the community of bailey is still mourning the passing of a son, brother and deputy who was nate carrigan was shot while serving a high risk eviction notice and he did not survive. they are speaking out in the community about memories of him. >> he was a 13 year veteran of the sheriff's office as well as a baseball coach, football coach , he knew a lot of people and a lot of people knew him and say they will sure miss him. they escorted his body through town yesterday and they are lined up -- bailey is a small community so everybody knew him or knew of him. they say he is loved and will be missed. >> it's a state of shock. walk in. that's never going to happen again. >> this is so hard on all of the deputies and the community. they say that corporal carrigan his things and -- loves doing things in his community. in lieu of flowers they've asked for donations to a scholarship fund. there will be a special tribute to him on 9news.com. a man in jefferson county was around kids all the time, a teacher and swimming instructor, this morning facing charges of child pornography. they arrested lucas young on wednesday, a teacher at sierra elementary school in arvada. court records show the case started in september when he admitted he had child pornography on his computer but he claimed it was only because the computer has been hacked. they say he sent about a dozen images -- emails with images of child porn. he's been on paid leave since december 17. this morning we are gathering information about the great lengths that employees went to to save each other and more about the man who went on a crime spree. he shot somebody when he stole a truck and then went to his job at excel industries and shot someone in the factory parking lot. from there he went inside. one of the men he confronted has a young son who lives in lakewood. adam miller was helping colleagues get out of the building when he was shot. he will survive. more than a dozen people are hurt and three were killed before police took down the gunman. today a funeral service held to remember one of the kalamazoo, shooting -- kalamazoo, michigan shooting victims. she was one of six people who died last week in the random shooting spree there. an uber driver is accused of driving around and shooting people at three different locations. he's facing 16 charges including murder, assault with a feral any -- with a firearm possession. judge will -- whether a judge will order apple to help the fbi access the phone. if he rules in favor of the government, the tech giant would be forced to create a new customized software that would remove the passcode lock out on that seized phone. it's 6:06 now. the first of its kind for coors field, hosting its first nhl game ever this weekend when the avs host the detroit red wings. >> first-ever outdoor game -- hockey game in denver. she's -- cornet is out there -- corey rose is out there right now. >> i am pumped up. the first outdoor nhl hockey game, tonight's alumni game, tomorrow night is the big game. the current players from the i want to give you an idea of how coors field has been transformed. we're waiting for more sunlight to come in here to give you a better idea but i wanted to show you -- they have all of field. of course the boards and that's her up, and the crew has been working on 24 hour shifts to keep this ice perfect. 220f is what they want the ice at and for the safety of the players -- you can see them right now working on the ice. it all starts tonight at 5:00 featuring the best players from colorado's and detroit's past. and then tomorrow night, the current avalanche host the current red wings. gates opened two hours prior to the start of each game. parking passes are available online for pet -- $25-$35 per night depending on how close to the stadium the law is. also buy tickets for both nights at ticketmaster.com. if this is anything like the matchup earlier this month, you will want to be at coors field tomorrow night. the avs beat the wings in detroit, it went to a shootout and it was blake cobos make it -- sneaking one past peter broderick. they are both trying to get a win to stay in the playoff race. the avalanche are four points ahead for the second -- ahead of the minnesota wild for the second wild-card spot, with 19 games left on the schedule. detroit is battling for a wild- card spot in the eastern conference. it's going to be a huge game and fans are going to be so spoiled, because the weather is going to be incredible. now. is that right? about that section are seeing speeds about 20 miles per hour . also slowing westbound on i 76 where folks are traveling around 32 miles per hour. a whiter view around the city, still accident-free if you are traveling into the foothills, stronger winds found between idaho springs in loveland pass, but not strong enough to prompt any advisories. looks like you are okay to travel in that area. minor crash right now near the hov lane. but it doesn't seem to be causing a lot of delays. speeds are in the 60s, same goes for the other direction. guys? i started running too. >> a colorado connection to the shooting of the kansas factory. illiquid boy found out his father was inside the plant when the gunman started shooting, taking three lives before police shot and killed him. 15 people her including eight- year-old owen miller's dad. this little boys dad was helping a lot of people when he was confronted. >> right harlem -- right, he was confronted by the shooter himself. he was yelling the codeword for people to escape when he came face-to-face with the shooter. he was shot in the chest and leg. he is expected to survive. miller was able to contact her late last night and asked her to be very gentle and telling their son what happened and when their son heard he'd been shot he said quote that was mean. she says her ex-husband helped of this. >> he was yelling the codeword to evacuate to other employees, and he yelled it to a guy he thought -- he saw and the guy turned and said i know, and then shot at them. this morning we are learning much more about the shooter. he was served with a protection from abuse order from work shortly before the work -- the shooting. he believes that's what triggered the attack. >> thank you very much. flags have been lowered to half staff in colorado to honor corporal nate carrigan. he was shot and killed serving an eviction notice on wednesday. colleen ferreira joins us this morning and colleen, the park county sheriff's office says he knew -- sheriff says he knew it was a high risk situation but he never expected this. >> they say we sometimes take so many are grateful that they put their lives on the line for us. we go to bailey to see how they are honoring a friend and coworker. i don't like to think about the fact that is gone. to me, this is a slap in the face not only to my office, but to the community. all i can probably do is stand up here my head. -- stand up here and shake my head. if somebody has an issue, stand up here -- give me a call and we will find a peaceful resolution. they were just there to get them to leave the residence. peaceful -- peaceably. >> there was a higher level of concern for the deputies but we did not force the violent confrontation yesterday. we simply responded to the situation that was presented to us. >> the suspect is down, possible three patients -- >> the fact that this incident happened is just beyond comprehension at this time. it didn't need to come to this. >> i'd like to talk a little bit about nate carrigan. nate was a caring individual that went above and beyond. nate works tirelessly, he meant a lot to our community, he was the consummate law enforcement professional. his death will be hard on our agency and the loss will be felt for a long time. that should not have happened. >> carrigan was at the park county sheriff's office for 13 years as well as being a baseball coach and football coach for platte canyon high school. they said nate just gave him a baseball cap for the upcoming season. services are still being arranged. >> sad time for sure. thank you. a cherry creek school bus driver has been arrested after dropping off 30 kids, accused of driving drunk. a teacher reportedly called in the tip saying the 54-year-old michael hobbs smelled like alcohol. he took a blood test but the results are not back yet. he says he wasn't drunk, he says he was on medication for the flu. five podiums, five candidates but one big target. the remaining presidential 10th debate last night. >> right now ted cruz, marco rubio, second and third place respectively but the only candidate they were battling last night was front-runner donald trump who said, swing for the fences. the debate melted down at points with the candidates yelling over each other and even over the crowd. it was the last debate before the next week's super tuesday and caucuses. the next one scheduled for thursday of next week in detroit. all right colorado democrats will join those picking a candidate on super tuesday. hillary clinton organized early in the state already with most of the support of democratic state leaders. both candidates heard bernie sanders are focusing on southern states today. right now she has a slight edge over sanders in the looking forward to hosting here today and tomorrow. we're all about encouraging people to view new challenges as exciting opportunities rather than obstacles. it's the idea of climbing your personal
