it appears the sunrise and sunset an owe emergency of a wonderful game -- omen of a wonderful game that took place in denver tonight. we're going to take a break and be right back. from colorado's sports leader here's. >> reporter: hi, everybody. om the broncos beat the texans 20s 7-9 on -- 27-9 on monday night football. joined now by 9news broncos insider mike klis, brock osweiler held at just 131 yards passing. they say sometimes the best deal you make is the 1 you don't make. that looked like the case tonight. >> reporter: well, they saved 17.5 million basically going from brock osweiler's average salary to trevor siemian's. at left tackle, donald stephenson at right tackle. they were much ma lined with the rest -- maligned with the rest of the offensive line until tonight. you'll get cj anderson and von miller, but they got a lot of parts in light of the money that they saved on brock osweiler. brock looked overly careful tonight. >> they also got emmanuel sanders. >> reporter: paxton lynch is basically 2.2 million average the next four years. >> reporter: brock osweiler a few moments ago. let's listen to that. >> i would say dment. i thought we had a great week of preparation, great focus and to have a performance like today it's extremely disappointing, but i also think you need to give credit where credit's due and the broncos are a great football team. they're very well coached. they came to play in all three phases today. that secondary and defensive line made it very tough for us to move the football offensively today. so, you know, i think you need to tip your hat to them and we need to refocus and we need to, you know, really examine this tape extremely hard and we need to learn from better. i need to play better. i need to find a way to play better. there's nobody who is going to examine this game tape harder than myself. so we will find a way to clean this up, but at the end of the day when you're playing great football teams like we played tonight, field goals are only going to keep you in the game for so long. i think there was so much that was built up, you know, about myself and the broncos in this game and at the end of the day of it the houston texans versus we did not play a good enough football game to get this job done, but once again give credit where credit's due. the broncos are a great team. their crowd showed up tonight. they're very well coached and they came out ready to play for four quarters. we need to learn from this and get better. >> reporter: broncos are 5-2 tied for first place with the oakland raiders and in a perfect position to win sixth consecutive afc west title. next two weeks could decide, that back to back game divisions with the chargers and raiders. >> reporter: these are going to be two big games. tonight they got 190 yards on the ground. so many people were concerned about the rushing attack, questions about the offensive line, whether they would be able to get better after two disappointing performances. that kind of thing will help them with the next two games, but still they'll be tough. >> reporter: this was the find. the 190 yards rushing is the type of performance you need going into san diego. now san diego got their attention. i'm not sure they had their attention last week. the broncos will come out and play much better. i do anticipate them winning and it may well be a bit of a showdown against the raiders in oakland, but siemian, no one seems to like trevor siemian even though all he does is perform, perform efficiently. he worked off today tremendously and then the defense did what it was supposed to do against brock. he got rid of the ball quick. they didn't want him to get hit. he was extremely nervous. aqib talib said in the locker room he thought brock was really nervous. >> reporter: maybe you'll like siemian more after you hear what he had to say in the locker room. >> thank you very much. you found your best game today, the running game. they were running with a vengeance out there. >> those two guys carried out, front that paved the way for us and did a heck of a job, so credit to those guys. >> reporter: what changed because the first three drivers you guys go -- drives you guys go 3 and out and a couple touchdowns and you take over the game. >> kept chipping away, credit to those guys up front. it's not going to be pretty every time you go out. so it was good to see we kept chipping away and had a couple >> reporter: i know it's not a one on one thing, but it's got to be good to get one better than brock. >> i don't know too much about that. broncos versus texans, it was a great win for us. i think we needed it. that's that. it's a good locker room to be part of and happy to get the win. >> reporter: final thing, speaking of this locker room, we see game balls often go to players. head coach got one today. to get his first one against houston. i'm sure we'll have a few more, really happy for him and the team. >> reporter: broncos win 27-9. thank you, everyone, who joined us on channel 20 and channel 9 tonight. channel 9 the tonight show is
