A second rock slide closed i70 in Glenwood Canyon, and we have video from yesterdays slide. Amelia will have more information on how drivers can get around the mess, but first, we will check in with noel brennan, and things are too dangerous even for emergency crews to get in and start their work right now. Reporter at this point, cheryl, thats what we are hearing, and im just west from gypson, and im about 9 miles from where the rock slide occurred. This is the frontage road for i 70, and they are closing off the entrance where we are. We are told from the cdot supervisor here that its closed mile marker 131 to 116 right now, and thats basically from here to glenwood springs, and we are told in this slide there was a semitrailer hit this trailer, and at this point, we dont know if anyone was injure in the slide, but cdot telling me that crews are point. Helicopter and geologists to look at the slide from above to get in there. This is the second slide we have seen in 24 hours. We have pictures of the first one that happened nearby in Glenwood Canyon early yesterday morning, about 3 00, and we know it was Glenwood Canyon, and no injuries in that slide. Crews were able to remove the rocks and clear away all the debris, and they had all the lanes opened up about 7 45 last night, about an hour and a half after they had everything fully opened up on i70. Thats when the second slide happened, 9 30 last night, and we will stay on top of this. We will try to get a bit closer to see if we can get a look at see how the damage is on i70, and of course, if there are any injuries, and we will pass those along. Its going be a haake for a lot of people trying to get through the area, and lets check in with amelia. Theres a couple of detours if you want to get by . There are, and cdot just sent out one of their text message updates, and they just updated the information to let us know the best way to get around the closure with no estimated reopening time in mind, and what cdot is recommending is for u. S. 40 or 50, and those are pretty much it. A remote part of the state, and obviously i70 is the main corridor going through. We will tweet about this throughout the morning, and we will let you know when everything does reopen. Cdot has a lot of work to be done, and we are awaiting the pictures here as well. This morning, folks in boulder are dealing with a soggy mess a broken water main soaking a dozen homes, and it sent water gushing down the street on no norwood and oak avenues. We got up to get the shovels, and we were literally digging channels to try to deflect water away from the corner of the house where it was filling up. Cleanup crews used dumps to drain basements last night. The city sent out a release to do the repairs, but now we know the repairs have been finished. We are waiting to hear how badly the road is damaged. We did hear from a cdot field supervisor that the trailer of the semitruck was hit by the slide. We are just west of gypsum about 9 miles or so away from where the slide happened. There was a gate down here, and that is blocking the entrance to i70, and theres a cdot truck here, and a guy from cdot cars traveling around here, informing them of what is going on, and also directing them around the closure. We are told by the field supervisor here, a 15mile stretch of i70 is closed because of the most recent rock slide, and again, we are waiting to hear about possible injuries from this rock lied. The field supervisor says they are waiting far helicopter to go up in the air when the sun goes up, so they can get a better look at the damage and check to see if its unstable. The shutdown through Glenwood Canyon means the alternates of 40 and 50 will be in place. You should plan ahead and make adjustments accordingly.
