the person responsible. >> 26 years old, but he is like a kid. like a little kid, just cheerful. >> reporter: eduardo saucedo's stepfather is stunned that his fun-loving son is lying in a hospital bed on life support. >> it hurts me to see him laying on the bed. okay young man able to bring so much laughter to those around him is now in a condition bringing tears to his loved ones. his son suffers from severe brain injury, and a broken leg. >> i love him just as i raised him, you know, since he was six and a half years old. we've been through so many things together as a family. >> reporter: last wednesday at the busy intersection around 5:00 a.m., a driver hit eduardo as he was riding his bicycle home from work. it was only his third day of his new job as a bakery but the driver left the scene. >> if it was an accident, and he didn't know, just come forward. and face, you know, the consequences. >> reporter: family members say eduardo is an avid sports fan and love the giants. they say the best way to describe him is that he's respectful of others. now they're struggling to come to terms with how this could happen to him. >> we want to see him walk and talk and be back to normal. and not in a coma or not on life support. >> the family is asking for prayers and they want justice. >> my theory of life is that -- he has destroyed my family. we're not going to be the same. i'm not going to be the same. >> reporter: the family says doctors have given them two options. take eduardo off life support or move him to a rehab facility. so doctors have not -- have told the family he's not likely to survive. the family refuses to give up hope. i've reached out to police about surveillance video from that intersection. and to ask them about a suspect vehicle description. so far i have not heard back. >> you have to believe that there's someone out there hopefully who knows something. amber lee in the south bay, thank you. now to san francisco where police say a man's body was found inside the westfield mall. the medical examiner has ruled it a homicide. police say they were notified around 10:15 this morning. management released a statement saying the investigation took place near the jessie street instrument -- entrance to bloomingdale. the body was found in a mall stairwell in that vicinity. a street vendor describes what he saw from police first arriving. >> out here popping some kettle corn. and three or four cop cars came speeding up to the curb and stopped. and there's a big suv that had pulled up and three cops got out of the car with machine guns drawn. and ran into the mall. >> the victim is only described as a white man in his 30s. police are reviewing source surveillance footage and talking to witnesses to try to establish some leads. all lanes of interstate 80 were shut down for 30 minutes this evening after a truck slammed into a disabled car. the highway patrol says that car broke down along eastbound 80, just past the junction where highway 37 -- the truck driver said he didn't see the disabled car. suv also got caught in the brush and flipped onto its roof. several people were hurt. all lanes reopened before 8:30. authorities want the public's help to find the woman suspected of abducting her 10- month-old son. san jose police say 32-year-old fatima michelle purnell had lost custody of the baby when she allegedly took him a month ago. authorities say they believe she is still in santa clara county and that the boy could be in need of medical care. >> what makes it even more serious is we don't know yet. we don't know the extent of the severity of his medical issues. and we are desperate to out. >> san jose police say purnell may be driving an older silver four-door hyundai with california license plate 6bxn752. new developments in one of the most destructive wildfires in state history. the valley fire killed four people and destroyed more than 1300 homes in lake simone and -- napa county. today we learned what caused it. cal fire says faulty wiring for hot tub is to blame. as ktvu's rob roth reports the case is being handed over to the district attorney. >> reporter: the valley fire is the third most destructive fire in california history. this afternoon cal fire investigators say they've determined the cause was a homeowner's faulty electrical hookup to a hot tub. investigators say the temperature of the faulty connection was almost 2000 degrees fahrenheit. the valley fire was caused by faulty residential electrical connection. the investigation uncovered evidence that a residential electrical connection sparked and ignited surrounding dry grass. >> reporter: ktvu visited that home in cobb a few days after the fire began last september. the home suffered only minor fire damage but others weren't as lucky. four people were killed, 2000 buildings were decimated. >> there's a permit required for electrical installation and to our knowledge we were unable to locate or identify a permit on file. >> reporter: the case is now in the hands of the lake county district attorney. >> it will be turned over to my legal staff to determine whether or not a crime has been committed. and whether the fact justify any charging of that individual. >> reporter: the d.a. says he's not sure what types of charges he would be pursuing if any. he's also not sure how long the investigation will take. in lake county, rob roth, ktvu fox 2 news. the eastern span of the bay bridge is slowly disappearing from the landscape. today demolition crews slowly lowered the last of five large trusses onto a barge. like the other parts of the birds that have come down, it will be taken to the port of oakland and dismantled for scrap. next to go are 14 smaller trusses that jut out from the oakland landing. caltrans expects to finish taking down the old spend sometime in 2018. a class action complaint was filed in the case of that leaning and syncing san francisco luxury high-rise. a group of four law firms filed the complaint against millennium partners and the trans bay joint powers authority which is building the transit center right next door. attorneys say homeowners at the millennium tower are reporting uneven floors, difficulty opening and closing drawers and cracks in the walls. lawyers blame the builders not entering the 60 story high-rise into the bedrock and they say construction of the transit center is only making the situation worse. meantime the south bay real estate market has crossed the million dollar mark. the national association of realtors says the median home in the metro area which includes san jose, sunnyvale and santa clara reached 1.05 -- $1.085 million. back and forth over donald trump second amendment, it was today's big topic on the campaign trail. trump denied that his remarks were meant to incite violence against hillary clinton. even so today the u.s. secret service says they've talked to the trump campaign and they did so more than once. fox news reporter carl cameron now with the latest on the campaign controversy. >> reporter: trailing in virginia pulse, donald trump who says hillary clinton would abolish the second amendment dug in today. >> we have to protect our second amendment which is under siege. >> [ cheers and applause ] >> under siege. >> reporter: for the second day in a row trump's attempt to rally those he calls second amendment people to block clinton from appointing liberal judges dominated the campaign trail. clinton herself weighed in. >> yesterday we witnessed the latest in a long line of casual comments from donald trump that crossed the line. his casual inciting of violence, every single one of these incidents shows us that donald trump simply does not have the temperament to be president and commander-in-chief of the united states. >> reporter: trump is facing bipartisan criticism for this remark yesterday that some thought could incite violence. >> if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. although the second amendment people, maybe there is. >> reporter: trump insists he was calling voters to political arms. >> you look at the power they have in terms of votes and that's what i was referring to. >> reporter: the national rifle association announced a $3 million blitz of attack ads on clinton. >> protected by armed guards for 30 years but she doesn't believe in your right to keep a gun at home for self-defense. and out of touch for good. >> reporter: the nra backs trump but even one republican shut down -- susan collins of maine the sixth republican u.s. editor to denounce trump said she took the the remarks as a rallying cry to activism. house speaker paul ryan whose endorsement often criticizes trump said he thought it was a failed attempt at humor. republican defections to clinton continue. former administration director of national intelligence former secretary of commerce carlos gutierrez and others are now touted on the clinton webpage under the banner together for america. some media reported this afternoon that the trump campaign had had a conversation with the secret service and said there was no intention to incite violence with yesterday's second amendment remark. trump this afternoon tweeted that no such conversation ever occurred. in sunrise florida, trump himself. as bryan llenas reports, he made it 21 floors up before police arrested him. >> reporter: it began around 3:30 p.m. eastern wednesday. >> the security officer came out and said what are you doing? there's a guy over there repelling off the side. >> reporter: a man using suction cups and climbing gear began scaling the side of trump tower. republican presidential nominee donald trump's namesake building. >> he took his basketball shorts off but he had more shorts underneath. and then he stood on the very end of the ledge and started applying suction cups. >> reporter: trump has a home and office in the building and the tower serves as campaign headquarters but the candidate was far from the building making campaign stops in virginia and florida. the scene was enough to prompt a massive police response. closing streets, causing traffic backups right at rush hour in busy midtown manhattan. and agent -- it generated rows of onlookers. police deployed large airbags as a precaution and officers began removing parts of windows and fence to communicate with the climber who played a game of cat and mouse climbing away trying to avoid police. finally just after 6:30 p.m. eastern, police rammed the climber and pulled him inside the 21st floor. down on the street cheers erupted. >> when he explained to us he wanted a personal meeting with mr. trump's, he posted a youtube video on tuesday, that youtube video explains he is an independent researcher and he wanted to meet with him and that's the reason why he was climbing. he is going to be psychologically evaluated and placed under arrest. >> reporter: identified as a 20- year-old male from virginia. he came into new york city and stayed at a hotel yesterday. he says he wanted a personal meeting with donald trump. he is now at bellevue hospital under mental evaluation. in new york city, bryan llenas, fox news. the trump organization called the stunt ridiculous and dangerous and added the nypd had better things to do. if mr. trump would hear he would be thanking law enforcement for the job they're doing. hundreds of striking court employees have agreed to mediation. strike has been going on for six days and it is set to continue during the talks. the walkout has disrupted operations at all 11 court houses in santa clara county with all but essential hearings postponed. the clerks are demanding a bigger payraise than the county is offering. they say they need that extra money to keep up with the cost of living. police have arrested a suspect in the killing of two people this week. the attempted killing of the third. police say 37-year-old francisco jesus hernandez shot into a vehicle near empire and gibraltar and they say that he killed juan ramos and alfonso ibanez junior. officers say a second suspect shot a third victim inside the vehicle before he and hernandez set the car on fire. prosecutors have charged hernandez with several counts including two for murder, he could potentially face life in prison or the death penalty. the second suspect is still at large, the third victim is expected to recover. a series of raids in contra costa county has netted two dozen allegedly game members. henry lee tells us officers say the streets of the bay area are safer now with those 24 suspects behind bars. >> there was 19 locations hit simultaneously. then we rolled back and hit two more. >> reporter: these men and women now in jail arrested during a raid authorities called operational make a red. the fbi and police have ties to the street gang and are responsible for shootings and attacks in contra costa county since last year. >> i will tell you these guys, these are bad guys. what they are doing are bad things. >> reporter: some 300 police officers raided two dozen homes. they seized 18 guns, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana, two cars and this boat which was kept in storage by gang members. officers seized $15,000. the defendants face charges that include conspiracy to commit murder and assault, drugs and weapons violations, witness intimidation and human trafficking. the c.h.p. says some of the suspects are responsible for several shootings on highway 4, more arrests are possible. >> the message is you may get away with it for a short time, but we have active investigations ongoing, we have people that are cooperating with us, you're not going to get away with it. >> reporter: with mass raids like this one, other gang member's often fill the leadership void, cops seize money drugs and guns all the time only to have suspects returned to the streets. we asked if these arrests would have any impact. >> we want to get the shooters off the streets so they stop shooting each other and retaliating. so we think if we get the right people, it makes a huge difference. >> reporter: to get the right people, the police worked together. >> every city has their own set of issues. we are all dealing with a lot of the same people. by working collaboratively, getting individuals in custody we are going to reduce crime. >> reporter: all the the fbi was involved, these defendants will be prosecuted in state court. in martinez, henry lot of it, all the way down to san jose, forecast for fog pretty much everywhere. that starts us off pretty cool around the bay but the heat starts on the inland bay valley. purples are 100. tomorrow we start to see return to upper 90s and low one hundreds in the far inland valley. and our inland valley we see some low 90s. warmer for your bay area thursday. drug agents have uncovered what's believed to be one of the largest indoor marijuana growing operations the central valley has ever seen. inside an otherwise vacant warehouse in stockton investigators found 40,000 marijuana plants. san joaquin county sheriff's department obtained a search warrant acting on a tip. they searched the warehouse yesterday and arrested three people at the scene. they also say they expect to make even more arrests. a protester takes to the street in the name of a 13-year- old. their anger over the sheriff's deputy promotion vented tonight at the farmers market. the 49ers return to their roots today. california's clean air laws we've cut toxic pollution. we're seeing fewing cases of asthma in kids. and the new clean energy economy has created more than half a million jobs. i'm tom steyer. developing news at solano community college in vacaville where flooding from a broken pipe has damaged several classrooms. this comes five days before the start of the fall semester. the pipe burst while construction crews were working on the roof of the building. the president of the college says ceiling tiles have come down in classrooms at the schools vacaville center annex. school officials say they are working to find an alternate location for classes, they promise school will start as planned on monday. new at 10:00 a protest in north bay during a weekly farmers market. the protesters are upset that a sonoma county sheriff's deputy was shot and killed -- who shot and killed a teenager has been promoted to sergeant. debora villalon with the somber message they had for the crowd. >> reporter: heather, some people are outraged, they consider the promotion an insult to the minority community. tonight they took a silent protest to the streets. >> we were walking through, silently. very peaceful with our signs. >> reporter: a few dozen protesters and an unconventional venue. >> [ music ] >> reporter: the wednesday night market in downtown santa rosa is a concert with craft and food vendors and farm stands thrown in. but the lighthearted mood was jarred by this tangible reminder of tragedy. teenager andy lopez shot and killed when a deputy mr. his replica weapon for the real thing. now newly promoted to sergeant. >> people get tired of protesting and protesting and seeing nothing change. three years later and now he's getting promoted? nothing has changed. >> public relations nightmare. >> reporter: some people believe it's too soon. emotions, to rob. >> the right to advance in his career. >> absolutely. maybe not here. >> remember, deputy gillhouse was cleared by multiple independent investigations. >> reporter: steve freitas explained the promotion on facebook. the actions were deemed justifiable force. >> he is highly-qualified and he will represent the sheriff's office well. >> reporter: the protesters saw support as they made several loops. some residents say the shooting was sad all around. but have moved on. >> have to be a pretty good cop to be promoted to a sergeants position position. most of these kids that are are shot are minorities. this stuff doesn't happen in upper-middle-class, doesn't happen up on the hill. it happens in the lower-class areas. the police are so ready to shoot but you can't have 1000 killings a year and all of them be justifiable. i've seen enough things on youtube that makes me question some of the shoot first, ask questions later. >> reporter: this wasn't the first time that protesters have crashed the wednesday night events. they say it won't be the last. sergeant gelhaus has not spoken publicly about what happened in 2013. he's not likely to do so until a civil suit against him and the department is resolved. back to you. >> debora villalon thank you. the volunteer shot and killed during a police training exercise. still ahead, what police are revealing about the accidental shooting that happened right in front of a crowd of onlookers. and have to help you declare your life and also branching out. lending your items to friends at no additional cost. >> my friend can borrow my tent, my brothers in town, he wants my golf clubs, you can text message and they can get it fulfilled through omni to their house. >> the service is limited to san francisco but the hope is to expand it throughout the bay area by the end of next year. heather? >> it is an interesting concept. now i know what i could do with my shoes. [ laughter ] >> reporter: exactly. a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit against twitter that had accused the company of supporting isis. the suit alleged that twitter provided support by allowing isis members to sign up for and use twitter accounts to spread their messages. the suit was filed by the family of school american contractors who were killed in jordan last year. the judge said twitter could not be held responsible for the actions or speech of its users. twitter says it's been working to monitor and remove content created by terrorist groups. city leaders say they feel the justice has finally been served following the deadly pipeline explosion six years ago. the city held a news conference this morning to talk about the verdicts in the pg&e criminal case. on tuesday a jury found the utility guilty of five counts of violating pipeline safety standards and one count of obstructing the federal investigation. the san mateo county district attorney says the utility has never taken responsibility for what happened. >> and i tell you that didn't happen. instead they fought this case tooth and nail. and i am grateful to the jury and the criminal justice system in the united states attorneys office for being able to accomplish this. >> reporter: the jury found pg&e not guilty on several other charges. the 2010 natural gas pipeline explosion and fire left eight people dead and destroyed 38 homes. pg&e faces a fine of up to $3 million. the mayor of san bruno says it isn't the money that matters but the message sent by those six guilty verdicts. now to san jose where a small plane overshot the runway at reed hillview airport today, crashed through a fence and came to a stop on busy tully road. ktvu's maureen naylor was the first reporter on the scene. she tells us a flight instructor was teaching a student when they ran into a problem. >> reporter: this teenage flight student walked away unharmed, after his lesson in takes a -- takeoffs and landings ended like this, the small plane he and his instructor were in crashed into the fence at san jose's reed hillview airport wednesday morning. >> that was the quote the pilot and the passengers had, not a scratch. they were fine. how long have you been instructing? >> 30 plus years. >> have you ever had anything like this? >> no. >> reporter: we met the flight instructor shortly after it happened as his cessna snap -- set in the middle of tully road. they got into trouble after they landed long and they didn't have enough power to take off again. >> i was at the controls of the time. basically what i would have done differently is that i would have gone around sooner. >> reporter: the airport was closed for an hour while crews used bold cutters to in closed while the plane was towed back to the hanger. the incident is called very rare. >> we haven't had an airplane go through the fence this direction. so it's very unusual. >> reporter: plains usually take off the other direction but were landing to the south because of windy conditions. >> this is a well-traveled road out here on tully road. there's cars coming and going at all times of the day. so very fortunate we did not have any additional accidents besides the fence is off. >> reporter: maureen naylor, ktvu fox 2 news. federal in guest -- invest it or say that a medical plane that crashed broke up during the flight but why that happened is still a mystery. investigators say the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit and tried to fly back to crescent city before the small plane crashed in humboldt county. the ntsb spoke to witnesses who reported a large flash in the sky before the crash. for people were killed, the pilot, nurse, paramedics and a patient. investigators say it could be a year before a final report is released. still to come a big step toward bringing high-speed rail to the bay area. also tesla largest store yet, and what makes this one different. it's heating up around here, tomorrow will be warmer. we talked about that. now as we go forward into your friday and saturday, significantly warmer. ♪ police in berkeley are investigating two recent robberies related to the pokemon go smartphone app. in each case the victim was walking and distracted by the game. the first robbery happened on july 12 on dana street when two people followed a woman playing pokemon go knocked her to the ground, and took off with her smartphone. two weeks later robbers targeted a man playing the game at civic center park. one of the men punched the victim in the face, grabbed his phone and jumped into a waiting car and took off. police arrested two suspects in connection with that robbery. that the robbers in the first case are still on the loose. >> at this point it appears as though they are crimes of opportunity. somebody has seen -- really at a distance, they sort of stand out like a candle in the dark. >> last week another man playing pokemon go also at civic center park was targeted in that case, the victim was able to hold onto his phone. had a similar story from san francisco where a robbery suspect is behind bars accused of trying to steal a smartphone from a man who was playing pokemon go. police say 23-year-old demario evans stole a man's phone as the man walked along 17th street . investigators say the victim chased evans but evans reached into his pocket claim to have a gun. the victim got the attention of police officers who were on patrol, they arrested evans on robbery charges. in the end it turned out he was not carrying a gun. rail officials have approved funding for upgrades to the caltrain system on the peninsula and the eventual arrival of bullet trains. the high-speed rail authority approved $713 million to electrify the track along the peninsula. $84million to elevate the track at three busy crossings in san mateo. this is just one piece of the puzzle for the $2 billion caltrain modernization project. caltrain hopes to have electric trains running in 2020. when the bullet train is finished it will share the tracks with caltrain. tesla is about to open its first store in san francisco. and its largest yet in the u.s. the 65,000 square-foot store is located at the corner of o'farrell. tesla may do product launches at this store because of the size. this store is scheduled to open on friday. wall street drifted lower today has global oil prices slumped. the dow was off 37 points, nasdaq fell 20, the snb dropped six. state lawmakers ordered an audit of the university of california and its president janet napolitano. asked to examine how her office spends its $686 million annual budget. assemblyman phil king of san francisco requested it. the legislature needs a clearer picture of the university suspending. the audit is expected to last eight months and comes at a time when you see is pushing for more funding and is expected to raise tuition next year. a major water conservation in the east bay reached a milestone today. east bay mud made its first service connection from a new recycled water pipeline in san ramon to central park at san ramon city hall. we showed you the groundbreaking back in june of last year. officials say the project will bring recycled water to 40 commercial and industrial customers in san ramon and danville. >> east bay mud has been delivered -- has been delivering recycled water since the '90s but we are making a big push now to connect a lot more customers and use it in a lot of good ways. >> east bay mud says the treated wastewater will be used for landscaping which will save 400,000 gallons of water each day. some of the money for the construction came from a california state grant for drought relief projects. a 73-year-old woman killed during a police training demonstration. the shooting that stunned everyone involved and has left plenty of people asking tough suv of the century. people in a north florida city our grief stricken at the loss of a beloved community volunteer who was shot to death while role-playing during a police training event. the police chief at punta gorda says a 73-year-old former librarian named mary knowlton had volunteered for an exercise at simulating lethal force. she was accidentally hit by a live round. her 75-year-old husband was among the other volunteers attending that training. he said -- is said to be devastated. >> we want to express our deepest sympathy for the family and friends of mary knowlton. we are shocked by this horrific accident and are grieving deeply over maries passing. -- mary's passing. >> the city says other officers have been assigned to make sure he is psychologically stable. tracking the person responsible. >> 26 years old, but he is like a kid. like a little kid, just cheerful. >> reporter: eduardo saucedo's stepfather is stunned that his fun-loving son is lying in a hospital bed on life support. >> it hurts me to see him laying on the bed. okay young man able to bring so much laughter to those around him is now in a condition bringing tears to his loved ones. his son suffers from severe brain injury, and a broken leg. >> i love him just as i raised him, you know, since he was six and a half years old. we've been through so many things together as a family. >> reporter: last wednesday at the busy intersection around 5:00 a.m., a driver hit eduardo as he was riding his bicycle home from work. it was only his third day of his new job as a bakery but the driver left the scene. >> if it was an accident, and he didn't know, just come forward. and face, you know, the consequences. >> reporter: family members say eduardo is an avid sports fan and love the giants. they say the best way to describe him is that he's respectful of others. now they're struggling to come to terms with how this could happen to him. >> we want to see him walk and talk and be back to normal. and not in a coma or not on life support. >> the family is asking for prayers and they want justice. >> my theory of life is that -- he has destroyed my family. we're not going to be the same. i'm not going to be the same. >> reporter: the family says doctors have given them two options. take eduardo off life support or move him to a rehab facility. so doctors have not -- have told the family he's not likely to survive. the family refuses to give up hope. i've reached out to police about surveillance video from that intersection. and to ask them about a suspect vehicle description. so far i have not heard back. >> you have to believe that there's someone out there hopefully who knows something. amber lee in the south bay, thank you. now to san francisco where police say a man's body was found inside the westfield mall. the medical examiner has ruled it a homicide. police say they were notified around 10:15 this morning. management released a statement saying the investigation took place near the jessie street instrument -- entrance to bloomingdale. the body was found in a mall stairwell in that vicinity. a street vendor describes what he saw from police first arriving. >> out here popping some kettle corn. and three or four cop cars came speeding up to the curb and stopped. and there's a big suv that had pulled up and three cops got out of the car with machine guns drawn. and ran into the mall. >> the victim is only described as a white man in his 30s. police are reviewing source surveillance footage and talking to witnesses to try to establish some leads. all lanes of interstate 80 were shut down for 30 minutes this evening after a truck slammed into a disabled car. the highway patrol says that car broke down along eastbound 80, just past the junction where highway 37 -- the truck driver said he didn't see the disabled car. suv also got caught in the brush and flipped onto its roof. several people were hurt. all lanes reopened before 8:30. authorities want the public's help to find the woman suspected of abducting her 10- month-old son. san jose police say 32-year-old fatima michelle purnell had lost custody of the baby when she allegedly took him a month ago. authorities say they believe she is still in santa clara county and that the boy could be in need of medical care. >> what makes it even more serious is we don't know yet. we don't know the extent of the severity of his medical issues. and we are desperate to out. >> san jose police say purnell may be driving an older silver four-door hyundai with california license plate 6bxn752. new developments in one of the most destructive wildfires in state history. the valley fire killed four people and destroyed more than 1300 homes in lake simone and -- napa county. today we learned what caused it. cal fire says faulty wiring for hot tub is to blame. as ktvu's rob roth reports the case is being handed over to the district attorney. >> reporter: the valley fire is the third most destructive fire in california history. this afternoon cal fire investigators say they've determined the cause was a homeowner's faulty electrical hookup to a hot tub. investigators say the temperature of the faulty connection was almost 2000 degrees fahrenheit. the valley fire was caused by faulty residential electrical connection. the investigation uncovered evidence that a residential electrical connection sparked and ignited surrounding dry grass. >> reporter: ktvu visited that home in cobb a few days after the fire began last september. the home suffered only minor fire damage but others weren't as lucky. four people were killed, 2000 buildings were decimated. >> there's a permit required for electrical installation and to our knowledge we were unable to locate or identify a permit on file. >> reporter: the case is now in the hands of the lake county district attorney. >> it will be turned over to my legal staff to determine whether or not a crime has been committed. and whether the fact justify any charging of that individual. >> reporter: the d.a. says he's not sure what types of charges he would be pursuing if any. he's also not sure how long the investigation will take. in lake county, rob roth, ktvu fox 2 news. the eastern span of the bay bridge is slowly disappearing from the landscape. today demolition crews slowly lowered the last of five large trusses onto a barge. like the other parts of the birds that have come down, it will be taken to the port of oakland and dismantled for scrap. next to go are 14 smaller trusses that jut out from the oakland landing. caltrans expects to finish taking down the old spend sometime in 2018. a class action complaint was filed in the case of that leaning and syncing san francisco luxury high-rise. a group of four law firms filed the complaint against millennium partners and the trans bay joint powers authority which is building the transit center right next door. attorneys say homeowners at the millennium tower are reporting uneven floors, difficulty opening and closing drawers and cracks in the walls. lawyers blame the builders not entering the 60 story high-rise into the bedrock and they say construction of the transit center is only making the situation worse. meantime the south bay real estate market has crossed the million dollar mark. the national association of realtors says the median home in the metro area which includes san jose, sunnyvale and santa clara reached 1.05 -- $1.085 million. back and forth over donald trump second amendment, it was today's big topic on the campaign trail. trump denied that his remarks were meant to incite violence against hillary clinton. even so today the u.s. secret service says they've talked to the trump campaign and they did so more than once. fox news reporter carl cameron now with the latest on the campaign controversy. >> reporter: trailing in virginia pulse, donald trump who says hillary clinton would abolish the second amendment dug in today. >> we have to protect our second amendment which is under siege. >> [ cheers and applause ] >> under siege. >> reporter: for the second day in a row trump's attempt to rally those he calls second amendment people to block clinton from appointing liberal judges dominated the campaign trail. clinton herself weighed in. >> yesterday we witnessed the latest in a long line of casual comments from donald trump that crossed the line. his casual inciting of violence, every single one of these incidents shows us that donald trump simply does not have the temperament to be president and commander-in-chief of the united states. >> reporter: trump is facing bipartisan criticism for this remark yesterday that some thought could incite violence. >> if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. although the second amendment people, maybe there is. >> reporter: trump insists he was calling voters to political arms. >> you look at the power they have in terms of votes and that's what i was referring to. >> reporter: the national rifle association announced a $3 million blitz of attack ads on clinton. >> protected by armed guards for 30 years but she doesn't believe in your right to keep a gun at home for self-defense. and out of touch for good. >> reporter: the nra backs trump but even one republican shut down -- susan collins of maine the sixth republican u.s. editor to denounce trump said she took the the remarks as a rallying cry to activism. house speaker paul ryan whose endorsement often criticizes trump said he thought it was a failed attempt at humor. republican defections to clinton continue. former administration director of national intelligence former secretary of commerce carlos gutierrez and others are now touted on the clinton webpage under the banner together for america. some media reported this afternoon that the trump campaign had had a conversation with the secret service and said there was no intention to incite violence with yesterday's second amendment remark. trump this afternoon tweeted that no such conversation ever occurred. in sunrise florida, trump himself. as bryan llenas reports, he made it 21 floors up before police arrested him. >> reporter: it began around 3:30 p.m. eastern wednesday. >> the security officer came out and said what are you doing? there's a guy over there repelling off the side. >> reporter: a man using suction cups and climbing gear began scaling the side of trump tower. republican presidential nominee donald trump's namesake building. >> he took his basketball shorts off but he had more shorts underneath. and then he stood on the very end of the ledge and started applying suction cups. >> reporter: trump has a home and office in the building and the tower serves as campaign headquarters but the candidate was far from the building making campaign stops in virginia and florida. the scene was enough to prompt a massive police response. closing streets, causing traffic backups right at rush hour in busy midtown manhattan. and agent -- it generated rows of onlookers. police deployed large airbags as a precaution and officers began removing parts of windows and fence to communicate with the climber who played a game of cat and mouse climbing away trying to avoid police. finally just after 6:30 p.m. eastern, police rammed the climber and pulled him inside the 21st floor. down on the street cheers erupted. >> when he explained to us he wanted a personal meeting with mr. trump's, he posted a youtube video on tuesday, that youtube video explains he is an independent researcher and he wanted to meet with him and that's the reason why he was climbing. he is going to be psychologically evaluated and placed under arrest. >> reporter: identified as a 20- year-old male from virginia. he came into new york city and stayed at a hotel yesterday. he says he wanted a personal meeting with donald trump. he is now at bellevue hospital under mental evaluation. in new york city, bryan llenas, fox news. the trump organization called the stunt ridiculous and dangerous and added the nypd had better things to do. if mr. trump would hear he would be thanking law enforcement for the job they're doing. hundreds of striking court employees have agreed to mediation. strike has been going on for six days and it is set to continue during the talks. the walkout has disrupted operations at all 11 court houses in santa clara county with all but essential hearings postponed. the clerks are demanding a bigger payraise than the county is offering. they say they need that extra money to keep up with the cost of living. police have arrested a suspect in the killing of two people this week. the attempted killing of the third. police say 37-year-old francisco jesus hernandez shot into a vehicle near empire and gibraltar and they say that he killed juan ramos and alfonso ibanez junior. officers say a second suspect shot a third victim inside the vehicle before he and hernandez set the car on fire. prosecutors have charged hernandez with several counts including two for murder, he could potentially face life in prison or the death penalty. the second suspect is still at large, the third victim is expected to recover. a series of raids in contra costa county has netted two dozen allegedly game members. henry lee tells us officers say the streets of the bay area are safer now with those 24 suspects behind bars. >> there was 19 locations hit simultaneously. then we rolled back and hit two more. >> reporter: these men and women now in jail arrested during a raid authorities called operational make a red. the fbi and police have ties to the street gang and are responsible for shootings and attacks in contra costa county since last year. >> i will tell you these guys, these are bad guys. what they are doing are bad things. >> reporter: some 300 police officers raided two dozen homes. they seized 18 guns, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana, two cars and this boat which was kept in storage by gang members. officers seized $15,000. the defendants face charges that include conspiracy to commit murder and assault, drugs and weapons violations, witness intimidation and human trafficking. the c.h.p. says some of the suspects are responsible for several shootings on highway 4, more arrests are possible. >> the message is you may get away with it for a short time, but we have active investigations ongoing, we have people that are cooperating with us, you're not going to get away with it. >> reporter: with mass raids like this one, other gang member's often fill the leadership void, cops seize money drugs and guns all the time only to have suspects returned to the streets. we asked if these arrests would have any impact. >> we want to get the shooters off the streets so they stop shooting each other and retaliating. so we think if we get the right people, it makes a huge difference. >> reporter: to get the right people, the police worked together. >> every city has their own set of issues. we are all dealing with a lot of the same people. by working collaboratively, getting individuals in custody we are going to reduce crime. >> reporter: all the the fbi was involved, these defendants will be prosecuted in state court. in martinez, henry we start to see return to upper 90s and low one hundreds in the far inland valley. and our inland valley we see some low 90s. warmer for your bay area thursday. drug agents have uncovered what's believed to be one of the largest indoor marijuana growing operations the central valley has ever seen. inside an otherwise vacant warehouse in stockton investigators found 40,000 marijuana plants. san joaquin county sheriff's department obtained a search warrant acting on a tip. they searched the warehouse yesterday and arrested three people at the scene. they also say they expect to make even more arrests. a protester takes to the street in the name of a 13-year- old. their anger over the sheriff's deputy promotion vented tonight at the farmers market. the 49ers return to their roots today. california's clean air laws we've cut toxic pollution. we're seeing fewing cases of asthma in kids. and the new clean energy economy has created more than half a million jobs. i'm tom steyer. developing news at solano community college in vacaville where flooding from a broken pipe has damaged several classrooms. this comes five days before the start of the fall semester. the pipe burst while construction crews were working on the roof of the building. the president of the college says ceiling tiles have come down in classrooms at the schools vacaville center annex. school officials say they are working to find an alternate location for classes, they promise school will start as planned on monday. new at 10:00 a protest in north bay during a weekly farmers market. the protesters are upset that a sonoma county sheriff's deputy was shot and killed -- who shot and killed a teenager has been promoted to sergeant. debora villalon with the somber message they had for the crowd. >> reporter: heather, some people are outraged, they consider the promotion an insult to the minority community. tonight they took a silent protest to the streets. >> we were walking through, silently. very peaceful with our signs. >> reporter: a few dozen protesters and an unconventional venue. >> [ music ] >> reporter: the wednesday night market in downtown santa rosa is a concert with craft and food vendors and farm stands thrown in. but the lighthearted mood was jarred by this tangible reminder of tragedy. teenager andy lopez shot and killed when a deputy mr. his replica weapon for the real thing. now newly promoted to sergeant. >> people get tired of protesting and protesting and seeing nothing change. three years later and now he's getting promoted? nothing has changed. >> public relations nightmare. >> reporter: some people believe it's too soon. emotions, to rob. >> the right to advance in his career. >> absolutely. maybe not here. >> remember, deputy gillhouse was cleared by multiple independent investigations. >> reporter: steve freitas explained the promotion on facebook. the actions were deemed justifiable force. >> he is highly-qualified and he will represent the sheriff's office well. >> reporter: the protesters saw support as they made several loops. some residents say the shooting was sad all around. but have moved on. >> have to be a pretty good cop to be promoted to a sergeants position position. most of these kids that are are shot are minorities. this stuff doesn't happen in upper-middle-class, doesn't happen up on the hill. it happens in the lower-class areas. the police are so ready to shoot but you can't have 1000 killings a year and all of them be justifiable. i've seen enough things on youtube that makes me question some of the shoot first, ask questions later. >> reporter: this wasn't the first time that protesters have crashed the wednesday night events. they say it won't be the last. sergeant gelhaus has not spoken publicly founded omni a service that touts itself as an on-demand storage for your positions. >> you hit a button, we show up and take it away, photograph inventory every single distinct item so you can get just what you want when you need it on demand. >> reporter: for privacy reasons, you can't show everything in the shop and how it is stored, but the app keeps your items similar to an online catalog at your disposal. we went along on a delivery. >> the customer wants an item -- looks like she's going camping or this week or whatever. so we're taking it back to her right now. >> hello. how are you? >> good. how are you? >> pretty good. >> the apartment doubles as her workspace. so every square inch is accounted for, having the app helps her simplify space while still doing her job. >> it's not taking up empty space in your home. you can order it and it is accessible whenever you need it. >> reporter: omni doesn't accept all items. anything too big for a single person to carry is not stored. if it can fit into a carry-on bag, sneakers or suits, it is $0.50 an item. if it's bigger than a carry-on, $3. if you have several items you want to keep, it's $7.50. but now the service is branching out. lending your items to friends at no additional cost. >> my friend can borrow my tent, my brothers in town, he wants my golf clubs, you can text message and they can get it fulfilled through omni to their house. >> the service is limited to san francisco but the hope is to expand it throughout the bay area by the end of next year. heather? >> it is an interesting concept. now i know what i could do with my shoes. [ laughter ] >> reporter: exactly. a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit against twitter that had accused the company of supporting isis. the suit alleged that twitter provided support by allowing isis members to sign up for and use twitter accounts to spread their messages. the suit was filed by the family of school american contractors who were killed in jordan last year. the judge said twitter could not be held responsible for the actions or speech of its users. twitter says it's been working to monitor and remove content created by terrorist groups. city leaders say they feel the justice has finally been served following the deadly pipeline explosion six years ago. the city held a news conference this morning to talk about the verdicts in the pg&e criminal case. on tuesday a jury found the utility guilty of five counts of violating pipeline safety standards and one count of obstructing the federal investigation. the san mateo county district attorney says the utility has never taken responsibility for what happened. >> and i tell you that didn't happen. instead they fought this case tooth and nail. and i am grateful to the jury and the criminal justice system in the united states attorneys office for being able to accomplish this. >> reporter: the jury found pg&e not guilty on several other charges. the 2010 natural gas pipeline explosion and fire left eight people dead and destroyed 38 homes. pg&e faces a fine of up to $3 million. the mayor of san bruno says it isn't the money that matters but the message sent by those six guilty verdicts. now to san jose where a small plane overshot the runway at reed hillview airport today, crashed through a fence and came to a stop on busy tully road. ktvu's maureen naylor was the first reporter on the scene. she tells us a flight instructor was teaching a student when they ran into a problem. >> reporter: this teenage flight student walked away unharmed, after his lesson in takes a -- takeoffs and landings ended like this, the small plane he and his instructor were in crashed into the fence at san jose's reed hillview airport wednesday morning. >> that was the quote the pilot and the passengers had, not a scratch. they were fine. how long have you been instructing? >> 30 plus years. >> have you ever had anything like this? >> no. >> reporter: we met the flight instructor shortly after it happened as his cessna snap -- set in the middle of tully road. they got into trouble after they landed long and they didn't have enough power to take off again. >> i was at the controls of the time. basically what i would have done differently is that i would have gone around sooner. >> reporter: the airport was closed for an hour while crews used bold cutters to in closed while the plane was towed back to the hanger. the incident is called very rare. >> we haven't had an airplane go through the fence this direction. so it's very unusual. >> reporter: plains usually take off the other direction but were landing to the south because of windy conditions. >> this is a well-traveled road out here on tully road. there's cars coming and going at all times of the day. so very fortunate we did not have any additional accidents besides the fence is off. >> reporter: maureen naylor, ktvu fox 2 news. federal in guest -- invest it or say that a medical plane that crashed broke up during the flight but why that happened is still a mystery. investigators say the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit and tried to fly back to crescent city before the small plane crashed in humboldt county. the ntsb spoke to witnesses who reported a large flash in the sky before the crash. for people were killed, the pilot, nurse, paramedics and a patient. investigators say it could be a year before a final report is released. still to come a big step toward bringing high-speed rail to the bay area. also tesla largest store yet, and what makes this one different. it's heating up around here, tomorrow will be warmer. we talked about that. now as we go forward into your friday and saturday, significantly warmer. ♪ police in berkeley are investigating two recent robberies related to the pokemon go smartphone app. in each case the victim was walking and distracted by the game. the first robbery happened on july 12 on dana street when two people followed a woman playing pokemon go knocked her to the ground, and took off with her smartphone. two weeks later robbers targeted a man playing the game at civic center park. one of the men punched the victim in the face, grabbed his phone and jumped into a waiting car and took off. police arrested two suspects in connection with that robbery. that the robbers in the first case are still on the loose. >> at this point it appears as though they are crimes of opportunity. somebody has seen -- really at a distance, they sort of stand out like a candle in the dark. >> last week another man playing pokemon go also at civic center park was targeted in that case, the victim was able to hold onto his phone. had a similar story from san francisco where a robbery suspect is behind bars accused of trying to steal a smartphone from a man who was playing pokemon go. police say 23-year-old demario evans stole a man's phone as the man walked along 17th street . investigators say the victim chased evans but evans reached into his pocket claim to have a gun. the victim got the attention of police officers who were on patrol, they arrested evans on robbery charges. in the end it turned out he was not carrying a gun. rail officials have approved funding for upgrades to the caltrain system on the peninsula and the eventual arrival of bullet trains. the high-speed rail authority approved $713 million to electrify the track along the peninsula. $84million to elevate the track at three busy crossings in san mateo. this is just one piece of the puzzle for the $2 billion caltrain modernization project. caltrain hopes to have electric trains running in 2020. when the bullet train is finished it will share the tracks with caltrain. tesla is about to open its first store in san francisco. and its largest yet in the u.s. the 65,000 square-foot store is located at the corner of o'farrell. tesla may do product launches at this store because of the size. this store is scheduled to open on friday. wall street drifted lower today has global oil prices slumped. the dow was off 37 points, nasdaq fell 20, the snb dropped six. state lawmakers ordered an audit of the university of california and its president janet napolitano. asked to examine how her office spends its $686 million annual budget. assemblyman phil king of san francisco requested it. the legislature needs a clearer picture of the university suspending. the audit is expected to last eight months and comes at a time when you see is pushing for more funding and is expected to raise tuition next year. a major water conservation in the east bay reached a milestone today. east bay mud made its first service connection from a new recycled water pipeline in san ramon to central park at san ramon city hall. we showed you the groundbreaking back in june of last year. officials say the project will bring recycled water to 40 commercial and industrial customers in san ramon and danville. >> east bay mud has been delivered -- has been delivering recycled water since the '90s but we are making a big push now to connect a lot more customers and use it in a lot of good ways. >> east bay mud says the treated wastewater will be used for landscaping which will save 400,000 gallons of water each day. some of the money for the construction came from a california state grant for drought relief projects. a 73-year-old woman killed during a police training demonstration. the shooting that stunned everyone involved and has left plenty of people asking tough chief at punta gorda says a 73-year-old former librarian named mary knowlton had volunteered for an exercise at simulating lethal force. she was accidentally hit by a live round. her 75-year-old husband was among the other volunteers attending that training. he said -- is said to be devastated. >> we want to express our deepest sympathy for the family and friends of mary knowlton. we are shocked by this horrific accident and are grieving deeply over maries passing. -- mary's passing. >> the city says other officers have been assigned to make sure he is psychologically stable. tracking another spare the air day for tomorrow, probably one again on friday. the most unhealthy air in the east bay where you might expect it, livermore valley, south into santa clara valley. not a horrible air-quality day but enough ground-level ozone and particulate matter for the soberanes fire filtering into the area, deems it appropriate to have a spare the air day tomorrow and i suggest -- i assume they have one again on friday. so what it means is carpool if you can and to do it early in the morning or later in the afternoon. fog and low clouds along the coast have become extensive, deep marine
