They say the boy is from arizona and he is here visiting his grandmother, who lives in san leandro. The motive for the bizarre attack remains unknown. Iyona hammond of oakland is the woman police say stabbed a 12 yearold boy in the upper back at least three times as he sat in the lobby of the Wells Fargo Bank in san leandro. The boys actually on vacation from outofstate. He was here with family this morning. He just flew up this weekend to the bay area so that he could spend time with family. Reporter the boy was waiting for his grandmother to finish business at the bank at 11 30 am when police say hammond came into the bank and rob someone making a cash deposit. 25 other people were in the bank at the time but then unprovoked and armed with a knife and scissors, hammond set her sights on the boy, attacking him from behind. The boy screamed for help. He ran over to the relative. It was seen that he was bleeding. The bank had blood on the floor. Reporter the boy later said he felt like he had been punched in the back. Two unarmed security guards cornered the woman and were able to keep her at bay just as police arrived. She ran outside where officers apprehended her. As the boy underwent surgery at Childrens Hospital, more family members were set to be on their way to the bay area. Hammond is now being held on charges of attempted murder. Its still unclear why she attacked the boy. Police say the natural assumption here is that this woman suffers from some kind of Mental Illness that police have not been able to confirm. We are told the boys mother could not get a last minute flight from arizona so she is making the 10 hour drive to be at her sons side. I assume the bank has surveillance footage. Have police learned anything from that video yet . Reporter the bank does has Surveillance Video that apparently shows this whole thing from beginning to end and they are now reviewing it but it may not explain the most confounding part of the case, which is of course the motive. That is the most troubling part. Were learning much more about the suspect who shot those two officers in fremont last week. The Alameda County coroner says the gunman, jailed we are brea died of a selfinflicted Gerald Villabrille barricaded himself overnight and died of a selfinflicted wound. Daly city is at risk of losing its main fire engine. That is raising fire consent. That worries firefighters. Imagine a room, a fire growing in size, essentially doubling every minute. Reporter unlike many cities, daly city has not rebounded from the recession. Property taxes and sales taxes have not kept pace. City officials are considering a bond measure next year to raise money and possibly bring the engine back but that doesnt help in the short term. Its reprehensible that we would cut a fire engine in our city. We would have our response times too late. Reporter city council is expected to vote in late june. The figures come as water agencies prepare to ease restrictions. The state will begin lifting mandatory Water Conservation for districts that show they have enough water to get by if the drought lasts another three years.
