Cant forget the Labor Day Weekend is almost upon us with sunshine and more rain. A father admits to police he tried to kill his 2yearold son by crashing his car at 75 Miles Per Hour with the toddler not buckled up. According to court documents, Nathan Weitzel told the detectives, the reason he wanted to kill isaiah was because being a father was a big responsibility and he did not think he was man enough to raise a child. We have more information about ways people are helping the family on the driver of a second car possibly connected to a deadly hit and run last night. 26yearold Nicholas Richland was crossing alameda at lowell when he was hit by a Dodge Caliber and died at the scene. Police believe the caliber was racing a black sedan. Witnesses told officers they noticed the two cars at a red light revving their engines. When the light turned green, they took off at highway speeds. The 17yearold driving the caliber was arrested and faces accident. The second driver could also face charges. The drag racer who is driving the black sedan is not directly involved, that is, they did not contact the pedestrian as far as we can tell, but whats their complicity in this . In my opinion i would present that case to the d. A. And let them make the decision as to whether criminal charges should be filed. Police have not yet released the victims name. Denver police say they believe the man arrested for an assault on the high may be connected to another assault on that trail. 26yearold Demarcus Bogart was arrested over the weekend accused of assaulting a woman on the trail friday at east dartmouth avenue and south fourth street. There was another assault on the trail about a week before and the same suspect could be connected. Police are still investigating. Denver police are also trying to figure out what led up to two people being shot at sunday. Multiple suspects forced their way into the home armed with handguns and shot two people killing one of them. Hes been identified as 53year old frank chavez. The other victim is in the hospital in intensive care. Police are still waiting to speak to that person to learn more about what happened. Its not believed to be gang related. A man shot by a Denver Police officer over the weekend had a criminal record spanning 30 years. Saturday morning a woman called police about 409yearold Terry Salazar problems at her home. There were several warrants out for his arrest. When police arrived, salazar ran upstairs. Officers followed, heard a woman screaming, kicked in the door, say salazar had a knife, slashed at officers. They tried to stun gun him. He kept coming. Investigators say salazar backed the officers into a corner and lunged at them. One officer opened fire. That officer is on routine administrative leave. Salazar died at the hospital. Federal aviation officials commercial drone aircraft operating in the u. S. Within the year as the result of new safety rules that open the skies to them. Today some of the regulations for Unmanned Aircraft include a weight limit of 55 pounds. Theres a time restriction with drones flying only in daylight. Drones must also stay within the pilots visual line of sight. Commercial operators initially complained that the two new rules would be could rigid. The federal aviation granting exemptions for companies that shows they can use them safely. Importantly it also includes a provision that allows people to request waivers if they want to operate outside the parameters of whats included within the rule. One of the things that we really want to focus on, you know, is to change the perceptions of beelineness. Reporter the center works to teach those who are visually impaired how to live wi blindness doing things sighted people do a little differently. We can live full lives. We work. We have kids. We just do everything that anybody else can do. Reporter but could it be different . In the September Issue of National Geographic the magazine looks at efforts to end blindness including a 3 million prize offered by one visually impaired new york businessman. Ending blindness in and of itself is not a bad goal, but i reporter scott labar is president of the National Federation of the blind in colorado. He said the idea that people who are blind live in perpetual darkness is a bit of a myth. Sure. Lets try and eliminate various physical ailments if we, can but lets not send such a negative message about those conditions that it really causes people to believe that blindness is a tragedy. Com for more information. After news of price gouging the maker of epipens announced a new less expensive option. Why the deaths of more than 300 wild reindeer is called a natural disaster. Lightning in central norway has killed more than 300 wild of reindeer carcasses scattered across a field in the mountains. 323 animals were killed including 70 calves in the Lightning Storm friday. The agency said it was not uncommonly for reindeer or other wildlife to be killed by lightning strikes, but for it to occur in such large numbers was unheard of. After controversy over massive price mikes the company that sells epipens announced it will soon off a generic version. Mylan said it will launch the first generic epinephrine auto injector in a few costs 300, half of the brand name version. The two versions will be identical. The auto injector is preloaded with epinephrine and used when a person has a severe allergic reaction. This storm system is sitting across South Central colorado and parts of the san luis valley. With that counterclockwise flow it will once again wrap up all that moisture moving it into the front range by tomorrow afternoon. You can see the central part of the state picking up the most amount of rain showers around here, but some heavier pockets in northern colorado, aerial flood advisory in place for ports of weld and morgan counti and morgan counties until later on tonight. Right now just south of castle rock were watching light rain showers, thing getting going still in eastern El Paso County with flash flood warnings until about 7 45.
