" if at anytime it is brought ot my attention that you have communicated with her, your bail will be revoked and you will be held without bail until this case reaches it's conclusion" " burt faced similar charges back in 2011... filed by his then wife. after agreeing to counseling and community service-- they were dismissed. he is due back in court on february 5th. after months of negotiations.... teachers in clark county.... officially have a new contract. "it is a step in the right direction. it will certainly help. it's not going to solve our teacher shortage, but it will definitely help the teacher shortage. " the ccsd board of trustees-- unanimously approved a two year contract. under the agreement.... increases are retroactive to september. the new salaries on march first. should one of the largest school district's in the nation break up into mini districts? that's what was discussed during a town hall meeting tonight... where the public was able to voice their opinion. fox5s miguel martinez-valle joins us from las vegas city hall with what was said... the town hall tonight was an early step towards seeing what the best way to break up clark county school district would be , still not everyone believes making multiple school districts will solve the education problems in the valley clark county is the 5th largest school district in the country and assemblyman david gardner thinks thats a problem... assemblyman david gardner, " we have the largest rural district, as well as the largest urban district, and we have urban problems and we have rural problems and we have distance problems and we have transportation problems and its hard to get one group to get their mind wrapped around that." that looked to break up the school district into smaller precincts, that bill is now law and the town hall is the start of a year long conversation on the best way to re-organize . mayor lee, north las vegas " in our particular case we have a lot of schools that these trailers on them, and we have dollars that come district but don't follow the urban children and the problems in those areas." the town hall officials from all over the valley, as well as parents and teachers... as a part of a reorganization study they hope to have done by asked the public questions on their concerns with the if they thought the school district was too big, and if they believed the size had a negative effect on education... most answered yes... annalise castor, break free ccsd " you know i think the fact that clark county school district wasn't here right now was the perfect representation of the fact that were just too big, and they need to let go of that control and really let it be returned to the neighborhoods and their schools." still others dont think breaking up ccsd is going to solve the inequality between schools in different parts of the valley rachael richardson, mother " it comes from schools individually you know and it becomes a matter of quality aren't deemed as quality, a lot teachers don't want to work with kids that don't make their numbers look good." they fear the precincts would actually hurt at risk schools and leave them behind... some people at the town hall tonight said they didnt think enough notice was given and they also wondered why it was scheduled at the same time as a school board meeting... ccsd did send video representation to the meeting, live from town hall fox5 news local las vegas clark county currently educates about 75 percent of nevadan children celine dion's 73 year-old husband, rene angelil, has died after a long battle with cancer. not guilty your honor. according to the arrest report james burt a veteran metro officer got into an argument with his live in girlfriend. she told arresting officers when she tried to leave burt dragged her out of her car into the house injuring her neck and bruising her right breast. he eventually let her leave apologizing then asking her to help argued that because his client was a honorably discharged marine, a police officer and that he co-operated with the arresting officers bail should not be set high. but the d.a.'s office wanted nothing to do with that argument based on another domestic violence arrest in 2011. he put that victim on the couch, his knee on her chest, she can't breath grabbed her around her jaw. in both situations there are injuries that are consistent with the events of the victims burt's attorney responded by pointing out the previous case had been dismissed as your honor knows dismissals don't fall out of the sky. he's presumed innocent until proven guilty in this case, the state elected to dismiss those charges. it turns out according to las vegas justice court that case was dismissed because burt forested $1,000 cash bond, agreed to stay out of trouble, did counciling and 100 hours of community service. the judge reminded burt's attorney that the prior case was a negotiated deal then added. in thinking about this case and the doesn't he get a benefit because of what he does, or does he get treated differently because of what he does and quite frankly he should be treated like every other defendant in this courtroom in the end the judge set bail at $60 thousand for kidnap 1st degree charge and $15 thousand for domestic battery. she also warned burt not to contact his alleged victim should he post the $75 thousand bail if at anytime it is brought ot my attention that you have communicated with her, your bail will be revoked and you will be held without bail until this case reaches it's conclusion lk f5n llv in the previous case burt was relieved of duty pending an investigation but was then reinstated after the charges were dismissed in 2011. he is due back in court on february 5th. the woman accused of killing a little girl and attacking a blackjack dealer at the bellagio - plead guilty. brenda stokes avoided the death penalty by accepting a plea she will spend the rest of her life in prison... without the possibility of parole.. she also waives her right to appeal. today she admitted to murdering 10 year old jade morris...and slashing a co- workers face with razor blades. december 21st stokes was arrested for that attack at the bellagio... a few days later jade's body was found stabbed in the desert in north las vegas. jade's family tells fox 5 today was a win... and are thankful they don't have to relive the young girl's death during a trial...
