Have you ever caught anybody . Oh yeah. I have called the city, public works, and it is useless. Reporter did you call the cops on anyone . You cant get through on them, a police line. Reporter the light of day reveals this street in front of john benwoods business to be one of the worse dumping hot spots. Anything imaginable, destruction, debris, dogs, it is across the board. Anything you find in the dump youll find here. Reporter what is the craziest thing that youve seen . Here is an example a trailer. Anything you can imagine it gets dumped here. Reporter on just the day we visited a trailer full of debris had been abandoned the night before. It has become increasingly worse. They take the side road to drive through this. Reporter who do you blame . The city. Reporter do you feel responsible for this . I feel responsible for every bad thing that happens in this city. It affects me. Reporter libby schaaf has been in office for two years and spent millions of trying to curb the problem. We spent 5. 5 million a year on picking up Illegal Dumping in oakland. According to the city during the last 12 months there were nearly 20,000 reports of Illegal Dumping, but during that same period the city only issued 65 citations. It didnt take us long to catch dumpers tossing mattresses, ditching debris, leaving trash everywhere. And outside his business just after sun down it took less than two hours before we spotted this truck. Hey, what are you guys doing . Why are you leaving this stuff here, you think its okay . We saw three men tossing gas cans and lightbulbs and buckets before realizing that they were caught on camera. Get the license plate number. Reporter where are you guys going to leave that stuff . 2 investigates tracked that truck license plate back to this auto shop less than a mile and a half away. Reporter hi, you do not want to go on camera . A woman who would only identify herself as rose said that the owner was out of town and initially denied knowing anything about the truck. Is this your truck registered . It came right back here yesterday. Despite insisting she didnt want to talk, rose came outside again and again. Its that truck thats over there on the corner thats parked with this license plate. They didnt go to the dump. That is the problem. The same truck with the same plate parked less than a block away. We take everything to the dumps, we are a well established business, we pay our taxes, we pay lots and lots of taxes to the city to keep the streets clean. Can the city handle this problem . We are just as frustrated as our residents in the Illegal Dumping happening in the city. Reporter schaaf says that the City Employees 38 workers to pick up trash seven days a week. Do you feel they could handle the volume . No. No, they cannot. Unless im messing something, picking up garbage is not the solution to stopping Illegal Dumping. A father drowned his 4yearold daughter in holy water at baptismal pool inside st. Johns Baptist Catholic church. We believe she was drowned and it was intentional. Reporter 42yearold Gerardo Ordaz and two of his children were the only people inside the Church Sunday night. It stays open for anyone who wishes to worship. But police say around 8 30 last night ordaz walked across the street from the church to the Police Department holding his 4 yearold daughter and screaming for help. He was naked at the time. The girl unresponsive was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Catholic Diocese of santa rosa released a statement on behalf of the churchs pastor saying, sunday night there was a tragedy in the church, a little girl lost her life. Both families have been attending the party. At this point they are not planning to file any charges. Reporter for the past week the family raised enough money to stay at a hotel in antioch. The 49yearold says that the family became homeless when their landlord put their home up for sale. Reporter the nurses that would sit by her hospital bed during their break. She says that they also went beyond their call of duty fixing another medical problem.
