Almost immediately after his death the conversation began on who will replace him. Nominate a successor which has to be approved by the senate. Most republican candidates dont want a democratic president replacing the conservative Antonin Scalia. Its a decision that could tip the scales to give liberals an during last nights Republican Debate in South Carolina all candidates said obama should leave the nomination to the next credit except jeb bush who said he has a right to nominate his replacement. He doesnt think the president would pick a judge that could win consensus support. Democrats say he should choose someone immediately. Bernie sanders touched on it in a dinner in denver last night and said this about his republican colleagues. Apparently they believe that the constitution doesnt allow a democratic president to bring forth a nominee to replace justice scalia. Hillary clinton also at the democratic dinner offering her condolences to scalias family and vocal about the president s responsibility to nominate a new justice. President obama said he would nominate someone to the bench and thats exactly what he should be doing and Mitch Mcconnell should follow the constitutional process. Besides the discussion over who should nominate his replacement gop hopefuls debated Foreign Policy and immigration. Mudslinging continue between donald trump and jeb bush and trump said george w. Bush lied to the public about the iraq war. Heres how jeb bush responded. I could care less about the insults donald trump gives to me. He enjoys it and im glad hes happy about it. I am sick and tired of him going after my family. Bush family popular in South Carolina jeered at trump after the attack in john kasich Whose Campaign was revived in New Hampshire defended his decision to expand medicaid and marco rubio defended attacks from ted cruz who attacked his immigration legislation. I cant say enough good things about miniature roses. They will look great in the house for more than two weeks but if you can keep them alive until early may and plant them outside, they will last forever. They are very hardy, heartier than tea roses. They hate living indoors. If you can keep them alive. Lets talk about these because im sure a lot of gentlemen went to the store and bought a nice bouquet of red roses. This has been in the news these are looking pretty sad. Guess what happened . Clever guppies, they didnt do what you did which is cut the stems underneath water like you told me to. Thats not as important as getting them underwater. Both of them are true. If you cut the roses, if you cut the bottom on the stem date can try and dont get fed. The first goal is air, not water. Its like and amber alert and their heads troop exactly like this. Its a cautionary tale for anyone getting or giving roses today. Whether its a guy or girl, we dont want sad roses. We want them fresh for as long as possible. Im sorry whos ever roses we picked up. We officially tortured your roses. Worse comes to worse cut bowl of water. Winter weather advisory in high country and valentines day advisory. Air quality issues and also the potential for heartshaped gifts and rings may be. Power face the laboratories of democracy and we live in one of the most interesting. The country to legalize marijuana because its easier to change the constitution. What you put something there its hard to change it. For some thats a feather in our cap and to others it scary. For instance the oil and gas industry sending off amendments to ban or restrict fracking. On todays program to colorado conservatives with different views. Former state senator pushing for an amendment to the state constitution that would make all future amendments harder to pass. And the independent institute says no way with power from the people. Thanks for being here and taking the time. Talk about the proposals. You have to concepts in the various drafts you come up one requires 2 of the voters in all state Senate Districts and the others of 55 super majority of the vote in the actual election if theres an amendment. Why those approaches . We want them both together but we have to get it through the title Board Hearing in march so ideally the proposal requires 2 of signatures across the state. If youre going to amend the constitution you need to go to durango or craig and asked the people who lived there up we should amend it and then a higher hurdle with 55 to amend the constitution. Its ridiculously easy in colorado to amend the constitution. In the last 10 years there have been no fewer than two dozen attempts to amend our constitution and lock it away in the constitution, whatever i do it is pushed by whatever special interest as opposed to 2 statutory changes. Lets get this straight Power Initiative to the referendum system is a key part of colorado history for over 100 years and a check and balance to people in power and special interest which is why records and meetings. We have transparency in the taxpayer bill of rights and term limits. These are things elected individuals never place on themselves. It wont affect jerry or dan and makes it easy for them because it keeps the competition low but for those of us who have change and i put a lot of things on the ballot, anyone who says its easy to get things on the balance or to change the constitution hasnt tried. Its very difficult especially if you are not a risk interest like the people who are trying to change this. Coming in to change the constitution and the bad rack document that directs us how to operate our government should be harder to change. Like our national constitution. The state legislature can refer things to the ballot at a cost of nothing, what you want the same threshold for statutory questions as we do for a constitutional question and what is separating that . I am the government higher document status. Greg has it right that right now why would you choose to go to the statutory level of you can change the constitution at the same amount of trouble and lock it in . You lowered the threshold for statutory changes. This is something the legislature can do themselves and you dont have to go through an initiative to do it and make that change. What every special interest wants to changes make it harder to change the constitution instead of easier to change statute. Trust me, make it easier would save me a lot of trouble. Youd still have the differentials. I be happy to make it easier to change statute through the Initiative Process. I think it should be a higher hurdle to amend the constitution. Proposal to amend the contribution touch the constitution the other 20 is locked away and its like you are stuck with the bad tattoo forever. Forever. Very rarely does the constitution that changed. The legislature puts out hundreds of bills every year. Very rarely . 150 times 150 times. There are 150 amendments in the constitution. If you look at alabama and others who have more and longer constitutions than we have its difficult to change this. What you are trying to do is disempower the citizens of colorado to give more power to special interests who can afford to do this. Of trying to protect individual liberty of the citizens of colorado from special interests who want to we would have open term limits. Term limits enjoy 65 percent right now. It passed with 54 . Marijuana amendment 64 passed with 55. 3 and you drew the line at 55. Is that a coincidence . If you smoke, go ahead. If you look at the history of questions that have passed, 55 seems to be a sweet spot. Its not such a high hurdle that nothing makes it but its high enough that a protect individual liberty against the passions of the moment. You and i both work really hard against gun control measures remember im the one who pointed out one guncontrol measure would ban the sale of common shotguns and you successfully pointed out bans the sale of most magazines even though thats been ignored. If an initiative to do either or both of those had been on that a terrible evil event like newtown had happened, you can see how something that normally wouldnt pass would pass in the passion of the moment and the constitution would be amended. You are undermining the thought that the people of colorado are stupid. What they cant do was understand these issues. Keep in mind when the Initiative Process started we had years where we had 31 Different Things on the ballot placed on by initiatives and referendums. Somehow the people in colorado in 1912 could handle it and two years ago there were 150 things suggested to go on the ballot and only three of them made it on the ballot that year. Only one of them passed unfortunately it was the one i expensive process unless you are dan ritchie. Can snatch liberty from individuals in colorado. You see why people who use that method to tell us how we should live our lifes want to protect it. Taxpayers bill of rights. None of those things would happen and if you want to lose your Second Amendment rights to the passion of the moment and stay with the process that makes it easy to amend the constitution. If youd rather on the other hand protect individual liberties against special interests than side with me. I trust the people of colorado more than i trust rich guys. Since you are trying to amend the constitution for the purpose of this conversation lets have you back again. Thanks both for your time. Next is meet the press on 9news and we will see you back here this sunday morning, the sudden death of Justice Antonin Scalia and the rarest of events, a vacancy on the Supreme Court election. How the fight over his replacement could paralyze the senate and all of washington. Well hear from four republican president ial candidates, donald trump, ted cruz, marco rubio and john kasich. Plus, that wild Republican Debate last night. You are a principle you are the single biggest liar. When you point to his own liar
