The can comcast outage many wondering what happened. We want to get to amelia this morning. Theres a fuel spill on i25 and almeida. What can you tell us about that. What we know so far as sky 9 flies over the scene, multiple lanes are blocked on northbound i25 between santa fe and almeida. Crews have arrived right now. We have a tow truck. It started with a large semi truck that stalled out on the road. Were not sure if the truck hit front of the truck. There is a dump truck carrying some sort of material that will be spread across the spill to soak up all of the liquid. Its obviously a hazard as cars drive through with the fuel across the roads. Northbound i25 is down to a single lane getting through in the northbound stretch. Come out to the cdot cameras. A big backup has developed behind the scene. Northbound slowdowns between colorado and downing street. Heading right through the bridges. This has potential to impact us throughout the morning. Live views across the maps show that the slowdowns have dropped the speeds down to the single digits. That big line of red will go down towards colorado and has the potential to get much worse. Please plan ahead. Use hampton over to colorado or university to head in the northbound direction and access spear to get into downtown or cherry creek. Right now it is a 23minute drive and usually at this time minutes. So i have a feeling this will get much, much worse. Our average speeds are already down in the 30s. That is such a difficult way to start the day. For us, high clouds are over the area. They have kept us warm overnight. We are actually in the mid50s already this morning. It is cloudy over the area. As far as rain and snow goes, it is hanging up in the mountains. Look how mild it is. 50s and 60s this morning. I am seeing some cooler air up around logan county. Ill be watching that during the morning and see how south that moves. Thunder snow through mountain areas this morning, especially the Elk Mountains and the Loveland Pass area. Some areas of showers there. Some of those may be making it as far east as red feather lakes. We have the high terrain coming up along the pass area. Generally less than a tenth of an inch for area thats get mountain areas. For us, a couple hundredths of inch is all we will do as we move into the 70s today. Do not get used to that. I want to talk a little bit about background here. Glenn turned down the denver post debate. Bennett turned down the cbs4 debate. But both agreed to debate on 9 news tonight. We spoke to both candidates over the past few there have been many developments since the interviews with them. When it comes to key issues, the feeling about their opponent wont change. I think his position that he has taken, he cant work with any elected democrats. The problem with washington as he said over and over again during the primary debate is the republicans in washington have been too collaborative. That would be an unhelpful republicans to vote for the iran deal and the Affordable Care act. And all of the Clean Water Initiative thats are basically causing harm here in colorado. Today he will be visiting his dads Campaign Office in greeley. Hillary clinton is holding an event in pueblo on wednesday. And corey, back to the republicans are still trying to figure out who theyre going to vote for and how to move forward. That is for sure. The third in line for president is not supporting either candidate. Now he is just focusing on congressional races. He is done defending trump. He will campaign to maintain the House Majority if clinton is elected. Trump says ryan should stop fighting him and focus on issue affecting the co hacking on the upcoming election was a topic in the debate. Raising the question is the u. S. Election hackable . The fbi says no, it is not. They say it is not possible because the actual ballots are mostly off line. But individual incidents here and there can undermine the faith in the system. Well, police are asking for help to find somebody who caused a fourcar crash that killed one person. That person then got out of the on southbound colorado boulevard near 40th. The car hit a prius that started a Chain Reaction with two more cars. The driver of the prius was killed. The driver who started the thing jumped out of the car and ran to a gas station and left with someone who was there. Police say he is a light skinned black male in his 20s with braids and may have blood on his face. Seeing thunder snow in the mountains this morning. Fast forward to this afternoon when things begin to change taking a look at our forecast for conditions this afternoon. We will continue to see rain and snow in some mountain areas. That rainsnow line jumping up around 10,000 feet. Some showers over the front range and eastern plains. Dont really have a lot of water in them. We will have clouds, fog and drizzle tomorrow morning. The big feature tonight after sunset is the wind. Its going to shift and come out of the north. East. Taking us from the 70s today down into the 30s tonight. With not much of a rebound tomorrow afternoon. Literally blowing in colder weather. Yes, indeed. Thank you, marty. One neighboring state is not happy about colorados marijuana laws. Which state is blaming the federal government for the drug permeating across the southern border . But first. It can be cleaned and saved, but just abou gone. The carolinas still dealing with massive cleanup after North Carolina is the state hit hardest by hurricane matthew. Now fema leaders across the nation ar away as pennsylvania and missouri. The torrential rains caused serious flooding in many parts of the state. Many people have been trapped in their homes so they have been using rafts, boats and trucks to plow through the water. 19 people have died across four states, 11 in North Carolina. So difficult to watch that recovery down in North Carolina. And really throughout the we talked about it yesterday. Really hung up on the on the passes and ridgelines much thats what is happening this morning. Cooler air is off to the north. Its already sagging into the nebraska panhandle. I have seen some indication of that. What we will see in general today is the moisture hang along and west of the continental divide. Perhaps at times a couple of showers on the highway. Then this afternoon, small, very small light pockets of rain. Most of in the 70s yet again today. Similar to yesterday. With 50s and 60s in mountain areas. So we get a few areas of rain and snow in the mountains. Again the snow level is way high. Showers over the plains during the afternoon and evening that will be modest at best. And wont cover everyone. If you do manage to get a shower, youre looking at a tenth of an inch of rain or less. Very warm in southeastern colorado. Much cooler in wyoming. And as the cool air spills down out of the north after sunset this evening. So we will be watching for that as temperatures drop down into the 30s tonight. So about 20 degrees cooler than we are now. You have to bring in the absorbent material, build a berm around the spill to keep entire area and then scrape it up and potentially reapplying depending how much has been spilled. Right now its a 40minute delay coming in northbound into downtown denver. And i just tweeted this out. Its not an official prediction by any means but i would say we need to anticipate that these slowdowns could double if not ip c470 up to about 20th. These slowdowns need to be avoided by using alternate routes. University and colorado will connect you with cherry creek. Northbound monaco and quebec areas other ways to get around it. Please avoid north and southbound 25. There will be a curiosity factor as well. It sounds like a mess. Thank you for that. We do not have the number of gallons of fuel that were spilled on the highway. But take a look at the cd delay. Were looking at northbound right there leading up to the spill. All the way through the dtc. Here is a look at the delays that have already formed northbound santa fe. Down to 25. Northbound i25 at 7 miles per hour. Even the southbound stretch is northbound. 25 between the tech center and downtown. My suggestions for alternates would be northbound 225 to i70 to the east. Northbound quebec or monaco on your side streets east of the highway. And then further to the west, take a look at the size of this pumpkin. 1910 pounds of halloween fun. And a lot of seeds as you can imagine. Sydney from washington won a pumpkin contest in california. She takes the weighin seriously. Sending samples to labs to test it for fertilizer levels and nutrients. As bi didnt break any world records. The biggest is 2623 pound pumpkin. Yeah. But that one is pretty good. We are talking thousands of drivers impacted not only along northbound i25 but southbound as well. Theyve got crews on scene near the semitruck where the diesel fuel has leaked from. Crews have brought in the absorbent material and now are scraping up the material, trying to remove it from the scene. This is the view from sky 9. We about an hour. 51 minutes to get from c470 leading into downtown. Average speeds are now 17 miles per hour. The southbound impact not quite as bad but i do anticipate that we will see southbound curiosity delays. The views of the backups here are intense. Here is a live look at the scene. Flashing lights to the right. Emerson is a grid lock slowdown through the bridges. Logan, downing, much of the same. Backups approach colorado. As for the alternates, northbound la quebec are an option. 225 up to i70 further to the east. I25 linking up to hampton can help you get out to colorado or university. Darrell glenn recently changed his position over the weekend on donald trump, asking the mike pence to step into his place. This after the access hollywood tapes were released. When we spoke to bennett last week, he said that trump was unfit to be president. Thats his position. We could hear other topics like education, health care, the iran deal surface. We spoke to both candidates about one of those issues. All you have to do is look at Michael Bennets voting record. When you ask people if the deal was a good vote, if the Affordable Care act was a good vote, hes willing to double down on those issues. If you look where when i voted on that deal, iran had ten bombs worth of enriched uranium and within two to three months of breaking out a nuclear bomb. A man convicted of sex crimes will get another chance in the highest court. Today his attorney wills argue that he did not get a fair trial because of his race. Tarhonda thomas has been following this story for us. Tarhonda, his lawyers are appealing to the u. S. Supreme court. Yes, they are, gary. Thats after having the appeal rejected in the colorado Supreme Court. Today the decision will be left to the nations highest court. Records for rodriguez allege one of the jurors was biased. They say the juror, a man, made racial statements about mexican people. Rodriguez was accused of groping two teens at a racetrack in 2007 in aurora. The juror apparently said that rodriguez was guilty because, quote, mexican men take whatever they want, end quote. The juror also allegedly said that a hispanic witness in the case could not be trusted because he was an illegal. That witness was legally a u. S. Lawyers about the statements after rodriguez was convicted of three misdemeanors. He was ordered to go on probation and register as a sex offender. His lawyers asked for a new trial but the court declined citing the no impeachment rule that bars jurors from testifying about deliberations. That is why the Supreme Courts decision in this case is so important. It could impact many other cases. U. S. Supreme Court Justices will begin hearing arguments today. State of emergency is still in effect across the carolinas. In the last 24 hours, more than 1500 people have been pulled from rooftops and on top of cars. Some shuttled to safety by boats. Others pushed through the water on their own. To go in there and see everything upsidedown, you the grace of god, you know, i know you can get all of that back. But i dont see how now. 19 people have died in the states. In haiti, the number is up in the hundreds. Nearly 900 people have died. Desperate residents scrambled for aid after matthew tore through the region. They want to bring assistance to 17,000 people there. The money will provide food, clean Drinking Water and shelter. Of its lack of parking are having a hearing with city leaders today. The apartment complex is being built at the corner of 16th and humboldt. Neighbors protested with black balloons at the site on monday. The main issue is the building wont have parking meaning that residents will have to park on an already congested street. Because of this, the city stopped giving permits to smaller buildings but the appeal hearing is at 11 00 this g. Permits does not qualify for that this exact thing. A scary moment after the broncos game when gary kubiak was taken to the hospital now has an explanation. Kubiak went home from the condition. Of course we are learning more about that throughout the morning. Right now we want to go to a developing story. Denver police have arrested a man they say caused a deadly Chain Reaction crash and took off. Christine noel is joining us live on colorado boulevard where the deadly crash happened. Christine, we just heard from police there has been an arrest. Reporter yeah, corey. Just within the past hour we learned that denver Police Arrested the man who was involved in the run last night. They spent 12 hours searching for the man who caused the crash and hopped into a car with another driver and took off. This all happened shortly before 7 00 last night according to denver police. This man was driving a Dodge Challenger. He was speeding southbound down colorado boulevard when it hit a prius and then started a Chain Reaction, hitting two more vehicles. The driver of that prius was killed in the crash. After this collision, the driver got out, ran to the someone who quite possibly didnt know the series of events that unfolded. Until about an hour ago, investigators were still searching for that driver. Denver police say they arrested him near colorado boulevard and i70. We still dont know the identity of that driver or the extent of the charges that he faces. Im sure we will be learning more about that as the days come. All right. Thank you much. All right. Everything coming in out of the west which means when it comes downhill here in the front range, it tends to evaporate out. So we dont anticipate much activity for us here during the morning. Developing. They will be very few and very far between. And those folks who do manage to get rain down here on the plains wont get much at all. That leaves us with a day with a good bit of sunshine in the middle of the day with highs in the 70s. 60s in the foothills. We will continue with the i would characterize them as pockets of rain and snow in mountain areas, favoring west and northwest facing slopes. This evening, as cooler air continues to move in out of nebraska and wyoming, we will get a fe here. There wont be much to them. Generally less than a tenth of an inch on the plains. Drive times have now officially tripled from where they were starting off the morning rush. Southbounders are up to 20 minutes. Thats on the light side. We have the curiosity factor as you can see the action across the highway. I have refreshed all of our cameras here. Loaded up new views. This is the northbound stretch leading up backups at emerson, and at hampton further to the south. So officially those delays do begin at hampton. Other issues in the morning drive include the delay across northbound santa fe leading up to 25 itself. 6th avenue theres a crash at sheridan. Backups of 20 minutes coming out of golden have already accumulated behind that backup and crash. Further up to the north, southbound 25 is clear after should be 104th. The southbound wreck is clear.
