9news reporter noel brennan spoke with Aurora Police this afternoon and theyre using this technology to try to help solve a cold case. They are. Theyre hoping this technology will lead to a break in the unsolved Bennett Family murder case from 1984. Youre looking at two composites of the suspect. One has been age progressed. A lab in virginia created these using the suspects dna. Aurora police are still looking for john detective steve connor is on the case. The man who broke into the bennetts home in january of 1984. There are no witnesses. Reporter no one saw who killed bruce and debra and their daughter melissa the day before her 8th birthday. Its one of the older unsolved cases that we have. Reporter while case files sat on shelves Technology Got better and better, first came if youd asked me five years ago, i would have said no way. How can you produce something from dna . Reporter the work was done by parabon nano labs in virginia. The company uses dna like a blueprint to make predictions about what someone looks like. Hair color, eye color, facial features, skin tone, whether or not they have freckles. Reporter pinpointing those physical details can be a huge help to police. They checked a couple people and say it was not a positive match. Thanks. A colorado mom managed to keep her 2yearold sons head above water, a selfless act that saved his life but took hers. This happened on lake powell in the southeast corner of houseboat. His mom Chelsea Russell of lakewood jumped in after him. Neither had a life jacket on. By the time russell grabbed her son the houseboat was a distance away. Another Family Member got the two before they went under water. The child was alive and awake on his mothers chest.
