of the states in question-- include pennsylvania....wis consin....and michigan. michigan's secretary of state's office monday-- announced trump officially won its 16 electoral votes. former presidential candidate hillary clinton has joined stein's recount efforts in wisconsin. president elect donald trump is still working to fill his cabinet... and he's still looking for a new state... today former head of the c-i-a-- david petraeus made a visit to to the trump towers... " the meeting went really well. i was with him for about an hour. he walked us around the world, showed a great grasp of the variety of challenges that are out there. some of the opportunities as well. great conversation, we'll see where it goes from here." petraeus was once the top military commander in iraq and afghanistan. but he was sentenced to two years' probation and fined 100- thousand dollars la unauthorized removal and retention of classified information... and for sharing classified information with his lover. the scandal forced forced him to resign from the c-i-a in 20-12. petraeus has also been mentioned as a possible new secretary of defense. trump is also holding talks with mitt romney, senator bob corker of tennessee, and former new york mayor rudy giuliani for the role of america's top diplomat ""you can hear me....donald trump, baby!" what's up. we got some hillary (bleep) in here?"" a political rant is caught on camera-- midflight. a woman was on a delta airlines fright from atlanta to allentown... when the man stood up in the aisle and started yelling. the woman who posted the video-- says delta didn't handle the situation well-- the man was allowed to stay on the plane. "emma baum/passenger "he went off the plane for like 15 minutes, delaying our flight. then he came back on and said 'this is what you get for being a patrio the whole flight to hear and then sat down." " delta is now offering full refunds to the passengers on that flight. and the man who went on the rant has now been banned from the carrier for life. thousands of people are lining up in cuba -- for an official nine day mourning period -- paying tribute to longtime leader-- fidel castro. "this is the worst thing that has happened. the new generations have to learn to be like him, because he gave everything to us." gomez says: (translated) "it is a great source of pain. it is something that had to occur because we all must accept that fidel has died." " castro was also honored with a 21-gun salute and a planned mass . meanwhile -- here in the u-s... political leaders are weighing in on the impact of the longtime cuban leader's death. president-elect trump threatened on twitter to terminate the obama administrations recent outreach to cuba. but the white house says nothing should change. "josh earnest/white house press secretary: well at least from the u.s. stand point i wouldn't expect any impact on the kind of progress we're committed to making on our end to begin to normalize relations with cuba. " castro's ashes will stay at the ministry of defense in havana until wednesday before they are taken east... to "santiago de cuba" where his funeral and burial will take place. protests for higher minimum wage-- are planned across the country... and hundreds of uber drivers are planning to join other hourly worker in the fight. the group 'fight for 15' says uber drivers in several cities will put their foot on the brake... and march with other airport employees.. the uber drivers are pushing for a 15-dollar minimum wage. uber has said in the past drivers in its top 20 u-s markets actually average more than 19-dollars an hour. but drivers complain of aggressive fare cuts and no accounting for expenses like gas, repairs and insurance. valley fast food workers are joining in on the national strike tomorrow. they are calling it a fight for 15 "day of distruption." the fight for 15 group says it will be their most protest yet" to show they won't back down in the face of newly elected politicians. two demonstrations are being planned for tomorrow at 6 a-m and 5 p-m at the mcdonalds across from the mirage. one chef is showing his support for the chicago cubs with a sweet tribute to the team. " : "everybody here, we're all cubs fans, so, you know being that the cubs won the world series, we just thought it was right to make wrigley field."
